Famous coach Satyanarayana launches hunger strike in response to allegations made by Gold Medalist Jyothi Surekha in Andhra Pradesh

Cherukuri Satyanarayana, the famous archery coach, declared an indefinite hunger strike today in Andhra Pradesh due to apparent false allegations made by Arjuna awardee and international archer V Jyothi Surekha. He launched his pritest at his son’s grave along with his wife.

He was arrested shortly and was then taken to a nearby government hospital.

V Jyothi Surekha at a press conference said that shortly after she received the Arjuna Award in August of  2017,  Chief Minister of AP, Chandrababu Naidu, had announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore, a house plot in the city and a government job. The controversy erupted when the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh deducted Rs 22 lakhs citing a sanction and allotted Rs 15 lakhs to Satyanarayana.

Jyothi Surekha alleged that the SAAP had diverted the cash reward, a total amount of Rs 15 lakhs to Satyanarayan on the grounds of being the coach. When according to records, Satyanarayana was the manager and Rama Rao the coach, when Surekha had won the gold medal at the 2013 junior Archery World Championship held at Wuxi in China.

’I am unaware of the government’s order giving me a share in the cash incentive announced for Jyothi Surekha. The government might have considered me a nominee in the absence of my late son Lenin. I never wrote any letter to the SAAP for a share in the cash incentive announced to the archer. Surekha has betrayed the master. Surekha along with her father is resorting to mud-slinging in her haste to get hold of 500 sq yard house plot in Vijayawada and Group-I post announced by the government,” Satyanarayana said when asked by the reporters.

Surekha’s father, V Surendra, claimed that the SAAP had made a deal with Cherukuri Satyanarayana and also added that they would launch a counter hunger strike if the government would not take proper action in providing justice.
