Elephant struggles to drink water with injured trunk; Should Karnataka govt still go ahead with reducing fores

An elephant struggling to drink water with its trunk bearing a gaping cut is a heart-breaking sight.

The incident that cause the animal suffering occurred at Shivanahalli in Bannerghatta National Park limits. A resident, who noticed the big hole in elephant trunk and how it was struggling to drink water, recorded the video.

Wildlife activist and member State Biodiversity Board Vijay Nishanth says, “Poachers are able to enter the vast landscape of the BNP. The elephant trunk is the handiwork of poachers who may have set up a snare to catch wild animals and the elephant’s trunk might have gotten stuck in that. If the government reduces the forest cover to facilitate few with interior motives, this will further put wildlife in further danger”.

"If we play with environment, we will face the wrath of it. Wuhan is a live example before us. They destroyed wildlife and now are suffering and have made the world suffer as well. Once the coronavirus scare subsides, the Karnataka government will witness agitations and face criticism from all quarters," said Nishanth.
