World Penguin Day: King penguin colonies in world's most exotic locations

World Penguin Day, celebrated each year on April 25, pays homage to the 17 species of penguins found in the southern hemisphere. Among them, the emperor penguin is considered to be the biggest. An adult emperor penguin weighs around 41 kgs and chick weighs as little as 1kg. The second largest species among them are the king penguins, which are found in large numbers in the British overseas territory of St. George Island.

Although the emperor and the king penguin look similar, there are many striking differences. King penguins, have brighter feathers around their neck. They also live in territories that are hot, such as Brazil, Argentina, Chile, etc.

King penguins share their territory with other species but don't communicate with them regularly. Like most other penguins, they hunt fish and they also prey on squid. They are considered to be fighters and expend a lot of energy through the day. For this reason, king penguins eat almost 45- fishes a day.
