The Karnataka Film Exhibitors’ Federation has decided to not reopen theatres across the state till January next, as several movie producers are unwilling to release films in theatres due to restrictions amid the pandemic.

Theatres in Karnataka were allowed to operate from October 15 subject to certain conditions. Though it has been more than a week since the theatres opened, the response in the state has been lukewarm with hardly any audience.

The Centre has announced that cinema theatres can open across the country with 50% seating capacity from October 15. However, theatre owners do not seem to be ready fearing the huge amount they will have to spend to revamp the dingy theatres before reopening.

The multiplex stressed that theatrical experience remains the best medium for audiences to enjoy movies

Without naming the production house or the film, the theatre chain released a statement on Twitter, saying such a move was "disconcerting"
