A viral video on social media has started a strong debate about urban safety. The clip shows a European traveller using her smartphone freely on a busy street in Mumbai while comparing it to her video of not being able to do so in London, the United Kingdom. Many viewers were surprised, as it challenges the common belief that Western cities are always safer than places in the East. The video has gained millions of views on platforms like X and Instagram, with people from around the world sharing their opinions.

What the video shows

In the video, the traveller walks through a crowded market, filming casually. She holds her phone loosely and even leaves it on a café table for a moment while adjusting her bag.

In her caption, she said she felt 'less stressed' about her phone in India than in London. She added that in places like Kerala, Guwahati and Meghalaya, she did not feel worried about her belongings.

However, she said her experience in London was very different. She described being extra careful, holding her phone tightly and checking her bag often.
    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Emma ✈️ UGC | BANGKOK | Backpacking South East Asia✨ (@discoverwithemma_)

The video comes at a time when London is facing a rise in street crime, especially phone theft. Reports suggest that a phone is stolen every few minutes in the city.

A common method is 'moped muggings', where thieves ride past quickly and grab phones from people’s hands. Areas like Westminster and Camden are said to be major hotspots, with both tourists and locals targeted.

This type of organised, fast-moving theft has become a growing concern in the UK capital.

How India compares

In India, petty crimes like pickpocketing and chain snatching do exist. There are also serious concerns around women’s safety in many parts of the country.

However, the specific pattern of high-speed phone snatching seen in London is less common in cities like Mumbai or Bengaluru. Many locals say people often use their phones openly in public spaces without constant fear.

Experts say safety can vary widely across different cities and even neighbourhoods in both countries. So, one experience may not reflect the full picture.

Mixed reactions online

The video has divided social media users into two main groups. Some travellers agreed with the creator and shared similar experiences. A few said they had phones stolen in London but felt safe in India.

Others disagreed and said the comparison was unfair. Some users argued that cities like Delhi should be included in the discussion. A few also pointed out that crime exists everywhere, and people should stay careful no matter where they are.

There were also many jokes and memes, showing how the topic has caught public attention.

Importantly, some comments online included offensive or divisive remarks. These do not reflect the views of most users and highlight how online discussions can sometimes turn negative.

A wider safety conversation

The viral clip has opened a larger conversation about how people view safety in different parts of the world. It shows that personal experience can sometimes challenge popular beliefs.

At the same time, experts say it is important not to generalise. Both India and London have their own safety challenges.

In the end, staying aware and careful remains important, no matter where you are.

CCTV footage showed Mahoney preparing to throw a rugby ball when the car moved straight towards him. He was thrown into the air and crashed onto the concrete before the vehicle stopped, according to The Times report.

Mahoney suffered serious injuries in the crash. He fractured his arm, leg and a finger. He later said his life had become a “daily struggle” after the incident.

He told the court he now lives with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The injuries and trauma have affected his daily routine and wellbeing.

Dyas told the court she hit Mahoney because she “lost concentration” while chatting to a friend inside the car. However, prosecutors said she drove deliberately and directly at him.

The court sentenced Dyas to 18 months in a young offender institution. She broke down in tears when the sentence was announced. The judge also banned her from driving for about three years.

Dyas had hoped to become a nurse before the incident.

The case has renewed debate on road safety rules for young drivers. Campaigners said the crash highlights risks when inexperienced drivers carry friends as passengers. They urged ministers to consider stronger restrictions, though such measures were not included in planned motoring law reforms.

The incident has drawn attention because of the clear CCTV footage and the serious impact on the victim. It has also raised wider questions about responsibility, distraction behind the wheel and safety in public spaces such as station car parks.

An Indian-origin woman working as a Speech and Language Therapist in the United Kingdom has been dismissed after concerns were raised about her ability to understand and communicate in English. Sai Keerthana Sriperambuduru joined the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in October 2023. She worked as a Band 5 paediatric speech and language therapist. However, within weeks of starting her role, colleagues noticed that she was struggling to understand both patients and staff.

Questions raised soon after joining

According to reports, Sriperambuduru had stated in her job application that English was her first language. Because of this, she was not required to provide proof of language proficiency. But problems became clear early on. Co-workers found it difficult to communicate with her, and there were concerns about her ability to carry out her duties safely. As a speech and language therapist, clear communication is a key part of the job, especially when working with children and families.

Also Read: Dhanbad Woman's Body Kept For Days, Brother Tries To Burn It At Home

Review meetings reveal issues

The hospital held a review meeting on November 7, 2023. During this meeting, Sriperambuduru admitted that Telugu, not English, was her first language. In another review meeting held in December, she said she had started taking English lessons outside work. She also shared that she found it hard to understand fast speech, especially from children and parents. She faced difficulties with pronunciation, sentence structure, grammar, and writing down conversations.

Unusual request during hiring process

Her line manager told the panel that during the hiring process, Sriperambuduru had asked for a chat-box option for the interview. This meant that questions would be typed instead of asked face-to-face. The manager described this as unusual, especially since she was already living in the UK at the time. The panel later saw this request as a possible attempt to hide her language difficulties.

Also Read: UP Sub-Inspector Found Drunk, Semi-Naked On VIP Duty During CM Event, Suspended

Dismissal after probation period

After completing eight months of probation, Sriperambuduru was dismissed in June 2024. The Trust said it could not continue to provide the level of support she needed without affecting patient care and the wider team. A spokesperson confirmed that her employment lasted from October 2023 to June 2024. Reports of her dismissal came to light only recently.

Tribunal and panel findings

Sriperambuduru challenged the decision and took the case to the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service (HCPTS). She argued that her education was in English, and she believed it could be considered her first language. In her written submission, she said she did not realise that the UK definition required English to be the main language used in daily life. She also admitted later that she had not taken the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam before coming to the UK. However, the panel rejected her arguments. It ruled that she had tried to mislead the Trust about her language ability to secure the job. As a result, she was removed from the professional register.

Clear rules on language requirements

The application form clearly asks candidates whether English is their first language. It also explains that this means the main language used in everyday life. The form states that studying in English or completing education in English does not automatically make it a person’s first language.

This case has raised questions about language checks in sensitive roles like healthcare. Experts say strong communication skills are essential, especially when dealing with patients. The incident also shows how important it is to provide correct information during job applications.

The Bayeux Tapestry is a famous embroidered cloth from the 11th century. It tells the story of the events that led to the Norman Conquest of England. Nearly 70 metres long, it shows the struggle for the English throne between William, Duke of Normandy, and King Harold II. The story ends with the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

A new study by a British historian has offered an interesting new idea about one of history's greatest mysteries, the original purpose of the Bayeux Tapestry. The research suggests that the famous medieval artwork may have been created to hang in a monastery dining hall, where monks would look at it while eating their meals.

The study was carried out by Professor Benjamin Pohl from the University of Bristol. His paper was published this week in the academic journal Historical Research.

What is the Bayeux Tapestry?

The Bayeux Tapestry is one of the most famous works of medieval art in the world. It is not a tapestry in the usual sense, but a long piece of embroidered cloth. It is about 68 metres long and weighs around 350 kilograms.

The embroidery tells the story of the events that led to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. This was the battle in which William, Duke of Normandy, invaded England and defeated King Harold II, becoming King William I of England.

The Tapestry shows battles, ships, kings, soldiers and everyday life in the 11th century.

A mystery that has lasted centuries

Although the Bayeux Tapestry has been studied for hundreds of years, many basic questions remain unanswered. Historians still do not know exactly where it was first displayed. There are also questions about who it was made for, who was meant to look at it, and what message it was meant to send.

The first written record of the Tapestry only appears in 1476, when it was listed in an inventory at Bayeux Cathedral in France. Before that date, there are no clear records showing where it was kept or even if people knew it existed.

A new idea: a monastery dining hall

Professor Pohl's research focuses on where the Tapestry may have been designed to be shown. He suggests that the most suitable place may have been the refectory, or dining hall, of St Augustine’s Abbey in Canterbury.

A refectory was where monks ate together in silence while listening to readings. Visual stories on walls could support these readings and help monks reflect on moral lessons and history.

Professor Pohl believes the Tapestry’s long shape and detailed scenes would have worked well in such a space.

Why St Augustine's Abbey?

Many historians already agree that the Bayeux Tapestry was likely designed at St Augustine's Abbey in the 1080s. At that time, the abbey was led by Abbot Scolland, a Norman monk who had come from Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy.

There is also strong agreement that Odo, Bishop of Bayeux and half-brother of William the Conqueror, was involved in some way. However, experts still debate how direct his role was.

St Augustine's Abbey was an important religious centre and had the skills and resources needed to produce such a complex work.

Students helped shape the theory

Professor Pohl said the idea developed during a seminar with his students. Together, they studied the Bayeux Tapestry and discussed different theories about where it may have been displayed.

They looked at many large rooms inside a monastery, such as the church, dormitory, chapter house and refectory. The refectory stood out as a place where people would have time to look closely at the scenes and think about their meaning.

Solving old contradictions

One reason Professor Pohl supports the refectory theory is that it helps answer long-standing questions. Scholars have often argued about whether the Tapestry was meant for a religious or secular audience. Others have questioned whether viewers needed to be able to read Latin to understand it.

There has also been debate about whether the story supports the English, the Normans, or neither side. Professor Pohl argues that all these questions make sense if the audience was a group of educated monks.

No proof, but strong reasoning

Professor Pohl is clear that there is no physical proof that the Bayeux Tapestry was ever displayed at St Augustine’s Abbey. He suggests one possible reason for this lack of evidence.

The abbey’s new refectory may not have been finished until the 1120s, even though the Tapestry was likely made in the 1080s. This could mean the Tapestry was put into storage for many years and later forgotten, according to Daily Mail.

It may only have reappeared centuries later, eventually ending up in Bayeux.

Why mealtimes mattered in the Middle Ages

In the Middle Ages, mealtimes were important social moments. They were times for shared identity, learning and reflection. Professor Pohl believes the Bayeux Tapestry would have fit perfectly into this setting.

The monks could view the scenes while thinking about history, power, loyalty and faith.

Returning to Britain after 1,000 years

Next year, the Bayeux Tapestry will go on display at the British Museum. This will be the first time it has been shown in the UK since it was made nearly 1,000 years ago.

The exhibition is expected to attract huge public interest. Professor Pohl’s research adds fresh meaning to how modern audiences may understand the Tapestry.

A mystery that still invites debate

There is still no final answer to where the Bayeux Tapestry was first displayed. Professor Pohl accepts that the mystery may never be fully solved.

However, his research offers a thoughtful, new idea and reminds us that even famous historical objects can still surprise us.

King Charles III arrives in Washington for a four-day state visit at a moment that feels anything but routine. What should have been a symbolic exercise in renewing the so-called “special relationship” has instead become a delicate balancing act—set against political unpredictability, security concerns, and lingering royal controversies.

With the 250th anniversary of American independence as the backdrop, the British monarch has been tasked with “reaffirming and renewing” ties with the United States. But the circumstances surrounding the visit have turned it into one of the most complex diplomatic missions of his reign.

A visit with an unusually high degree of difficulty

Historians are not understating the stakes. Contemporary political historian Anthony Seldon described the April 27–30 visit as “obviously beyond tricky,” noting it carries a “degree of difficulty” rarely seen in modern statecraft.

He compared it to historic moments of strain in transatlantic relations—between Lyndon B Johnson and Harold Wilson, Richard Nixon and Edward Heath, and even Dwight Eisenhower and Anthony Eden during the fallout of the Suez Crisis.

“But this is different,” Seldon suggested, largely because of the unpredictability of Donald Trump. “Because you are dealing with somebody who is so unpredictable,” he was quoted as saying in The Guardian report.

Yet Seldon also pointed to a curious advantage: Charles may be one of the few figures Trump is unlikely to antagonise openly. That, he argued, could give the monarch some room to manoeuvre. This is, in Seldon’s words, “the most important visit of the king’s life”—one where he could either “be very cautious and safe” or subtly remind Americans of the principles on which their nation was founded.

Security concerns sharpen after Washington shooting

The visit unfolds just days after a shooting disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, forcing the evacuation of top officials, including Trump.

UK officials insist that security is being taken “very seriously.” Treasury minister Darren Jones confirmed that “appropriate security” measures are in place and that discussions are ongoing between British and American teams.

“There were already extensive discussions taking place, which will continue over the coming days,” he said, underlining the fluid nature of the planning.

Behind the scenes, Buckingham Palace is in constant coordination with US authorities, assessing whether the weekend’s events require further adjustments to what was already a tightly controlled visit.

A speech that could define the visit

At the heart of the trip lies a moment that could shape its legacy: King Charles III's address to a joint session of Congress.

The speech will be televised globally, and expectations are high. Buckingham Palace has indicated that the King will “recognise the challenges that our countries face.” But striking the right tone will be crucial—especially given Trump’s reputation for taking offence.

When Queen Elizabeth II addressed Congress in 1991, she spoke of the dangers of power that grows “from the barrel of a gun” and emphasised NATO, liberal values, and cultural diversity. According to historian Philip Murphy, such language today “would be taken as a direct attack on Trump.”

Instead, Charles is expected to take a more nuanced route—appealing “almost over the head of Trump to the American public.” The message, Murphy suggested, will likely emphasise shared values: democracy, freedom, and a long-standing cultural bond.

Seldon believes the King may not need to mention Trump at all. A carefully crafted speech, “very deftly, gently, and in a polite and respectful way,” could remind Americans of their foundational ideals—leaving listeners to draw their own conclusions about whether current leadership aligns with those principles.

Private talks, public risks

One of the most sensitive moments of the visit will take place behind closed doors: a private meeting between Charles and Trump in the Oval Office.

The decision to keep discussions private—limited to a brief photo opportunity—appears deliberate. It follows global attention on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent diplomatic discomfort in Washington.

Charles enters the room aware of past tensions. Trump has previously criticised the UK prime minister and mocked British military capabilities. As monarch, Charles is also head of state of Canada—a country that has faced its own provocations from Trump.

“He’ll be very careful about what he says,” Murphy noted, adding that anything discussed privately could easily find its way into the public domain. “I don’t think Trump has a strong sense of what is private and what is not.”

Lingering shadows: Epstein and royal rifts

Beyond geopolitics, the visit is shadowed by unresolved royal controversies.

Questions surrounding Jeffrey Epstein and his connections to the British royal family have resurfaced. Calls from US figures, including Congresswoman Ro Khanna, for the King and Queen Camilla to meet Epstein survivors have been firmly declined by the palace. Officials argue such a meeting could interfere with ongoing investigations and legal proceedings.

At the same time, the absence of any interaction with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle—who live in California—underscores the continuing distance within the royal family. No reunion is planned during the visit.

There is also the risk of protests or public disruptions, though the itinerary has been carefully designed to minimise unscripted encounters. A single “block party” appearance in Virginia may be the only moment where the King and Queen come into direct contact with the public.

A moment of risk—and opportunity

For all its risks, the visit also offers King Charles III a chance to reshape perceptions.

After years dominated by headlines about royal disputes and scandal, this trip provides an opportunity to demonstrate the enduring relevance of the monarchy on the global stage.

As Murphy put it, “one talks about the risks, but there’s also a benefit for him here.” By rising above political divisions and focusing on shared values, Charles may yet reinforce a relationship that has weathered crises before.

Whether he succeeds will depend not just on diplomacy, but on tone, timing—and a careful reading of a moment where symbolism and politics are tightly intertwined.

A new report suggests British cryptographer Adam Back could be Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, citing similarities in ideas, writing style, and early connections. However, the claim remains unproven and Back has denied it.

A new report by The New York Times has once again brought back one of the biggest mysteries in the tech world, the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the unknown creator of Bitcoin.

The report suggests that Adam Back, a well-known British cryptographer, could be the person behind the name Satoshi Nakamoto.

Bitcoin’s founder, Satoshi Nakamoto, has remained hidden for 17 years. A trail of clues — and a year of digging by our reporter, John Carreyrou — led us to a 55-year-old computer scientist in El Salvador named Adam Back. https://t.co/s6Jy00IDdk

— The New York Times (@nytimes) April 8, 2026

However, the claim is still unproven, and Back has strongly denied it.

The investigation is based on months of research into old emails, online forum posts, and cryptography records.

It highlights several similarities between Adam Back’s work and the ideas that later became central to Bitcoin.

Back is known for inventing Hashcash, a system created to reduce spam emails. This system used a concept called proof-of-work, which later became a key part of Bitcoin.

The report says that Back had already discussed ideas like decentralised systems, digital scarcity, and online money years before Bitcoin was launched.

Similarities in writing and thinking

One of the key points in the report is the similarity in writing style.

The investigation used stylometric analysis, which studies how people write. It found that Back and Satoshi used similar language, formatting, and habits.

For example, both reportedly used British English and double spacing after full stops. There were also similarities in how they used technical terms and explained complex ideas.

Reasons why Adam Back is Satoshi Nakamoto:• Invented Hashcash in 1997 • Bitcoin uses Hashcash proof of work • Satoshi mentioned Hashcash in the whitepaper• Satoshi emailed him in 2008 asking permission to cite it • Rare linguistic matches uncovered by NYT •… https://t.co/jncLufWZZ3 pic.twitter.com/X1pf6mzqHv

— Crypto Jargon (@Crypto_Jargon) April 8, 2026

The report also pointed to shared beliefs about privacy, decentralisation, and the future of digital money.

Another important link is that Adam Back was mentioned in Bitcoin’s original white paper.

In 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto published a paper titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System”. This document explained how Bitcoin would work.

The report says that Satoshi had even contacted Back through email while working on the project.

In the past, this was seen as proof that they were different people. But the new report suggests that these interactions could have been a way to hide the real identity.

Back denies the claim

Despite the strong claims, Adam Back has once again rejected the idea that he is Satoshi Nakamoto.

In a post on X, he said clearly that he is not the creator of Bitcoin.

i'm not satoshi, but I was early in laser focus on the positive societal implications of cryptography, online privacy and electronic cash, hence my ~1992 onwards active interest in applied research on ecash, privacy tech on cypherpunks list which led to hashcash and other ideas.

— Adam Back (@adam3us) April 8, 2026

He explained that he has been interested in cryptography, privacy, and electronic cash since the early 1990s. His work on Hashcash and other projects came from this long-term interest.

While @JohnCarreyrou and other observers point to Adam Back (@adam3us) as the definitive "Satoshi Nakamoto" due to linguistic fingerprints, the technical and logistical evidence suggests a more complex reality: Satoshi was not a lone wolf, but a high-level collective. Adam Back… pic.twitter.com/AOQBVKKBeu

— Brand (@Brand) April 8, 2026

Back also said that many people have guessed Satoshi’s identity over the years, but none of these claims have been proven.

The identity of Satoshi Nakamoto has remained unknown since Bitcoin was created.

The name first appeared in 2008, when the white paper was released. In 2009, Satoshi mined the first Bitcoin, known as the Genesis Block.

Between 2009 and 2010, Satoshi was active online, working with other developers and improving the system.

Then, in 2011, Satoshi suddenly disappeared and stopped all communication.

Adam Back is the 13th Satoshi Nakamoto I can remember. Here's the full list:13. Adam Back - NYT investigation, denied 6 times (2026)12. Peter Todd - HBO documentary, called it "absurd" (2024)11. Craig Wright - Wired/Gizmodo, UK court ruled him a fraud (2015)10. Some documentaries and films have also tried to solve the mystery.

For example, a film called “Killing Satoshi” explored different theories about the creator’s identity.

Another documentary, “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery”, suggested that Peter Todd could be Satoshi.

However, none of these claims have been confirmed.

Even tech figure John McAfee had earlier suggested that Adam Back might be Satoshi, adding to the speculation.

Why proof is difficult

Experts say that proving Satoshi’s identity is extremely hard.

The only clear way would be if the person controls the original Bitcoin wallet created by Satoshi.

These coins are believed to be worth billions of pounds. However, the wallet has not been used since 2011.

This silence has made it even harder to confirm any claims.

While the report relies partly on writing style analysis, experts say this is not enough proof.

Stylometric methods can suggest similarities, but they cannot confirm identity on their own.

Many people may share similar writing habits, especially in technical fields.

Because of this, the evidence in the report is seen as circumstantial, not final.

So, why the name Satoshi Nakamoto?

Satoshi Nakamoto is the unknown person or group who created Bitcoin. The name first appeared on October 31, 2008, when the Bitcoin white paper was published. Nakamoto also built the first version of Bitcoin and created the world’s first blockchain database.

He remained active in Bitcoin’s development until December 2010 before disappearing completely. His real identity is still unknown, though many believe he may be a British cryptography expert despite using a Japanese name.

Nakamoto is believed to own about 1.1 million bitcoins. If true, this would make him one of the richest people in the world, with holdings worth billions.

Why the mystery matters

The identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is not just a curiosity. It has deeper importance for the world of technology and finance.

Bitcoin is one of the most important digital innovations of the modern era. Knowing who created it could help people better understand its purpose and future direction.

At the same time, some believe that Satoshi’s anonymity is part of Bitcoin’s strength.

The system was designed to work without a central authority, and the unknown identity of its creator supports that idea.

Crypto community reacts cautiously

The crypto community has reacted carefully to the new report.

Many people say they have seen similar claims before, and most have not stood the test of time.

There is a general feeling that without clear proof, such theories should not be taken as fact.

Still, the report has sparked fresh discussion and interest in the mystery.

The new investigation has once again put Adam Back at the centre of the debate over who created Bitcoin. While the report presents several interesting connections, it does not provide clear proof.

Back has denied the claim, and experts remain cautious.

For now, the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto remains unknown, one of the biggest unsolved puzzles in the digital age.

The governmanet also said that Babbar Akali Lehar is associated with, and involved in, Babbar Khalsa's terrorist activities by promoting and encouraging and carrying out recruitment activities for the group and itself.

All funds and economic resources in the UK owned, held or controlled by Rehal or Babbar Akali Lehar are now subject to an asset freeze. Rehal is also subject to director disqualification sanctions which prohibit him from acting as a director of a company or directly or indirectly taking part in or being concerned in the promotion, formation or management of a company.

UK's Firm Stance on Terror Financing

Economic Secretary to the Treasury Lucy Rigby said, " We will not stand by while terrorists exploit Britain's financial system. This landmark action shows we are prepared to use every tool at our disposal to choke off funding for terrorism, wherever it occurs and whoever is responsible. The UK stands firmly with peaceful communities against those who promote violence and hatred.

Legal Framework for Sanctions

The Counter-Terrorism (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 (the Regulations) allow the Treasury department in the UK to freeze assets and impose restrictions on individuals and entities suspected of involvement in terrorism.

Babbar Khalsa is a proscribed terrorist organisation.

London is once again facing deep concern after two Jewish men were stabbed in broad daylight in Golders Green, a north London area known for its large Jewish community. The attack happened on Wednesday morning and is being treated as a terrorist incident by the Metropolitan Police. The case has shocked Britain, not only because of the violence itself, but because it comes after weeks of attacks on Jewish sites across London. Fresh body camera footage released by police has now brought the dramatic arrest into public view.

London police released footage from officers’ body cameras of the neutralization of the terrorist who carried out yesterday’s stabbing – he was neutralized using a Taser. https://t.co/GHKT6BqIOI pic.twitter.com/8wz8xOhAcL

— Mossad Commentary (@MOSSADil) April 30, 2026

The video shows armed officers confronting the suspect. One officer can clearly be heard shouting, "Drop the knife, drop the knife," before police use a Taser to bring him to the ground. Officers then quickly remove the weapon from his hand and arrest him. The footage has become a major talking point across the country.

What happened in Golders Green?

The attack unfolded shortly after 11 am on Wednesday. A man armed with a knife allegedly targeted members of the public in Golders Green. The Shomrim Jewish neighbourhood watch group was among the first to raise the alarm, warning that a knife-wielding attacker was trying to stab Jewish residents.

Two men, aged 76 and 34, were injured in the attacks. Both were taken to hospital and are now in stable condition. Police arrested a 45-year-old British man who was born in Somalia and came to the UK as a child.

Authorities say the suspect also attempted to stab police officers before he was subdued.

Body camera footage captures dramatic arrest

The Metropolitan Police released body camera footage soon after the incident.

The video shows officers rushing towards the suspect. One repeatedly orders him to drop the knife. When he refuses, officers fire a Taser. He falls to the ground, and officers quickly secure the knife.

The footage highlights how fast-moving and dangerous the situation was.

It has also led to praise for the officers involved, who acted within seconds to prevent further harm.

Suspect remains in custody

Police say the suspect was first taken to hospital before later being discharged and formally arrested.

He remains in custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

Investigators are also linking him to another incident earlier the same morning in southeast London, where one person suffered minor injuries.

Counter-terrorism officers are now leading the investigation.

Police reveal troubling background

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley visited Golders Green after the attack. He said the suspect had a history of serious violence and mental health issues.

That revelation has raised difficult questions about whether earlier intervention could have prevented the attack.

Police are now examining his recent movements, online activity and possible contacts.

Iran-linked group claims responsibility

A little-known group called Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya, or HAYI, has claimed responsibility. According to SITE Intelligence Group, the organisation said one of its "lone wolves" carried out the stabbings.

British authorities have not confirmed that claim.

However, police are taking it seriously, especially because HAYI has already claimed responsibility for several recent attacks on Jewish targets in London.

The group is believed to have links to Iran.

A community already under pressure

Golders Green has been on edge for weeks. Since March, Jewish schools, synagogues, ambulances and community buildings have all been targeted. These attacks include arson, petrol bombs and vandalism.

For many local residents, Wednesday's stabbings felt like a frightening escalation.

One resident, Moshie, told reporters he now constantly worries about whether strangers might be carrying knives.

That fear is becoming part of daily life.

Timeline of recent attacks

The latest stabbing did not happen in isolation.

March 23

Four Hatzola ambulances were destroyed in an arson attack in Golders Green.

April 15

Attackers threw suspected petrol bombs at Finchley Reform Synagogue.

April 17

Police investigated suspicious substances near the Israeli embassy.

The same day, a former Jewish charity building in Hendon was targeted.

April 18

A suspected petrol bomb hit Kenton United Synagogue.

April 28

A memorial wall in Golders Green was targeted in a suspected arson attack.

April 29

Two Jewish men were stabbed in Golders Green.

The speed and frequency of these attacks have deeply alarmed the community.

Public anger spills onto the streets

Hours after the stabbings, around 150 people gathered near the attack site. Many waved British and Israeli flags.

There was visible anger. Protesters shouted, "Keir Starmer, Jew harmer," accusing the government of failing to act quickly enough.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan was also criticised.

For many, patience has run out.

Starmer promises visible action

Prime Minister Keir Starmer quickly convened an emergency meeting of ministers and officials. He later said the response must be "swift and visible".

That phrase has since become central to the government's message.

Starmer also confirmed he would meet criminal justice agencies to ensure rapid prosecutions. He plans to visit Golders Green personally.

Government announces £25 million security package

On Thursday, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood announced an extra £25 million for Jewish community security. The money will fund stronger protection at synagogues, schools, community centres and other Jewish institutions.

Mahmood said many people in the community feel deeply insecure. The funding aims to provide reassurance and practical protection.

New laws could be coming

The government also plans to introduce new legislation. Mahmood said current laws may not fully cover groups linked to hostile foreign states or their proxies.

The new measures will be fast-tracked in the coming weeks. This could significantly strengthen Britain's ability to tackle foreign-backed extremist networks.

King Charles responds from the United States

King Charles III, currently on a state visit to America, said he was deeply concerned. Buckingham Palace released a statement condemning the attack.

His message added to the growing national response.

Israel voices concern

Israel's foreign ministry also reacted strongly. It said the British government could no longer claim the situation was under control.

That statement reflects increasing international concern about antisemitic violence in Britain.

Praise for Shomrim and Hatzola

Local Jewish volunteer groups played a vital role. Shomrim members helped restrain the suspect before police arrived. Hatzola paramedics treated the victims at the scene.

Their rapid response earned widespread praise.

Many said their actions likely prevented even greater harm.

Fear and resilience

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis said the Jewish community remains strong and resilient. But he made one point crystal clear.

"Such attacks need to stop now." That message has been repeated across Britain.

Residents say they are determined not to be intimidated.

Yet many admit they are frightened.

Wider tensions in Britain

Monitoring groups have reported sharp rises in both antisemitic and Islamophobic incidents. These tensions have grown since the war between Israel and Hamas began.

The recent US-Israeli conflict with Iran has further intensified emotions. Police are working to prevent those overseas conflicts from fuelling violence on British streets.

Questions about security

The attacks have also raised questions about intelligence and policing. How were so many incidents able to happen in such a short time?

Could some have been prevented? Are hostile foreign actors exploiting domestic tensions? These are now central questions for investigators and ministers alike.

This was the first recent London attack against the Jewish community to be formally treated as terrorism from the outset.

That alone marks a significant development.

It suggests police believe the threat may be organised, ideological, or connected to wider extremist networks. The investigation could have major national security implications.

Police continue to question the suspect. Counter-terrorism officers are examining whether he acted alone. They are also investigating any links to HAYI or other groups.

Security has been increased across Jewish areas in London.

More arrests could follow.

(With inputs from agencies)

Mumbai-born law student Viraansh Bhanushali's Oxford Union speech is going viral amid a major controversy involving Pakistani Union president Moosa Harraj. While Harraj oversaw a disputed, aborted debate that let Pakistan claim a 'win', a separate student debate on the same motion saw Bhanushali decisively dismantle the Pakistani side.

The controversy, earlier, erupted at the Oxford Union Society after its Pakistani president, Moosa Harraj, was accused of staging a political stunt and declaring Pakistan the winner of a debate that never formally took place.

It's apparent that when faced with the reality of the team which was gathered to defeat the 'stacked' motion, @jsaideepak ji, @KhajuriaManu ji and myself, the @ukinpakistan team, sought to 'fix' an outcome without debate. That debate, led by Indian law student Viraansh Bhanushali, has now gained attention after the video was released and clips went viral online.

Who is Viraansh Bhanushali

Viraansh Bhanushali is a Mumbai-born law student studying at Oxford University. He led the Indian side in the student debate and spoke just a day after November 26, a date deeply linked with terror attacks in India.

Like millions of Mumbaikars, Bhanushali lived through the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, also known as 26/11. "Ten terrorists from the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out coordinated attacks across Mumbai, killing over 250 people and traumatising the city," he recalled during the debate..

Bhanushali used his personal experience to frame his argument at the Oxford Union, saying the debate should be grounded in real events rather than theory.

Debate backdrop and the Pakistan 'victory' claim

The controversy began after Moosa Harraj, the Pakistani president of the Oxford Union and son of Pakistan’s federal defence production minister Muhammad Raza Hayat Harraj, allowed Pakistan to claim victory in a debate that did not happen as planned.

Indian invitees, including advocate-author J Sai Deepak and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, later said the invitations were shared late and partially withheld, making it impossible for them to attend.

Sai Deepak publicly criticised the handling of the event, accusing the organisers of mismanagement. The student debate, however, went ahead separately and was recorded.

The Oxford Union released the student debate video on December 18.

A serious but respectful student debate

Despite political tensions, the student debate atmosphere appeared serious yet respectful. Bhanushali and Harraj referred to each other as 'friends' during the discussion. Yet, when defending their countries, both took strong and opposing positions.

Harraj argued that India often blames Pakistan for many of its problems, using sarcasm to say Indians would blame Pakistan even for personal misfortunes.

Bhanushali responded with detailed historical references and personal testimony.

Bhanushali begins with 26/11 memories

Bhanushali opened his speech by recalling the 26/11 attacks.

"One of those targets was Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus," he said, explaining that his aunt passed through the station almost every evening. By chance, she took a different train that night and survived.

"I was a schoolboy then, glued to the television as my city burnt," he said. He described the fear in his mother’s voice and the tension in his father’s silence. For three nights, he said, Mumbai did not sleep.

He explained that he shared the story not to darken the mood, but to show why India’s security policies cannot be dismissed as political tricks.

A city shaped by repeated terror attacks

Bhanushali said he grew up near a suburban railway station that was bombed during the 1993 serial blasts. Those attacks killed over 250 people across Mumbai.

“I grew up under the shadow of these tragedies,” he told the audience.

“So when someone claims that India’s tough stance towards Pakistan is just populism dressed up as security, you might understand why I bristle,” he said.

He compared security policies to locks on doors, saying no one installs locks for show if robberies are happening in the neighbourhood.

'I only need a calendar to win this debate'

One of Bhanushali’s most quoted lines came when he said, “To win this debate, I do not need rhetoric. I simply need a calendar.”

He pointed to the March 1993 Mumbai blasts, asking whether an election was near at the time. “No,” he said, adding that the next election was years away.

“Terror did not come because we needed votes,” he argued. “It came because Dawood and the ISI wanted to fracture India’s financial spine.”

Questioning the idea of populism after 26/11

Bhanushali asked what a truly populist government would have done after the 26/11 attacks.

“The public rage was nuclear,” he said. “A populist leader would have launched jets to win the next election.”

Instead, he said, the Congress-led government chose restraint, diplomacy, and international engagement. But he questioned the results of that approach. “Did it buy us peace?” he asked. “No. It bought us Pathankot. It bought us Uri. It bought us Pulwama.”

"We have learnt it the hard way, you cannot shame a state that has no shame," he added.

Timeline matters, says Indian student

Bhanushali then addressed claims that recent India-Pakistan clashes were election tactics. He said India’s general elections had already ended and the government was secure when the violence occurred.

He referred to the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, where terrorists linked to The Resistance Front, described as a Lashkar-e-Taiba rebrand, killed 26 tourists after identifying them by faith.

“They did not ask who they voted for, they executed them, he said.'

Explaining Operation Sindoor

Bhanushali explained the name of Operation Sindoor, linking it to the vermilion worn by married Hindu women. He said the name symbolised the widows left behind after the Pahalgam attack. He described the operation as a precise strike on nine terror launchpads, followed by restraint. “We punished the perpetrators. And then we stopped,” he said.

“That is not populism. That is professionalism.”

‘Defending citizens is not a trick’

Bhanushali said protecting citizens from terror should not be dismissed as political theatre. “If defending your citizens from being murdered is popular, that does not make it a trick,” he said.

He then turned his criticism towards Pakistan, accusing it of using war narratives to distract from internal problems.

“You cannot give your people bread, so you give them the circus,” he said, arguing that war talk is used to convert public hardship into political power.

'India wants boring neighbours'

Bhanushali ended by saying India does not want war.

“We want to be boring neighbours,” he said. “We want to trade onions and electricity.” But he added that until terror is abandoned as a foreign policy tool, India would remain alert.

“If that is populism,” he concluded, “then I am a populist.”

Debate video goes viral amid wider controversy

Although the student debate happened earlier, clips of Bhanushali’s speech have gone viral only now, amid the Oxford Union controversy.

Many online users praised his calm delivery and use of historical timelines rather than emotional slogans.

The debate has once again shown how India and Pakistan continue to clash even in academic spaces, decades after their political conflicts began.

Pakistan's misuse of Oxford Union debate sparks controversy

The planned Oxford Union debate on India-Pakistan relations never took place as Indian participants accused Pakistan of deliberately staging a false narrative to claim 'victory' in a debate (that was never meant to happen).

The motion in question was: “This House believes that India’s policy towards Pakistan is a populist strategy sold as security policy.” The Oxford Union is known for open and honest intellectual debate, but Indian speakers now say the process behind this event was manipulated by the Union’s Pakistani-origin president, Moosa Harraj, who is the son of Pakistan’s federal defence production minister.

According to Indian participants, the debate was presented as a serious international discussion, but the way invitations were handled suggests it was designed to fail. The aim, they claim, was to later project India as unwilling to engage, allowing Pakistan to claim a symbolic win.

Indian speakers point to confusing and delayed invitations

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said she received an invitation in June and accepted it. After that, she heard nothing for nearly five months. Then, just two days before the scheduled debate, another invitation was sent. By then, it was impossible for her to attend due to parliamentary commitments.

Pakistan is crying again over an Oxford Union debate. This is for the record. Once again they have proved to be liars. Expecting any better from them was not even on my list https://t.co/cOkaOylaWS

— Priyanka Chaturvedi (@priyankac19) November 28, 2025

Advocate-author J Sai Deepak shared a similar account. He said he had been confirmed months in advance, along with former Army chief General MM Naravane (Retd) and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. All confirmations were made well ahead of time.

Deepak said that before he could suggest alternatives, the Union informed him that Suhel Seth and Priyanka Chaturvedi had been contacted and confirmed. Later, however, he was told both had cancelled due to short notice.

Despite this, the Pakistan High Commission publicly claimed that all Indian speakers had pulled out.

Confusion on the day of the debate

On November 27, just hours before the debate dinner, Deepak received a call from an Oxford Union organiser saying Pakistani speakers, including Hina Rabbani Khar and General Zubair Hayat, had not arrived in London.

1. Trust the Pakistanis to make a pigsty even out of the @OxfordUnion. And as always, they are genetically incapable of being truthful. So here's the complete story of how this so-called debate played out. https://t.co/I74r18vZR6

— Sai Deepak J (@jsaideepak) November 28, 2025

Deepak had already travelled to the UK after rescheduling court hearings. Due to the poor handling of the event, he refused to go to Oxford.

Later that evening, Moosa Harraj personally called Deepak to apologise. Harraj reportedly admitted he had known since 10 am that Pakistani speakers would not arrive but did not inform the Indian side for several hours. By that time, Pakistan had already claimed India had “walked out”.

Deepak later found out that the Pakistani delegation had, in fact, reached Oxford.

Indian participants believe the debate was never intended to happen. They argue that had it taken place, Pakistan would have struggled to defend its position, while Indian speakers were prepared with evidence of decades-long terror sponsorship and recent attacks, including links to the Pahalgam incident.

They compare the episode to past situations where Pakistan declared victory despite setbacks, such as after Operation Sindoor.

The ambulances belonged to a volunteer group that provides urgent medical help within the local community.

The damaged vehicles were part of Hatzola Northwest, a well-known volunteer organisation that offers fast emergency response. The group plays an important role in helping people during medical emergencies, often arriving before regular ambulance services.

'ANTISEMITIC ARSON' attack — Hatzolah volunteer Jewish emergency service has SEVERAL ambulances set ABLAZE pic.twitter.com/6YzMLOfvMZ

— RT (@RT_com) March 23, 2026

The fire caused serious damage to all four vehicles. According to the London Fire Brigade, gas cylinders inside the ambulances exploded during the blaze. This led to windows breaking in a nearby block of flats.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. However, nearby residents were evacuated as a safety step while firefighters worked to control the fire. Early signs suggest it could be linked to hate crime, but officials say all possibilities are being examined.

This incident comes at a time when concerns about antisemitic acts are rising in the UK. Reports of such incidents have increased sharply since the start of the Israel-Hamas War.

Data from the Community Security Trust shows a large rise in reported cases in recent years. Many members of the Jewish community say they feel more unsafe than before.

Golders Green has a large Jewish population, and the attack has caused fear and anger among residents.

New regulations come into force Monday in Britain banning daytime TV and online adverts for so-called junk foods, in what the government calls a "world-leading action" to tackle childhood obesity.

The ban -- targeting ads for products high in fat, salt or sugar -- is expected to remove up to 7.2 billion calories from children's diets each year, according to the health ministry.

Impacting ads airing before the 9:00pm watershed and anytime online, it will reduce the number of children living with obesity by 20,000 and deliver around £2 billion ($2.7 bln) in health benefits, the ministry added.

The implementation of the measure -- first announced in December 2024 -- follows other recent steps, including an extended sugar tax on pre-packaged items like milkshakes, ready-to-go coffees and sweetened yoghurt drinks.

Local authorities have also been given the power to stop fast food shops setting up outside schools.

Impact of ads on children's diet

The government argues evidence shows advertising influences what and when children eat, shaping preferences from a young age and increasing the risk of obesity and related illnesses.

It notes 22 percent of children starting primary schooling in England -- typically aged around five -- are overweight or obese, rising to more than a third by the time they progress to secondary schools aged 11.

Tooth decay is the leading cause of UK hospital admissions for young children, typically aged five to nine, according to officials.

"By restricting adverts for junk food before 9pm and banning paid adverts online, we can remove excessive exposure to unhealthy foods," health minister Ashley Dalton said in a statement.

He added the move was part of a strategy to make the state-funded National Health Service (NHS) focus on preventing as well as treating sickness, "so people can lead healthier lives".

Katharine Jenner, executive director of the Obesity Health Alliance, said it was "a welcome and long-awaited step towards better protecting children from unhealthy food and drink advertising that can harm their health and wellbeing".

The charity Diabetes UK also welcomed the ads ban, with its chief executive, Colette Marshall, noting that type 2 diabetes is on the rise in young people.

"Obesity is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, and the condition can lead to more severe consequences in young people -- leaving them at risk of serious complications like kidney failure and heart disease," she added.

(Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by Asianet Newsable English staff and is published from a syndicated feed)

Sarah Sackman, the MP for Finchley and Golders Green, said she would meet the Home Secretary soon to discuss the incident. She confirmed that the suspect had been detained and thanked Shomrim for its quick action. She added that attacks on British Jews are attacks on Britain itself.

Earlier this year, Golders Green was shaken by another serious incident involving the Jewish community. In March, four Hatzola ambulances were deliberately set on fire, triggering several explosions caused by gas canisters inside the vehicles.

Police arrested three suspects in connection with the arson on April 1. They included two British men aged 20 and 19, and a 17-year-old boy with dual British and Pakistani nationality. They were all booked for arson. Before these arrests two were arrested and released on bail. Counter Terrorism Police said they were treating the case as an antisemitic hate crime.

A woman from Whitstable in Kent (United Kingdom) had planned her wedding like a dream. Danielle Crowther, 31, wanted everything to be perfect on her special day. The ceremony went smoothly, and she married her partner, Lewis, at the Canterbury Register Office. But what followed at the reception was something no one expected. Instead of ending the night in celebration, Danielle ended up in the back of an ambulance, still wearing her wedding dress, according to a report by Mirror.

What happened at the reception

The reception had around 40 guests and was meant to be a joyful gathering. Danielle said she was dancing and enjoying herself during the evening.

However, things changed in the final part of the night.

She recalled that she went to sit next to her young son, but suddenly became unwell. She said it was the 'drunkest' she had ever been in her life.

According to Danielle, she had been given several drinks by guests throughout the evening. She also admitted to mixing different types of alcohol.

Drinks on an empty stomach caused trouble

Danielle believes the main reason for the incident was that she had not eaten properly the whole day. She said she skipped meals while getting ready because of wedding stress. She also mentioned that she suffers from anxiety, which made it hard for her to eat.

Drinking alcohol on an empty stomach made the effect much stronger. This caused her to lose control and eventually pass out.

She advised other brides to make sure they eat during the day and avoid drinking too much without food.

Ambulance called as bride becomes unresponsive

As Danielle became unresponsive, her husband Lewis called emergency services.

Paramedics arrived at the venue and attended to her. A video that later went viral shows a paramedic carrying her out of the reception.

She was taken home in the ambulance. Paramedics said she did not need hospital care, as the issue was due to alcohol.

Danielle later said she does not remember anything about being taken away or the ambulance ride.

Bride wakes up with no memory

The next morning, Danielle woke up feeling unwell, with her head spinning. She had no memory of what had happened the previous night.

It was only after seeing the viral video that she realised the full story.

The clip quickly spread online and gained nearly 50,000 views within hours.

Reaction to the viral moment

Danielle admitted she felt embarrassed after seeing the video.

“Oh my God, how bloody embarrassing,” she said.

However, she also chose to look at the situation in a positive way. She said it did not ruin her wedding and even made the day more memorable.

Her husband also found the situation funny, though he had also been drinking that night.

A wedding to remember

Danielle had spent six months planning her wedding. She said everything during the ceremony went perfectly. She and Lewis had known each other for years before getting married.

Even though the reception did not go as planned, Danielle now sees it as a unique story from her big day.

She said that while it was not what she expected, it is something she will never forget.

A new Bloomberg documentary has revealed that the British intelligence agency GCHQ gave Canada a top-secret dossier containing intercepted conversations suggesting India’s involvement in plots to kill Khalistan separatists in Western countries. The video documentary, 'Inside the Deaths That Rocked India's Relations With the West', says GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters), which specialises in signals intelligence, intercepted communications between individuals allegedly working on behalf of the Indian government.

These conversations reportedly discussed three potential ‘targets’, Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada, Avtar Singh Khanda in Britain and Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in the United States.

Bloomberg has a story on the Nijjar, Pannun assassination plots with some fresh detailsOnce, Nijjar was killed the initial Canadian assessment was that it was gang related until Moninder Singh (who has links to the ISYF terrorist group) started blaming India pic.twitter.com/6eNlPn2Fw2

— Journalist V (@OnTheNewsBeat) November 6, 2025

1. Bloomberg reports that communications intercepted by the UK implicate the Indian government in plots to assassinate Sikhs in Canada and elsewhere. https://t.co/tXDyvwaNUv pic.twitter.com/D8jMMrnOUe

— Stewart Bell (@StewGlobal) November 6, 2025

Intercepted conversations pointed to 3 targets

According to the documentary, GCHQ analysts picked up conversations where unidentified individuals talked about plans to 'eliminate' the three men. Later, another communication reportedly mentioned that Nijjar had been 'successfully eliminated'.

The feature, titled 'Finish Him, Brother,' claims that the intercepted communications did not directly name any assassins or Indian officials, but the implications were clear to analysts. The document, as per Bloomberg, suggested 'a strong chance' that Nijjar was killed in an operation directed by the Indian state.

Canada received sensitive file from UK

The report says that in late July 2023, while Canada was re-examining Nijjar's killing, the UK, a fellow member of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, told Ottawa it had 'some relevant information' that was 'extremely sensitive'.

British officials insisted the material be hand-delivered, kept off electronic systems, and viewed only by a few Canadian officials pre-approved by London. The file contained a summary of GCHQ's intercepted conversations about Nijjar, Khanda and Pannun.

How Trudeau's team handled the warning

According to Bloomberg, Jody Thomas, then Canada’s national security and intelligence adviser, briefed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and a select group of officials in a secure conference room designed to prevent any eavesdropping.

A few days later, Canadian intelligence received another wiretap from GCHQ, capturing a conversation again referring to how Nijjar had been 'successfully eliminated', the report claims.

India's dismissal of allegations as absurd

India has strongly rejected these claims, calling them 'absurd and politically motivated.' New Delhi maintains that it had no role in any such incidents and has accused Canada and other Western nations of allowing Khalistan extremists to operate freely and threaten Indian diplomats.

The issue remains one of the most serious diplomatic challenges between India and several Western nations, including Canada, the UK, and the US. It has also put pressure on ongoing intelligence-sharing arrangements between these allies.

Labour Party and PM Keir Starmer are facing growing criticism after refusing to support a Private Members' Bill that seeks to ban first-cousin marriage in the UK. The move has sparked strong reactions from opposition MPs, health experts and public, with many accusing the UK Government of avoiding a sensitive issue for political reasons. The controversy has also triggered heated debate online, where critics claim Labour is ignoring serious health and social concerns linked to the practice.

Keir Starmer is so insane up he blocked a ban on cousin marriageYou read that rightThe UK Government is promoting cousin fucking pic.twitter.com/TS5ZkLN3xS

— Basil the Great (@BasilTheGreat) January 10, 2026

SHOCKING! The bill aims to make it illegal for first cousins to marry in England and Wales, according to GB News.

Holden first brought the proposal to Parliament as a Ten Minute Rule Bill in December 2024. The bill was scheduled for a second reading in January last year, but it did not go ahead. Since then, it has repeatedly failed to return to the House of Commons for debate.

On January 9, Parliament was not sitting, meaning no progress was made. As a result, the bill has now been stalled for over 390 days.

Why the bill is unlikely to move forward

Private Members' Bills can only be debated on Fridays, and only a small number ever become law. Holden’s bill is low on the list, making it very unlikely to be debated unless the Government steps in.

Labour could bring the bill forward by giving it time in Parliament or by adopting it as Government business. However, ministers have refused to do so, saying that marriage laws are still 'under review'.

UK PM Keir Starmer previously rejected calls to instruct Labour MPs to support the bill or allow it more time for debate.

Strong reaction from Conservative MPs

Richard Holden has accused Labour of quietly supporting cousin marriage by refusing to act. Speaking to GB News, he said Labour MPs were “turning a blind eye” to an issue with serious health risks. He argued that the practice is linked to genetic disorders, closed communities, and harm to vulnerable people.

He said Labour should be honest if it supports cousin marriage instead of delaying the bill.

Holden also warned that if the bill does not progress before the next King’s Speech, it will fall completely and must be reintroduced from scratch.

Not all Labour MPs agree with the party’s position. Neil Coyle, a Labour MP, has openly supported a ban. He said high levels of infant mortality and birth defects alone justify banning first-cousin marriage.

However, another Labour MP, Iqbal Mohamed, has spoken against a ban. He argued that cousin marriage remains common in some communities because it helps strengthen family ties and provides financial security.

His comments drew criticism from many online users and opposition politicians.

Health concerns raised by experts

Health experts have repeatedly warned about the risks linked to cousin marriage.

Research shows that children born to first cousins are twice as likely to suffer from birth defects. Some studies suggest there is up to a one-in-four chance of developing certain genetic disorders.

A University of Bradford study also found that children of cousin marriages are more likely to face speech and language problems and are less likely to reach early development milestones, per GB News.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting criticised NHS guidance that once suggested cousin marriage could have benefits. He said the advice should never have been published and admitted the risks were well known.

However, he stopped short of supporting a legal ban.

Public anger and online backlash

The issue has triggered strong reactions on social media. Many users accused Labour of blocking the ban to avoid upsetting parts of its voter base. Some claimed the Government was ignoring science and public health.

Posts widely shared online accused the Prime Minister of 'promoting' cousin marriage by refusing to act. Others warned that the practice causes harm that builds over generations.

Some comments were extreme and controversial, drawing criticism for their tone. However, they highlighted the depth of public anger around the issue.

A YouGov poll found strong public support for banning cousin marriage, per GB News. Around 77 per cent of white and Indian Britons support a ban. Among black Britons, support rises to 82 per cent.

Support is lower among Pakistani and Bangladeshi Britons, where 39 per cent want it to remain legal, while 47 per cent support a ban. Cousin marriage remains rare in the UK overall, but rates are higher in certain communities. In inner-city Bradford, 43 per cent of British Pakistanis were in cousin marriages in 2023.

Political pressure on Labour

Labour received strong support from Pakistani and Bangladeshi voters in the 2024 General Election. However, its stance on Palestine and other cultural issues has already led to losses in some seats.

Independent pro-Gaza candidates won four former Labour seats, and several Labour MPs now hold marginal constituencies. Critics say Labour's handling of the cousin marriage debate could increase pressure in areas like Bradford, Birmingham, London and Luton.

Trump said at the White House dinner. "Charles agrees with me even more than I do -- we're never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon."

Trump has repeatedly lambasted British Prime Minister Keir Starmer over his opposition to the Iran war, and there is no indication that King Charles has shown support for the US leader's stance.

Nevertheless, both leaders strongly praised the "special relationship" between Britain and Washington, putting aside however briefly the transatlantic tensions.

In his toast, Charles said he was "here to renew an indispensable alliance which has long been a cornerstone of prosperity and security."

Yet Charles pointedly mentioned the importance of international alliances like NATO that Trump has repeatedly disparaged -- and called for continued support for Ukraine as it battles Russia's invasion.

"Together, we can meet the challenges of an increasingly complex and contested world," he added.

Star guests

The menu for the lavish dinner included a garden vegetable veloute, spring herbed ravioli and Dover sole meuniere, followed by a White House honey and vanilla bean cremeux.

Invited guests included Apple boss Tim Cook, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Nvidia's Jensen Huang, and two-time Masters-winning golfer Rory McIlroy, who was born in Northern Ireland.

The king and the president also struck a light-hearted tone, with Charles joking about Trump's recent comments that allies would be speaking German if not for US support in World War II.

"Dare I say that, if it wasn't for us, you'd be speaking French," Charles quipped, referring to the contest between the colonial powers of Britain and France before US independence 250 years ago.

Trump meanwhile hailed Charles's "fantastic" speech to Congress, adding: "He got the Democrats to stand -- I've never been able to do that."

The king received a warm reception from lawmakers in Congress as he urged the United States on Tuesday to stand firm with its Western allies, and broached topics like the environment that Trump often scorns.

Charles stressed that "unyielding resolve" was needed to secure a "just and lasting peace" in Ukraine, which has been fighting a full-scale invasion by Russia since 2022.

‘No closer friends’

In just the second speech to Congress by a British monarch following his mother Elizabeth II in 1991, Charles also pointed to shared democratic traditions that opponents have accused Trump of undermining.

He noted that the British Magna Carta had been cited in more than 160 US Supreme Court cases, highlighting -- to rapt applause from the opposition Democrats -- the principle that executive power is subject to checks and balances.

Trump earlier hailed Britain as America's closest ally as he welcomed Charles and Queen Camilla to the White House with pomp, ceremony, a 21-gun salute and a flypast.

"In the centuries since we won our independence, Americans have had no closer friends than the British," Trump said.

The visit comes at a delicate moment, with Trump criticizing Britain over its stance on Iran and other policies.

Despite the tensions, the US president struck a jovial tone, joking about his Scottish-born mother having "a crush on Charles" and making a jibe about the British weather.

Security has been tight during the visit following an alleged assassination attempt against Trump at a weekend Washington media gala.

"Such acts of violence will never succeed," Charles said.

The royals will visit New York on Wednesday, touring the 9/11 memorial, before departing Thursday for Bermuda.

(Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by Asianet Newsable English staff and is published from a syndicated feed.)

A father and his little daughter have become internet stars after videos of their bike rides touched hearts around the world. Gareth Williams, 33, from Blaenau Gwent in Wales, began taking his daughter Indie on mountain bike rides after noticing how much she loved riding around the house on her own small bike.

He bought a special child seat and handlebars that could be fitted to his mountain bike. It turned out to be one of the best decisions he ever made.

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Daddy Daughter Rides (@daddydaughterrides)

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Daddy Daughter Rides (@daddydaughterrides)

Indie fell in love with biking straight away

Gareth said Indie, who is nearly two, enjoyed the rides from the very first moment. "For me, it's the best thing when she asks, 'Can we go and ride the bike?'" he told BBC.

He added that once she gets on, she never wants to get off.

The pair often explore the mountains and woodlands just minutes from their home. Their outdoor trips have quickly become a favourite family activity.

Social media could not get enough

What started as a video for friends and family soon became something much bigger. Gareth filmed a 20-minute ride through local woodland and shared it privately. After receiving a wonderful response, he decided to post it online.

The videos quickly took off. Their Instagram page, called 'daddydaughterrides', has attracted more than 10,000 followers in just one week.

Together, their clips have now been watched more than three million times.

The outdoors is Indie's happy place

Gareth says his daughter loves everything about being outside. She enjoys spotting animals, exploring nature and taking in the beautiful Welsh countryside.

One of her favourite things is looking for cows.

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Daddy Daughter Rides (@daddydaughterrides)

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Daddy Daughter Rides (@daddydaughterrides)

Gareth recalled how a group of Highland cattle once wandered close to their home, even entering their garden. Indie found the whole thing hilarious.

Ever since then, she often asks during rides if they can "see the cows".

A natural in front of the camera

Although Indie seems completely comfortable in the videos, Gareth says she is actually quite shy.

He believes she forgets the camera is even there because it is just the two of them enjoying their time together. That is exactly what people love most. Viewers are seeing a happy little girl simply being herself.

Fans adore her Welsh accent

While many people enjoy the stunning scenery and sweet father-daughter bond, one detail has especially captured hearts.

Indie's adorable Welsh accent has become a huge hit online. Gareth admitted he had never really noticed it himself.

"Loads of people love that," he said with a laugh. "We hear it every day, so we don't notice it."

But viewers certainly have.

A positive corner of the internet

Gareth says the response has been overwhelming but incredibly kind. People regularly comment that the videos brighten their day and make them smile.

Some have even called them the most uplifting thing they have seen online.

For Gareth, sharing these special moments with Indie has been a wonderful surprise
