March 30 is celebrated as World Idli Day, a special day dedicated to one of India's most loved breakfast dishes. The day was first celebrated in 2015 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. What makes it even more interesting is the story of the man behind it - M Eniyavan. His journey is not just about food, but also about hard work, creativity and never giving up.

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Eniyavanidly (@eniyavanidly)

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Eniyavanidly (@eniyavanidly)

A simple meeting that changed everything

Eniyavan’s life took a turning point in an unexpected way. Years ago, when he was working as an auto-rickshaw driver, he once picked up a passenger carrying a large container of idli batter. Her name was Chandra, and she supplied idlis to local eateries. Watching her work gave him a new idea. He realised that the idli business could be started by anyone with simple resources.

This moment inspired him to try something new, according to an article published in Indian Express.

Also Read: Valmiki Became 'Sultan' To Escape Law, But After 21 Years On The Run, Police Finally Catch Up

From struggle to starting his own business

Eniyavan came to Chennai in 1997 at the age of 27, hoping to build a better life and escape poverty. He tried different small jobs before becoming an auto driver. Inspired by Chandra, he decided to start making and selling idlis from his home in RK Nagar.

However, his journey was not easy. On the very first day of his business, heavy rains flooded his house. The water entered his kitchen, damaged his idli steamer and spoiled the batter.

Despite this setback, he did not give up. He repaired his equipment over the next 20 days and restarted his work with determination.

Adding creativity to a simple dish

What made Eniyavan stand out was his creativity. He did not want idli to remain just a basic breakfast item. The idea of innovation started at home. When his daughter asked for pizza, he created an idli version of it by adding vegetables and spices to the batter. She loved it.

This encouraged him to try more ideas. He made chocolate idlis, pudina (mint) idlis and even beetroot idlis to make food more interesting for his children. He also experimented with ingredients. For example, he used tender coconut water instead of plain water while preparing the batter, making the idlis both tasty and healthy.

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Eniyavanidly (@eniyavanidly)

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Eniyavanidly (@eniyavanidly)

Taking idli to a bigger stage

His passion kept growing. In 2012, his catering company designed special heart-shaped idli plates on February 14. Later, he organised a unique event where he displayed 1,000 different varieties of idlis at Vivekananda Vidyalaya Junior College.

The event attracted around 14,000 people and received wide attention. Many were surprised to see how a simple idli could be turned into so many forms.

This event became a major step in promoting idli on a larger scale.

Also Read: 'It Was My First Accident': Jaipur Woman Says Sorry After Damaging Motorcycle in Viral Video (WATCH)

How world idli day was born

Impressed by his efforts, Rajamani, president of Samayal Sangam, declared March 30 as World Idli Day. The first celebration took place in 2015 in Chennai. Since then, the day has been observed every year, with people celebrating the taste and comfort of idlis.

Eniyavan believes idli is not just food, but an emotion. He says it is so soft and comforting that even babies who refuse milk can be fed mashed idlis.

A life changed by passion

Eniyavan’s life has changed completely over the years. From struggling to survive, he now travels, stays in good hotels and is invited to speak at colleges. He has also built a better life for his family and educated his children.

Looking ahead, he plans to expand his business further by opening hotels across Chennai. His goal is to make idli recognised not just as a breakfast item, but as a global food.

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Eniyavanidly (@eniyavanidly)

A story that inspires

Eniyavan’s journey shows how a simple idea and strong determination can change a person’s life. From a chance meeting to creating a global food day, his story continues to inspire many.

On World Idli Day, his journey reminds us that even the simplest things can achieve great success.

Sahil Reddy, son of Y.S. Sunil Reddy and nephew of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, married Vedika on February 7, 2026, at Chennai’s Leela Palace. Educated in Chennai and the US, he is Founder and CEO of Bubbl.cards.

Sahil Reddy has recently come into the public spotlight after his grand wedding in Chennai drew some of the biggest names from politics, cinema and business. While the event was a private family celebration, the guest list and viral photos quickly made people curious about who he is and why his wedding became such a widely discussed occasion.

Sahil Reddy is known as a young entrepreneur from a well-connected political family. He is the son of Y.S. Sunil Reddy, who is part of the extended family of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and YSR Congress Party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Because of these strong family links, Sahil belongs to a circle that has influence in both political and business spaces.

Sahil Reddy married Vedika in a grand ceremony held on February 7, 2026, at the luxury Leela Palace Hotel in Chennai. The wedding quickly became a major talking point on social media after pictures and videos from the event went viral.

The function was not just a family gathering. It turned into a high-profile event because several powerful personalities were present under one roof. Among those seen at the wedding were:

Actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay, chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)

YSR Congress Party chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin

Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin

Actor Suriya

Images of these leaders greeting each other warmly created a buzz online. Many people began asking whose wedding could bring together such a mix of political leaders, film stars and business figures.

To understand Sahil Reddy’s profile, it is important to look at his family roots.

His father, Y.S. Sunil Reddy, is the son of the late Y.S. George Reddy. George Reddy was the brother of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who remains a very influential political figure in the state’s history.

Because of this family line:

Sunil Reddy is a cousin of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy

Sahil Reddy is therefore Jagan Mohan Reddy’s nephew

Over the years, Sunil Reddy has been seen as a close associate and trusted person within the family network. He has reportedly played behind-the-scenes roles in business coordination and political support during important phases, including the period around Jagan’s Odarpu Yatra.

These links explain why senior political leaders attended the wedding and why the event received such wide attention.

Sahil Reddy represents a younger generation from this influential family. His education shows a mix of Indian and international exposure.

He studied in Chennai at Sishya School, which is known for its strong academic environment. Later, he moved to the United States for higher studies. He completed a BBA in Entrepreneurship from DePaul University.

This academic background helped shape his interest in business and technology. People who know his professional journey say he has been keen on building ventures connected to modern digital tools.

At present, Sahil Reddy is the Founder and CEO of Bubbl.cards, a Chennai-based tech venture. The company is part of the growing digital networking and business solutions space.

Before starting his own venture, he also worked as a social media manager in the commercial real estate sector. This experience gave him exposure to marketing, branding and digital communication.

Because of his work, Sahil is considered well-connected in business and social circles in Chennai and beyond. Many observers describe him as part of a new generation of entrepreneurs who combine family legacy with modern business ideas.

The scale of the guest list turned the wedding into more than a personal celebration. It became a meeting point of politics, cinema and business. Visuals showed:

Jagan Mohan Reddy greeting M.K. Stalin warmly

Vijay interacting with guests and posing for selfies with fans

Senior leaders and film personalities present at the same venue

Such rare public appearances together naturally sparked curiosity and discussion online. The event highlighted how social and family occasions in influential families often become major public moments.

Vijay’s presence and the Jana Nayagan row

Actor-politician Vijay attending the wedding added another layer of attention. His appearance came at a time when his film Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth, is facing a certification issue.

The film was originally planned for release on January 9 but is currently awaiting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Madras High Court had earlier set aside a direction related to certification and sent the matter back to a lower bench. So far:

Neither the producers, KVN Productions, nor the CBFC have issued public statements

The CBFC has filed a caveat in the Supreme Court

The film may go to a revising committee

The board has told the court that the film contains violence, religious elements and army-related scenes that require expert review. The project is widely believed to be Vijay’s last film before he formally steps into active politics ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Because of this ongoing row, Vijay’s public appearance at the wedding quickly went viral.

Sahil Reddy’s profile shows how family legacy, education and business ambition can come together. While he is not a politician, his close links to one of Andhra Pradesh’s most influential political families naturally place him in public attention.

At the same time, his work as a startup founder reflects a shift towards technology and entrepreneurship among younger members of established political families.

The Chennai wedding brought these layers together, family, politics, cinema and business, all in one setting.

A video from Mahabalipuram Beach in Tamil Nadu has sparked a huge conversation online about littering, public behaviour and India's growing waste problem. The video was posted by travel creator Joey Travels on Instagram. In the clip, he walks along the beach, showing sand covered with plastic bottles, wrappers, bags and other rubbish. Calling it "the most trashed beach" he has ever seen, Joey said the condition of the beach was deeply disappointing.

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Joey Travels (@homeless.digitalnomad)

A shocking sight on a famous beach

Mahabalipuram is one of India's best-known coastal destinations. It is famous for its historic temples, beautiful shoreline and large number of tourists.

But the viral video showed a very different side of the popular spot. Instead of clean golden sand and rolling waves, the beach was covered in waste. Plastic litter could be seen almost everywhere.

The clip quickly gained attention and was widely shared across social media platforms.

Civic sense under the spotlight

Joey said the issue was not about education. He pointed out that most people know littering is wrong. The real problem, he argued, is that many still choose to do it.

He also criticised the mindset that cleaning public places is only the government's responsibility. According to him, while proper waste management is important, individuals must also take responsibility for their actions.

Comparing regions across India

The travel creator made it clear that not every part of India faces the same problem. He praised several regions for being much cleaner, especially southwest India.

He specifically mentioned Ladakh, Sikkim and parts of the Northeast as places where public spaces are generally better maintained.

Many viewers agreed with his observations.

Internet largely supports the criticism

Social media users strongly backed Joey's comments. One popular response said civic sense should be taught as a school subject in India.

Others argued that anyone offended by the criticism was missing the real issue. Several users said the problem was not only littering but also the lack of proper waste collection and disposal systems.

Many expressed hope that younger generations would develop better habits.

The discussion goes far beyond one beach. Waste management is one of the world's biggest environmental challenges, even though it often receives less attention than other climate issues.

Poor waste handling damages land, pollutes water and harms wildlife. It also affects tourism, public health and local economies.

A global problem with serious consequences

Around the world, more than 2 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste are generated every year.

Experts, quoted by International Finance Corporation - a member of the World Bank Group, expect this number to rise by about 70 per cent by 2050.

Most of that increase will happen in developing countries, where waste systems are often under pressure. Rapid urban growth, industrial expansion and rising consumption are making the problem worse.

The climate connection

Waste is also a major climate issue. It accounts for around 20 per cent of human-related methane emissions globally.

Methane is far more powerful than carbon dioxide over the short term.

If waste is not managed properly, it becomes much harder to tackle climate change and meet international environmental goals.

A lesson from Mahabalipuram

The viral video has become more than just another social media moment. It has started an important conversation about personal responsibility, government action and the need for cleaner public spaces.

A beautiful beach should not become a dumping ground. The message is simple: keeping places clean is everyone's job.

As many users pointed out, change starts with small daily actions.

Throwing rubbish in a bin may seem like a tiny step, but millions of such steps can transform a country. Mahabalipuram's viral moment may be uncomfortable, but it is a reminder that honest criticism can often lead to positive change.

A disturbing case of alleged sexual assault has come to light in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) district, sending shockwaves across the state. According to police sources, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly subjected to sexual abuse over a period of more than four years. The matter surfaced recently, following which the Srirangam police registered a case and began an investigation.

Police officials have confirmed that three accused have been arrested so far in connection with the case. The investigation is still underway, and officials have said that further action will be taken based on evidence and statements collected during the probe.

Police action and investigation underway

Sources in the Srirangam police said the case is being treated with seriousness due to the long duration of the alleged abuse. Statements are being recorded and relevant medical and legal procedures are being followed. The police have not yet confirmed the total number of accused involved, stating that the investigation is at a sensitive stage.

Officials have also said that they are examining whether there was any delay in reporting the crime and whether any individual or institution failed to act despite having prior knowledge of the alleged abuse.

BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan attacks DMK government

The case has triggered a sharp political reaction. BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan strongly criticised the ruling DMK government over the incident. Referring to media reports, she alleged that a 14-year-old girl was repeatedly gang-raped by as many as 15 individuals.

Srinivasan further claimed that the girl later gave birth to a child as a result of the alleged sexual abuse. She described the incident as 'deeply shocking and horrifying' and said it exposed serious failures in governance and law enforcement in Tamil Nadu.

— Vanathi Srinivasan (@VanathiBJP) January 12, 2026

Allegations of political shielding

In a post on social media platform X, the BJP leader accused the DMK government of shielding the accused for years. She alleged that despite the gravity of the crime, those responsible were protected because of political connections.

Srinivasan claimed that one of the accused named in media reports was a local DMK functionary. She said the incident symbolised what she described as an 'administrative failure and moral collapse' under the current government.

Law and order concerns raised

Linking the case to wider law and order issues, Srinivasan alleged that Tamil Nadu was witnessing a breakdown in public safety. She claimed that schoolchildren were being exposed to drugs and that girls were increasingly becoming victims of sexual crimes.

She also questioned Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s repeated portrayal of himself as a guardian figure for children. Srinivasan asked whether such incidents reflected the government’s promise to keep women and children safe.

Strongly worded social media post

In her post, Srinivasan used strong language to criticise the DMK government, accusing it of failing Tamil women. She alleged that predators were being protected within the ruling party and said the government should be ashamed of celebrating women-centric events while such crimes continued.

She concluded by stating that the people of Tamil Nadu would not forget or forgive what she described as a women-hostile regime.

A bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, Justice K. Vinod Chandran and Justice N.V. Anjaria refused to entertain Tamil Nadu’s plea against Karnataka’s plan to construct the Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir along the Cauvery Rive, according to Live Law. The court said the matter was 'premature' because only the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared and full approval from expert bodies has yet to be given.

Why did the court call the plea 'premature'?

The court pointed out that the order from the Central Water Commission (CWC) was merely permitting the preparation of the DPR, not approving the reservoir outright.

It noted that both the CWMA and CWRC must give their opinion before any final approval.

In its August 25, 2023 order, the SC had already said it did not possess the technical expertise to decide such matters, and that expert bodies should handle them, the Live Law report added.

What are Tamil Nadu's concerns?

Tamil Nadu argued that Karnataka's project could adversely affect its share of Cauvery water, especially since farmers in the state depend heavily on the flows.

It claimed the reservoir is being built at a higher altitude than where Tamil Nadu receives water (at Biligundlu measuring station), which might affect the downstream release.

Karnataka stand on the matter

Karnataka's side, as represented in court, argued that the state is already bound by earlier orders to release 177.25 TMC of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

Therefore, Karnataka claimed the reservoir project is legitimate and that Tamil Nadu's plea was 'misconceived' at this stage.

SC ruling's significance for water sharing and future steps?

The ruling means that until the DPR is finalised and expert bodies approve the project, the court will not intervene. The SC also reiterated that Karnataka remains bound to comply with previous water-release orders, or else risk being found in contempt of court.

If the DPR is approved in future, Tamil Nadu has the right to challenge it legally.

In short, the Supreme Court did not reject Tamil Nadu's concerns outright, rather, it said it is not the right stage for the judiciary to step in. The matter remains in the domain of specialist agencies and the water sharing dispute continues. The decision reminds both states that expert review and procedure must be followed before a final outcome is reached.

If correct, TN may witness its biggest political shake-up.

Tamil Nadu could be heading towards one of its biggest political changes in decades. An Axis My India exit poll has predicted a stunning debut for actor-turned-politician Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The survey suggests TVK could win between 98 and 120 seats in the 234-member Assembly. That would put the party very close to the majority mark of 118 seats. If the prediction proves correct, TVK could become the state's biggest political story overnight.

Close fight with DMK

The ruling DMK-led alliance is projected to win between 92 and 110 seats. The AIADMK-led alliance is estimated at just 22 to 32 seats.

This means Tamil Nadu could see a three-cornered contest, with TVK emerging as a powerful new player.

TVK is also expected to secure around 35 per cent of the vote. That is almost equal to the DMK-led alliance. The AIADMK-BJP alliance is projected to get around 23 per cent.

Why this is historic

Axis My India chairman Pradeep Gupta compared Vijay's rise to that of legendary leaders MG Ramachandran in Tamil Nadu and NT Rama Rao in Andhra Pradesh.

That is a huge comparison.

Both MGR and NTR changed politics in their states soon after entering public life. Vijay now appears to be following a similar path.

For a party fighting its first election, these numbers are extraordinary.

Youth voters drive TVK's rise

One of the biggest reasons behind TVK's strong performance appears to be young voters.

According to the exit poll:

68 per cent of first-time voters aged 18 to 19 backed TVK

59 per cent of voters aged 20 to 29 supported the party

45 per cent of those aged 30 to 39 also favoured Vijay

This shows TVK has become the top choice among younger voters, especially students, unemployed youth and urban residents.

The demand for change

Many voters seem to want a fresh alternative. Around 35 per cent of all voters said "change" was the main reason behind their choice.

Among TVK supporters, that number rises sharply to 77 per cent.

Vijay's personal popularity has also played a major role. Many voters said they supported the party because of him.

Support across communities

TVK's appeal is not limited to one section of society. The exit poll shows the party has gained support among OBC communities, Scheduled Castes, minority groups, urban voters and rural residents.

That broad support is one reason why TVK has performed so strongly across the state.

While its biggest strength is in cities, the party has also made significant gains in villages and smaller towns.

Vijay edges ahead in CM race

The survey also shows a tight race for the chief minister's post. Vijay is the preferred choice of 37 per cent of voters.

Chief Minister MK Stalin is just behind at 35 per cent.

For a first-time candidate, this is a remarkable achievement.

What the exit poll means for Tamil Nadu

If these projections are accurate, Tamil Nadu's traditional two-party system could be changing. For decades, the main battle was between the DMK and AIADMK.

Now, TVK has emerged as a serious challenger.

It could become the largest party, play kingmaker in a hung Assembly, or establish itself as a long-term political force.

A note of caution: Exit polls are only predictions. They can sometimes be wrong. Tamil Nadu has often surprised pollsters in the past.

In fact, other surveys have painted a very different picture.

People's Pulse has projected the DMK-led alliance to win 125 to 145 seats. It estimates TVK at only 18 to 24 seats.

The Matrize poll also puts the DMK alliance ahead with 122 to 132 seats, while TVK is projected to win just 10 to 12 seats.

Even if the final result differs, one thing is clear. Vijay is no longer just a film star entering politics. He is now at the centre of Tamil Nadu's political battle.

Whether he forms the government or not, TVK has already changed the conversation.

Tamil Nadu politics may never be the same again.

A woman in Chennai is accused of drugging her daughter and allowing her boyfriend to sexually assault her. The woman escaped in February and informed relatives. Doctors confirmed a 7-week pregnancy and performed a medical termination with consent.

A deeply disturbing case has emerged from Tamil Nadu's Chennai, where a mother is accused of giving sleeping pills to her 20-year-old daughter and allowing her 50-year-old boyfriend to sexually assault her. The incidents allegedly took place in the Saligramam area, according to a report by Indian Express. Police have registered a case and started a detailed investigation.

Alleged affair and family conflict

According to the police, the woman’s husband works as a security guard in a private company and returns home only once a week. Investigators said the woman began an illicit relationship during this time and often invited her boyfriend to their house.

Police said the daughter strongly objected to her mother's behaviour and warned her several times. Over time, tensions grew and the daughter stopped speaking to her mother.

Police said the situation turned serious on January 3. The daughter was unwell that day. Investigators allege the mother gave her sleeping pills and called her boyfriend to the house. While the young woman was unconscious, the man allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Second incident and confinement

Officials said a similar incident occurred on January 23. The mother allegedly gave sleeping pills again and asked her boyfriend to repeat the act. This time, the young woman reportedly regained consciousness during the assault. She screamed and resisted, but police said her mother threatened her and locked her inside a room.

Escape and medical examination

On February 9, the survivor managed to escape from the house and reached relatives in Tiruvannamalai. She told them about the incidents. As she was suffering from severe stomach pain, her relatives took her to hospital for treatment.

Doctors confirmed that she was pregnant. With her consent, a medical termination of pregnancy was carried out. Police said the pregnancy was about seven weeks old.

The case first came to light after the woman was admitted to Cheyyar Government Hospital. Based on hospital information, the Cheyyar Women’s Police registered a Zero FIR. Since the alleged crimes occurred in Vadapalani, the case was transferred to the Vadapalani Women’s Police Station.

A complaint has been filed against the mother and her boyfriend, identified as Dakshinamurthy. Police said a full investigation is underway and further legal action will follow based on evidence.

The Thoothukudi custodial death case is one of the most shocking police brutality cases in India in recent years. It involves the deaths of a father and son, P Jayaraj and J Benicks (also spelled Bennix/Benniks), who died after being brutally assaulted in police custody in June 2020. The incident happened in Sattankulam town in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district during the Covid-19 lockdown. The case later became a major national issue, raising serious questions about police behaviour and accountability.

Why is the case back in news now?

Nearly six years after the incident, a court in Madurai has delivered a strong verdict. On April 6, 2026, the First Additional District and Sessions Court sentenced nine policemen to death.

Judge G Muthukumaran awarded the death penalty after finding all nine guilty of the double murder. This includes an inspector, sub-inspectors, head constables and constables. The name of the convicts are:

Sreedhar

Balakrishnan

Raghu Ganesh

Murugan

Muthu Raja

Samadurai

Chelladurai

Thomas Francis

Veilumuthu

Another accused, a special sub-inspector, had died in 2020 due to Covid-19.

— Bhadohi Wallah (@Mithileshdhar) April 6, 2026

What happened in June 2020?

According to the investigation, Jayaraj, a trader, was picked up by police on June 19, 2020. He was allegedly detained for violating lockdown rules, though later findings suggested he had not broken any rule.

When his son Benicks went to the police station to question the police action, he was also detained.

Both were then kept inside the police station through the night.

Allegations of brutal torture

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said the father and son were severely beaten in custody. The assault continued for hours. The chargesheet said the accused policemen acted together in a planned way. The violence was allegedly meant to “teach them a lesson”.

Investigators said the two were forced to clean their own blood. Later, a sanitation worker was asked to clean the blood from the station floor to remove evidence.

What happened after the assault?

Despite their serious injuries, a false case was registered against the father and son. Police also managed to get a 'fit for remand' certificate, even though both were badly hurt, reported Indian Express.

They were then sent to judicial custody.

Eyewitness accounts said their clothes were soaked in blood. Family members who saw them were shocked at their condition.

Magistrate remand controversy

One of the most disturbing parts of the case was how they were remanded. According to family members, the two were not properly examined by the magistrate.

They were reportedly made to stand at a distance, and the magistrate remanded them with a simple gesture from upstairs. This raised serious concerns about how injured persons were sent into custody without proper checks.

Deaths in custody

After being sent to jail, their health worsened. Benicks died on June 22, 2020, due to heavy bleeding and injuries. Jayaraj died the next day.

Their deaths caused shock and anger across Tamil Nadu and the country.

Public outrage and court action

The incident led to widespread protests. Traders shut shops, and human rights groups demanded justice.

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court took suo motu action on June 24, 2020. The court ordered an inquiry and expressed lack of trust in the local police.

Initially, the CB-CID handled the case, but it was later handed over to the CBI.

Investigation findings

The judicial magistrate who inspected the police station said officers did not cooperate and tried to create fear.

Important records were delayed, and CCTV footage from the day was missing, even though storage was available.

A woman head constable later told the court that the father and son were tortured through the night. Her statement became a key piece of evidence.

Long trial and delays

In March 2021, the High Court asked for a fast trial. However, the case continued for years due to various reasons, including staff shortages and repeated delays. By 2025, many key witnesses had been examined over several hearings.

One of the accused even tried to turn approver, but the request was rejected.

Final verdict and its impact

On March 23, 2026, the court found all nine policemen guilty. Soon after, on April 6, the death penalty was announced. The verdict is seen as a strong message against custodial violence. It shows that even police officials can be held accountable under the law.

The Thoothukudi custodial death case is important because it exposed serious issues in the system. It showed how power can be misused and why strict checks are needed. The case also highlighted the role of courts, investigators, and witnesses in ensuring justice.

The verdict brings some closure, but it also raises a larger question, i.e. how to prevent such incidents in the future.

Known for its strong and diverse industrial base, Tamil Nadu continued to make steady progress in 2025, recording high growth, attracting major investments, and posting record exports. At the same time, the year also brought fresh challenges, especially for the textile sector, as new US tariffs hit exporters in Tirupur.

The state is now entering 2026 with double-digit growth, backed by strong performance in manufacturing, electronics, automobiles, and emerging sectors like aerospace and defence.

State records highest-ever growth rate

Tamil Nadu recorded an all-time high growth rate of 11.19 per cent, according to revised estimates by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. Chief Minister M K Stalin said the achievement reflected the sustained economic policies followed by the DMK government, which came to power in 2021.

“We are not saying this. As per the Union ministry’s revised estimates, during 2024–25, Tamil Nadu has achieved 11.19 per cent growth,” Stalin said.

Industry department officials noted that the state’s earlier highest growth rate was 9.69 per cent, recorded in 2010–11, when the late DMK leader M Karunanidhi was the Chief Minister.

Ford’s return lifts investor confidence

One of the most positive developments of 2025 was the decision by Ford Motor Company to return to Tamil Nadu. The US-based car maker announced an investment of ₹3,250 crore to produce new-generation engines at its factory in Maraimalai Nagar, near Chennai.

Ford had exited India in 2021, stopping vehicle manufacturing and shutting operations, including its 400-acre plant located about 45 km south of Chennai.

In 2024, the company submitted a Letter of Intent (LoI) to the Tamil Nadu government, confirming plans to use the Chennai facility for engine manufacturing.

The investment is expected to create 600 direct jobs and further strengthen Tamil Nadu’s strong automobile and auto-components ecosystem, the Chief Minister said.

Electronics exports hit historic high

Tamil Nadu also recorded a major milestone in exports during the year. The state achieved a historic high of USD 14.65 billion in electronics exports in the 2024–25 financial year, marking a 53 per cent increase over the previous year.

In 2023–24, electronics exports stood at USD 9.56 billion.

Industry department sources said Tamil Nadu now accounts for 41.23 per cent of India’s total electronics exports, underlining its growing importance in the sector.

State leads in industrial employment

Tamil Nadu continued to lead the country in industrial employment. According to the Annual Survey of Industries 2023-24, released in August 2025, the state ranked first, employing 15.24 per cent of all factory workers in India.

It also has the highest number of factories in the country, with 40,100 units operating across sectors.

Officials said this reflects the state’s long-term focus on manufacturing, infrastructure, and skilled labour.

Investor conclaves drive regional growth

To ensure balanced and inclusive industrial growth, the Tamil Nadu government held region-specific Rising Investor’s Conclaves in August and November.

These were organised in cities such as Coimbatore and Tuticorin to attract investments beyond Chennai. At the Coimbatore conclave in November, the government signed 158 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth ₹43,844 crore, expected to create over one lakh jobs.

At the Tuticorin conclave, the state secured investments of over ₹32,000 crore through 41 MoUs, mainly in sectors such as renewable energy and shipbuilding.

Aerospace and defence get fresh push

Tamil Nadu also strengthened its focus on aerospace and defence manufacturing. At the first edition of AeroDefCon 2025, held in October, the state secured Rs 23,000 crore in investments.

The government has set a target of attracting Rs 75,000 crore in aerospace and defence investments by 2032, positioning Tamil Nadu as a key hub in the sector.

US tariffs hit Tirupur exporters hard

Despite the strong overall performance, the year also brought serious concerns, especially for the textile and garment sector. The US government’s decision to impose a 50 per cent tariff on Indian exports badly affected Tirupur, known as the knitwear capital of India.

Exporters in Tirupur reported a loss of Rs 15,000 crore worth of orders. Production cuts of up to 30 per cent were reported across many units, leading to fears of job losses.

Chief Minister Stalin urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prioritise resolution of the tariff issue through bilateral talks with the US.

Tamil Nadu's textile and apparel sector contributes 28 per cent of India’s total textile exports and provides employment to around 75 lakh people, making the issue a major concern for the state.

As Tamil Nadu steps into 2026, the state stands at a key moment. Strong growth, rising exports, and new investments have boosted confidence, while challenges like global trade pressures remind policymakers of the need for constant support to traditional industries.

How the state balances opportunity and risk will shape its industrial future in the years ahead.

(With agency inputs)

One bus had stopped for pedestrians, blocking visibility, when another bus overtook at speed and hit the biker, who was not wearing a helmet.

A shocking road crash caught on CCTV in Salem, Tamil Nadu, has gone viral and sparked a heated public debate about road safety, speeding, and poor junction design. The footage is time-stamped February 16 at about 8:05 am.

Trigger Warning: Video below contains disturbing visuals. Viewers discretion is advised.

ஒரு நிமிடம் பொறுமையாதா நில்லுங்களேன்...அப்படி என்னதா அவசரம்... pic.twitter.com/Qm0ujpENhV

— Monkey (@Animalofficiall) February 16, 2026

It shows a man on a two-wheeler being crushed by a speeding bus within seconds, leaving bystanders stunned.

In the viral video, one bus is seen stopping near a junction to allow pedestrians and some bikers to cross the road. A man on a bike, who is not wearing a helmet, begins to cross from the front of the stopped bus. At that moment, another bus suddenly approaches fast from the right side. The moving bus overtakes near the junction and runs over the biker.

The entire incident happens in just a few seconds. People nearby appear shocked as the crash unfolds without warning. The speed of the second bus and the blocked view caused by the first bus seem to play a key role in the collision.

Many on X pointed out several risk factors. The biker did not wear a helmet. He crossed from in front of a stopped vehicle, which blocked his view of the road. At the same time, the second bus was travelling fast while overtaking near a junction, a situation many people described as extremely dangerous.

Several users stressed a basic road safety rule: never cross in front of or behind a large stopped vehicle because it creates a blind spot. Others noted that vehicles must slow down near intersections and crossings, especially when another bus is already stopped.

The viral video triggered hundreds of reactions online. Many people said the crash could have been avoided with a little patience and caution. Some blamed the biker for crossing without checking the lane properly. Others blamed the speeding bus driver for not slowing down near a busy junction.

Several users argued that both drivers made mistakes. They said the biker should have waited for a clear view before crossing, while the bus should not have overtaken at speed near an intersection.

A large number of comments focused on road design. Some users questioned why a bus stopped so close to a junction, saying this blocked visibility and increased risk. Many suggested bus stops should be located at least 100 feet after a crossing to prevent such incidents.

It's both mistake, bus also too fast at intersection, if it comes under 30-40 easily it could have been braked. And biker, don't cross the road blindly, always check before cross if any vehicles are incoming or not.

— SK (@shan8928) February 17, 2026

Others highlighted broader infrastructure issues, including lack of speed breakers, poor planning of bus stops at three-road or four-road junctions, and weak traffic enforcement. Some also criticised careless driving habits and lack of road safety awareness.

Calls for stricter safety practices

Road safety observers emphasised simple preventive steps: slow down near intersections, never overtake at crossings, always wear a helmet, and ensure a full view of traffic before crossing. Many users said such crashes are common and happen due to hurry and negligence.

Some also urged authorities to review junction safety, relocate bus stops away from crossings, and improve driver training and public awareness to prevent similar tragedies.

A major political argument broke out in Tamil Nadu on Friday after Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin called Sanskrit 'a dead language'. His remarks, made at a book release event in Chennai, triggered strong criticism from the BJP, which accused him of insulting Indian culture and speaking irresponsibly.

Udhayanidhi says Sanskrit receives more funds than Tamil

Speaking at the launch of the book Dravidam 2.0 - Why? For What?, written by journalist T. Senthilvel, Udhayanidhi Stalin repeated the DMK's long-held complaint that the Union Government was not doing enough for Tamil. He said the Centre had allotted only Rs 150 crore for Tamil Development.

He then compared this figure with the funds given to Sanskrit. He said the Union Government had allotted Rs 2,400 crore for Sanskrit, which he described as 'a dead language'. He argued that the Centre’s approach was unfair and worked against Tamil interests.

The first copy of the book was received by School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.

Criticism of Centre over Tamil heritage and projects

During his speech, Udhayanidhi also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for praising the Chola emperor Raja Raja Chola now, even though the Union Government had earlier rejected Tamil Nadu’s request for a statue of the emperor. He said this showed double standards.

He further accused the BJP government at the Centre of ignoring Tamil Nadu’s development needs. He claimed that metro rail projects were denied to Coimbatore, while “smaller cities like Agra and Kanpur” received such projects.

Remarks on Dravidian model and former AIADMK rule

At the event, Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi praised the governance of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, calling it “Kalaignar 2.0-level good governance”. He described the book’s author, T. Senthilvel, as a strong Dravidian voice and an outspoken critic of the RSS. He said Senthilvel’s writing reveals “BJP’s diversion tactics during elections”.

The Minister also criticised the previous AIADMK government. He said that the Jayalalithaa administration had dismantled the Samacheer Kalvi school system, turned the new Secretariat into a hospital, and even rented out the Anna Centenary Library for marriage functions.

He highlighted the success of schemes such as the breakfast programme and the Vidiyal Payanam free travel scheme for women. According to him, these schemes have helped lakhs of school students and women across Tamil Nadu.

BJP reacts sharply to Udhayanidhi's 'dead language' comment

The BJP responded quickly and firmly to Udhayanidhi’s remarks. Senior BJP leader and former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan strongly condemned his statement. Speaking to PTI Videos, she said no leader had the right to call any language 'dead'.

She said Sanskrit was still used every day in prayers, temples, rituals and cultural ceremonies across India. Because of this continued use, calling it a dead language was 'insensitive and wrong'.

#WATCH | Chennai: On Tamil Nadu Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin's reported statement on Sanskrit language, BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan says, "We can appreciate our own language but even Tamil won't allow degrading other languages...If you appreciate one language, it does not… pic.twitter.com/ptma879CgH

— ANI (@ANI) November 21, 2025

She also said that appreciating one’s own language should not mean insulting another. 'Tamil is broad-minded. It has absorbed many words and ideas from other languages, including Sanskrit', she said. She added that Tamil’s openness shows its strength and not weakness.

Tamilisai Soundararajan accused Udhayanidhi of attacking both Sanatana Dharma and Sanskrit. “This is highly condemnable. He has to take back his words,” she said.

The exchange has added a new chapter to the ongoing language and culture debates in Tamil Nadu politics. As both the DMK and BJP continue to defend their positions, the issue is likely to remain in the spotlight in the coming days as the elections approach.

(With inputs from agencies)

By 5:30 PM, the food is delivered to the Wallajah Mosque, where hundreds gather to break their fast.

Harish Makkar, a volunteer, told The Times of India that the team has been serving Iftar for nearly four decades.

A Class 12 schoolgirl was stabbed to death in broad daylight in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, in a brutal attack that has shocked the State and triggered strong political reactions. Police said a 21-year-old man, who lived in the same locality, allegedly killed the teenager because she had repeatedly rejected his love proposal. The incident happened while the girl was walking to school in Rameswaram. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Muniyaraj and have begun questioning him. Political parties, including the PMK, AIADMK and BJP, criticised the ruling DMK, accusing the government of failing to protect women and students.

How the attack happened

The 17-year-old victim lived with her family in Cherankottai near the island town. According to police, the accused had been allegedly stalking her for days and pressuring her to accept his romantic interest. The girl refused several times, and her family had reportedly warned him to stop troubling her. The girl’s father, Mariyappan, a fisherman, had confronted the youth recently over his harassment. Local reports say he firmly told the accused to stay away from his daughter. Police said this warning appears to have angered the 21-year-old. On Wednesday morning, when the girl left home for school, the accused allegedly followed her. Officers said he confronted her on a public road and then stabbed her several times with a knife. The attack was so sudden and serious that she collapsed on the spot. A preliminary inquiry revealed that the girl died from her injuries before she could receive any medical help.

Police response and arrest

Passersby who saw the violent attack immediately alerted the police. Personnel from the Port Police Station reached the spot quickly and recovered the girl’s body. Officers sent the body to a government hospital for a post-mortem examination. A case of murder has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police said. After the attack, the accused tried to flee the area, but a special police team tracked him down and arrested him. He has been taken into custody and further investigation is under way. Police officials said they are also checking whether the accused had planned the attack in advance, and if he had a history of troubling girls in the area.

Strong political reactions

The killing led to sharp criticism from several political parties, who accused the DMK government of failing to maintain law and order. AIADMK attacks the government AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami expressed shock and questioned how a schoolgirl could be murdered on her way to school in broad daylight. “Who is responsible for a situation where even a girl student going to school in the morning is not safe? Where did the accused get the audacity to murder a school girl in broad daylight?” he wrote. He said such incidents reflect a “complete erosion of law and order on women’s safety under the Stalin-model DMK regime” and demanded that the accused receive the maximum punishment allowed by law.

PMK demands stronger safety measures

PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss also criticised the DMK government. He said his party had repeatedly urged the government to provide police protection near schools, bus stops and public areas where students and young women face harassment. “DMK did not heed the demand of the PMK and this has led to the brutal murder of an innocent student in Rameswaram. DMK government should take responsibility for this,” he said in a statement. He demanded the death penalty for the accused and called for ₹25 lakh compensation for the victim’s family.

BJP expresses anger over rising crimes against women

BJP Tamil Nadu unit president Nainar Nagenthran said crimes against women have not reduced under the current government. "For the past 4.5 years, the BJP has been spearheading numerous protests and demonstrations to strengthen women's safety," he said. He offered his condolences to the family and said parents now feel unsafe even with heavy police deployment in public places. "The National Democratic Alliance will deliver swift and decisive justice to end this reign of terror by the DMK," he wrote.

The murder has left residents of the area deeply disturbed. Many have demanded stronger policing, especially near schools. Police presence has been increased in the region to prevent tensions. Officials said the investigation will continue until all aspects of the case are clear. The accused remains in custody.

(With inputs from agencies)

A simple act of help on a Kerala beach has turned into a heart-warming viral story, winning praise across social media. A woman from Delhi became an unexpected hero after she helped rescue a car carrying tourists from Tamil Nadu that got stuck in wet sand at Muzhappilangad Drive-in Beach.

The incident was caught on video and later shared on Instagram and Reddit, where it quickly gained attention. Netizens from across the country praised the woman for her calm driving skills, presence of mind and willingness to help strangers.

The viral video shows a Mahindra Scorpio badly stuck in dense, soaked sand on the shore. Around 10 to 15 people can be seen trying to push the vehicle out by hand. They dig around the tyres and try different ways to free the car, but nothing works.

A police vehicle and police officers are also visible at the spot. Despite all efforts, the Scorpio remains stuck deeper in the sand, unable to move.

This is when a Mahindra Thar, driven by a woman, enters the scene.
    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Aflah E (@aflu__stories_)

A Delhi lady became the hero when Tamil Nadu tourists were trapped on a Kerala shore.byu/crizes1 inIndiansBeingBros

The moment that changed everything

In the video, the Thar is tied to the Scorpio from behind using a rope. The woman carefully drives her Thar to pull the stuck Scorpio. Within moments, the Scorpio comes free from the sand.

Cheers erupt instantly. People around clap, shout and record the moment. The joy on their faces is clear as the stuck car finally moves out of danger.

At the end of the video, several people are seen gathering around the woman, thanking her and taking pictures. Many viewers called the moment 'wholesome' and 'pure joy'.

Several social media users identified the location as Muzhappilangad Beach in Kerala's Kannur district. It is known as India's only drive-in beach, where cars and bikes are allowed on the sand.

Locals pointed out that the sand at this beach is usually denser than normal beach sand. However, once it gets wet, vehicles can still get stuck if drivers are not careful.

Some users reminded others that even on drive-in beaches, caution is always needed.

Internet reacts with humour and pride

The video triggered thousands of reactions online. Many praised the woman driver, calling her confident and skilled.

Comments like 'What a lady!', 'She should be the brand ambassador of Thar' and 'First positive use of Thar I have seen' flooded social media.

Some joked about how potholes and beaches are uniting Indians, as a Delhi woman helped Tamil Nadu tourists on a Kerala beach. Others called it a perfect example of unity in diversity.

There were also funny reactions about the Thar, a vehicle often linked to rash driving in news reports. One user wrote, "A Thar doing something good… am I still alive?" Another replied, "That’s because a woman is driving it."

A moment of positivity

Many users said the video was the best thing they saw that day. Others loved the cheering sounds and the happiness when the car finally came out.

Comments like 'Yeh mera India', 'Delhi and Tamil Nadu together' and 'Now this is the positivity I came online for' summed up the mood.

In a time when social media often highlights conflict, this short video showed something different. A stranger helping another, no questions asked. A woman calmly taking charge. And people from different states coming together on a beach. Sometimes, it is these small moments that remind everyone why kindness still matters.

A police case has been registered against BJP Karur president VV Senthilnathan for allegedly making obscene and derogatory remarks about Congress MP S. Jothimani during a February 10 protest in Karur. Jothimani condemned the comments as sexist abuse.

A political controversy has broken out in Tamil Nadu after police registered a case against V. V. Senthilnathan, the district president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karur. The case relates to remarks he allegedly made about Congress Member of Parliament S. Jothimani during a protest earlier this month.

The protest was organised on February 10 in front of the Head Post Office in Karur by the BJP’s women’s wing. According to police, Senthilnathan allegedly made indecent and derogatory comments about the MP while addressing the gathering. Officials said the speech was insulting to womanhood and could disturb public peace.

Based on a complaint by Karur District Congress president Ramesh, Karur Town Police registered a case under multiple legal provisions, including sections related to insulting the modesty of a woman, public mischief and criminal defamation. The case also invokes provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.

What the FIR alleges

According to details cited from the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant accused the BJP leader of making sexually coloured and degrading statements about the elected woman MP in a public forum using amplified sound. The complaint says the remarks amounted to a direct attack on her dignity and were intended to humiliate and intimidate her.

The FIR also alleges that references of a sexual nature were used to shame the MP publicly. It further claims the speech created a real threat to her safety and could incite hostility and unrest among the public.

A video shared by Jothimani on social media allegedly shows VVSenthilnathan making crude comments and saying she should be deported from the country. Police said they are examining available evidence as part of the investigation.

I am releasing this obscene and deeply repulsive video, in which the Karur District President of the BJP, Mr Senthil Nathan, speaks about me, with full awareness and firm resolve. I am making it public because only then can society respond with the anger and condemnation that men… pic.twitter.com/ybAUXQvn4b

— Jothimani (@jothims) February 16, 2026

Jothimani’s reaction

Reacting strongly in New Delhi, Jothimani described the comments as obscene and deeply offensive. She said no woman should face such abuse in public life.

She alleged that the remarks reduced her identity to her gender and body, ignoring her work, merit and political role. She also claimed the comments reflected a wider mindset used to silence outspoken women in politics.

#WATCH | Delhi | On BJP leader VV Senthilnathan's remarks, Congress MP Jothimani says, "These are very disgusting and obscene remarks against me. However, in a situation where one cannot respond to an opinion with another opinion, using language that degrades women's dignity as a weapon only reveals the decline of political decency. The mindset of viewing women not through their labor, talent, and social service, but solely through a sexual lens is dangerous to society itself," he wrote in his X post.

VV Senthilnathan denied any vulgar intent. He said his words were taken out of context and insisted he did not speak in a derogatory manner. He refused to apologise and instead said the MP should apologise for what he claimed was an insult to the country.

He also stated that the protest was aimed at criticising alleged attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament by opposition women MPs. This claim has been rejected by the MP and opposition leaders.

The controversy has triggered sharp political reactions. Congress leaders condemned the remarks and demanded strict action. Manickam Tagore said the incident reflected a broader pattern of misogyny in public discourse and called for disciplinary action.

We strongly condemn the disgraceful remarks made by BJP president V. V. Senthilnathan against Sister MP Jothimani. This is not an isolated outburst — it reflects the toxic RSS-BJP mindset that normalises misogyny and personal attacks on women in public life. That episode had already sparked public outrage, increasing scrutiny of political speech in the state.

Opposition parties say repeated personal attacks on women leaders weaken democratic debate. They argue that criticism in politics should focus on policies and governance rather than personal remarks.

Legal position and next steps

Police confirmed that the case has been registered under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita dealing with words or gestures intended to insult the modesty of a woman, statements causing public mischief and criminal defamation. Investigators are reviewing video evidence and witness accounts.

If charges are established, the case could proceed to prosecution. Officials have not yet announced any arrest or further legal action.

Cyclone Ditwah is moving closer to the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-South Andhra Pradesh coast, bringing the risk of very heavy rain, strong winds, and rough sea conditions. Multiple districts are under red and orange alerts, fishermen have been pulled away from the sea, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed across several areas as the storm slowly intensifies. Officials say the exact landfall time will depend on the cyclone’s shifting track over the next 24 hours.

The cyclonic system developed from a deep depression near the Sri Lankan coast and is now being treated as a cyclonic storm. For now, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) does not expect it to grow into a severe cyclone, but it is still strong enough to bring dangerous weather across southern India.

Cyclonic Storm Ditwah [Pronunciation: Ditwah] over coastal Sri Lanka & adjoining southwestBay of Bengal: Cyclone Alert for north Tamil Nadu & Puducherry andadjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts (Orange Message) The Cyclonic Storm Ditwah [Pronunciation: Ditwah] over coastalSri… pic.twitter.com/5tws6Xm4F5

— India Meteorological Department (@Indiametdept) November 28, 2025

Cyclone track and wind strength

According to the IMD, winds near the core of Cyclone Ditwah may reach 60-80 kmph, with gusts up to 90 kmph. The outer bands could produce winds of 35–45 kmph, gusting to 55 kmph. Similar conditions may also appear over parts of the Arabian Sea near Kerala, Lakshadweep, and the Maldives.

The IMD said that the system is currently over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, close to the Sri Lankan coast. As of early Friday morning, the storm was located:

50 km south of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka)

70 km northwest of Batticaloa

220 km north of Hambantota

460 km south-southeast of Puducherry

560 km south-southeast of Chennai

The storm moved at 10 kmph in the last six hours. It is likely to continue travelling north-northwest along the Sri Lankan coast, re-enter the Bay of Bengal, and then approach the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-South Andhra coast between the evening of November 29 and the morning of November 30.

Red and orange alerts in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu has issued a red alert for:

Thanjavur

Tiruvarur

Nagapattinam

Mayiladuthurai

These districts may receive more than 20 cm of rain in 24 hours. An orange alert has been issued for nearby districts such as:

Chennai

Tiruvallur

Kancheepuram

Ranipet

Chengalpattu

Chief Minister MK Stalin held a meeting with the state’s disaster management authority to check preparedness. He directed all departments to coordinate closely and ensure relief teams are ready. Authorities said the northeast monsoon has brought about 35 cm of rain so far, slightly more than normal, although Chennai remains 31% below its usual rainfall.

In the last 24 hours, scattered rain was seen in Tamil Nadu. Thangachimadam recorded 3 cm of rain, while Puducherry and Karaikal saw very little.

The cyclone’s name, Ditwah, was suggested by Yemen. It is likely inspired by the Detwah Lagoon located on Socotra Island.

Warnings and alerts in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) confirmed that the deep depression near Sri Lanka strengthened into Cyclone Ditwah and is now moving towards the state. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected across:

South Coastal Andhra Pradesh

Rayalaseema

Districts expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain include:

Chittoor

Tirupati

Nellore

Prakasam

YSR Kadapa

Annamayya

Sri Sathya Sai

The storm is expected to move close to the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-south Andhra stretch between November 29 and 30.

Alerts and instructions for Puducherry

Puducherry is under an orange alert from November 28 to December 1 due to the impact of Cyclone Ditwah. The administration issued several safety warnings:

Residents should avoid stepping out unless absolutely necessary.

People should not take shelter under trees, lamp posts, or weak buildings.

Parents should keep children away from open spaces during strong winds or heavy rain.

Emergency help can be reached through: 1077, 1070, 112

Disaster Management Authority WhatsApp helpline: 94889 81070

Sri Lanka faces heavy damage, deaths and floods

While India prepares for the cyclone, Sri Lanka is already experiencing the worst phase of the weather linked to the same system. The country has seen three days of continuous rain, which triggered:

Severe floods

Landslides

Road collapses

Transport shutdowns

Sri Lankan officials confirmed that 47 people have died so far. Schools and institutions are closed, and seven districts are under a red alert. The Sri Lankan Air Force has been deployed for rescue operations.

Train services have been reduced, and many flights may be diverted to Thiruvananthapuram or Cochin due to poor visibility and storms.

Officials say the flooding is linked to the deep depression near Sri Lanka, the same weather system that eventually developed into Cyclone Ditwah over the Bay of Bengal.

NDRF teams deployed across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry

In response to requests from the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry disaster management authorities, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed eight teams across the region. Details of deployment:

Puducherry: 2 teams (60 personnel)

Thanjavur: 1 team

Nagapattinam: 1 team

Mayiladuthurai: 1 team

Pudukkottai: 1 team

Cuddalore: 1 team

Tiruvarur: 1 team

Each team has 30 trained members.

The deployment also includes the Search Dog Unit, which has four trained dogs:

Rani

Mickey

Laika

Rambo

These dogs help rescuers find trapped victims during disasters, especially in collapsed buildings or debris-covered areas.

IMD updates and what to expect next

The IMD said that Cyclone Ditwah is intensifying slowly, but there is no current forecast for it to upgrade into a severe cyclonic storm. Still, the rainfall may be very heavy, and the storm will bring unsafe sea conditions. The biggest concern remains:

Heavy to very heavy rain in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh

Rough seas, making fishing unsafe for the next five days

Falling trees or damage to weak structures due to wind

Flooding in low-lying areas

A clearer landfall prediction will become possible once the cyclone moves away from the Sri Lankan coast into open sea.

Cyclone Ditwah is moving steadily toward the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry-South Andhra coast, bringing warnings, alerts, and large-scale preparation. With NDRF teams on the ground, red and orange alerts issued, and rescue forces active in Sri Lanka, authorities have asked people to stay cautious, stay indoors, and follow all safety instructions. Over the next 24 hours, the storm’s track will determine how strong the impact will be along the Indian coast.

(With inputs from agencies)

The Alappuzha Cyber Crime Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a large online share trading fraud in which an elderly man was cheated of ₹8.08 crore. The accused contacted the victim through WhatsApp, pretending to be a representative of a reputed share trading company.

The arrest has brought attention to the rising number of cyber frauds linked to fake investment apps and social media platforms. The arrested accused has been identified as Bharathikannan Angamuthu (23), a native of Salem, Tamil Nadu. He is an automobile engineering graduate.

Police said Bharathikannan played a key role in gaining the victim’s trust and diverting large sums of money through multiple bank transactions.

How the fraud was carried out

According to police, the fraud began with a WhatsApp call, during which the accused convinced the elderly man that he was an authorised share trading expert. The victim was then asked to install a fake mobile application named “RARCII”.

The app displayed false profit figures, making it appear that the investments were growing rapidly. To further mislead the victim, the accused added him to a WhatsApp group named “C778 Reliance Capital Innovators Hub”, where fake messages claimed that other members were earning huge profits.

Between September 24 and December 20, the victim transferred money in 73 separate transactions.

Service charge trick and company link

When the victim later attempted to withdraw the so-called profits, the fraudsters demanded additional money, claiming it was a mandatory service charge. This led to further losses.

Police revealed that the accused had started a private firm named Valiant Strive Corporation Private Limited in Salem along with his classmate Sabareesh Sekhar. The victim was made to transfer ₹35.5 lakh directly into the company’s current account.

Co-accused already in jail

The second accused, Sabareesh Sekhar, is currently lodged in Trichy Central Jail in connection with a similar cyber fraud case. The Alappuzha Cyber Crime Police confirmed that he will be formally taken into custody in this case as well.

Investigation across multiple states

Police said the fraud involved bank accounts spread across several states, making the investigation complex. Financial trails are being examined with the help of banks and cyber experts.

Authorities confirmed that a charge sheet will be filed within three months.

Police warning to the public

The Cyber Crime Police issued a strong warning, stating that nearly 90 percent of trading tips shared on social media are fake. They also clarified that share trading cannot be done without a valid Demat account.

People have been advised to avoid unknown calls, WhatsApp investment groups, and unverified mobile apps.

A major political controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu over the recently released Tamil film Parasakthi, starring actor Sivakarthikeyan. The Tamil Nadu Youth Congress has demanded an immediate ban on the film, alleging that it distorts historical facts, promotes the DMK, and takes an anti-Hindu stand.

The party has accused the filmmakers of misrepresenting key events linked to the Congress and of deliberately portraying former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the Congress party in a negative light. The controversy has added a strong political edge to the film’s release, with reactions coming from both political and cinema circles.

Youth Congress demands ban on the film

The demand for a ban was made by Arun Bhaskar, senior vice president of the Tamil Nadu Youth Congress. He described Parasakthi as a “pro-DMK movie with a pro-Tamil and anti-Hindu stand” and claimed it spreads false narratives about the Congress.

According to Bhaskar, the film does not merely take creative liberty but intentionally alters history to damage the image of the Congress party. He said such portrayals could mislead younger audiences who may not be aware of historical facts.

For those who have watched the movie and told me there are historical inaccuracies that show congress in a poor light. The film is set against the backdrop of the 1960s student movements and anti-Hindi protests in Tamil Nadu. It is written and directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad and stars Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela in lead roles.

The movie faced delays before release due to censor issues. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly ordered 25 cuts, and some scenes were marked as fictional. The makers later confirmed that the film received a U/A certificate and announced its worldwide theatrical release.

Objection over post office language claim

One of the main objections raised by the Youth Congress relates to a scene suggesting that post office forms were allowed only in Hindi during the Congress rule. Arun Bhaskar said this claim is completely false. He stated that in 1965, the Congress government never issued any order forcing people across states to fill post office forms only in Hindi. According to him, the scene was deliberately created to mislead viewers and malign the Congress party.

Dispute over depiction of Indira Gandhi

The Youth Congress has also strongly objected to scenes involving former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Bhaskar claimed that the film shows Sivakarthikeyan’s character meeting Indira Gandhi in Coimbatore on February 12, 1965, to oppose Hindi imposition.

He dismissed this scene as entirely fictional, saying Indira Gandhi never visited Coimbatore on that date. “This meeting did not happen at all,” he said, adding that such portrayals wrongly show the former Prime Minister in a poor light.

Train burning scene called baseless

Another scene that drew sharp criticism shows a burning train falling in front of Indira Gandhi. Arun Bhaskar described this sequence as utter nonsense with no link to real events.

He said the film falsely suggests that Indira Gandhi witnessed violent incidents and accepted signatures against Hindi imposition, which, according to him, never happened. “None of these events ever took place in history,” he said.

Serious allegation over Pollachi killings

Bhaskar also objected to the film’s climax, which flashes real photographs of Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and K Kamaraj. He claimed the film accuses the Congress of shooting and killing more than 200 Tamil people in Pollachi.

Calling this allegation extremely serious, he said there is no evidence to support such a claim. He accused the filmmakers of irresponsibly using real historical figures to push false accusations.

Demand for apology and legal warning

The Youth Congress has strongly condemned the film and demanded the immediate removal of objectionable scenes. Arun Bhaskar also called for a public apology from the film’s production team.

He warned that strict legal action would be initiated if the film was not taken down or if the makers failed to apologise. He also urged Congress workers across Tamil Nadu to protest against what he described as injustice and historical distortion.

Kamal Haasan's praise for film’s political message

Earlier, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan offered strong praise for Parasakthi. After watching the film, he wrote a letter to Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, sharing his views. Kamal Haasan said he did not expect the film to carry such strong political weight. He described Parasakthi as a 'mighty war drum' ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

He wrote that the film should succeed and called it a 'victorious tilak etched into the history of the DMK'. He also praised director Sudha Kongara and Sivakarthikeyan for choosing and committing to such a powerful story.

Cast, crew and audience response

Kamal Haasan congratulated the entire cast and crew, including Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, Sreeleela, cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran, music composer G.V. Prakash, editor Sathish Suriya, and other technicians. He said they had become part of cinematic history.

Parasakthi has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. While some praised its political message and performances, others questioned its historical accuracy. The film’s trailer, which shows Sivakarthikeyan as a coal tosser in Indian Railways, had already sparked debate due to its political tone.

(With ANI inputs)
