Family alleges dispute over alleged affair

According to the police complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Angoori Devi, Krishna Kumar and Preeti had been married for around 16 years. The couple had three children, including two sons and an eight-year-old daughter, Mansi.

Angoori Devi alleged that Krishna Kumar had suspected his wife of having an extramarital relationship and often objected to her spending long hours talking on the phone. This, she claimed, frequently led to arguments and fights between the couple.

She also alleged that Preeti had physically assaulted Krishna Kumar on previous occasions. These allegations are part of the family’s complaint and have not been independently established.

Relatives notice marks on victim’s neck

Krishna Kumar, who worked in farming and animal husbandry, was at home with his wife and young daughter on the night of the incident.

His mother, who was sleeping nearby, said she heard a disturbance at around 11 pm. When she reached the house, she found Krishna Kumar lying unconscious. Preeti allegedly told her that the couple had been arguing.

A local doctor was called, who declared Krishna Kumar dead. The next morning, relatives arrived at the house and noticed marks around his neck, raising suspicions about the circumstances of his death.

The family then informed the police. Officers reached the spot and sent the body for a post-mortem examination.

Post-mortem report leads to arrest

Police said the post-mortem report indicated that Krishna Kumar had died due to strangulation. Following the report, Preeti was arrested in connection with the case.

The victim’s nephew, Pradeep Rajput, alleged that Preeti had given Krishna Kumar money to buy alcohol before the incident and later used his intoxicated condition to kill him, the Amar Ujala report added. He further claimed that she allegedly strangled him with a towel.

The family has also alleged that Preeti wanted to sell Krishna Kumar’s property and leave with another man. They claimed that some property and buffaloes had already been sold. These claims remain allegations made by the victim’s relatives.

It is alleged that he had been in a relationship with Shivani, who is from the same village as his, for some time.

According to the complaint, Pushpendra went to meet Shivani at her house early in the morning. Reports said the woman's husband, Rinku, allegedly found them together. What happened immediately afterwards is now being investigated by police.

The family has alleged that Rinku and others assaulted Pushpendra with sticks and also beat him repeatedly. He suffered serious injuries and was declared dead at the spot.

Village tension after the alleged killing

News of the incident spread quickly through Jina Mai village, leading to tension and anger among local residents.

Police teams rushed to the village to prevent the situation from escalating. Additional personnel from Chhatari, Pahasu and Narora police stations were deployed under the supervision of Anupshahr Circle Officer Bharat Ram Sonkar.

Husband makes serious allegations

The man told police that he married the woman on June 24 in Bhander, Madhya Pradesh, following Hindu customs. He alleged that after the marriage, his wife began giving him sleeping tablets mixed in tea or milk so that she could speak to another man without his knowledge.

According to his complaint, he first suspected something was wrong when he allegedly found his wife with the man on August 19. He claimed that he again caught the two together at the alleged lover’s house on August 23.

The husband alleged that when he confronted them, his wife held his hands while the other man allegedly assaulted him and tried to strangle him.

Neighbours reportedly came to his rescue

The man said he raised an alarm during the alleged assault. Hearing the commotion, neighbours reportedly reached the spot and intervened, helping him get away.

He later went to the SSP’s office with his parents and sought protection, claiming that he feared for his life. He also requested police action over the alleged assault and the other allegations made in his complaint.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and the accused woman's version was not immediately available.

Police investigating complaint

The deceased, identified as Umesh Gupta, lived in Gandhi Nagar Colony in the Nigohi area. His family has alleged that police personnel took him to the roof during the raid and threw him down, causing his death.

Police team arrived at house around 3 am

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Devendra Kumar, a team from Malihabad police station in Lucknow had travelled to Shahjahanpur with a court warrant in connection with a theft case registered in 2025.

Local Nigohi police personnel accompanied the Lucknow team during the raid at Gupta’s house at around 3 am on Wednesday.

Police said the team entered the house but did not find Gupta there. At around 7 am, his body was found at a neighbouring building that was under construction.

The circumstances surrounding how Gupta reached the neighbouring property and suffered fatal injuries are now at the centre of the investigation.

Wife accuses police of throwing him from roof

Gupta’s wife, Shanti Devi, lodged a complaint naming four policemen from Malihabad police station and two personnel from Nigohi police station.

In her complaint, she alleged that the policemen took her husband to the roof and threw him from there.

She also accused some of the policemen of previously extorting money from Gupta and claimed that they had developed hostility towards him after she complained about them to senior officials.

Shanti Devi further alleged that jewellery kept in their house was taken away during the incident.

Based on her complaint, an FIR for murder was registered against all six policemen at Nigohi police station on Wednesday evening.

Police cite 30 kg silver theft angle

Malihabad Station House Officer Surendra Bhati said a theft case had been registered in his police station area last year.

According to him, people arrested in that case allegedly told investigators that they had sold around 30 kg of silver to Gupta in Shahjahanpur.

Police subsequently obtained a court warrant against Gupta on May 8, prompting the raid at his residence.

However, Gupta’s death during the police operation has triggered anger among family members and local traders, who are demanding strict action against those responsible.

Post-mortem report awaited

Gupta’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to provide crucial evidence about the cause and circumstances of his death.

For now, six policemen face a murder case, while investigators must determine what happened during the early-morning raid that ended with a 65-year-old trader being found dead at a neighbouring construction site.

A 24-year-old pregnant woman died after a speeding car crashed into people standing by the roadside in Jhansi on Raksha Bandhan night. The victim, identified as Palak, had come to her maternal home in Khushipura to celebrate the festival with her brother and family. Palak, who lived in Lalitpur, arrived at her maternal home on Monday evening. Later, she went out for dinner with around 10 to 11 members of her family.

Palak was three months pregnant

After eating at a restaurant, the group stepped outside and stood near an ice-cream cart by the roadside. Within moments, a car reportedly approached at high speed and crashed into the cart and people nearby, Aaj Tak reported. Palak suffered serious injuries in the collision. She was taken to hospital, where she died during treatment. She was three months pregnant.

Her father, Sudama Singh, said three members of the family were injured. His wife suffered serious internal injuries to her leg, while another relative sustained an injury and swelling in the hand.

Car hit people and vehicles

According to the family, the car had four to five people inside. They alleged that it was travelling at high speed and overturned after hitting the people. Some occupants allegedly tried to leave the scene.

The vehicle reportedly continued hitting people and vehicles near Parshuram Chowk, including an e-rickshaw, a car and motorcyclists. The ice-cream vendor was also seriously injured.

Another family was caught up in the crash while celebrating a birthday. Priyanshu, a local resident, had come to the area with five members of his family. Several of them were injured.

Driver arrested

Police reached the spot soon after receiving information about the crash. With help from local residents, the injured were taken to hospital. Navabad police officer Ravi Srivastava said the alleged driver, identified as Shivaan, was arrested near the Municipal Corporation gate and taken to the police station for questioning.

Police completed the inquest proceedings on Palak's body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway to establish how the crash happened and determine the accused driver's role.

According to a report by NDTV, Uma was found in her house in Hasanpur after a tenant went to switch on the submersible pump at around 10 pm. The tenant noticed her sitting on a chair and called out several times, but received no response. She then informed Uma's husband, Shivmangal Kushwaha, who runs a book stall.

Husband initially suspected cardiac arrest

Shivmangal rushed home and initially believed that his wife might have suffered a cardiac arrest. However, he later noticed a dark bluish mark around her neck. Household belongings were also found scattered, raising suspicion that a robbery could have taken place.

Police and forensic teams reached the house at around 11 pm after receiving information through Dial 112. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.

Police yet to confirm robbery motive

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) SM Qasim Abidi said there were no clear signs of forced entry or a break-in at the house. He said it was too early to establish whether the killing was linked to a robbery or whether another motive was involved. Police are also checking what cash, jewellery or other valuables may be missing.

Investigators found that only the cupboard belonging to Uma's elder son, Amrish, had been targeted. The cupboard contained jewellery. The cupboard belonging to her younger son, Ashish, was left untouched.

CCTV footage being checked

Rawatpur police have formed teams to investigate the murder. Officers are questioning family members and people in the neighbourhood, while CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined for possible clues about anyone who may have entered or left the locality around the suspected time of the crime.

Forensic experts have also collected evidence from the house. The post-mortem report is expected to help establish the exact cause and circumstances of Uma's death. Police are continuing to investigate the suspected strangulation, possible robbery and the identity of the person or people responsible.

A woman was allegedly strangled to death at her home in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi following an argument with her husband. According to police officials, her husband, identified as 28-year-old Yash Thakur, is currently absconding and police teams are searching for him. The victim has been identified as Sudha, also known as Shivani, a native of Indergarh in Madhya Pradesh. She had been living in Jhansi's Sipri Bazar area for around three months.

What happened inside the house?

According to Shivani’s family, she and Yash went to sleep late on Sunday night after an argument. Shivani’s 18-year-old younger sister Muskan was sleeping in an adjoining room.

Muskan said that at around 1.30 am to 2 am, Yash asked for his bag, claiming that he needed to take some belongings. After receiving the bag, he allegedly latched the door from outside and left.

Muskan later tried to open her own room around 5 am to use the bathroom but found that its door had also been latched from outside. She said she called out to Shivani and Yash for nearly half an hour but received no response. She eventually went back to sleep.

At around 9 am, Shivani’s brother Aniket reached the house. He found the door to Shivani’s room latched from outside and opened it.

Shivani was found lying unconscious on the floor.

The family rushed her to the Medical College, where doctors declared her dead.

Family accuses husband of murder

Aniket alleged that Shivani had marks on her neck and that blood was coming from her ear. He and Muskan accused Yash of killing Shivani before locking the rooms from outside and fleeing.

Police initially found an injury mark on Shivani’s neck, while no other obvious injuries were reported.

CO Ramveer Singh said the body was sent for post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

A two-doctor panel later conducted the post-mortem. According to the doctors, Shivani had been strangled to death. Five injuries were reportedly found on her neck and face.

Police suspect that a rope or a piece of clothing may have been used in the alleged strangulation.

Couple met on social media

Muskan said Shivani had met Yash, who is from Gwalior, on social media around two years ago. The two reportedly fell in love and informed their families, who agreed to their marriage.

The couple married around one-and-a-half years ago and initially lived together in Gwalior.

However, Muskan alleged that Yash later began assaulting Shivani over petty issues. Shivani subsequently moved to Jhansi and rented a room near Awas Vikas Fauji Tiraha, where Muskan and Aniket also stayed.

Yash continued to visit Shivani in Jhansi occasionally, the family said.

Argument before alleged killing

A day before Raksha Bandhan, Shivani travelled to Gwalior with her younger brother Kapil. She stayed there for two days before returning to Jhansi with Yash, while Kapil returned to their village.

On Sunday night, Shivani and Yash reportedly had another argument. Muskan alleged that Yash abused her family during the dispute.

Police are now trying to establish what happened inside the room after that argument and before Yash allegedly left the house.

Police search for absconding husband

Yash has not been traced so far. Police teams have been deployed to locate him, while investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding Shivani’s death.

The post-mortem findings have confirmed strangulation, but investigators are continuing to establish the sequence of events and collect evidence in the case.

Wife cries for help as man allegedly attacks

According to police, Rinku had reached the bridge on a motorcycle with his wife and their daughter. An argument broke out between the couple during the incident.

Police said Rinku allegedly tried to throw his wife into the Yamuna. She raised an alarm, prompting people passing by to rush to her aid.

The woman was rescued before she could be thrown into the river. Passersby then allegedly overpowered Rinku and beat him at the spot.

A video showing locals assaulting the accused has since surfaced on social media.

Police said that during the incident, Rinku allegedly threw his 11-month-old daughter into the Yamuna from the bridge. The child had not been located when the police statement was issued. Divers have been deployed and a search-and-rescue operation is under way in the river.

The night before Mahek’s body was found

Mahek, who was from Assam, lived with her friend in room number 13 of a rented building in Barola. Raman lived on the same floor in room number 23. Police said the two knew each other and were friends.

According to Mahek’s roommate, the two were seen together during the night of August 7 and 8. The woman allegedly saw Mahek and Raman drinking on Raman’s balcony.

They reportedly had a bottle of liquor, a bottle of water and chips with them and spent some time talking. Later, both went inside Raman’s room.

The next morning, Mahek’s roommate noticed that she was missing from their room. She called her phone, but it was switched off.

The roommate then went towards Raman’s room and found its door locked. Raman’s phone was also unreachable, raising suspicion.

The building owner, Sarthak Bansal, was informed about the situation. A caretaker subsequently broke open the lock.

Body found inside locked room

When the door was opened, people reportedly noticed a strong smell coming from inside. Mahek’s body was found lying on the floor. Police said it was covered in blood.

The police were immediately informed and reached the building to begin their investigation.

Two major questions confronted investigators: how had Mahek ended up inside Raman’s room, and where had Raman gone?

Police questioned Mahek’s roommate and other people living in the building. Their statements reportedly strengthened suspicion around Raman.

A murder case was registered at Sector 49 police station in Noida on August 10, following which police began searching for him.

By then, however, Raman had allegedly left Noida.

From Noida to his hometown

Investigators traced Raman’s movements and learnt that he had travelled towards Katihar, his hometown in Bihar.

However, his arrival in Katihar brought another unexpected development.

Bihar has prohibition on alcohol. During a police patrol, personnel from Katihar Nagar Police allegedly spotted Raman near Phulwari Kali Mandir Pokhar.

Police said five bottles of liquor were recovered from him. He was arrested and a case was registered against him under the state’s liquor prohibition laws.

At that stage, Katihar Police were dealing with a liquor case, while Noida Police were searching for the same man in connection with a murder investigation.

The two cases came together when Noida Police learnt that Raman was already in custody in Katihar.

Noida Police reach Katihar

A Noida Police team subsequently travelled to Katihar to take the investigation forward.

However, Raman cannot simply be taken from Bihar to Uttar Pradesh because he is already in custody in another case. The Noida team must complete the necessary court and judicial procedures before obtaining his custody.

Police are therefore pursuing the required process to seek his remand for questioning in connection with the Noida murder case.

Katihar DSP Vishal Anand said Raman had been arrested in the liquor case and that Noida Police had reached Katihar in connection with the murder investigation. He also said Katihar Police were cooperating with the Noida team.

What happened inside the room?

Several questions remain unanswered.

Investigators will need to establish exactly what happened after Mahek entered Raman’s room that night. They will also have to determine how she died, whether she was attacked, what may have led to her death and whether anyone else was involved.

Police are also expected to examine Raman’s movements after the incident and the route he took from Noida to Katihar.

The discovery of Mahek’s body and Raman’s absence from the room are central parts of the investigation so far. However, the allegations against him have not been established in court and remain subject to police investigation and judicial proceedings.

For now, a case that began with the discovery of a young woman’s body in a rented room in Noida has moved to Katihar, where police are waiting for the legal process to allow them to question the man they suspect in the case.

A 37-year-old ICICI Bank relationship manager, Divya Mishra, was allegedly shot dead by her husband, Manas Bajpai, outside her workplace in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar. Police said Bajpai later went to his Husadiya home, allegedly shot his sister.

A 37-year-old ICICI Bank relationship manager was allegedly shot dead by her husband outside her workplace in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar on Thursday. The incident was followed by the deaths of the accused man and his sister at their home, leaving three people dead in a shocking sequence of events.

The victim, identified as Divya Mishra, lived in Singar Nagar in Alambagh and worked as a relationship manager, reportedly at the assistant manager level, with ICICI Bank.

Police said the shooting took place at around 11.22 am outside the ICICI Bank branch in Vivek Khand, a busy commercial area in Gomti Nagar.

According to investigators, Divya had returned to the bank after meeting a client and was with fellow employees when the attack took place.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, East, Amol Murkut, said Divya had stepped out of a vehicle when her husband, Manas Bajpai, allegedly attacked her. Police believe Bajpai had been waiting for her near the bank.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that Divya and Bajpai briefly spoke outside the bank before he allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at her. Reports indicate that two shots were fired before Bajpai fled the scene.

Divya was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Police have begun examining CCTV footage from the area to establish the exact sequence of events and determine how Bajpai approached and escaped from the location.

A purported WhatsApp status, believed to have been posted by Bajpai, also surfaced after the incident. In the message, he allegedly admitted to shooting Divya and accused her of cheating. Police are examining the post as part of the investigation and have not yet commented on its authenticity or legal relevance.

Police said Divya and Bajpai had reportedly been involved in a marital dispute for some time. Divya had filed for divorce around a year ago, and the matter was pending before a family court.

After allegedly fleeing from Gomti Nagar, Bajpai reportedly went to his residence in Husadiya.

Police said he then allegedly shot his sister, Vibha Bajpai, inside the house before turning the weapon on himself. Both were found dead at the second location.

Friends record stunt before the jump

Pushpendra Kumar Manouria, a resident of Parwai village, had gone to Pahuj Dam with a group of friends on Sunday evening. While making a reel, Pushpendra reached a viewpoint on the left side of the dam. A railing had been installed at the spot for safety.

According to the video, Pushpendra climbed over the railing and prepared to jump. His friends stood nearby with their mobile phones recording him. Amid laughter and joking, one of them can be heard saying, "Bhagwaan teri aatma ko shanti de (May your soul rest in peace)."

Moments later, Pushpendra jumped from the height into the dam.

He landed on rocks instead of deep water

The stunt went badly wrong within seconds.

The spot where Pushpendra landed had shallow water and a rocky surface underneath. His feet hit the rocks directly, causing severe injuries and fractures to both legs.

Unable to use his legs properly, Pushpendra also struggled to get out of the water. He reportedly held his injured legs with his hands before managing to swim with his arms and grab an iron rod.

People nearby then helped pull him out of the water.

Police arrive, injured Pushpendra taken to hospital

After the accident was reported, Grassland outpost in-charge Ranvijay Singh reached the spot with police personnel, according tp a report by Aaj Tak.

Pushpendra was taken to a private hospital for treatment. His family also reached the hospital after being informed about the accident. One of his legs was more seriously injured and required surgery, during which two rods were inserted. The other leg also requires an operation.

Pushpendra says he will not repeat the stunt

Speaking about the accident, Pushpendra said he had jumped expecting to land in water but did not realise that the water was too shallow at that point.

He said the impact left both legs badly injured and that he remained in the water for some time before managing to pull himself out.

Pushpendra also admitted that he had performed stunts at different places in the past. However, the accident made him realise how dangerous such attempts can be.

He has now said that he will not attempt such a stunt again.

The video emerged publicly on Friday, September 4. The alleged incident took place at Archana's home, around a kilometre from the Bulandshahr Collectorate, according to a report by Dainik Bhaskar. Archana, who is a Congress Mahila Sabha state vice-president, has filed a complaint against Pandit at Shikarpur police station.

Archana alleges assault inside her home

In her complaint, Archana alleged that she was at home with her son, Samar Pandit, when Guddu Pandit arrived unexpectedly. She alleged that he banged loudly on the door and shouted for her to come outside. When she opened the door, she claimed he pushed her forcefully, causing her to fall to the floor, before allegedly assaulting her.

According to Archana, a domestic worker heard her screams and began recording the incident on a mobile phone. She alleged that Pandit backed away after noticing that he was being filmed.

Archana said she then ran towards the road to protect herself and informed the police.

'I fear for my life'

Archana has also alleged that she and her son have repeatedly received death threats from Pandit and members of his family. She claimed that her divorce case against Pandit is currently pending in court and alleged that he wants her to withdraw the case.

According to her complaint, she believes the alleged harassment is connected to the ongoing divorce proceedings. She has sought protection, including the deployment of women police personnel around the clock, saying she fears for her safety.

These allegations have not yet been established in court.

Police investigating video and allegations

Bulandshahr City Circle Officer Prakhar Pandey said police had received Archana's complaint and were examining the video that has surfaced.

The officer said the allegations and footage were being investigated and that action would be taken against the accused based on the facts established during the probe.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he contested Fatehpur Sikri on a BSP ticket but was defeated. He left the BSP in 2022 and joined Shiv Sena before returning to the Samajwadi Party in 2023.

Archana Pandit’s political journey

Archana Pandit has also been active in politics. She previously served as the national general secretary of the Samajwadi Party's women's wing. She contested the 2023 Bulandshahr municipal chairperson election as an SP candidate and finished second.

She later joined the Congress in Lucknow and currently holds a position in the party's women's organisation in Uttar Pradesh.

The deceased, identified as Raviraj, was a native of Khagaria in Bihar and lived in a rented accommodation in Behlampur, Sector 63, Noida. He worked as an online delivery worker, according to a Dainik Bhaskar report.

Manjha caught Raviraj's neck on NH-9

According to police, Raviraj had gone out on his motorcycle with his friend Naresh on Saturday. Raviraj was riding the bike while Naresh was seated behind him. Both men had travelled from Noida and were heading towards Ghazipur in Delhi.

They entered NH-9 from the Sector 43 cut when the manjha suddenly became entangled around Raviraj's neck.

The motorcycle was moving at speed, and the sharp string caused a deep cut to his neck. The injury was so severe that, according to doctors, the cut reached the bone in his neck.

Raviraj's neck was left badly injured and he began bleeding heavily. Blood reportedly spread across the highway.

Friend and passers-by tried to save him

Naresh somehow managed to bring the motorcycle under control and raised an alarm for help. He and some people who stopped at the spot tried to support Raviraj's neck and control the bleeding.

A cloth was tied around his neck in an attempt to stem the bleeding before police arrived.

After receiving information about the incident, Kaushambi police reached the spot and rushed Raviraj to Max Hospital in Vaishali. However, doctors declared him dead after examination.

ACP Indirapuram Suryabali Maurya also reached the hospital after being informed about the incident, the Dainik Bhaskar report added.

Doctors told police that Raviraj had suffered a wound around 5 cm deep on his neck and that the injury had also cut the underlying bone.

His family later took the body to Noida and reportedly declined a post-mortem examination.

Chinese manjha remains a deadly threat

The Ghaziabad incident is the latest in a series of serious injuries and deaths linked to banned Chinese manjha in Uttar Pradesh.

In December 2025, a young man travelling home on a motorcycle in Lucknow suffered a severe neck injury after getting caught in Chinese manjha. Doctors saved his life after putting seven stitches in his neck.

In Shahjahanpur, 26-year-old Ravi Sharma died in October 2025 after Chinese manjha became entangled around his neck while he was travelling with his wife. A month earlier, 28-year-old Salman died in Aligarh after the string caught his neck while he was riding a scooter to his shop.

In July 2025, Amit Gupta suffered serious injuries in Gorakhpur when Chinese manjha caught his neck while he was travelling with his mother. Four blood vessels were reportedly cut in the incident.

Earlier in January 2025, Shahjahanpur police constable Shahrukh Hasan died after suffering a severe neck injury from Chinese manjha while travelling to duty.

Why Chinese manjha is so dangerous

Chinese manjha, also commonly called plastic manjha, is different from traditional cotton kite string. It is generally made using synthetic material such as nylon and can be coated with abrasive material, making it extremely sharp and difficult to break.

When stretched across roads, the nearly invisible string can pose a serious danger to motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians and animals. A rider travelling at speed may have little or no time to spot it before it catches the neck or another exposed part of the body.

The string can cause deep cuts and, in serious cases, fatal injuries.

Chinese manjha is banned, but still sold

The National Green Tribunal banned the manufacture, sale, storage, purchase and use of nylon and synthetic manjha across India in 2017. Uttar Pradesh has also enforced restrictions on Chinese manjha.

Despite the ban, the string continues to be sold illegally in several places, leading to repeated accidents.

Violations can attract action under environmental laws, including penalties under the Environment (Protection) Act. Authorities have also taken action against shops found selling banned manjha, including sealing premises in some cases.

A 48-year-old woman died after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance following a family dispute with her daughter-in-law in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district. The woman, identified as Sunita, reportedly fell ill shortly after reaching Fatehpur police station, where she had been called for questioning in connection with the dispute. The incident took place in Barehdi Ghoghu village under the Fatehpur police station area on Monday.

According to a report by Live Hindustan, Sunita and her daughter-in-law had an argument on Monday morning over an alleged delay in preparing tea. The verbal spat reportedly intensified, with allegations that the dispute reached the stage of a physical confrontation. Sunita's son, Vikas, is said to have supported his mother during the argument.

Daughter-in-law approaches police after family dispute

Following the dispute, Sunita's daughter-in-law reportedly approached the women's help desk at Fatehpur police station and submitted a complaint against Sunita and her husband, Vikas.

Police subsequently called Sunita and Vikas to the station for questioning.

Vikas reached the police station first. Sunita, however, went to work at a factory in the Bhagwanpur industrial area before arriving at the police station later in the afternoon.

Shortly after reaching the station, her condition began to deteriorate. She started vomiting, prompting women police personnel to ask what had happened.

According to police, Sunita told officers that she had consumed a poisonous substance.

Woman rushed to hospital after vomiting at police station

Police personnel immediately rushed Sunita to the Fatehpur Community Health Centre for treatment. As her condition was reportedly serious, doctors referred her to the district hospital for further medical care.

However, doctors at the district hospital declared her dead.

Circle Officer (Sadar) Vikas Pratap Chauhan reached the hospital after receiving information about the incident and gathered details from police personnel and the family.

The officer said Sunita had been called to the police station in connection with a complaint arising from a family dispute. He added that she had herself informed police personnel that she had consumed a poisonous substance.

Police say no fresh complaint received yet

Police said that no fresh written complaint had been received in connection with Sunita's death. Further legal action would be taken if a complaint was submitted.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged consumption of poison are expected to be examined as part of the police inquiry.

The incident has drawn attention because the woman's health deteriorated soon after she reached the police station following what had begun as a domestic dispute over a seemingly minor issue.

According to Hindustan Live's report, Sunita's family later took her body home and performed the last rites without a post-mortem examination. The exact circumstances of her death and the sequence of events leading up to the alleged consumption of poison remain subject to further investigation.

Usman is the uncle of Bilari MLA Mohammad Faheem Irfan. He had reportedly gone to the Circuit House to meet Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, Lal Bihari Yadav, who was staying there.

What happened at the Circuit House?

According to officials, the district administration had received the protocol for Yadav's stay and made arrangements at the Circuit House accordingly.

After a review meeting with SP leaders ended, Usman went outside and offered namaz near the lawn. An SP worker recorded the incident, and the video later circulated widely online, according to a report by Bhaskar English.

The administration has not said that Usman was formally granted permission to use the Circuit House for prayers. Moradabad City Additional District Magistrate Ankit Srivastava said an investigation was underway and that action would follow.

An FIR has since been registered against Usman under Sections 285 and 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The provisions relate to causing danger or obstruction in a public way and public nuisance.

Hindu group questions prayer at government premises

Rohan Saxena, state president of the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal, questioned how the prayer was allowed at the government facility.

He asked the administration to clarify whether any rule permitted a legislator's relative or a political leader to offer prayers at the Circuit House. He also demanded action if no such permission existed.

Allahabad High Court ruling on public land

The controversy comes months after an important observation by the Allahabad High Court. In May 2026, a Division Bench of Justices Saral Srivastava and Garima Prasad held that public land cannot be claimed for exclusive religious use. The court said the right to practise religion is subject to public order and the rights of others.

The ruling came in a case from Sambhal, where a petitioner had sought protection to offer namaz on land he claimed was private. The court found the land was recorded as public land and said authorities could regulate religious activity where it affected public life or involved organised gatherings.

However, the court's ruling concerned the use of public land and organised or recurring religious activity. It does not mean that every individual act of private prayer is automatically illegal. The circumstances and nature of the activity remain important.

Usman has faced controversies before

This is not the first controversy involving Usman. During the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign, a case was reportedly registered against him over allegations of violating the Model Code of Conduct and making an inflammatory speech at an SP rally addressed by party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

His name also surfaced in a dispute over caste certificates. In 2026, a district-level verification committee found that OBC certificates issued to Mohammad Faheem Irfan, Usman and members of Usman's family on the basis of the Jhojha caste claim did not comply with the applicable rules. The certificates were subsequently cancelled.

Usman has previously served as a district panchayat member and headed his ancestral village, Ibrahimpur.

The latest controversy now centres on whether the prayer near the Circuit House amounted to unauthorised use of a government facility. The district administration's inquiry is expected to establish the exact circumstances under which Usman offered namaz and whether any rules were violated.

The waterlogging also affected important areas including the Jan Aushadhi centre, superintendent’s office and auditorium, according to a Dainik Bhaskar report.

Maternity ward among worst affected

The maternity and newborn ward was reportedly one of the worst-hit sections. Dirty rainwater spread across the floor while pregnant women and newborn babies remained on their beds.

The stagnant water also reportedly caused a foul smell inside the ward. Patients and their families expressed concern over hygiene and the possibility of infections, particularly for mothers and newborn children.

Health-related work at the centre was also affected, while patients arriving at the facility had to make their way through the accumulated water.

Patients and attendants said waterlogging is not a new problem at the health centre. They claimed that even relatively light rain can leave parts of the hospital flooded because of inadequate drainage.

Sunday’s heavy rainfall made the situation considerably worse, with water spreading across several sections of the facility.

The condition prompted patients and local residents to demand a permanent solution rather than temporary measures after every spell of rain. They have urged hospital authorities and concerned officials to repair the drainage system at the earliest.

CHC superintendent Arpita acknowledged that heavy rainfall had caused water to enter the wards.
