Motorists without masks: Officials catch people open-mouthed, collect Rs 69,000 in Bengaluru

If you are planning to come out onto the roads of Bengaluru without a face mask while riding a bike, car or any vehicle, know that you can be booked, not just by traffic police, but also BBMP marshals. In just three days, 347 motorists were booked and a fine of Rs 69,000 was collected.

Not just traffic police, even BBMP marshals will be watching out for motorists in Bengaluru who violate rules, to impose a penalty.

With rules from the Central government on use of face masks while stepping out and maintaining distance to avoid the spread of COVID-19, the BBMP has deputed marshals to ensure implementation.

Since Monday, the marshals have booked 347 motorists and collected Rs 69,000 from them.

As per mayor Gautham Kumar Jain, the BBMP has given authority to marshals to catch motorists without masks, in keeping with efforts to implement the rules issued by the government to contain the spread of COVID-19.

In case anyone objects and picks up a fight with marshals, he or she may be booked for obstructing an official from performing his or her duty, and also for putting the general public in danger.
