A man working in the UAE, Mohammed Rashid, has been booked by Karnataka police for allegedly using triple talaq via WhatsApp to divorce his wife while she was in India for the birth of their second child. The couple had been married for seven years before the divorce.

PM Modi noted the passing of laws against 'triple talaq,' which brought justice to Muslim mothers and sisters. He also acknowledged Parliament's role in enacting legislation to protect the rights of transgender individuals and secure a brighter future for the specially-abled.

The Triple Talaq practise was deemed unlawful and unconstitutional by the Indian Parliament on July 30, 2019, and made a punishable act from 1 August 2019.

During its meeting, Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi said the state cabinet cleared a proposal to constitute the committee.

The bench, headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, said, "Prima facie this (Talaq-e-Hasan) is not so improper. Women also have an option. Khula is there." The bench, also comprising Justice MM Sundresh, further said that it does not agree with the petitioner.
