Jamboo Savari  

The entire state witnessed the much awaited Jamboo Savari sitting right at their homes seeking the blessing of Goddess Chamundeshwari. Abhimanyu who carried the golden howdah for the very first time was accompanied by female tuskers Cauvery and Sarala.

This year only two tableaux will be allowed to take part in the Mysuru Dasara procession. Unlike every year only five cultural troupes will be allowed to perform in the Jamboo Savari.

All the festivities and the Jamboo Savari will be telecasted live on Doordarshan Chandana, news channels and social media platforms this year. The Jamboo Savari will be held between 3:40pm and 4:15pm.

Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar on Monday has said that only 300 guests would be allowed to watch the grand finale of the 10-day Dasara festival on October 26 in the royal palace grounds in Mysuru.

Dasara elephants have begun practicing for the Jamboo Savari at the Mysuru palace premises. The elephants are led by Abhimanyu who will carry the Golden Howdah. Elephants and mahouts are under quarantine before festive celebrations.

District Minister ST Somashekar has said that everyone taking part in the Jamboo Savari procession will be tested for COVID-19 five days ahead of the event. 2,000 people attending the procession should possess a COVID -19 negative report. 

The Mysuru mounted police force have begun their training for the Dasara procession. Thirty-five horses from the mounted police battalion that will be participating in the Jamboo Savari are on a special diet.

The chief minister of Karnataka announced that this year’s Dasara celebrations will be very simple. Jamboo Savari will take place within the palace. COVID-19 warriors like doctors, nurses, pourakarmikas, ASHA workers and police will inaugurate Dasara.

Mysuru district in-charge minister V Somanna took a tour of Mysuru City to check the arrangements being made for the Dasara festival.

Vishalakshi Devi is the daughter of Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar and the sister-in-law of Pramoda Devi. She passed away at Vikram Hospital in Bengaluru at 4.15 PM on Friday, on the day of Vijayadashami.

Pramoda Devi's mother, Putta Chinnammani, 98, breathed her last in the wee hours of Friday. As it is the mourning period, all Dussehra poojas to be conducted by the members of royal family have been cancelled.

Vijayadashami celebrations started with grandeur in Mysuru. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah gave floral tributes to the Nandi Flag. Following this, a grand procession started with tableaux from various districts of Karnataka. As part of the procession, dance troupes, folk artistes entertained 10,000 people inside the Mysuru Palace. But the greatest attraction during this festival is the Jamboo Savari, where trained elephants make their way into the procession on a grand walk. An elephant named Arjuna will carry the Golden Howdah with an idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari in it. See the grandeur of Mysuru Dasara in these pictures.
