A major landslide has disrupted road access in Arunachal Pradesh's Dibang Valley, a region adjacent to China. The incident took place on National Highway-33, causing a significant disruption between the towns of Hunli and Anini.
 

An aggregate 60.03 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 7 pm in phase one of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 on Friday, the Election Commission confirmed.

Phase 1 polling began at 7 am, marking the initiation of the electoral process in pivotal states and Union Territories. Notable among the areas with ongoing voting are Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim, and Lakshadweep.

On April 19, elections will be conducted in 102 Lok Sabha seats that are spread over 21 states and Union Territories. These are the important seats to watch in the first round of voting, which runs from Nagpur, Maharashtra, to Jorhat, Assam.

 

The company, Mysore Paints and Varnishes, has been India’s sole supplier of indelible election ink since 1962. Indelible ink has already been supplied to most of the states in the country including the states; Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram.

Six divers plunged sixty feet underwater, simulating the voting process while carrying a mock Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and displaying voting awareness placards. The programme was organised by SB Aravind Tharunsri, a scuba dive instructor and director at Temple Adventure.

The court stressed that voters do not possess an absolute right to know about every asset owned by a candidate. It highlighted that candidates have a right to privacy regarding matters that are irrelevant to their candidacy.

It is speculated that the Malayalis took their own lives while allegedly engaged in a black magic ritual.  The police have recovered various stones and pictures from the car belonging to the deceased. A migrant worker Asok Das was lynched near Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam and the police have arrested 10 people in connection with the incident.  The post-mortem report stated that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and chest.

The Ministry of External Affairs has strongly rebuffed China's attempt to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh, asserting that such actions will not change the region's integral status within India.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar firmly rebutted China's recent move to rename villages in Arunachal Pradesh as a means to assert sovereignty claims over the Indian state. Jaishankar emphasized that mere changes in nomenclature do not alter the ground realities or the sovereignty of the region, reiterating India's stance that Arunachal Pradesh has always been and will remain an integral part of India
