The amendment bill comes amid increasing number of deaths during cleaning and maintenance of sewers in the country

After shameful incidents of manual scavenging that were reported in Bengaluru's hotspots like Jayamahal, Whitefiled, MG Road, now city's startup hub Koramangala too has witnessed humans being employed to clean manhole trenches. The BWSSB engineer said it is not manual scavenging, but only cleaning of a trench and the police are said to be waiting for someone to file a complaint in the case.
