On November 11, the Supreme Court released Nalini Sriharan and five other convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case who had been serving life sentences for nearly three decades. 
 

The Supreme Court ordered the early release of six convicts, including Nalini Sriharan and RP Ravichandran, who was sentenced to life in prison in the case. A bench of Justices BR Gavai and BV Nagarathna ruled that the Supreme Court's decision in the case of one of the convicts, AG Perarivalan, is equally applicable in their case.

The bench also noted that the Tamil Nadu cabinet had recommended their release on September 9, 2018, and this opinion will be binding on the Governor before whom the convicts had filed remission pleas.
