Bengaluru municipality takes care of poor through Indira Canteens amidst coronavirus scare

As Bengaluru is totally shut due to Karnataka lockdown till March 31. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) took this decision to ensure the downtrodden does not go hungry. Indira Canteens in all the 198 wards of the BBMP will be serving food three times a day.

The street vendors, auto drivers, cab drivers and daily wage workers were worried about access to food due to Karnataka lockdown announced by the government. However, their concerns have been taken care of by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). 

 

Starting from today, the BBMP will be offering free food at Indira Canteens. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served till March 31.

 

Bengaluru mayor Gowtham Kumar Jain said that this decision was taken keeping in mind the poor and those from the marginalised community. The Palike has decided to serve food free of cost to the poor via Indira Canteens. BBMP commissioner BH Anil Kumar has already instructed the officials to take measures to ensure no one goes hungry at this point in time.
