A video purportedly showing a police officer allegedly asking for money during passport verification in Ghaziabad has gone viral on social media, prompting criticism and claims of bribery during the process. The video, said to have been recorded in Indirapuram, shows the officer checking documents of a man who had reportedly applied for a passport. The officer asks about his occupation. He replies that he is a software engineer at an IT company and has worked there for around two years.
View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Ajay Singh (@ajay.pccs)

'Nothing Is More Important Than Life': Viral Video Of Students Fainting in Assam Heat Sparks Outrage

'Hisab kitab kar do'

The conversation then takes an unexpected turn when the officer asks the man for 'hisab kitab' (bribe money). When the man asks how much, the officer allegedly says '2-4,000 rupees'. The man questions why he should pay. The officer is heard responding, “Arre bas de do,” before apparently adding that money is given to the police station.

The man then asks whether he would receive a receipt for the payment so he could claim a rebate while filing his income tax return. The officer responds that there would be little benefit from claiming a rebate for Rs 500 or Rs 1,000.

UP Man Takes On Giant Python As It Tries To Enter His House, Video Goes Viral

The officer leaves after noticing camera

The exchange appears to end abruptly when the officer seems to realise he is being recorded.

A Lucknow cab driver and his alleged lover have been arrested for allegedly killing his wife and dumping her body in the Gomti River, police said. The case came to light after the man, identified as 31-year-old Umendra Pratap Singh of Rahimabad, approached the police claiming that his wife, Anjali Singh, had gone missing. He told investigators that she had left their home on the intervening night of July 30 and 31, taking her jewellery with her. What initially appeared to be a missing person case soon turned into a murder investigation after the police found inconsistencies in Umendra's account.

'Don't Let Her Touch My Body': UP College Clerk Dies By Suicide, Sends WhatsApp Message Before Death

Missing complaint raises suspicion

According to the police, as reported by the Times of India, Umendra approached the authorities on July 31 and reported Anjali missing. He claimed that she had left home with jewellery. However, Anjali's brother suspected that Umendra knew more about her disappearance and accused him of being involved in the case.

The police then registered a murder case after Anjali's body was recovered from the Gomti River on July 31. Her family members later identified the body as that of Anjali.

Rahimabad SHO Anil Kumar Trigunayak said the investigation changed direction after technical evidence did not support the husband's version of events.

Police began examining mobile phone locations, call records and other electronic evidence to establish where Umendra had been around the time Anjali disappeared.

The evidence eventually led investigators towards him.

Bihar Farmer Carries Five-Foot Crocodile On Shoulders To Police Station (WATCH)

Police say affair began seven months earlier

During questioning, Umendra allegedly told investigators that he had met Aarti Verma, 31, around seven months earlier. Aarti worked at a call centre and had booked a cab ride that Umendra was driving. The two allegedly remained in contact after their first meeting and later developed a romantic relationship, according to the police.

Investigators said Anjali eventually learnt about the relationship and objected to it.

Police alleged that repeated arguments between Umendra and Anjali over his relationship with Aarti led the two accused to plan her murder. The police have described the case as a planned killing carried out by Umendra and Aarti. The allegations are yet to be tested in court.

Gujarat Woman Kills Husband With Lover's Help, Spins 'Australia Job' Lie For 2 Years

Wife allegedly smothered at home

According to investigators, Umendra and Aarti carried out the alleged murder on the night of July 30.

Police said the duo smothered Anjali and squeezed her neck until she died.

After her death, the accused allegedly wrapped her body in a blanket. They then placed it in a hatchback car and drove towards the area around Itaunja, where they allegedly dumped the body into the Gomti River.

The police said the car used to transport the body has since been seized.

The recovery of Anjali's body helped investigators establish that the missing person complaint was allegedly part of an attempt to hide the killing.

Telangana Student With 98.6% Score Dies By Suicide After Alleged Taunts Over 1 Mark, Teacher Booked

Jewellery allegedly used to create false story

Investigators also believe Umendra tried to make it appear that Anjali had voluntarily left home. Police said he removed around 32 gold and silver ornaments belonging to Anjali and handed them over to Aarti.

The jewellery was allegedly worth between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. Umendra then approached the police with the missing complaint, claiming that Anjali had disappeared with her valuables.

Investigators said this was intended to support the impression that Anjali had left home on her own and had taken the jewellery with her.

However, the digital evidence examined by the police allegedly contradicted his account.

The jewellery was later recovered from Aarti, police said. Two mobile phones and the car allegedly used in the crime were also seized.

IIM Ahmedabad Alumnus, Wife And Daughter Found Dead In Pune, Financial Crisis Suspected

Digital trail helped police crack case

The investigation reportedly turned on the digital evidence collected by the police.

After Anjali's brother raised suspicion about Umendra, investigators began checking the movements and communication records of those connected to the case.

Police said the technical evidence did not match Umendra's version of what had happened. The digital trail eventually led investigators to him, and he was arrested near Adaura Mod on August 1.

During questioning, police said Umendra disclosed his alleged relationship with Aarti and described her involvement in the killing. Aarti was subsequently arrested by the police.

The arrests came shortly after Anjali's body was recovered from the Gomti River.

Kerala Tragedy: 68-Year-Old Woman Dies Of Electric Shock During Ramayana Recital

Both accused sent to judicial custody

Police have seized the jewellery, two mobile phones and the car as part of the investigation. Umendra and Aarti have been sent to judicial custody.

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding Anjali's death and the events leading up to it. Police are also checking Umendra's criminal history in other districts.

According to the police, a case involving assault was registered against him in Hardoi in 2020. His possible involvement in any other cases is being verified.

The police investigation will now focus on establishing the full sequence of events, including how the alleged murder was planned, the roles played by both accused and the disposal of Anjali's body.

Mathura Woman Booked For Killing 3-Year-Old Son Over Crying While She Was On Call With 'Boyfriend'

A family dispute in Kanpur has taken an unexpected turn after a woman accused of mixing a chemical or slow poison into tea for her husband and in-laws came forward with her side of the story. Jyoti Gupta, a laboratory technician at a government hospital, has rejected the allegations made against her. She said she never put any poisonous chemical into the tea and claimed that the only things she added were cloves and turmeric. Her version of events is very different from the allegations made by her husband, Himanshu Gupta, who had approached the police claiming that his wife was trying to slowly poison him and his parents.

કાનપુરમાં ક્રાઈમ શો જોઈ પત્નીએ રચ્યું ખતરનાક ષડયંત્ર! In the footage, the woman is allegedly seen adding something to tea, according to a report by Aaj Tak. However, Jyoti has now claimed that the videos are around a year and a half old and that her husband himself had sent her social media videos about ways to supposedly bring her mother-in-law under control.

She has also alleged that the videos are now being circulated to damage her reputation and put pressure on her because her husband wants to marry another woman.

The allegations from both sides are being investigated by the police.

What has the Kanpur woman said?

Speaking about the controversy, Jyoti said the tea contained no chemical or slow poison.

According to her, she used only cloves and turmeric. She claimed that she did this after her husband sent her videos from his own Instagram account.

The videos, she alleged, talked about ways to "control" or influence a mother-in-law by adding certain ingredients to tea.

Jyoti claimed that she followed the advice after her husband asked her to do so. She said she had no idea that a hidden camera had been placed in the kitchen and that her actions were being recorded.

She has strongly denied knowing anything about any poisonous substance being added to the tea.

Jyoti also said that she was ready for the contents of the tea to be examined scientifically.

"If there is any doubt, the police can conduct a scientific investigation," she has said, according to the details shared about her statement.

She claimed that she had already given a similar explanation to the police earlier, but believes the videos are now being presented in a different way.

Why does Jyoti say the videos are being shared now?

One of the main questions raised by Jyoti is why the videos, if they were important evidence, were not given to the police earlier.

She said the footage was about 18 months old and questioned why it had suddenly become public now.

According to her, she had already filed cases against her husband and his family, including allegations linked to dowry harassment, physical assault and domestic violence.

She claimed that the police had already filed chargesheets in those cases.

Jyoti alleged that the old videos were now being circulated to put pressure on her as the legal proceedings continued.

Her argument is that if her husband genuinely believed the footage showed her trying to poison the family, he should have handed it over to the police when he first made his complaint.

She also questioned why the footage was not used earlier in the divorce proceedings.

These are allegations made by Jyoti, and they have not been established by the police or a court.

The husband's version of the case

The controversy began with allegations made by Himanshu Gupta. According to the complaint attributed to him, he suspected that his wife was putting a chemical substance into tea served to him and his parents.

He reportedly claimed that he became suspicious after he and his parents began experiencing similar health problems.

Himanshu then allegedly installed hidden cameras inside the house. He claimed that the recordings showed his wife adding something to tea.

Based on his allegations, a complaint was filed at Rawatpur police station in Kanpur. The case has since become a talking point on social media, particularly after videos connected to the allegations began circulating.

However, the exact substance allegedly added to the tea and whether it was harmful remain matters for investigation.

The police are expected to examine the available evidence rather than relying only on claims made by either side.

Jyoti makes allegations about her husband's personal life

While denying the poisoning allegations, Jyoti has made several claims about her marriage. She alleged that soon after their wedding, her husband told her that he had been in a relationship with a woman living in Bengaluru.

According to Jyoti, her husband had earlier planned to marry the other woman. She also alleged that her mother-in-law wanted the same woman to become her son's wife.

Jyoti believes this is one of the reasons why she is now being targeted.

She has alleged that her husband wants to remove her from his life and marry the other woman.

Again, these claims are part of Jyoti's version of the dispute and have not been independently established.

The dispute over money and the wedding

The couple's disagreement also involves allegations about money and dowry. Jyoti claimed that her father was involved in the property business and that around Rs 75 lakh was spent on the wedding. She alleged that after the marriage, her husband and his family began demanding more money and asking for funds for investments.

She further claimed that her salary from her government job was taken by her husband.

Jyoti also alleged that her husband presented himself as a chartered accountant working in Pune but did not actually continue working there after their marriage.

Her brother, Shubham, has also rejected allegations against their family.

He reportedly said the other side had accused Jyoti's family of demanding around Rs 70 lakh, but claimed that the family had already spent a large amount on the wedding.

He also said that Jyoti was given jewellery worth around Rs 10 lakh and that documents supporting the family's claims were available.

The figures mentioned in the dispute have been reported in Indian rupees in the original claims; the dollar equivalents above are approximate conversions for readability.

What is the police investigation focusing on?

The police investigation will be important in determining what actually happened inside the home. Investigators are expected to examine the videos, the timeline of the recordings and the substance that was allegedly added to the tea.

Medical records and test results could also play an important role if the husband and his parents reported similar symptoms.

The police will also have to consider the competing claims made by the husband and wife.

On one side, Himanshu has alleged an attempt to slowly poison his family. On the other, Jyoti has denied using any poisonous substance and has claimed that her husband knew about the ingredients she was adding.

The police will need to establish whether the substance shown in the videos was actually harmful, what exactly it was and why it was being added.

The fact that the videos are reportedly old may also form part of the investigation into the timeline of the dispute.

Why the case has attracted attention

The Kanpur case has drawn attention because of the unusual allegation involving tea, hidden cameras and claims of "vashikaran" or trying to control a mother-in-law.

But behind the viral videos is a much wider family dispute involving allegations of domestic violence, dowry harassment, money demands and marital conflict.

Both sides have made serious claims against each other, and the viral footage alone may not provide the full picture. Jyoti's latest statement has added a new layer to the case by claiming that her husband was aware of the videos and had himself sent her content about using cloves and turmeric.

Himanshu's original complaint, meanwhile, alleges that his wife was secretly trying to harm him and his parents.

Police officials have said that allegations from both sides are being examined and that further action will be taken based on the evidence. Until the investigation is complete, the claims made by either side should be treated as allegations rather than established facts.

One user asked, “But what’s the fault of the lorry driver?”, while another similarly questioned the truck driver’s role.

Others focused on road safety and hazard awareness, arguing that drivers need to be prepared for animals or other unexpected obstacles suddenly appearing on roads.

However, the exact circumstances and responsibility in the accident have not yet been established. Police investigation is continuing, and the FIR is expected to help determine the sequence of events.

A murder investigation that began in Noida has taken an unexpected turn nearly 1,000 kilometres away in Katihar, where a man wanted in connection with the death of a young woman was arrested in a separate liquor case. The accused, identified by police as Raman Raj, is a resident of Katihar in Bihar. Noida Police had been searching for him after the body of a woman, identified as Mahek Ahmed, was found inside his rented room in the Barola area.

Raman was subsequently arrested by Katihar Police in connection with an alleged liquor offence. Noida Police have now reached Katihar and are following the required legal process to seek his custody for questioning in the murder investigation, according to a report by Aaj Tak.

'She Fell From Roof': BSF Jawan Arrested for Beating Wife to Death Hours After Returning Home on Leave

The night before Mahek’s body was found

Mahek, who was from Assam, lived with her friend in room number 13 of a rented building in Barola. Raman lived on the same floor in room number 23. Police said the two knew each other and were friends.

According to Mahek’s roommate, the two were seen together during the night of August 7 and 8. The woman allegedly saw Mahek and Raman drinking on Raman’s balcony.

They reportedly had a bottle of liquor, a bottle of water and chips with them and spent some time talking. Later, both went inside Raman’s room.

The next morning, Mahek’s roommate noticed that she was missing from their room. She called her phone, but it was switched off.

The roommate then went towards Raman’s room and found its door locked. Raman’s phone was also unreachable, raising suspicion.

The building owner, Sarthak Bansal, was informed about the situation. A caretaker subsequently broke open the lock.

'Gen Alpha's Harmful Trend': Mother's Viral Video Over 'Birthday Bumps' Sparks Debate Among Parents

Body found inside locked room

When the door was opened, people reportedly noticed a strong smell coming from inside. Mahek’s body was found lying on the floor. Police said it was covered in blood.

The police were immediately informed and reached the building to begin their investigation.

Two major questions confronted investigators: how had Mahek ended up inside Raman’s room, and where had Raman gone?

Police questioned Mahek’s roommate and other people living in the building. Their statements reportedly strengthened suspicion around Raman.

A murder case was registered at Sector 49 police station in Noida on August 10, following which police began searching for him.

By then, however, Raman had allegedly left Noida.

'Hisab Kitab Kar Do': Viral Video Captures Ghaziabad Cop's Alleged Passport Bribe Demand (WATCH)

From Noida to his hometown

Investigators traced Raman’s movements and learnt that he had travelled towards Katihar, his hometown in Bihar.

However, his arrival in Katihar brought another unexpected development.

Bihar has prohibition on alcohol. During a police patrol, personnel from Katihar Nagar Police allegedly spotted Raman near Phulwari Kali Mandir Pokhar.

Police said five bottles of liquor were recovered from him. He was arrested and a case was registered against him under the state’s liquor prohibition laws.

At that stage, Katihar Police were dealing with a liquor case, while Noida Police were searching for the same man in connection with a murder investigation.

The two cases came together when Noida Police learnt that Raman was already in custody in Katihar.

'One Step At A Time': Mother's Heartwarming Cane Lesson For Visually Impaired Daughter Wins Internet

Noida Police reach Katihar

A Noida Police team subsequently travelled to Katihar to take the investigation forward.

However, Raman cannot simply be taken from Bihar to Uttar Pradesh because he is already in custody in another case. The Noida team must complete the necessary court and judicial procedures before obtaining his custody.

Police are therefore pursuing the required process to seek his remand for questioning in connection with the Noida murder case.

Katihar DSP Vishal Anand said Raman had been arrested in the liquor case and that Noida Police had reached Katihar in connection with the murder investigation. He also said Katihar Police were cooperating with the Noida team.

What happened inside the room?

Several questions remain unanswered.

Investigators will need to establish exactly what happened after Mahek entered Raman’s room that night. They will also have to determine how she died, whether she was attacked, what may have led to her death and whether anyone else was involved.

Police are also expected to examine Raman’s movements after the incident and the route he took from Noida to Katihar.

The discovery of Mahek’s body and Raman’s absence from the room are central parts of the investigation so far. However, the allegations against him have not been established in court and remain subject to police investigation and judicial proceedings.

For now, a case that began with the discovery of a young woman’s body in a rented room in Noida has moved to Katihar, where police are waiting for the legal process to allow them to question the man they suspect in the case.

His questioning could provide crucial leads about what happened on the night of August 7 and 8 and help investigators piece together the circumstances surrounding Mahek’s death.

UP Man Takes On Giant Python As It Tries To Enter His House, Video Goes Viral

Heavy monsoon rain has left several parts of Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi struggling with waterlogging. A video of an auto-rickshaw overturning on a flooded road has gone viral online amid heavy rain in the city. The footage shows the auto travelling through a waterlogged stretch before losing balance and overturning. Moments later, a biker also lost balance and fell in the waterlogged area. The incidents have added to concerns among residents dealing with flooded roads, slow traffic and water that has remained on streets even after the rain stopped.

A video showing severe monsoon flooding in Varanasi has gone viral on social media, sparking reactions from netizens over the condition of waterlogged streets in the city.Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi since 2014, had earlier been… pic.twitter.com/I28b77wkWd

— Hate Detector (@HateDetectors) August 7, 2026

5 Killed In Uttarakhand Accident: Rescue Operations On After Car Falls Into Gorge On Devprayag-Pauri Road

Auto overturns on flooded road

The viral video captures the moment the auto appears to lose control in the waterlogged area and overturn. The condition of the driver or passengers, if any, was not immediately clear from the footage.

The video quickly spread on social media, where users reacted to the difficult road conditions seen in the city.

Some comments focused on the dangers faced by commuters, while others used humour to describe the situation. One user pointed to the lack of a proper drainage system, while others questioned why the same problem continues during the monsoon.

Thai Weightlifter's 124kg Lift Goes Viral After Sassy Celebration Steals Show (WATCH)

22 areas report waterlogging

Waterlogging has been reported across around 22 areas of Varanasi following two days of heavy rainfall. Places affected include Chitaipur, Benipur, Rohania, Cantt, Lahartara, Shivala, Bhelupur, Lallapura, Pitakunda, Sonia and Manduadih.

Municipal quick-response teams were sent to affected areas to deal with the waterlogging. However, residents continued to report water remaining on several roads even after the rainfall eased.

For many locals, the issue is not simply the heavy rain but how long the water takes to drain away.

Viral video sparks civic debate

The visuals have also brought renewed attention to Varanasi's drainage and urban planning. Social media users questioned the city's “Smart City” claims and the effectiveness of local civic management.

Overflowing Vikas on full display at Chodi’s own constituency- Varanasi. pic.twitter.com/BwnRLyqple

— Manish RJ (@mrjethwani1) August 7, 2026

Some also linked the situation to the long-standing vision of developing Varanasi as a modern, well-planned city. Critics said repeated waterlogging shows that better drainage and long-term planning are still needed.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also conducted an aerial inspection of affected parts of Varanasi as officials assessed the situation.

The latest viral video has therefore become more than a clip of an overturned auto. For many residents and online users, it has once again raised a basic question: why do the city's roads continue to flood so badly whenever heavy monsoon rain arrives?

The first case took place on Sunday, July 19, when five-year-old Sunahari, daughter of Vinod Kumar, was bitten by a snake inside the family home.

The snake was reportedly identified as a krait, a venomous species. Sunahari was treated for around 24 hours, but her condition did not improve. She died on July 20.

Is Your Child Eating Too Much Sugar And Salt? A staff nurse was on duty at the time, while a doctor and other paramedical personnel were reportedly present nearby.

According to officials, the incident took place late on August 14 in the medical ward. The footage later surfaced on social media, prompting concerns about whether an untrained security worker was allowed to handle medicines intended for patients.

The incident has particularly drawn attention because preparing and administering medication is a clinical responsibility and should be handled by appropriately trained healthcare personnel.

Mass Hysteria or Spirits? 608 Students Flee Maharashtra School After Nighttime 'Ghungroo' Sounds

Guard and nurse face action

Hospital authorities launched an internal inquiry after the video emerged. Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Ashok Kumar Jha said action had been taken against staff nurse Richa Kumari and security guard Sunil Kumar. Current reports say both were dismissed following the inquiry.

Both workers were outsourced and employed on a contractual basis. Sunil Kumar had reportedly been deployed at the hospital through a private agency based in Aligarh, reported the Times of India. It is generally made using synthetic material such as nylon and can be coated with abrasive material, making it extremely sharp and difficult to break.

When stretched across roads, the nearly invisible string can pose a serious danger to motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians and animals. A rider travelling at speed may have little or no time to spot it before it catches the neck or another exposed part of the body.

The string can cause deep cuts and, in serious cases, fatal injuries.

Chinese manjha is banned, but still sold

The National Green Tribunal banned the manufacture, sale, storage, purchase and use of nylon and synthetic manjha across India in 2017. Uttar Pradesh has also enforced restrictions on Chinese manjha.

Despite the ban, the string continues to be sold illegally in several places, leading to repeated accidents.

Violations can attract action under environmental laws, including penalties under the Environment (Protection) Act. Authorities have also taken action against shops found selling banned manjha, including sealing premises in some cases.
