Gorkha Janmukti Morcha’s (GJM) founder-president Bimal Gurung has returned to the hills after a long time. He held his first public meeting in Darjeeling on Sunday (December 20) afternoon. In the meeting, Gurung said, “I have joined hands with TMC. We will win 17 to 18 assembly seats in north Bengal. The BJP betrayed the Gorkhas and did not fulfil our promises.”

Dilip Ghosh greeted with black flags at Alipurduar
On Thursday (November 12), West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh’s convoy was attacked in the Jaigaon area of the Alipurduar district. Scores of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters gathered by the roadside chanting “Go back Dilip Ghosh” slogans. The protesters waved black flags at Ghosh. Three vehicles of the convoy including that of Dilip Ghosh were damaged in stone-pelting.

Binoy Tamang slams Bimal Gurung after meeting Mamata at Nabanna
Gorkha Janmukti Morcha faction chief Binoy Tamang on Tuesday (November 3) expressed satisfaction over the outcome of his meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He confirmed that there was no discussion about Bimal Gurung in the meeting. While emphasizing the need to maintain peace and normalcy in the hills, Tamang said his party will not share any platform with Bimal Gurung.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called for a meeting on Tuesday (November 3) with Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader Binay Tamang and party colleague Anik Thapa. According to sources, Bimal Gurung hasn't been invited to the meeting. The meeting aims to iron out differences between the two factions so that developmental work in the hills can continue without any disruption. Binay Tamang, ahead of the meeting, claims there is no question of sharing space with Gurung.

Darjeeling awaits new political equation after Bimal Gurung’s return to the hills
A procession was carried out on Sunday (October 25) in the Chowkbazar area of Darjeeling where Bimal Gurung’s supporters chanted "Bimal" and raised flags with his picture. Advance announcement of Bimal Gurung’s return to the hill was made. The youth wing of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJMM) staged a big procession in the town on Sunday (October 25) morning after hoisting the flag which has Gurung’s picture in it. Those who were in the lead of the procession were all known to be followers of Binoy Tamang. However, Bimal's name was not mentioned in the procession.

GJM leader Bimal Gurung breaks ties with NDA; allies with TMC
The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung on Wednesday (October 21) walked out of the NDA, underscoring that the BJP has "failed to find a permanent solution" for the Hills -- which had witnessed major unrest over demand for a separate state in 2017. He vowed to support the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC in its fight against the BJP in the 2021 Bengal Assembly elections.
