J&K: Security forces recover AK rifles, ammo in Kupwara anti-terror operation

Kupwara (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], February 10 (ANI): Security forces on Monday conducted an operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district and recovered two AK series Rifles, ammunition and other war-like stores.

The joint operation was carried out by the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police at Badi Mohalla, Amrui, Kupwara.

Taking to social media post on X, Chinar Corps wrote, "OP GREEN HOUSE, Kupwara. On 10 Feb 2025, based on specific intelligence inputs, a Joint Search Operation was launched by #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice at Badi Mohalla, Amrui, Kupwara. The Operation Green House is currently in progress.

Meanwhile, Indian Army personnel conducted patrolling operations in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir's (J-K) Doda district amid a thick blanket of snow and temperatures dropping below -5 degrees Celsius to ensure the region's security, officials said on Monday.

The region has witnessed multiple terrorist attacks in the past. The Army's vigilant presence has been instrumental in monitoring and preventing terrorist activities, ensuring the safety of the local population.

In response to past militant attacks, security forces have intensified surveillance, adopting a proactive approach to locate and neutralize foreign terrorists. The Army's counter-terrorism operations in Doda have yielded positive results, further reinforcing security in the region. On Sunday, the Doda Police conducted a mock drill to enhance emergency preparedness and security.

Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Doda Shakeel Raheem Bhatt said that the district was divided into three zones to assess police preparedness in handling emergencies. "We had divided Doda into three zones to conduct mock drills and check our preparedness to deal with emergencies," Bhatt told ANI.

He expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the public, shopkeepers and tourists, assuring them that there was no need to panic. "We are very glad that shopkeepers, the public, and tourists cooperated with us. People do not need to panic about the situations. The police are here for them and with them. If any discrepancies arise, we will make sure to help the public," he added.

Recently, an ex-serviceman was shot dead by terrorists in the Behibagh area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district. His wife and niece were also injured in the attack. (ANI)\

Amid an uproar over the deportation of Indian nationals who were allegedly illegally living in the US, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi said according to a report there are still 6,75,000 Indian immigrants in the United States and 18,000 people are on the final list.

"According to the Pew Research 2022 report, there are still 6,75,000 undocumented Indian immigrants in the USA, and 18,000 people are still on the final list. When all these people return, it will impact remittances as well. The government must also address what it will do for them," Owaisi told media. "BJP leaders keep saying that Modi ji has elevated India's name and made it a superpower, but what is happening now? Why are they being brought back in such a disrespectful manner?" he questioned further.

"This reflects the level of unemployment among the youth in India. 45 per cent of the youth are unemployed. This is why these people are lured by agents, endure hardships, and cross 8-10 countries to reach their destination. The government will have to answer why there is so much unemployment," Asaduddin Owaisi said.

Meanwhile, both the houses faced adjournment on Thursday after the Opposition held a protest demanding a discussion on the deportation of Indian nationals who were allegedly illegally living in the US.

Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal criticised the outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi after the AAP leader was seen celebrating her victory from the Kalkaji constituency in the assembly elections. Swati Maliwal shared a video of Atishi dancing and celebrating with supporters following her victory in the Kalkaji Assembly seat and termed it a "shameless display," in light of AAP's crushing defeat in the elections.

BJP's Parvesh Verma emerged as a giant-killer in the assembly election with a decisive win of over 4,000 votes over former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat.

Following the results on Saturday, Maliwal attacked AAP for losing Delhi assembly elections, stating that god "punishes" those who commit crimes against women. Maliwal's remarks came as a veiled reference to the assault case, wherein she alleged AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal's aide, Bibhav Kumar of 'assaulting' her at the then CM's residence.

It is, however, pertinent to note that despite being a sharp critic of AAP and Kejriwal since the episode, she has still not left the party. "If we see the history - if something wrong happens to any woman, god has punished those who commit that," Maliwal told ANI.

Launching a blistering attack on AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, Maliwal stated that even Ravan's pride was shattered, and "he is only Kejriwal." The BJP won a historic mandate in Delhi polls on Saturday, returning to power in the national capital after 27 years by ousting AAP.

The verdict came months after the BJP-led coalition swept Maharashtra polls and the party won Haryana, consolidating its domination of national politics. The Congress, which was hoping for its revival in the national capital, again failed to win any seat. The party, which ruled Delhi for 15 years from 1998, registered a hat-trick zero tally in assembly polls.

SC protects Discovery officials after threats over 'Cult of fear' OTT documentary on Asaram Bapu

The Supreme Court on Thursday granted interim protection to the officials of Discovery Communications India who are allegedly facing threats after the release of the documentary series "Cult of Fear: Asaram Bapu".

A bench of Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justices PV Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan ordered police authorities of at least seven states to ensure the protection of officials and properties of the broadcasting channel. The order of the top court came on a petition filed by Discovery Communications India and its senior staff based in different states across India. The channel which released the documentary on self-styled godman Asaram Baapu said several hate comments against Discovery and persons associated with it were received on the social media accounts of the Broadcasters.

The counsel of the broadcasting channel told the bench that it has become increasingly difficult for the petitioners to travel freely across the country. The bench observed that it may not be possible for the petitioners to approach different High Courts where their staff may be posted and issued notice to the Central government and the authorities in Karnataka, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Delhi, Haryana, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

"Issue notice returnable in the week commencing 3rd March 2025. In the meanwhile, we request the police authorities to ensure that the petitioner gets to use the office and no threats by way of physical harm are extended to the petitioners," order the bench.

The petitioners claimed that the documentary on Asaram Bapu was made based on public records, court orders and witness testimonies. After the documentary was released on the OTT platform Discovery +, the petitioners claimed to have received threats.

The petition stated, "The series sheds light on the life of Asaram Bapu, a self-proclaimed spiritual leader currently serving a life sentence for crimes including rape and murder since 2018. It presents factual insights based on public records, witness testimonials and judicial records." SC grants interim bail to Asaram Bapu on medical grounds in 2013 rape case until March 31

The protection was being sought in light of threats and criminal intimidation from groups claiming to be supporters/ fans/followers/devotees of Asaram. The plea said that on January 30, a mob gathered outside their Mumbai office, creating a ruckus, though the police dispersed the crowd, no action was taken against the perpetrators.

Asaram, serving life imprisonment in rape cases, is currently on bail on medical grounds.

The Chhattisgarh Board of Open School, Raipur has declared CGSOS 10th result 2021 today. State Education Minister Premsai Singh Tekam announced CG open school result 2021 in a press conference.

Students can now check their CGSOS Class 10 result on the official sites- sos.cg.nic.in and cgsos.co.in.

This year, the Board exams were conducted online and students appeared for the exam from home. As many as 90,000 students have registered for CGSOS Class 10 exam this time.

Here are steps for checking your marks on the website of CGSOS:

· Visit the official website - sos.cg.nic.in

· Click the link which reads "Open School High School Result 2021"

· You will be taken to the CGSOS's website - click on CGSOS Annual Exams Result

· In the login page you will have to key in your credentials like roll number and name

· Your CGSOS 10th result 2021 will appear on the screen

In order to pass these exams, students will have to score a minimum 33% marks in total. This means their overall pass percentage has to be a minimum 33%. Along with this, students must also score passing marks in both theory and practical exams for subjects that have practicals.

Last year the CGSOS class 10 2020 examination had recorded a pass percentage of 88.97%.

Recently, Chhattisgarh Open School Result 2021 was also announced for class 12 students. Like class 10 students, even class 12 students gave the exams from home due to Covid-19 and the result was released on the official site at the same time. This year, the pass percentage of the higher secondary school certificate main examination was 98.20% — 98.30% for female and 98.12% for male students.

Dudu (Rajasthan) [India], February 6 (ANI): Eight people were killed in an accident when the tyre of a bus travelling from Jaipur to Ajmer burst causing its driver to lose control of the vehicle, which collided with a car, police said.

Delhi: Bihar woman gives birth on train at Anand Vihar with RPF's help

New Delhi [India], February 7 (ANI): A woman from Bihar's Samastipur gave birth to a baby girl in a train coach at Anand Vihar Railway Station in Delhi with the help of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

RPF Sub-Inspector Naveen Kumari, who was on duty on Thursday at the time, swiftly responded to the situation, coordinating with a police constable and fellow passengers to help with the delivery before arranging for the mother and child to be transferred to a hospital for further care.

"I was on duty when I got the information. I called the ambulance. A lady from Bihar's Samastipur was having labour pain. With the help of a police constable and other women in the coach, we helped in the delivery and later we sent them to hospital," Kumari told ANI.

RPF inspector Shailendra Kumar said that both mother and child are doing well.

"We received the information from a train that goes to Saharsa from Anand Vihar, about the labour pain of the woman. The woman experienced intense labour pains while travelling on a 1Z RTC bus from Musheerabad Depot. She had boarded the bus at Aramghar, but the situation escalated as the bus reached Bahadurpura.

Delhi court denies bail to alleged drug syndicate kingpin Waseem Shaikh

New Delhi [India], February 11 (ANI): Delhi's Saket court has recently rejected the bail plea of Waseem Shaikh arrested for allegedly running a drug syndicate with his wife Rihana. It is alleged that Waseem purchased a smack from Salman and Kulsum at the rate of 12 to 15 lakh per kg.

Thereafter, he sold the same in small quantities in pouches of 0.5 to 0.75 grams at Rs. 700-800. He was arrested after the arrest of one person named, Hafiza who worked for him. Special judge (NDPS) Gaurav Gupta rejected the bail plea of Waseem Shaikh after considering the submissions by counsel for the accused and Delhi police. "About the overall facts and circumstances of the case, the previous conduct of the applicant, no grounds have been made for a grant of bail," Special Judge Gaurav Rao said in an order passed on February 4.

While rejecting the bail plea the court observed, "There is every possibility that the applicant might abscond, in case, he is granted bail."

"Further, the investigation cannot be scuttled by the conduct of the accused in absconding from the court. Investigating agency needs to be granted sufficient opportunity for carrying out proper investigation and to ascertain the role of the present applicant as well as the absconding suspects," the court emphasised.

The counsel for the accused had argued that he had been falsely implicated at the behest of one Sharafat Sheikh who is also alleged to run a drug syndicate. It was further argued that the allegations against the present applicant pertain only to conspiracy to commit an offence and that nothing incriminating has been recovered from him.

It was also argued that the investigating agency alleges 455 calls between the applicant and one Kulsum who is a known drug dealer, however, there is nothing to show that Kulsum had anything to do with the present case. While opposing the bail plea, an additional public prosecutor (APP) argued that the accused was the kingpin of the entire drug syndicate and that he was running the syndicate along with his wife Rihanna. It was further argued that the applicant never cooperated during the investigation and his anticipatory bail application was dismissed by this Court as well as by the Delhi High Court.

It was further argued that even after the dismissal of his anticipatory bail application, he never joined the investigation and was declared a proclaimed offender. (ANI)

Delhi HC bars unauthorized use of Ratan Tata's name, logo for events

New Delhi [India], February 7 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Friday ruled against the use of logos and images related to Ratan Tata and Tata Trusts, acknowledging that Tata is a well-known trademark and that the late Ratan Tata is a prominent figure deserving of name protection.

Justice Mini Pushkarna's bench, while hearing a lawsuit filed by the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Tata Sons Pvt Ltd issued an injunction against Rajat Srivastava, who had been planning to organize an award ceremony named the 'Ratan Tata Icon Award.'

According to the lawsuit, the defendants, despite being notified, chose to continue to advertise and publicize an unauthorized event and award, falsely claiming support by and association with the Tata Trusts and its former Chairman, late Ratan N Tata.

During the proceedings, the defendants agreed to cancel the awards event and refrain from using Ratan Tata's name. Taking note of this submission, the court also sought an undertaking from the defendants regarding compliance and scheduled a follow-up for February 12.

The plaintiffs, Tata, were represented by Senior Advocate Rajeev Nayar. The lawsuit was filed through the law firm Anand and Anand, with representation by Pravin Anand and Achuthan Sreekumar.

According to the suit, upon learning about the Defendants' unauthorized and misleading events scheduled for February 10, 2025, at the Constitutional Club of India and Maharashtra Sadan, New Delhi, the Plaintiffs sent a representative to verify the Defendants' claims.

When the representative inquired at Maharashtra Sadan, they were informed that no such event was known to them and that the posts using their institution's name were unauthorized and surprising.

Conversely, at the Constitutional Club of India, the representative was told that there was a booking under Defendant Rajat Srivastava's name, but the officials did not provide any additional details about the booking or event. (ANI)

SC seeks Centre, ECI reply on plea for lifetime ban on convicted politicians

New Delhi [India], February 10 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to file its response on the plea challenging the constitutional validity of Sections 8 and 9 of the Representation of the People Act (RP Act), 1951, which govern MP/MLA's disqualification due to convictions.

A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Manmohan asked the Centre to file its affidavit on the plea, failing which the court may proceed to decide the matter without a government response. Pakistan scraps 'govt job' quota for families of deceased civil servants after SC ruling

It also sought the assistance of Attorney General R Venkataramani on the plea seeking a permanent ban on those convicted of criminal offences from contesting elections to the Parliament and state assemblies.

The apex court also asked the Election Commission of India to submit its response. Section 8 of the RP Act disqualifies those persons convicted of certain listed offences from contesting elections from the date of their conviction and for six years from the date of their release from prison.

Section 9 of the RP Act disqualifies those persons dismissed from government service for corruption or disloyalty to the state, for five years after the date of dismissal. On the issue relating to the expeditious disposal of criminal cases against lawmakers, the bench said it would be inappropriate for a two-judge bench to reopen the issue, given that a three-judge bench had already delivered a judgment on November 9, 2023, on the issue.

The apex court directed that the issue be placed before the Chief Justice of India for consideration by a larger bench. The bench, however, said it will decide the issue concerning the disqualification of convicted politicians and sought responses from the Union of India and the Election Commission. The top court now listed the matter after three weeks.

The top court was hearing a PIL filed by advocate Ashwini Upadhyay seeking life-long disqualification of MPs, and MLAs, along with a demand for a one-year timeline for deciding criminal cases against government members.

During the hearing, senior advocate Vijay Hansaria, appearing as amicus curiae to assist the court, highlighted major roadblocks, including special MP/MLA courts handling other matters, excessive adjournments, and lack of strict procedural enforcement.

Senior advocate Vikas Singh, representing the petitioner, asked the bench to address the re-entry of convicted persons into politics. He submitted that allowing those convicted of heinous crimes to return after a short sentence defeats democratic integrity. The senior advocate further submitted, "Our democracy has matured over 75 years, yet 46-48 per cent of elected representatives have serious charges, including rape and murder. Parliament could not have intended such individuals to govern".

In a shocking crime, a 28-year-old woman and her boyfriend were arrested by the Malwani police on Sunday for allegedly murdering her husband. The accused, Puja Chavan, and her lover, Imran Mansuri (26), slit the throat of Rajesh Chavan inside their home while their two minor children were present. To cover up the crime, they propped up his body on a two-wheeler and drove for half a kilometre before dumping it. Later, they tried to mislead the police by filing a missing person complaint.

A few months ago, Mansuri moved to Mumbai but was struggling without a job or shelter. On Saturday night, Puja and Mansuri allegedly executed their plan. They murdered Rajesh, cleaned the bloodstains, and later placed his lifeless body between them on a two-wheeler. To avoid suspicion, they wrapped a shawl around him, pretending that Rajesh was unwell and being taken to a doctor. However, they panicked after riding for half a kilometre and decided to abandon the body, according to TOI report.

However, their plan soon fell apart. The police reviewed CCTV footage and found images of Puja and Mansuri riding with Rajesh’s body sandwiched between them. When questioned, they gave conflicting statements, raising further doubts. A police team, led by DCP Anand Bhoite and Senior Inspector Shailendra Nagarkar, inspected the couple’s house and found bloodstains, confirming their suspicions.

As a result, both Puja and Mansuri were arrested for murder. Meanwhile, their two children, who witnessed the horrific crime, have been left deeply traumatised.
