Kerala: Death toll rises to 15 in Idukki landslide; 80 feared trapped

Thiruvananthapuram: At least 15 people have been killed after heavy rains caused a landslide in Kerala's Idukki district. The rescue team saved 12 people from the spot and they are undergoing treatment at Munnar's Tata General Hospital.
According to reports, four lanes of quarters and a church are buried under the mud and around 80 people are feared trapped. The landslide occurred in the Rajamalai area of the district, which is around 25km from the tourist town of Munnar.
A 50-member special task force team of the fire force has been dispatched to Rajamalai for the rescue efforts, said Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Health minister KK Shailaja has said a mobile medical team and 15 ambulances had been sent to Idukki, with more ready if required.
