Lucknow. Coronavirus fears in the hospital seems to be affecting the treatment of common patients. Hospital staff is afraid of touching patients affected by COVID-19. The latest case has surfaced from Hallet hospital in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a son died as his helpless father watched on.

The young man Anand Pandey, son of a homeopathic doctor, had severe cough and chest pain. He had to undergo an X-ray scan. However, coronavirus fear drove the staff away as none agreed to touch or treat the boy. One of them brought the stretcher and gave it to the father, who took his son and rushed to the emergency. The boy was then shifted to the ICU where he died during treatment.

Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav has raised this issue in Uttar Pradesh. He has alleged negligence of duty with respect to the treatment of common people amid coronavirus pandemic.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Yadav said that while providing personal protective equipment, the government should ensure that the medical staff does not ignore any patient due to the fear of coronavirus.

The SP president said, "It is sad that a doctor in Kanpur had to lose his son due to the unavailability of an ambulance, stretcher and other medical help at the Hallet hospital."
