Already fighting COVID-19 crisis, Bengaluru’s BBMP faces decades old rain related civic issues again
Come June, residents of Bengaluru will have to encounter a number of civic issues, from clogged drains, water logging, tree uprooting and increase in potholes. With rains round the corner and already over 75% of staff engaged in dealing with COVID-19 cases, people look to the skies in prayer given the track record of authorities.
Bad news falls on Bengaluru from the skies as the weatherman has predicted above average rainfall in the country starting from June.
This would mean the BBMP which is struggling with the COVID-19 situation will seem more defenceless in dealing with rain related civic issues, an area in which it already is weak.
Many roads are dug up, potholes are on the rise, the garbage bomb is ticking and with the monsoon approaching the woes will only be doubled.
According to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, the danger cannot be ruled out in Bengaluru this time as there will be over 71% higher rainfall.
