Peace, prayers and sermons: Buddhist monks celebrate the Buddha's birth

Born in 567 BC, Gautama Buddha’s birth anniversary is celebrated every year as Buddha Jayanthi. The spiritual leader’s birth is celebrated on a full moon day during Vesakh, which covers April and Month. For Buddhists who’ve followed the path of peace and spirituality, Buddha Jayanthi is a reminder of everything the Buddha stands for: renunciation of desire, good conduct and setting your mind free with meditation.

Buddha Jayanthi is celebrated mainly in South and South East Asia. People offer flowers, burn incense sticks and light candles. Buddhist monks hold prayers, group meditations and sermons, sending good vibrations into the universe.
