Honour attack in Kerala: Man thrashed for refusing to convert

In a shocking case, a young man who recently eloped and got married to a Christian girl was thrashed by her brother and his friends for refusing to convert. The young man, who suffered brain damage, is currently undergoing treatment. The incident took place on October 31 on Chirayinkeezhu Beach Road in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. 

The victim was identified as 29-year-old Mithun of Bonacaud, who works as a desktop publishing operator. Mithun got married to 24-year-old Deepti on October 29. Deepti belongs to the Latin Christian community while Mithun belongs to the Hindu Thandan sect. 

Deepti had left her home and got married to Mithun despite her family's objections. Deepti's brother Danish, a doctor by profession, demanded that Mithun either convert or withdraw from marriage. When the couple refused to agree, Danish and his friends attacked him brutally. CCTV footage from the spot showed how the victim was attacked with a log of wood. Mithun suffered a brain injury and is currently undergoing treatment at the Thiruvananthapuram medical college.
