Actor and producer Rana Daggubati has now weighed in on the topic, emphasizing that cinema is a lifestyle rather than a conventional job. “This is not a job; it's a lifestyle. You can decide whether you want it or not. Each film demands different things. Making bigger and more successful films than other industries is possible because we can make them within the required budget,” he explained.

Stars Must Manage Expectations and Budgets

Rana added that stars need to manage their expectations and expenses. “There is a limit to the luxury allowed for each star beyond a certain point. Many big stars in Telugu cinema have their own production houses, so they are aware of how budgets can be managed. They focus on completing the film within the stipulated time rather than demanding fixed hours.”

Creativity Cannot Be Confined to Eight Hours

He concluded by underlining the unique nature of filmmaking: “Cinema is like a lifestyle. It's not a factory where you come at nine and leave at five. Creativity cannot be confined to eight hours. If the people involved don't understand that they are creating a story and aren't willing to go the extra mile, the film won’t happen.” Rana Daggubati shared these insights in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Earlier, ED issued a summons notice to the actor for July 23, but due to Daggubati's prior commitments and shooting schedule, the artist sought time to appear at the Hyderabad Zonal ED office.

Earlier this year, the Telangana police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against 25 celebrities and influencers, including popular figures like Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Manchu Lakshmi, for allegedly promoting illegal betting and gambling apps through their social media platforms.

The FIR was filed at the Miyapur Police Station in Hyderabad following a petition by 32-year-old businessman PM Phanindra Sarma.

The complaint, lodged on March 19 this year, highlights a disturbing trend of celebrities and influencers promoting illegal gambling apps that violate the Public Gambling Act of 1867.

Sarma claims that during a conversation with youth in his community on March 16, he discovered many individuals had been influenced to invest their money in these gambling apps, which were heavily advertised by social media personalities.

According to the complaint, these celebrities are allegedly accepting large sums of money to promote various betting platforms, which encourage users to gamble their hard-earned money.

Sarma himself was on the verge of investing in one of these platforms but refrained after his family warned him about the potential financial dangers. The police report lists several celebrities and influencers who are accused of promoting illegal gambling apps, including: Rana Daggubati Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, Manchu Lakshmi, Praneetha, Nidhi Agarwal, Ananya Nagella, Siri Hanumanthu, Sreemukhi, Varshini Sounderajan and many others.

The petition emphasises that these apps and platforms are causing widespread financial harm, particularly among lower and middle-class families who are being lured into the false promise of easy money.

The apps often rely on celebrities to build credibility, leading vulnerable individuals to invest substantial amounts of money, only to face financial ruin. The Telangana police have charged the accused under multiple sections of the TS Gaming Act and the IT Act, including Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, which deals with cheating and identity theft.

The FIR also includes sections that address the promotion of illegal betting activities, with the investigation now being handled by Officer G Ramesh Naidu.

"This investigation underscores our commitment to protecting the public from harmful gambling and betting platforms that exploit individuals for financial gain," said K Kranthi Kumar, Inspector of Police, Police Stations Miyapur.

“Betting apps are illegal, but the gaming apps I promoted are registered with the government and completely legal,” said Deverakonda.

Gaming Apps Like A23 Are Legal, Says Vijay

Deverakonda explained that apps like A23 and Dream Level are officially registered and even sponsor national sporting events such as cricket and volleyball. He emphasized the clear difference between gaming and betting apps, stating that A23 is a fully licensed and legal platform.

He also noted that he had submitted all requested documents to the ED, including agreements, bank account details, and transaction records. Deverakonda expressed confusion over why his name was linked to illegal activity.

“Apps like A23, My11Circle, and Dream11 are legal and sponsor the Indian cricket team, Olympic teams, IPL, and WPL. I provided all necessary details to the ED, and they seemed satisfied with the information. The Supreme Court and the government decide what is legal in this country,” he added.

Ongoing Investigation into Celebrities' Involvement

Apart from Deverakonda, several other film stars have been linked to the illegal betting app case, which is being taken seriously by the government. Prakash Raj, Rana Daggubati, Manchu Lakshmi, and Ananya Nagalla are among the celebrities whose names have surfaced.

Prakash Raj was questioned on July 30.

Rana Daggubati and Manchu Lakshmi are scheduled to appear before the ED on August 11 and August 13, respectively.

Vijay Deverakonda's 'Kushi' Performs Well at the Box Office

Meanwhile, Vijay Deverakonda was recently seen in ‘Kushi’, directed by Gautam Tinnanuri, which received a positive response upon release. The film earned over ₹80 crore in its opening weekend, although earnings reportedly slowed down starting Monday.

‘Kushi’ also stars Satyadev, Venkatesh Y.P., and Bhagyashree in key roles. It is jointly produced by Nagavamsi and Sai Soujanya. The film needs to earn approximately ₹20 crore more to break even.

Officials said the actors are being called as part of the ongoing investigation into the promotion and potential financial links with such platforms.

Rana is set to appear on July 23, followed by Prakash Raj on July 30, Deverakonda on August 6 and Manchu Lakshmi on August 13.

After this news broke out in March, Deverakonda issued a clarification via a press statement. Deverakonda's team said in the statement that the actor entered into a contract with the company as a brand ambassador for skill-based games and endorsed the company in regions and territories where online skill-based games were legally permitted. 

"This is to inform the public and all concerned parties that Vijay Deverakonda has officially entered into a contract with a company solely for the limited purpose of serving as a brand ambassador for skill-based games. His endorsement was strictly confined to regions and territories where online skill-based games are legally permitted," the statement said.

Paid promotions raise legal concerns

The FIR alleges that celebrities received payments from the betting app companies in exchange for promoting them online. These promotions reportedly convinced vulnerable individuals to spend money on risky and unlawful online betting, often resulting in severe financial trouble.

The ED is expected to record their statements in the coming days even as it is collecting more FIRs and looking for more complainants who were duped or cheated by these betting platforms.

Support for websites such as Junglee Rummy, A23, JeetWin, Parimatch, Lotus365, and others is suspected by the ED of including the laundering of substantial quantities of money through sponsored promotions.

A comprehensive investigation is underway to find the estimated amount of the "proceeds of crime" generated by these apps and the exact role of the celebrities. Their guilt will be decided following recording of their statements and version, the sources said.

According to BNS sections 318(4), 112 r/w 49, Telangana Gaming Act sections 3, 3 (A), 4, IT Act 2000, and 2008 section 66D, the ECIR has been booked.

Investigators believe that these endorsement efforts may have been used to launder money since they channelled enormous quantities of money.

The police registered the case on a complaint by one Phanidra Sharma, a resident of Miyapur, who stated that he found several celebrities and social media influencers actively promoting illegal betting apps, websites and other platforms. The complainant claimed that by promoting this addictive, transient, dangerous money-making habit, which results in financial suffering, the advertising of betting applications was harming both people and society.

The two-minute-forty-four-second trailer shows Rana Daggubati's character taking on a dangerous final mission while dealing with family issues and facing off against a new rival, played by Arjun Rampal.

Shared on Instagram by the makers on Tuesday, the trailer gives a quick look at what fans can expect in the new season. Rana is seen trying to leave behind his violent past for his family. He tells his wife, played by Surveen Chawla, that he is quitting. But things take a sharp turn as he finds himself in a new fight--this time against his own father, Naga Naidu, played by Venkatesh Daggubati.

New Faces and a Fierce Rivalry

As per ANI, "Film Nagar Police of Hyderabad registered a case against prominent Telugu film personalities, including Venkatesh Daggubati, Rana Daggubati, his brother Abhiram Daggubati, and their father Suresh Babu Daggubati in connection with the demolition of Deccan Kitchen Hotel, located in Film Nagar."

The FIR names Daggubati Suresh as the first accused (A1), his brother Daggubati Venkatesh as the second, Suresh's son and actor Daggubati Rana as the third, and Rana's brother and producer Daggubati Abhiram as the fourth.

A complaint has been filed concerning the demolition of the Deccan Kitchen Hotel under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 448, 452, 458, and 120B for trespass and criminal conspiracy. Nanda Kumar, who gave the court order, accused Venkatesh Daggubati and his family members of illegally demolishing the Deccan Kitchen Hotel.

According to reports, the Daggubati family owned the land where the Deccan Kitchen Hotel was located but leased it to a businessman named Nanda Kumar, a suspect in a separate MLA purchase case.

Previously, the GHMC ordered the destruction of the Deccan Kitchen Hotel, but the work was suspended owing to a legal battle. According to the plaintiff, the defendants caused damages worth more than Rs 20 crores while the properties were in court custody in 2022.

Meanwhile, Rana Daggubati has yet to issue an official remark on the legal issues surrounding the destruction of the Deccan Kitchen Hotel. 

Venkatesh is known for staying away from controversies. He maintains a private life, rarely seen in public. His life revolves around films, family, and Rama Naidu Studios. Surprisingly, a case has been filed against him just days before the release of his movie 'Sankranthiki Vastunnam'.

The demolition of Deccan Kitchen Hotel in Film Nagar has become a contentious issue. The Daggubati family is responsible for the demolition. The land, on which the hotel stood, is the subject of a dispute between the Daggubati family and Nandakumar, a victim in a previous MLA poaching case.

Nandakumar approached the City Civil Court in Nampally, and the case is pending. He also approached the High Court, which issued a stay order. Ignoring the High Court's order, the hotel was completely demolished on Saturday. The Nampally Court reacted strongly.

Following the court's order, the police filed an FIR on Saturday and initiated an investigation. Venkatesh, Suresh Babu, Rana, and Abhiram were booked under sections 448, 452, 458, and 120B for the illegal demolition of Deccan Kitchen Hotel. When it was shown in theatres, Vettaiyan received various reactions from viewers and the press. Despite receiving various reviews, a number of cinemas in Tamil Nadu are still showing the film. The film has made more than Rs 200 crore globally.

The high-budget movie will be available in seven different languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi, in India and in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

TJ Gnanavel is the director of the action drama film Vettaiyan at the helm. Among the actors who play significant parts in the movie are Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Abhirami, Dushara Vijayan, and Ritika Singh. The screenplay for the movie was prepared by Gnanavel and B Kiruthika for the film together.

Anirudh Ravichander composed the film's score, which was financed by Sun Pictures. Philomin Raj, an editor, and SR Kathir, a cinematographer, are both technical team members. 

The actress named Telangana first, then Andhra Pradesh, and then Karnataka. However, Rana had to help her recall Tamil Nadu. He asked, “Where is Tamil from?” helping her guess. She seems to have forgotten to include Kerala, though. Again, Rana tried to help her. "Where is Malayalam from?" Ram and Rana tried to give her a hint. Kiara was unsure of the response. At last, Ram said, "Kerala." "Right, right, Kerala," Kiara exclaimed. "I was about to say it," she added.

The medical bulletin from Apollo Hospitals confirmed that the 73-year-old actor was stable and responding well to treatment. Doctors expect him to be discharged within two days.

Rajinikanth was admitted to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai on September 30 due to a swelling in the aorta, the major blood vessel leading from the heart, which was successfully treated through a non-invasive, transcatheter procedure.

"Senior interventional cardiologist Dr Sai Satish placed a stent in the Aorta completely sealing off the swelling (Endovascular repair)," Dr R K Venkatasalam, Director, Medical Services, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, said in the bulletin.

He further said, "we would like to let his well-wishers and fans know that the procedure went as planned. Mr Rajinikanth is stable and is doing well. He should be at home in two days."

Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian confirmed that superstar Rajinikanth's health condition was stable.

The minister stated that he had been in regular contact with hospital authorities since the actor's admission and had spoken with the doctors again that morning to get an update on his condition.

"We enquired with the in-charge at the hospital. They said since Rajini was a big celebrity he was asked to get admitted in the night for a periodic check-up," Subramanian said.

Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi said in a post on the social media platform X: "I stand with the millions of devoted fans of Thiru Rajnikanth around the globe, in praying for his swift and smooth recovery."

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin extended his wishes for a speedy recovery to superstar Rajinikanth, as numerous fans took to social media to express their prayers and well-wishes for the actor's quick recovery.

Several political figures also shared their support, including AIADMK chief and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami, PMK president Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam founder TTV Dhinakaran, Makkal Neethi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan, and actor-politician Vijay.

Meanwhile, the actor's upcoming film, Vettaiyan, is set to release on October 10. The cast features Amitabh Bachchan, Fahad Fazil, Manju Warrier, and Rana Daggubati, and it is directed by T.J. Gnanavel, known for his work on Jai Bhim.

Rajinikanth's tribute to Amitabh Bachchan 

Rajinikanth said, “When Amit ji was producing films he broke into a big loss. He was not even able to pay his watchman. His Juhu home came into Public Bidding. The whole Bollywood was laughing at him… The world will just wait for your downfall. In three years, he did all the ads, KBC earned all the money, and bought back three homes along with the Juhu home on the same street. He is such an inspiration. He is 82-years-old, and he is working for 10 hours a day.”

“Amitabh ji's father is a great writer. He could have done anything for the influence he had. But without family influence, he came to a career alone… Once Amitabh ji had a terrible accident. At that time, Indira Gandhi had gone to a conference abroad. When she came to know about the accident, she immediately came to India. Only then did everyone know that Rajiv Gandhi and Amitabh ji had studied together," he added.

In the film, Rajinikanth plays an encounter expert who has a knack for confronting extremely dangerous opponents, while Amitabh Bachchan plays his senior, Sathyadev, who disagrees with his methods of dealing with criminals.

About Vettaiyan 

In Vettaiyan, Amitabh plays Sathyadev. The name of Rajinikanth's role has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, Ritika Singh stars as Roopa, Dushara Vijayan as Saranya, Manju Warrier as Thara, Rana Daggubati as Natraj, and Fahadh Faasil as Patrick.

This will be Amitabh Bachchan's Telugu debut while also marking Rajinikanth's 170th film. Vettaiyan will be released on October 10 on Dusshera.
