Bengaluru’s municipal bodies have Finally woken up after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) guideline order. 21 marshalls have been deployed, and CCTV cameras have been installed. Fencing too is underway. With such vigilance, tractors and vehicles plying near the lake bed with commuters dumping waste are caught and penalty is being imposed to send a clear message that no one can damage Varthur and Bellanduru lake and water bodies in the city.

As the Supreme Court rejected the state’s appeal against the order of paying Rs 500 crore fine for the failure of maintaining Varthur, Agara and Bellandur lakes, the state officials have been instructed to submit a report on the same on Nov 27.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) constituted a committee to monitor the development of lakes. Now, the committee is left in deep shock by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB) as it has built sewage treatment Plant without the provision to let the treated water into lakes. The committee headed by former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde visited Agra Lake and made this observation. He says he will send the report to NGT for further action.
