Konni: Imagine stepping out of your house early in the morning only to find a giant python coiled up on your car’s bonnet. That is exactly what happened to Samuvelkutty at his residence in Muthupezhunkal Kallumpurath, Konni. He noticed the massive snake resting calmly on his car, which was parked inside the courtyard. Shocked by the sight, he did not waste any time and immediately informed the Forest Department’s Rapid Response Team (RRT).

The Konni RRT team quickly reached the location and began a careful rescue operation. After considerable effort and caution, the team successfully captured the python without causing harm to the animal or danger to residents. The snake was later safely transported and released back into its natural forest habitat.

According to local residents, python sightings have become increasingly frequent in Konni and nearby regions. This is not an isolated incident. Residents believe that snakes are entering human settlements more often due to habitat disturbance and proximity to forest areas. As a result, fear and caution have increased among families, especially during early morning and late evening hours.

Forest officials have urged the public not to panic and to immediately inform authorities in case of such sightings. They also assured that rescue teams are actively monitoring the region and responding quickly to all reports. While the python was safely released, the growing number of such incidents continues to raise concern among locals living near forest boundaries in Konni.

The minister clarified that Dearness Allowance (DA) was not on the agenda for Monday's meeting, but it will be discussed later. The 7th Pay Commission's main feature is the pay matrix, which will close the huge salary gap between state and central government employees.

The 7th Pay Commission uses a 2.57 fitment factor. This means an employee's basic pay will increase by 2.57 times. For example, a basic salary of Rs 20,000 will become Rs 51,400. The new pay commission will help align DA with the All India Consumer Price Index. Employees can also expect a hike in House Rent Allowance, Travel Allowance, and Medical Allowance.

A major road accident was reported from Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh early on Monday morning. A truck collided head-on with a 'Magic' passenger van, killing 10 people on the spot. Two others were injured in the crash. A crowd gathered at the scene immediately after the accident. The police, with help from locals, started the rescue work. They managed to pull out two young men alive and rushed them to the hospital. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his grief over the accident and offered condolences to the families of the deceased. He has also directed officials to reach the spot immediately.

How the accident happened in Lakhimpur

The accident reportedly took place around 7:30 AM on Monday in Lakhimpur Kheri. According to locals, the 'Magic' van was travelling from Lakhimpur towards Sisaiya. A speeding truck coming from the Bahraich side hit it head-on. The impact caused the van to lose control, and it overturned on the side of the road. The truck driver abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene. If the truck's speed had been lower, perhaps people might have survived the collision.

'Skulls were split, faces were torn'

Onlookers said the truck hit the 'Magic' van with such force that it was thrown about 10 feet away. The passengers inside suffered horrific injuries. Some had their skulls split open, while others were impaled by iron rods from the vehicle's frame. One young man's face was so badly disfigured that people had to look away. The victims died almost instantly, without a moment to react. With the help of locals, the police had to struggle to pull the bodies out from the mangled seats. The road was covered in blood, and the 'Magic' van was completely destroyed.

CM Yogi calls the accident 'extremely sad and heart-wrenching'

Expressing his sorrow over the incident, CM Yogi said, "The loss of life in the unfortunate road accident in Lakhimpur Kheri district is extremely sad and heart-wrenching."

We often hear of people owning cars, buses, or jets, but a train? A farmer from Punjab reportedly ended up as the “owner” of a train due to a surprising Indian Railways blunder. Here’s what actually happened in this bizarre case.

Sampuran Singh, a farmer from Katana village in Punjab's Ludhiana district, became the owner of the famous Swarna Shatabdi Express. In India, we all know trains are government property. But for the first time, a train went into the hands of a farmer. This surprising incident happened in 2007. The Railway department acquired Sampuran Singh's land for the Ludhiana-Chandigarh railway line. They gave him a compensation of about Rs 25 lakh per acre. However, Singh found out that other farmers in the same area received up to Rs 71 lakh per acre. Feeling cheated, he decided to take the matter to court.

After hearing the case, the court agreed with Sampuran Singh's argument. It significantly increased his compensation, ordering the Railways to pay him about Rs 1.47 crore per acre. But the Railway department failed to pay the full amount. They paid a small portion and held back the rest. So, the farmer went back to court. This time, the court gave a sensational verdict. It ordered the seizure of the Swarna Shatabdi Express until the Railways paid the dues. This meant the train now belonged to Sampuran Singh! The court also attached the Ludhiana railway station master's office to the seizure, putting it in the farmer's hands too.

Sampuran Singh took the court order and went to the Ludhiana railway station with his lawyer. He handed over the court's papers to the officials and became the train's legal owner. Until the Railways paid him back, he had the right to keep the train stationary. However, the train was already full of passengers. Thinking about their inconvenience, the farmer stopped the train for only a few hours. After a discussion with railway officials, he allowed the train to leave. The incident created a huge stir across the country at the time.

After this incident, the Railway department paid some more money to Sampuran Singh. Finally, in May 2017, the court lifted the seizure order on the Swarna Shatabdi Express. Technically, until that day, Sampuran Singh was still the train's owner. In 2017, the train officially went back under the full control of the Railways. This episode remains a rare chapter in Indian Railways' history. The case proved how seriously the court can act if farmers' issues are ignored. Sampuran Singh is still remembered as the only man in India to have ever owned a train.

He posted on Instagram about how he accepted an invitation from a social media follower to stay at his house, only to be threatened for rent money later. He warned other travellers that this was one of the worst experiences of his solo travels and advised them not to stay in strangers' homes.

Gautam was in Berlin and planning to visit Prague when a follower messaged him. The follower told Gautam to come to Munich instead and offered him a place to stay at his home. Gautam accepted the invitation, thinking he could stay there and also visit Austria.

"He didn't even ask me if I wanted water to drink, forget about food," Gautam said. Because of this, Gautam spent the entire day roaming outside and only came back to the house at night to sleep. He decided to stay one more day because he was having severe pain in his leg. The next day, as he was leaving early in the morning to catch a train, the follower stopped him and demanded 30 Euros (about ₹3,346) as rent. The follower's argument was, "Wouldn't you have had to pay money at a hostel anyway?" Gautam refused to pay, saying that he hadn't asked to stay, but was invited. After this, the follower apparently started sending threatening messages, demanding money for using the room, for coffee, and for the internet. Gautam wrote that this was the first big lesson he learned on his solo travels.

A massive legal battle is brewing between two of India's biggest media players, JioStar and Zee Entertainment. The fight is over the broadcasting rights of several blockbuster Bollywood movies.

JioStar, the new media giant from the Reliance-Disney partnership, has accused Zee TV of illegally showing several Bollywood movies for which they hold the rights. Reuters was the first to report this.

On May 4, JioStar filed a case with the Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee. Their complaint is that Zee aired 12 of their movies nearly 20 times last year without any permission. We're talking about some major blockbusters starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Amitabh Bachchan. Aamir Khan's superhit 'Dangal' and classics like 'Deewar' and 'Tridev' are on this list.

A ₹250 crore compensation claim?

JioStar is not holding back. In its 120-page petition, it has called Zee a 'Habitual Infringer'. Sources in the industry say JioStar could demand a massive compensation of over ₹250 crore for this copyright violation. Zee Group, on their part, claims they got the necessary permissions from the production companies for some of the films.

For now, the case is with the Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee. If they can't sort it out through mediation, the matter will go to a full court hearing. Zee Entertainment has been asked to show up before the committee on May 25.

Clash of the Media Titans

This isn't the first time these two giants are locking horns. They are already fighting a $1 billion (that's about ₹8,300 crore!) legal case in London over a failed cricket broadcasting deal. And just this April, Zee Group had sued JioStar for $3 million, saying they used their songs without permission. So, this latest move by JioStar looks like a direct counter-attack.

JioStar was formed in 2024 after Reliance and Walt Disney merged in a massive $8.5 billion deal, creating the country's biggest OTT platform. This new courtroom drama is a clear sign of the cut-throat competition in India's entertainment market, where companies are fighting hard to protect their content and stay on top.

Pepper Spray Case: Police Call Takes Shocking Turn, Man Gets Rs 50,000 Relief! Read Details

In a shocking case, the Human Rights Commission has ordered the government to pay Rs 50,000 to a man whose eyes were allegedly pepper-sprayed by a Sub-Inspector. The incident happened when the man was called to the police station just for texting his wife while their divorce case was going on in a family court.

Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas gave the order. He said the government must pay the compensation within two months. The order also states that the government can later recover this money from the SI according to the law.

If there's a delay in payment, an 8% interest will be charged. The commission has asked the State Police Chief and the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department to submit an action-taken report within two months.

This whole issue started on October 9, 2023, at the Chirayinkeezhu Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram. The complaint was filed by Sreenath, who lives in Chirayinkeezhu Kurakkada.

The commission first asked for an investigation report from the Thiruvananthapuram Rural District Police Chief. That report actually confirmed that the SI got 'provoked' during a conversation with Sreenath and sprayed some liquid on his face, causing a burning sensation in his eyes. However, the report claimed there was no proof of physical assault.

Not satisfied, the commission then handed over the investigation to its own team, led by a Superintendent of Police. During this probe, police witnesses said that Sreenath came out of the SI's room crying and was asking where the washbasin was. Sreenath also told doctors at the Medical College and an eye hospital that he was pepper-sprayed. The doctor who examined him noted that his eyes were red and said this could happen from a pepper spray attack.

The SI, however, has denied all these allegations. But based on the evidence, the report concluded that there was a 'serious lapse' on the SI's part. It was also mentioned that departmental disciplinary action has been initiated against him, and the Irinjalakuda DySP has been asked to conduct a verbal inquiry.

In his final order, Justice Alexander Thomas clearly stated that Sreenath's human rights were violated.

Cherthala: An elderly man has been found dead in his house in Kannampally, Thanneermukkom. The deceased has been identified as 64-year-old Lambodharan. He was found burnt to death.

Locals were the first to find his body on Wednesday morning. According to the Mararikulam Police, the body is about two days old. Lambodharan's body and the plastic-covered bed he was sleeping on were found in a charred condition.

Police believe it was a tragic accident. Power cuts are a regular problem in this area at night. They suspect that Lambodharan, who reportedly had some memory issues, might have lit a candle during a power outage and placed it under his bed. This likely caused the fire. Police have ruled out any foul play in his death. Lambodharan had been living alone for the past five years after his wife passed away. Neighbours said that his married daughter would visit him from time to time.

Thief entered temple around 2 AM

According to police sources, the accused entered the temple alone at around 2:00 AM.

Officials said the man first tried to open the hundi, or donation box, using his hands. However, when he failed to break it open, he allegedly used a trident kept near the deity inside the temple.

Police said the accused picked up the trishul and repeatedly struck the donation box until it broke open. After collecting the cash stored inside, he fled the temple premises.

The theft remained unnoticed for several hours.

Temple staff discovered broken hundi in morning

The incident came to light later in the morning when temple priests arrived to begin daily rituals and prayers.

Police have now registered a case and started an investigation.
