A post on micro-blogging site Twitter by television news channel NDTV which claimed that the first Metro service in the country was started due to the efforts of Atal Bihari Vajpayee triggered a storm on the platform.
The post was put out while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was addressing the nation as he inaugurated India's first fully-automated driver-less train on Delhi Metro's Magenta Line.
The post had evoked sharp response with some reminding that the PMO should verify the facts that are provided to PM Modi.
But here's the twist. PM Modi never credited Vajpayee for the start of the Kolkata Metro.
Stating that the post was misleading, the government has clarified that the Prime Minister had mentioned Vajpayee in the context of Delhi Metro.
