Coronavirus lockdown impact: Dairy farmers pour 1500 litres of milk in lake

Due to coronavirus lockdown, no eateries and hotels are open and thus sale of milk has dropped. Dairy farmers in Karnataka’s Belagavi poured 1500 litres of milk in the lake.

Belagavi: With hotels and eateries remaining shut for the last seven days due to 21-day lockdown to contain coronavirus spread, the dairy farmers in Chikkodi, Belagavi district of Karnataka, are frustrated with the drop in sale of milk. They poured 1500 litres of milk in the lake.

The dairies have been purchasing milk by paying Rs 32 per litre. Now, due to the lockdown, the demand as well as the rate has gone down.

As the prices have dropped to Rs 15 per litre, frustrated farmers poured milk in the lake.

Karnataka was in number 2 position in dairy farming and milk supplies. The farmers say that they also used to export milk. Now, with this lockdown, everything has come to a standstill.
