The seven-day truce began on November 24 and was extended twice. The truce had allowed dozens of hostages held in Gaza in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners and facilitated the entry of humanitarian aid into the shattered enclave. 

Israel has already warned Hamas and reminded the militant group of the responsibility of all the hostages. Both sides have engaged in prisoner swaps on all seven days of the humanitarian truce so far. Israel is demanding the release of all hostages from Gaza.

Hamas has angered Israel as reports suggest it has lost track of many hostages in the capture. Israel has asked for the return of all the hostages and it is willing to pay a big price for it but Hamas is finding it challenging to track many captives.

Militancy group Hamas wants an extension of the four-day truce previously agreed upon by Israel and its representatives. U.S. President Joe Biden has also backed the truce extension. At the same time, Israel has showcased a willingness for more prisoner swaps.

A video depicting Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops allegedly 'partying' inside the Islamic University of Gaza has gone viral, adding a controversial dimension to the Israel-Hamas conflict. 

The Israeli military had said that as many as 13 Israelis were released in Gaza and in exchange 39 more Palestinian prisoners were released by Israel in the West Bank. Reports further said that Hamas also released four Thai hostages.
