Bhooth Bangla OTT Release Update

Akshay Kumar's horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla was released amidst the buzz of Ranveer Singh's film, Dhurandhar 2. The film has received mixed reviews from both audiences and critics. So, is Bhooth Bangla any good?

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh reviewed Bhooth Bangla and gave it a 3.5/5 rating. He said the film reminded him of the 1979 cult horror classic, 'Jaani Dushman', directed by Rajkumar Kohli. He pointed out that the plot of targeting newly-wed brides is similar, but the story and treatment are very different. According to him, the first half is a fun horror-comedy, while the second half gets a bit dark. Overall, he felt that the hit jodi of Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar has delivered again.

According to the same report, 'Bhooth Bangla' collected approximately ₹3.32 crore from first-day advance bookings. The average ticket price was ₹213. These earnings figures exclude blocked seats. If blocked seats are included, the collection rises to ₹6.8 crore.

Before its official release on April 17, 2026, paid previews of the film were held from 9 PM on April 16, 2026. According to reports, the film collected an estimated ₹2.75 crore to ₹3 crore from these preview shows.

According to a Pinkvilla report, over 40,000 tickets for the Priyadarshan-directed 'Bhooth Bangla' were sold for paid previews in top national cinema chains PVR Inox and Cinepolis alone. It is believed that the film earned significantly due to these massive ticket sales.

Director Ali Abbas Zafar's action film hit theatres on 10 April 2024. Made with a huge budget of about ₹350 crore, the film only managed to collect around ₹65 crore in India. The actor recalled how a few months ago, his daughter, while playing an online video game, was approached by an unknown person who asked her to send pictures of herself.

The Bollywood actor recounted the experience in his address to the inaugural ceremony of of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 at the State Police Headquarters in Mumbai held today.

"I want to tell you all a small incident which happened at my house a few months back. My daughter was playing a video game, and there are some video games that you can play with someone. You are playing with an unknown stranger," Akshay said. 

" While you are playing, sometimes a message comes from there...Then a message came, Are you male or female? So she replied female. And then he sent a message. Can you send me nude pictures of yours? It was my daughter. She switched off the whole thing and she went and told my wife. This is how things begin. This is also a part of cybercrime... I would request the Chief Minister that in our Maharashtra state, every week in the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth standards, there should be a period called cyber period where children should be explained about it. You all know that this crime is becoming bigger than street crime. It is very important to stop this crime...," Akshay revealed.

The 'Welcome' star also appealed to the government to include cyber education as a weekly subject for school students (7th-10th), so they can stay safe and informed in the fast-changing digital space.

Akshay joined Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Director General of Police (Maharashtra State), Rashmi Shukla, Iqbal Singh Chahal (IPS) and Rani Mukerji, among others, at the event.

"I have recently come across some AI-generated videos of a film trailer showing me in the role of Maharishi Valmiki. I want to clarify that all such videos are fake and created using AI. What's worse, some news channels decide to pick these up as 'news' without even verifying if these are real or morphed. In today's time, when misleading content is being produced at great speed through manipulative AI, I sincerely request media houses to verify and report only after authenticating the information," the actor added.

The 'Jolly LLB 3' star's reaction comes at a time when Bollywood celebrities like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Karan Johar have sought protection of their personality rights, including theur name, image, photographs, voice, and performances, from unauthorised use on digital platforms for commercial or personal gain.

At that time, the Delhi High Court came down heavily on the unauthorised use of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's name, image, and persona, noting that such misuse without consent not only caused financial detriment but also harmed her dignity and reputation.

On the work front, Akshay Kumar was recently seen in Subhash Kapoor-directed 'Jolly LLB 3', also starring Arshad Warsi.

The duo reprised their beloved characters as Jolly, locking horns in an intense court battle. The film also stars Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao, and Seema Biswas. Gajraj Rao plays the antagonist, while Seema Biswas portrays a grieving mother.

As per a sacnilk.com report, the film collected ₹0.18 crore in India on its first day. This earning is from the morning shows. The final numbers will be out by evening. In advance bookings, the film had earned ₹3.23 crore by 6 AM. With blocked seats, the movie's earnings reached ₹6.37 crore. According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the film will open with ₹13 to ₹15 crore. A significant jump in the film's earnings will be seen on Saturday. On Sunday, its earnings could reach up to ₹20 crore.

Can Jolly LLB 3 recover with word-of-mouth?

One point of relief for the makers is that Jolly LLB 3 is a courtroom drama-comedy, a genre that doesn’t heavily rely on high advance bookings or massive openings. It has the potential to perform well through positive word-of-mouth.
