The former Madhya Pradesh CM triggered a controversy by calling BJP’s Imarti Devi “item”. Taking note of his jibe against Devi, the EC had revoked the 'star campaigner' status of the leader ahead of the bypolls.

 EC said Kamal Nath has been repeatedly violating the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct and breaching ethical and disgnified behaviour. 

Surjewala will chair the 14-member panel which includes former Speaker Meira Kumar, former minister Subodh Kant Sahay and party's star campaigners for Bihar polls Shatrughan Sinha and Kirti Azad.

Notably, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh have been named in the list of 30 star campaigners ahead of the first phase of Bihar elections scheduled on October 28.
