It is reportedly said that Indian officials have welcomed this development as a positive step. Notably, Narender Singh Khalsa, a Member of Parliament representing the Hindu and Sikh communities, has returned to Afghanistan from Canada.

In addition to Khanpuria, Jagdev Singh, Ravinderpal Singh Mehna, and Harcharan Singh were also convicted. The charges against them include criminal conspiracy and preparing to wage war under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and UAPA.

Amritpal Singh surrendered after being spotted in different locations in several states for over a month. The radical preacher's surrender comes after police raided Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other border areas with Nepal but failed to nab the absconding Khalistani ideologue.

Punjab police has cancelled the leaves of all cops in the state till April 14 after radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh sought a meeting of the Sikhs later this month, according to various media reports. Amritpal, who has been evading arrest, has asked the chiefs of the top Sikh body, Akal Takht, to convene the "Sarbat Khalsa" gathering on April 14.

The live Facebook video surfaced a day after Singh released a video message on a YouTube channel wherein, he spoke about the arrest of his aides and their detention in Assam jail, and called 'Sarbat Khalsa' on the occasion of Baisakhi.

In the video addressed in Punjabi, Amritpal Singh, the 'fugitive' Khalistani sympathiser urged the Akal Takht Jathedar to summon a Sarbat Khalsa or a gathering of the entire Sikh community on Baisakhi to "fight against injustice".
