Police said the driver lost control while travelling towards Allwyn Colony. No deaths or serious injuries were reported.

A speeding electric car went out of control in Hyderabad’s Kukatpally area on Wednesday afternoon, damaging several vehicles and causing panic on a busy road. The incident, which was captured on CCTV cameras, quickly went viral on social media after videos showed the car crashing into vehicles and roadside property within seconds.

According to police, the electric car was travelling from Vivekananda Nagar towards Allwyn Colony when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, reported The Hindu.

Kukatpally, Hyderabad, Telangana: An electric car allegedly speeding from Vivekananda Nagar Arch towards Alwyn Colony went out of control, collided with multiple cars and two-wheelers, and finally crashed into the Eruvaka Tiffin Center near Vivekananda Nagar. TVK's VS Babu won by 8,795 votes, ending Stalin’s long winning streak. Result reflects wider political shift with Vijay's TVK emerging as strong force. Outcome signals changing voter mood and could reshape Tamil Nadu's politics.

Tamil Nadu has witnessed a dramatic political moment. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has lost the Kolathur Assembly seat, ending his long winning streak. The defeat comes at a time when he was aiming to lead his party into a second straight term with what he called the “Dravidian model government 2.0”.

#WATCH | Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin arrives at the DMK HQ Anna Arivalayam in Chennai after losing the Kolathur constituency seat to TVK leader VS Babu. pic.twitter.com/j28ErHhxiY

— ANI (@ANI) May 4, 2026

Instead of moving towards another victory, the results have brought a major setback. The loss is not just personal but also political, as it signals a shift in voter mood across the state.

Kolathur defeat: a major turning point

Kolathur had been one of Stalin’s strongest seats for years. Since the constituency was formed in 2008 after delimitation, it had always been represented by him.

This time, however, things changed.

TVK candidate V. S. Babu defeated Stalin by a margin of 8,795 votes. According to data from the Election Commission of India, Babu secured 82,997 votes, while Stalin received 74,202 after 22 rounds of counting.

#WAYCJ | TVK leader VS Babu defeats Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin to win the Kolathur constituency seat in the state assembly elections 2026. pic.twitter.com/BM7HkFHURd

— ANI (@ANI) May 4, 2026

The result marks the first time Stalin will not represent Kolathur in the Assembly. It is also his first major electoral defeat in decades.

A confident campaign that fell short

Before the election, Stalin appeared confident. He hoped to achieve something his father, M. Karunanidhi, could not—leading the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to consecutive victories.

The idea of “Dravidian model 2.0” was central to his campaign. It aimed to build on welfare schemes, social justice, and inclusive governance.

However, the results show that this message did not fully connect with voters this time.

The rise of TVK changes the game

The biggest factor behind this shift has been the rise of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The party, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has made a powerful debut.

By evening trends, TVK had won 14 seats and was leading in 94 others. In comparison, the DMK was far behind, with only a few wins and limited leads.

This strong performance by a new party has disrupted the traditional political balance in Tamil Nadu.

A long political journey

Stalin’s defeat becomes more significant when seen against his long career.

Born in 1953, he entered politics at a young age. During the Emergency, he was detained under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA). Over the years, he built his position step by step within the DMK.

He first became an MLA in 1989 from Thousand Lights in Chennai. He went on to win multiple elections from the same seat in 1996, 2001 and 2006.

Later, he became Mayor of Chennai from 1996 to 2002. This role helped him gain administrative experience and public visibility.

From party leader to chief minister

After years of groundwork, Stalin took over the leadership of the DMK following the death of his father in 2018.

He then led the party to victory in the 2021 Assembly elections. That win brought the DMK back to power after 10 years.

Stalin was sworn in as Chief Minister on May 7, 2021. His government introduced several welfare schemes, including financial support for women, free bus travel for women, and education-focused initiatives like the breakfast scheme.

These policies formed the backbone of his governance model.

What went wrong this time

Despite his record, several factors appear to have worked against Stalin and the DMK:

1. Anti-incumbency

After five years in power, some voter fatigue may have set in.

2. Strong challenger

TVK emerged as a fresh option, especially for young voters looking for change.

3. Urban shift

TVK performed strongly in cities, including Chennai, where the DMK has traditionally been strong.

4. Changing voter mood

The election reflects a growing openness among voters to try new leadership.

A symbolic loss beyond numbers

Stalin’s defeat is not just about losing one seat. It carries deeper meaning.

Kolathur was closely linked to his political identity. Losing it sends a clear signal that even strong leaders are not immune to changing public opinion.

It also raises questions about the future direction of the DMK.

Actor power meets political reality

The rise of Vijay has added a new dimension to Tamil Nadu politics.

Like past leaders such as M. G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa, Vijay has turned film popularity into political strength.

His party’s success shows that emotional connection with people can translate into votes.

End of an era in sight?

For decades, Tamil Nadu politics has been dominated by the DMK and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. If current trends hold, this election could break that pattern.

It may lead to the first government outside these two major parties in nearly 50 years.

The final results are still being confirmed, but the message is already clear. Stalin’s plan for “Dravidian model 2.0” has faced a serious setback. At the same time, TVK’s rise signals the arrival of a new political force.

For the DMK, this is a moment to rethink strategy and reconnect with voters.

For Tamil Nadu, it may mark the beginning of a new political chapter.

(With inputs from agencies)

India is likely to receive widespread pre-monsoon rainfall between May 29 and June 5, bringing possible relief from severe heatwave conditions. The southwest monsoon is still delayed over Kerala due to weak cloud activity.

After days of intense heat across large parts of the country, India may finally get some relief as pre-monsoon rainfall is expected to spread across nearly 80 to 90 percent of the country between May 29 and June 5. The expected rain becomes important as the southwest monsoon has still not reached Kerala, even though the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted its arrival around May 26.

A great start to the monsoon season is expected, with widespread pre-monsoon thunderstorms covering almost 80-90% of the Indian subcontinent from May 29 to June 5. This much-awaited rainfall will help reduce the summer intensity while we wait for the monsoon to progress. Image:… pic.twitter.com/0yyPqRFVfM

— All India Weather (@allindiaweather) May 26, 2026

Weather experts said weak cloud activity over the south-central Arabian Sea has slowed the monsoon’s progress. A cyclonic circulation in the region has reduced moisture and weakened rain-bearing clouds near Kerala. However, conditions are likely to improve within the next two to three days.

For the monsoon to officially enter Kerala, at least 14 selected weather stations in the state must receive 2.5 mm rainfall for two continuous days. So far, those conditions have not been fully met.

Bear with the heat till tomorrow afternoon. According to its forecast maps, heavy rain activity is likely over south India, eastern states, the northeast and regions near the Bay of Bengal during the coming week.

The forecast is based on satellite observations along with oceanic and atmospheric data.

While rain may soon bring relief to many regions, severe heat continues to affect northwestern, central and eastern parts of India.

Uttar Pradesh’s Banda remained the hottest city in the country on Tuesday with a maximum temperature of 47.4°C.

Actor-politician Vijay’s party TVK has shocked Tamil Nadu by leading in over 100 seats in early election trends, challenging the dominance of DMK and AIADMK. Despite strong performance, Vijay has not appeared publicly, creating curiosity.

Tamil Nadu is witnessing one of its most unexpected election moments in decades. Actor-turned-politician Vijay has made a stunning debut through his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Early counting trends show the party leading in more than 100 seats in the 234-member Assembly.

The halfway mark needed to form a government is 118. TVK is moving close to that number, putting it in a strong position to emerge as the single-largest party. This has shaken the long-standing dominance of the two major Dravidian parties, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led by M. K. Stalin and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

While the political story is dramatic, another question is grabbing attention across the state: Where is Vijay, why hasn't he spoken anything yet?

As counting progressed through the day, TVK continued to show strong numbers. Reports indicated the party leading in around 107 to 109 seats at different stages. Vijay himself was ahead in constituencies like Tiruchirappalli (East) and Perambur by comfortable margins.

Yet, despite this strong performance, Vijay has not made any public appearance or statement. There has been no speech, no media interaction, and no visible celebration from him.

This silence has become the biggest talking point of the day.

While Vijay remains out of sight, his supporters are celebrating loudly.

At TVK offices in Chennai, party workers gathered in large numbers, waving flags and distributing sweets. The atmosphere is festive and full of energy.

At Vijay’s family home, celebrations have taken a unique turn. Videos show family members, including women and children, blowing whistles, matching the party’s 'Whistle Podu' symbol. The scene feels more like a film’s first-day show than a political event.

#WATCH | Tamil Nadu Elections 2026 | Family of TVK chief and actor Vijay blow whistles and celebrate at their residence, as the party continues its lead in the state. An astrologer also reportedly visited, which sparked curiosity and speculation among people. Some joked that they were checking the right time for a victory appearance.

Astrologer Radhan Pandit visited Thalapathy Vijay residence with a ceremonial shawl and gift, receiving a warm welcome inside. He made a bold prediction that Vijay’s party TVK, will form the government in #ElectionResult2026. #ThalapathyVijay pic.twitter.com/br2AzF0MBS

— Devanshu Mani Tripathi (@devanshu_mani) May 4, 2026

#WATCH | Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections | Visuals from outside the residence of TVK chief Vijay in Chennai. Counting of votes for all 234 Assembly constituencies of the state will begin at 8 AM today. pic.twitter.com/9uAs0hCKdf

— ANI (@ANI) May 4, 2026

Security around his house has been increased as the results started favouring TVK.

Still, by early afternoon, Vijay did not say anything on the counting or results.

తన ఇంటి ముందు అభిమానులకు అభివాదం చేసిన టీవీకే అధినేత విజయ్ #TVK #thalapathyvijay pic.twitter.com/srNrsBwFjf

— ShashanKTRS (@Shashanktrs8) May 4, 2026

Though he did make a brief appearance outside his house, he is yet to react to the counting day developments.

Vijay’s silence is not new. Since launching TVK in February 2024, he has stayed away from regular media interactions.

He has avoided press conferences and interviews. Instead, he has focused on large public rallies where he speaks directly to people.

This controlled approach has helped him avoid controversies and keep the spotlight on his message.

Now, even on one of the biggest days of his political career, he seems to be following the same strategy, waiting, watching, and speaking only at the right moment.

What if TVK falls short of majority?

Even though TVK is performing strongly, it may still fall slightly short of the 118-seat majority mark.

If that happens, the party could look for support from smaller parties. Current trends show smaller parties like the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Indian National Congress (INC), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading in a few seats.

Support from even a handful of these MLAs could help TVK form the government.

However, TVK leaders are confident. Party spokesperson Felix Gerald has claimed that the mandate is clear and that the party can form the government on its own.

If TVK forms the government, it would mark a historic moment for Tamil Nadu.

The state has largely been ruled by DMK and AIADMK since 1977. A victory for Vijay would break this pattern for the first time in nearly five decades.

This is why many are calling it a “silent revolution.”

From cinema to politics

Vijay’s success also challenges a long-held belief that film stars struggle in politics.

He now joins the list of successful actor-politicians like N. T. Rama Rao, M. G. Ramachandran, and J. Jayalalithaa.

His strong fan base seems to have turned into real political support.

Why Vijay’s silence matters

In today’s fast-paced media world, leaders usually react instantly. But Vijay’s silence stands out. There could be several reasons:

He may be waiting for official results from the Election Commission

He may want to avoid speaking too early and making wrong claims

He may be planning a carefully timed public appearance

Or he may simply be sticking to his low-profile style

This silence has built suspense. People are now waiting even more eagerly for his first statement.

Counting is still ongoing, and final results are yet to be declared. If trends continue, Vijay and TVK could form the next government in Tamil Nadu.

The next big moment will be his first public appearance or speech. That will set the tone for his political journey ahead.

For now, the state is watching closely not just the numbers, but the man behind them.

(With ANI inputs)

The first-time MLA from Radhakrishnan Nagar has now been given one of the most important positions in the state government, the Finance portfolio.

With the latest Cabinet expansion on May 21, the strength of the Tamil Nadu Ministry rose to 33 Ministers. While several senior leaders received key departments, Marie Wilson’s appointment as Finance Minister stood out because he entered electoral politics only recently and won his first election in 2026.

His rise from educationist to Finance Minister within a short period reflects the changing political landscape in Tamil Nadu under Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government.

Chief Minister Vijay retained major portfolios including Home, Police, Municipal Administration and Urban Water Supply.

He also took charge of Special Initiatives, Poverty Alleviation and Rural Indebtedness, departments earlier handled by Minister N. Anand.

Meanwhile, Marie Wilson was given responsibility for:

Finance Pensions and Pensionary Benefits Planning and Development

Reacting to the appointment, Wilson thanked both the Chief Minister and the people of RK Nagar for supporting him.

“I would like to thank the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for giving me this opportunity and to the RK Nagar constituency people for voting for me,” he said while speaking to ANI.

“I am looking forward to the portfolio and working for the people,” he added.

N Marie Wilson is an Indian politician and educationist from Tamil Nadu.

He is associated with the Jeppiaar group of educational institutions, one of the well-known private education groups in the state.

Wilson was born around 1979 and comes from Chennai. His father’s name is Nestore.

Before entering politics, Wilson built his career mainly in the education sector.

Academically, he holds a B.Tech degree and an MBA. He later completed a PhD in Management Science from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in 2012.

His educational background and administrative experience in institutions are believed to have played a role in his rise within TVK.

Entry into politics through TVK

Wilson officially joined TVK on June 9, 2025.

He joined the party along with several other notable names, including former IRS officer K.G. Arunraj, former judicial officer C. Subash and former MLAs R. Rajalakshmi, S. David Selvan and Dr. A. Sridharan.

His political entry also marked the first major electoral involvement of the Jeppiaar family in many years.

Earlier, Dr. Jeppiaar had contested the 1989 Tamil Nadu Assembly election from T Nagar under the Janaki faction, although he was not elected.

After joining TVK, Wilson quickly became active in party events and organisational work.

In November 2025, TVK chief Vijay addressed around 2,000 party workers at the Jeppiaar Institute of Technology campus during a closed-door meeting. The event gained attention because it was one of the party’s major internal meetings after the Karur stampede incident in September 2025.

Victory from RK Nagar

Wilson received his biggest political breakthrough when TVK announced him as the party’s candidate from Radhakrishnan Nagar during the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Dr.Marie Wilson RK.Nagar TVK vetpalar pic.twitter.com/DGX42mfe7T

— (@TVK_Dinshu) May 5, 2026

Polling took place on April 23, 2026.

On May 4, Wilson was declared elected after defeating sitting MLA J. John Ebenezer of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam by a margin of 49,668 votes.

He secured 97,800 votes in the constituency.

The victory was seen as significant because RK Nagar has remained one of Chennai’s politically important constituencies over the years.

Tamil Nadu witnessed one of its biggest political shifts in recent decades after actor-turned-politician Vijay led TVK to victory in the Assembly elections.

The party emerged as the single largest party by winning 108 seats, ending the long-standing political dominance of the DMK and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

During his swearing-in speech, Vijay described the result as the beginning of “a new era of real, secular and social justice.”

The Cabinet formation has since drawn national attention because of the inclusion of several first-time MLAs and younger faces.

Sengottaiyan gets Revenue portfolio

Apart from Marie Wilson, senior TVK leader KA Sengottaiyan was assigned the Revenue department.

His responsibilities include Revenue Administration, Disaster Management, Deputy Collectors, Boodhan, Gramadhan and Legislative Assembly matters.

The Cabinet also reassigned the Women Welfare portfolio.

K Jegadeshwari has now been designated Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment, taking over responsibilities that were earlier handled by the Chief Minister’s office.

Tamil Nadu gets dedicated AI ministry

One of the other major decisions by the Vijay government was the creation of a dedicated Artificial Intelligence portfolio.

TVK MLA Kumar R from Velachery was appointed Minister for Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology and Digital Services.

With this move, Tamil Nadu became the second Indian state after Kerala to create a separate AI ministry.

The decision reflects increasing focus among Indian states on digital governance and emerging technologies.

As Finance Minister, Marie Wilson will now handle one of the most challenging departments in the Tamil Nadu government.

He will oversee state finances, development planning and pension-related matters at a time when expectations from the new government remain extremely high.

For many observers, his appointment also signals Vijay’s attempt to bring professionals and educated administrators into governance alongside experienced political leaders.

Whether Wilson succeeds in the role will become clearer in the coming months, but his rise from educationist to Finance Minister has already made him one of the most closely watched faces in Tamil Nadu’s new political era.

(With inputs from agencies)

Polling for the 234-member Assembly was held on April 23. The results were announced on May 4.

In what many described as one of the biggest political surprises in recent years, TVK became the single-largest party. The party won 108 seats in its first election contest. This result drew strong attention across the state and country.

Vijay contested from two constituencies, Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East. He won in both places. Although TVK did not reach the majority mark of 118 seats, the party later received enough support to form the government. This allowed Vijay to become the Chief Minister.

Supporters said the sand art was a symbol of this major political achievement. The tribute also reflected the public attention around Vijay’s move from cinema into politics.

Sudarsan Pattnaik is a world-famous sand artist based in Puri, Odisha. He is known internationally for his creative sand sculptures. Over the years, he has received several awards and honours for his work.

His art has been displayed at major places, including the National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and New Delhi. Visitors have appreciated his detailed and meaningful creations. Pattnaik often uses his sand art to send social messages and celebrate important events.

His tribute to Vijay is one of his latest works that gained wide attention online.

The sand sculpture spread quickly across social media platforms. Many users shared the images and praised the design. Supporters of Vijay said the artwork was a proud moment for TVK.

The tribute came at a time when Vijay’s political journey was being widely discussed. His transition from a popular actor to a political leader has been closely followed. The sand art added to the celebrations after TVK’s strong electoral performance.

(With inputs from agencies)

Axis My India has predicted Vijay's TVK's stunning debut in Tamil Nadu, projecting 98-120 seats, close to majority mark. Poll places TVK neck-and-neck with ruling DMK alliance and far ahead of AIADMK-led bloc. Strong youth support, demand for change and Vijay's popularity have led to surge. If correct, TN may witness its biggest political shake-up.

Tamil Nadu could be heading towards one of its biggest political changes in decades. An Axis My India exit poll has predicted a stunning debut for actor-turned-politician Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The survey suggests TVK could win between 98 and 120 seats in the 234-member Assembly. That would put the party very close to the majority mark of 118 seats. If the prediction proves correct, TVK could become the state's biggest political story overnight.

Close fight with DMK

The ruling DMK-led alliance is projected to win between 92 and 110 seats. The AIADMK-led alliance is estimated at just 22 to 32 seats.

This means Tamil Nadu could see a three-cornered contest, with TVK emerging as a powerful new player.

TVK is also expected to secure around 35 per cent of the vote. That is almost equal to the DMK-led alliance. The AIADMK-BJP alliance is projected to get around 23 per cent.

Why this is historic

Axis My India chairman Pradeep Gupta compared Vijay's rise to that of legendary leaders MG Ramachandran in Tamil Nadu and NT Rama Rao in Andhra Pradesh.

That is a huge comparison.

Both MGR and NTR changed politics in their states soon after entering public life. Vijay now appears to be following a similar path.

For a party fighting its first election, these numbers are extraordinary.

Youth voters drive TVK's rise

One of the biggest reasons behind TVK's strong performance appears to be young voters.

According to the exit poll:

68 per cent of first-time voters aged 18 to 19 backed TVK

59 per cent of voters aged 20 to 29 supported the party

45 per cent of those aged 30 to 39 also favoured Vijay

This shows TVK has become the top choice among younger voters, especially students, unemployed youth and urban residents.

The demand for change

Many voters seem to want a fresh alternative. Around 35 per cent of all voters said "change" was the main reason behind their choice.

Among TVK supporters, that number rises sharply to 77 per cent.

Vijay's personal popularity has also played a major role. Many voters said they supported the party because of him.

Support across communities

TVK's appeal is not limited to one section of society. The exit poll shows the party has gained support among OBC communities, Scheduled Castes, minority groups, urban voters and rural residents.

That broad support is one reason why TVK has performed so strongly across the state.

While its biggest strength is in cities, the party has also made significant gains in villages and smaller towns.

Vijay edges ahead in CM race

The survey also shows a tight race for the chief minister's post. Vijay is the preferred choice of 37 per cent of voters.

Chief Minister MK Stalin is just behind at 35 per cent.

For a first-time candidate, this is a remarkable achievement.

What the exit poll means for Tamil Nadu

If these projections are accurate, Tamil Nadu's traditional two-party system could be changing. For decades, the main battle was between the DMK and AIADMK.

Now, TVK has emerged as a serious challenger.

It could become the largest party, play kingmaker in a hung Assembly, or establish itself as a long-term political force.

A note of caution: Exit polls are only predictions. They can sometimes be wrong. Tamil Nadu has often surprised pollsters in the past.

In fact, other surveys have painted a very different picture.

People's Pulse has projected the DMK-led alliance to win 125 to 145 seats. It estimates TVK at only 18 to 24 seats.

The Matrize poll also puts the DMK alliance ahead with 122 to 132 seats, while TVK is projected to win just 10 to 12 seats.

Even if the final result differs, one thing is clear. Vijay is no longer just a film star entering politics. He is now at the centre of Tamil Nadu's political battle.

Whether he forms the government or not, TVK has already changed the conversation.

Tamil Nadu politics may never be the same again.

The post quickly went viral and attracted hundreds of reactions from people across the country.

Many users defend the vendor and rava dosa style

While some viewers agreed with the criticism, a large number of users defended the vendor and said the preparation shown in the clip was normal for rava dosa.

Several people pointed out that rava dosa batter is usually thin and spread differently from regular dosa batter.

One user wrote, 'Rava dosa is made like this'.

Another person said, “This is how crispy OG rava dosa can be made. Far better than making cheese khichdi on dosa.”

Nothing blasphemy about this. Far better than making cheese kichidi on dosa. Others said gloves should be compulsory for street food vendors.

One user wrote, “Totally unhygienic.”

Another commented, “Won’t feel like eating anything that’s coming out of a plastic mug.”

A user said hygiene and aesthetics matter and explained why he avoids eating street food.

Others, however, argued that small vendors should not be attacked online over normal cooking practices.

One user said, “Have some respect and empathy towards small vendors.”

Another added that the post looked like “bait” made only to attract attention and online arguments.

Debate over food and social media reactions

The viral discussion also turned into a larger debate about food culture, regional tastes and social media outrage.

Some users joked about how dosa has become “the most abused food” because of modern experiments involving cheese, sauces, chocolates and fizzy drinks.

Others argued that traditional foods evolve over time and that street vendors often create new versions based on local tastes.

The discussion also highlighted how strongly people feel about regional dishes like dosa, especially when questions about authenticity are raised online.

The disturbing clip allegedly shows Shivaji beating Meenakshi with a belt while she appears to be tied up.

In the video, Meenakshi can reportedly be heard crying in pain and begging while their child cries nearby.

According to police, the video was old and was allegedly recorded earlier by one of Meenakshi’s relatives. However, it was never made public at the time because family members from both sides reportedly intervened and reached a compromise.

Police said Shivaji had allegedly promised during that time that he would stop assaulting her. But according to the complaint filed by Meenakshi’s family, the abuse and harassment continued even after that.

Police waiting for post-mortem report

Thirumalayapalem Police Station Inspector V Srinivas said police were waiting for the post-mortem report to confirm the exact cause of death.

“He definitely beat her up. We have brought him to the police station for questioning. We will modify the FIR once the post-mortem reveals if it is suicide or murder,” the officer said.

Earlier reports claimed Shivaji was absconding after the incident, but police later confirmed that he had been detained for questioning.

The investigation is continuing, and police are expected to decide further charges after receiving the medical report.

A special Pocso court in Tamil Nadu’s Tuticorin district has awarded a double death sentence to a 38-year-old man for the rape and murder of a 17-year-old girl. The verdict came just 75 days after the crime shocked the state. The court relied heavily on scientific evidence, including DNA reports and CCTV footage captured near a windmill farm, to convict the accused, identified as Dharmamuneeswaran, according to a report by the Times of India.

The judgment was delivered by Sessions Judge M Breetha on Monday after a fast-paced trial that concluded within eight weeks.

Girl Was Attacked After Leaving Home

According to investigators, the teenage girl had stepped out of her house in Vedanatham village on the evening of March 10 to answer nature’s call when she was attacked.

Police said Dharmamuneeswaran intercepted the girl, raped her and later murdered her before fleeing the area.

The case initially appeared difficult to solve as there were no direct witnesses or immediate clues linking anyone to the crime.

Windmill CCTV Became Major Breakthrough

Investigators later found a key lead through CCTV footage from a camera installed near a windmill farm close to the crime scene. Police analysed nearly 1,000 hours of footage collected from different locations between Vedanatham village and Tuticorin town. The footage showed the accused entering the village on a motorcycle around 2.30 pm on March 10 and leaving the next morning around 6.30 am.

Officials identified him through a checked shirt visible in the footage and tracked his movements further towards Tuticorin.

Police also found that the accused had switched off his mobile phone after entering the village. The phone became active again in Tuticorin shortly after he was seen leaving in the CCTV footage, helping police establish a timeline of events.

DNA Evidence Strengthened the Case

Forensic evidence played a major role in securing the conviction. According to police, blood samples found on the shirt worn by the accused matched the victim’s blood group. Semen samples collected during the post-mortem examination were also matched to the accused through DNA testing, the TOI report added.

Inspector General of Police Vijayendra S Bidari said the investigation was solved mainly through scientific evidence.

He described the DNA match as the “clinching proof” that helped police crack what was initially considered a blind case.

Stolen Bike and Previous Criminal History

Investigators also tracked the motorcycle used by the accused during the crime. Police said Dharmamuneeswaran had stolen the bike from Ramanathapuram district and later changed its number plate to avoid being caught.

Officials claimed the accused had visited the village several times earlier and had studied entry and exit routes before carrying out the crime.

Police records showed that the accused had earlier received a life sentence in a similar case, though the punishment had later been suspended by a local court.

The chargesheet in the case was filed within 21 days, while the trial began on May 5. A total of 17 witnesses were examined during the proceedings.

Special Public Prosecutor V Ellammal Kissinger said the court considered the accused’s criminal background before awarding the double death sentence.

Despite this, his films are popular in Hindi through dubbing and remakes. TVK has performed strongly in Tamil Nadu, bringing him national attention. His journey shows how regional stardom and strong local connection can lead to cinematic success, political rise.

Vijay is one of the biggest stars in South Indian cinema. With a huge fan following and many hit films, he is often seen as a 'mega star' in Tamil Nadu. But one thing stands out in his career, he has almost no presence in Hindi cinema. At a time when many South Indian actors are working in Bollywood or becoming pan-India stars, Thalapathy Vijay has largely stayed away.

A rare appearance in Hindi cinema

Vijay’s only known appearance in a Hindi film was a short cameo in the 2012 movie Rowdy Rathore. He appeared briefly in the song 'Chinta Ta Chita Chita' alongside Akshay Kumar and Prabhu Deva. His role lasted less than a minute, and he was introduced as a 'superstar' in the song.

Apart from this, Vijay has not acted in any full Hindi film.

Hindi audiences still know his films

Even though he has not worked in Bollywood, many of Vijay’s Tamil films are popular among Hindi-speaking audiences. Movies like Master, Mersal, Leo and Bigil have been dubbed in Hindi. They are widely watched on television and streaming platforms with subtitles.

This has helped Vijay build a strong fan base outside Tamil Nadu without working directly in Hindi films.

His stories reached Bollywood in another way

Several of Vijay’s hit films have been remade in Hindi.

For example, Varun Dhawan’s film Baby John is based on Vijay’s Theri. Similarly, Akshay Kumar’s Holiday was adapted from Vijay’s Thuppakki.

This shows that while Vijay stayed away from Bollywood, his stories still made their way into Hindi cinema.

Inspired by Bollywood, but stayed local

Vijay has also taken inspiration from Hindi films.

He acted in Nanban, the Tamil remake of 3 Idiots, where he played the role originally done by Aamir Khan. However, instead of moving to Bollywood, he chose to stay focused on Tamil cinema (Kollywood), where he already had a strong position.

Different from other South stars

Many South Indian actors have tried to expand into Hindi cinema. Stars like Vijay Sethupathi, Allu Arjun, Vijay Deverakonda, as well as legends like Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, have either worked in Hindi films or built a national image.

Vijay, however, seemed comfortable being a superstar in Tamil cinema alone. His focus remained on connecting deeply with his local audience.

From cinema to politics

Now, Vijay’s journey has taken a major turn. His party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has made a strong debut in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

According to recent trends, TVK has won several seats and is leading in many others in the 234-member Assembly. The party is close to the majority mark of 118 and may need support from smaller parties.

This performance has brought Vijay into national attention, not as an actor, but as a political leader.

Support from film industry

Many film personalities have congratulated Vijay on his political success. Director A. R. Murugadoss praised him for moving from cinema to public life. Actor Vishal called his debut “phenomenal” and compared it to a major political wave.

Actor Raghava Lawrence also shared his wishes, calling Vijay’s achievement historic.

Following a familiar path

With this success, Vijay joins a group of actor-politicians like N. T. Rama Rao, M. G. Ramachandran, and J. Jayalalithaa.

Like them, he has turned film popularity into political support.

What his journey shows

Vijay’s career shows that success does not always require going national. By focusing on Tamil cinema, he built a strong and loyal fan base. Now, that support seems to be helping him in politics.

His story is different from many others and that is what makes it stand

(With inputs from agencies)

The young Bharatanatyam artist from Karnataka's Udupi district entered the Golden Book of World Records after performing continuously for 216 hours.

Her historic performance began on August 21, 2025, at 3.30 pm and ended successfully on August 30 at 3.30 pm. Apart from these short breaks, she danced continuously while facing physical tiredness, mental pressure and lack of sleep.
    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by __Om__❤️✨ (@omkar_dg)

Despite the difficult conditions, she completed the full 216 hours and earned official recognition from the Golden Book of World Records.

Her achievement was widely praised across Karnataka. Several people, including political leaders and art lovers, congratulated her for bringing pride to the state.

Deputy Chief Minister D. K. She comes from a simple family with limited financial resources.

Her father, Vitthal, worked as a school bus driver, while her mother, Shubha, worked as a hostel helper. In interviews, Deeksha shared that her family often faced money problems while she was growing up.

She said that in her village, even small daily items required travelling 10 to 15 kilometres to buy them.

Still, her parents supported her dream of learning Bharatanatyam.
    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by BHARATH RAJ NAYAK P (@munnamamavlogs)

According to Deeksha, her first dance class fee was reportedly only Rs 75. Even during financial difficulties, her parents managed to pay the amount so she could begin learning classical dance.

Deeksha has often spoken about the important role her mother played in her journey.

She said her mother always wanted to become an artist herself, but poverty and social pressure stopped her from following that dream. Instead, she encouraged Deeksha to enter the world of dance.

When Deeksha was around three years old, her mother took her to her first Bharatanatyam class. At that time, the teacher reportedly felt she was too young to join.
    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Get Set Udupi (@getsetudupi)

But the little girl quietly stood at the back of the room and copied the older students during practice sessions. That became the beginning of her long journey in Bharatanatyam.

As she grew older, Deeksha continued training and slowly built her identity in the field through years of hard work and struggle.

Dreams beyond records

Even after achieving a world record, Deeksha says her biggest dream is still ahead.

In interviews, she said she wants to open an academy where children from poor families can learn art forms like Bharatanatyam free of cost.

She believes no child should be forced to leave their passion because of financial problems.

Her story is now inspiring many young people across India, especially students from ordinary families who dream of achieving something big through dedication and hard work.

Vidushi Deeksha’s 216-hour Bharatanatyam performance is not only a personal achievement but also a proud cultural moment for Karnataka.

Her journey from a financially struggling family in rural Udupi to the world record stage has touched many hearts.

Others demanded that police increase monitoring on ORR and use cameras more effectively.

There were also calls for stronger rules, including blocking vehicles with pending challans from entering the ORR. A few users even demanded lifetime restrictions on the driver.

Concerns about road safety

ORR is a high-speed expressway, and accidents at such speeds can be very serious. Several users pointed out that any mistake at 100+ kmph could cause severe injury or death, especially when children are not seated safely.

Road safety experts and the public have repeatedly warned that children must always be seated properly inside the vehicle, using seat belts or child safety seats. Carrying passengers in the boot is extremely dangerous and against traffic safety norms.

Police response

After the video went viral, police authorities responded publicly. They stated that the issue has been noted and will be verified. Officials said carrying passengers, especially children, in the boot of a moving vehicle is highly dangerous and puts lives at serious risk.

They added that necessary action will be taken according to traffic and road safety regulations. Police also urged all motorists to prioritise safety and follow rules while driving.

Growing demand for strict enforcement

The incident has renewed public discussion about speeding, monitoring on expressways, and stricter penalties. Many users have asked authorities to take immediate and strong action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Hyderabad Mail (@hyderabadmail)

The video continues to circulate online, and people are waiting for official confirmation and further updates from the concerned authorities.

The alliance, called “Mission 2029”, aims to continue long-term.

In a major political development in Tamil Nadu, the Indian National Congress has decided to walk out of its long-standing alliance with the DMK. The party has now extended its support to actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). This move comes after the recent Assembly election results, where TVK emerged as the single largest party but did not reach the majority mark on its own.

The President of Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Thiru C Vijay, has formally requested the Indian National Congress (INC) to extend its support for forming a government in Tamil Nadu. The people of Tamil Nadu, especially the youth, have delivered a very clear, strong and… pic.twitter.com/Aig79MoRoE

— Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (@INCTamilNadu) May 6, 2026

Support for forming government

Congress has agreed to support TVK in forming the next government in the state. The party, which has won five seats, said its MLAs will back TVK to help it reach the required numbers.

In a formal letter, Congress confirmed that Vijay had requested their support. The party said the people of Tamil Nadu have given a clear message in favour of a secular and welfare-focused government.

The Congress also plans to send a letter to the Governor to officially confirm its support.

Condition on 'communal forces'

Congress has placed one key condition for this alliance. It has asked TVK to keep away any 'communal forces' that do not believe in the Constitution of India.

The party said this condition is important to ensure that the government follows constitutional values and works for all sections of society.

Congress leaders said this partnership is based on shared ideas of social justice, equality, and development.

Long-term alliance plan

Congress has made it clear that this is not just a short-term arrangement. The party said its alliance with TVK will continue for future elections, including local body polls, Assembly elections, and even national elections.

In Tamil Nadu, the Congress is calling this strategy its 'Mission 2029'. The aim is to build a strong and stable political partnership over the coming years.

Leaders speak on alliance goals

Congress leader Praveen Chakravarthy said the goal of this alliance is to “bring back Kamaraj rule” in the state. This refers to the period of former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj, known for development and welfare policies.

In its official statement, Congress also mentioned the ideals of Periyar and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The party said the alliance will work to promote social justice and constitutional values.

Meetings and next steps

Congress leaders are expected to visit TVK’s headquarters in Panaiyur soon to meet Vijay and discuss the next steps.

Both parties are likely to finalise their plans for forming the government and running it smoothly with joint support.

No alliance with AIADMK

There were reports that a section of the AIADMK was interested in joining hands with TVK. However, TVK General Secretary Arunraj has denied these claims.

He clearly said that TVK has no plans to form an alliance with the AIADMK.

Political impact in Tamil Nadu

This sudden shift has changed the political scene in Tamil Nadu. The exit of Congress is a big setback for the DMK, while it gives a strong boost to Vijay’s TVK.

With Congress support, TVK now has a better chance of forming the government. The coming days will be crucial as both parties move forward with their alliance.
