The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi as it resumed hearing the state government’s plea against the delay by him in clearing bills passed by the Assembly. The court said, “What was the governor doing for three years? Why should the governor wait for the parties to approach the Supreme Court?”

Udhayanidhi Stalin has repeatedly asserted his readiness to face any legal consequences for his remarks, and there are reports suggesting efforts to secure the Tamil Nadu Governor's approval to initiate action against him.

Senthil Balaji sacked: In his second letter to Chief Minister Stalin, the Governor said that he had been advised by Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah that it would be prudent to seek the opinion of the Attorney General as well on the matter.

The removal of Senthil Balaji from the council of ministers by Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi has triggered a debate on the Governor's authority. According to DMK sources, Chief Minister MK Stalin will disregard the order of the Governor. 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin criticized Governor RN Ravi's decision to remove Senthil Balaji from the council of ministers, asserting that the Governor does not have the power to dismiss a minister. Opposition leaders voice support for Stalin, condemning the move as a violation of the Constitution.

Balaji in judicial custody amid the investigation against him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in a case going back to 2014 when he was transport minister under the previous All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) regime.

During his interaction with civil service aspirants for the 'Think to Dare' series, at Raj Bhavan in Chennai on Thursday, the Governor claimed that donors in foreign countries had sent money for that 'anti-national' activities. 

On March 6, the Governor returned Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Bill 2022. The note shared with the Bill reportedly said that the state Assembly does not have legislative competence. 

"Without understanding the basis of my speech, arguments that the Governor is against the word 'Tamil Nadu' have become a topic of discussion. Hence, I am giving a clarification to put an end to it," Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi said.

Protests erupted in Coimbatore against the Governor by the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam where the agitators attempted to burn an effigy of Ravi. Elsewhere, local BJP workers staged a demonstration condemning the incident.
