New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal has tested positive for Covid-19. Following the development, the Delhi CM has gone into isolation as a precautionary measure.
The CM is likely to be tested for the disease today.
Sunita has isolated herself at home for the time being.
Earlier in the day, CM Kejriwal had appealed to the people of the city to stay at home amidst the six-day lockdown that is being enforced in Delhi starting today.
The lockdown was announced yesterday amid the spiralling Covid-19 cases in the national capital. It started at 10 pm yesterday and will continue till 5 am on April 26.
Defending the lockdown, Kejriwal said today that the decision was taken keeping in mind the health and safety of the people.
"The lockdown in Delhi has started today. This decision has been taken in view of your health and safety. Kindly cooperate with the government and stay home to keep safe from the infection," Kejriwal tweeted.
In June 2020, CM Kejriwal had had a Covid scare after reportedly showing Covid-like symptoms, such as fever and sore throat. All of Kejriwal’s meetings had then been cancelled and he had self-isolated at his residence.
Delhi on Monday registered 23,686 new Covid-19 cases, 21,500 recoveries, and 240 deaths in 24 hours.
