Chained and locked up: 73 senior citizens freed from shackles in Hyderabad

Over 70 chained senior citizens were rescued from an old-age home on Hyderabad outskirts after police found them locked up in a room.
 

Hyderabad: Police rescued at least 73 people after some were found locked up in a room and several others locked up at an old-age home in Nagaram village, on the outskirts of Hyderabad. A case has been registered under Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 against the management of the old-age home. Police said, "Case of cheating registered against the management of the old age home after a complaint was received that psychiatric patients and mentally-disturbed persons are being confined in a house with chains and being treated inhumanely. Investigation is underway."
