A hotel in Hyderabad offered free haleem to the public on Tuesday (Mat 12), resulting in a large crowd gathering outside the establishment. The situation escalated to near-stampede conditions, according to reports. The police then resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd.
 

The Congress-led protest march in Kerala turned violent in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday (Dec 20) against the state government's Nava Kerala Sadas and allegedly beating up KSU and Youth Congress while waving black flags at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Labour union workers staged a massive protest outside the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Sangrur on Wednesday, with police resorting to lathicharge to disperse them. The workers, who were protesting under the banner of Sanjha Mazdoor Morcha, a joint front of eight labour unions, have demanded a hike in wages.

The video of a Muslim girl being hounded at a college in southern Karnataka's Mandya district, which went viral late Tuesday evening, has sparked off a frenzy on social media with many noted personalities expressing their views. 

The hijab versus saffron scarf row has now reached Mandya where a group of pre-university college students were caught on camera intimidating a Muslim girl student. 

The ongoing saffron scraf and Hijab controversy has taken a nasty turn as students sporting saffron scarfs hurled stones at government colleges in Shivamogga and Bagalkot. As the situation turned volatile, the police resorted to lathicharge and some of the students were injured. Meanwhile, many pre-university colleges have declared a holiday.

Nearly 8 African nationals were detained after they sat on dharna before JC Nagar police station after one of the Nigerian accused in a drugs case died in police custody. Despite police warning to disperse, the African nationals misbehaved with police and also tried to attack a constable. The police lathicharged and took 8 of them into custody.
 

 "The protesters wanted to question Sidhu. The Congress leaders were on the other side and wanted to avoid clashes. No lathicharge was done," Avtar Singh, SHO Banga was quoted as saying by ANI.

In a significant development in police harassment case during lockdown, the Karnataka High Court not only dismissed the petition but also pulled up activist Balakrishnan and also imposed a penalty on Rs 1,000 against him.
