The visit is important as the Prime Minister will have a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the summit during which he is expected to seek China's support for India's bid for Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) membership, which Beijing is opposed to.
  

While confirming that the two leaders will meet on the sidelines of SCO meet, a Chinese Foreign Ministry official refuted the perception that China is blocking India's entry into the NSG.

The NSG works under the principle of unanimity and even one country's vote against India can scuttle its bid

A crucial meet of NSG members is scheduled in Seoul tomorrow and it is expected that the members might discuss India's entry to NSG

Beijing says the 'door is open' for discussions, then asks whether criteria for memberships should be changed instead of making exceptions

The article came as the NSG began its meeting in Seoul, even as the Chinese foreign ministry said India's admission is not on the agenda
