The Assam state government has repealed the Assam Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registration Act of 1935, aiming to combat child marriages and pave the way for implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). 

The Governor will be going to Thodupuzha for the event of the Traders and Industry Coordinating Committee. Meanwhile, the Governor signed an ordinance on Friday that amends the state's GST law regarding gambling, while the continuing conflict in the state between Raj Bhavan and the Left government.

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Friday (Jan 5) signed an ordinance amending the state GST law concerning gambling. Sources from Raj Bhavan confirmed Khan's signature on the ordinance.

Amid the ongoing tussle with the Kerala government, Governor Arif Mohammed Khan approved one of the ordinances passed in the Legislative Assembly.

Protests for the Maratha reservation in Maharashtra, particularly in the Marathwada region, have intensified, resulting in violence and damage to property. Curfews were imposed in some areas, and state transport services were suspended.

Following an extensive and impassioned 8-hour deliberation, the Upper House has successfully passed the bill aimed at replacing the Centre's Ordinance concerning the regulation of services in Delhi. The division vote concluded with 131 members in favor and 102 against.

The bill was introduced in the Upper House by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to replace an ordinance for handling the transfers and postings of officials in the Delhi government.
 

The Home Minister urged the opposition to put aside their alliance interests, as he believed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was bound to win. Shah's remarks highlighted the ongoing political tensions surrounding the Delhi ordinance and underscored the government's stance on the matter.

The bill had received approval from the Cabinet on July 25 and seeks to reverse the impact of the Supreme Court's May verdict, which had granted the Delhi government control over administrative services.

If the bill is approved in both houses, it will replace an existing ordinance that had superseded a Supreme Court order granting the Delhi government control over most services. This ordinance has been a major point of contention between Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Central government.

Earlier today, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha strongly criticized the Delhi ordinance bill, labeling it as undemocratic and a direct affront not only to the constitution but also to the people of Delhi.

As part of the opposition's response to the Manipur situation, a 26-party alliance submitted a notice of no-confidence in the Lok Sabha, demanding that the Prime Minister address the matter within the House.

The Union Cabinet on Tuesday cleared the bill seeking to replace the Centre's ordinance on the control of services in Delhi.

The Delhi Ordinance had created a significant obstacle in the formation of a united Opposition. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly opposed the Centre's attempt to gain control over administrative services in the Union Territory, urging the Congress to denounce the move.

The AAP and Congress have decided to bury the hatchet ahead of Opposition meeting in Bengaluru. The Congress has said it won't support the Delhi ordinance.  This comes as a big support for Arvind Kejriwal's party, which had threatened to boycott the key Opposition meeting scheduled to be held tomorrow aimed at forging an alliance to take on the ruling BJP ahead of the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
