Thiruvananthapuram: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has accused the police of creating a 'reign of terror' at night in the homes of innocent people. This is all happening in connection with the case of an alleged attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials who had raided the house of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

In a press release, the DYFI's Thiruvananthapuram district committee said the police are crossing a line and must stop trying to frame innocent people in false cases. The youth wing claims that for the last three days, police have been showing up at people's houses at night and scaring them. They warned that if these illegal actions continue, they will launch a 'very strong protest'.

The DYFI's Thiruvananthapuram district committee strongly condemned the move to 'hunt down' young people who protested against the ED's 'anti-democratic' actions by slapping them with false cases. The statement said the police's actions are completely illegal. "DYFI workers' and leaders' homes are being entered to create a scary atmosphere. The police are crossing all limits, and this is just not acceptable," it said.

The organisation demanded that these actions stop immediately. The statement said that the police have already arrested and jailed 25 people, including DYFI district leaders and former leaders. "For the past three days, police have been creating terror in the homes of innocent people under the cover of darkness. They are specifically picking out and raiding the homes of DYFI leaders. They are even threatening cancer patients, other sick people, the elderly, children, and women in these houses," the release stated.

The DYFI also took a shot at V. D. Satheesan. They said that while the ED acts like the 'central government's hunting dogs' to go after top political leaders, Satheesan is acting like the ED's spokesperson, trying to justify these terrible acts. They claim he is doing this to get into Modi's good books.

The DYFI warned that if the police continue to illegally enter homes and create trouble, they will face massive protests. The case involves six people who work with two YouTube channels, 'Vismaya News' and 'Sree Vlog'.

The group was targeting the family of the main accused in a POCSO case that was already registered with the Adoor Police. They claimed that the police had found some videos on the accused's phone, and that they now had copies of those videos. The YouTubers threatened to broadcast these videos on their channels.

Ballari (May 31): The days of giving excuses for showing up late or bunking school seem to be over for government school teachers in Karnataka. They can no longer afford to be late or skip classes for random reasons.

The state's education department has introduced a new location and face-based attendance system for all primary and high school teachers this year. If a teacher is late beyond the set time, that day will be marked as a casual leave. For this, a new app called the Karnataka Advanced Attendance Management System (KAAMS) has been developed.

This new rule has been in effect across the state since Friday. From now on, government school teachers must check in twice a day using the app, which will verify their location and face. Parents and teachers who are sincere about their work have welcomed this move. The government also plans to bring in a similar AI-based attendance system for students within the next month.

An end to 'adjustments'

This move is expected to put an end to the 'adjustment' culture. Earlier, some teachers would get their attendance marked and draw a salary without even coming to school. Some would make arrangements with their headmasters, while others would be absent in the name of union activities. It was common for some teachers to rarely even show up at school.

Leaving early will also cause trouble

The education department has decided to take strict action against anyone who ignores this new tech-based attendance system. Checking out before the official school hours end will be considered an 'Early Departure'. This will be treated as a neglect of duty, and the teacher will lose half a day's leave.

If a teacher checks out too early, say in the afternoon, without prior permission, the second half of the day will be marked as a half-day casual leave (CL). If they have no CLs left, it will be converted to an earned leave (EL) or a leave without pay.

Notice from the BEO

Being late or leaving early three times in a month will lead to a deduction of one full day's casual leave. If a teacher repeatedly checks out early without any notice or permission, it will be considered an 'unauthorised absence'. The Block Education Officer (BEO) or the DDPI will issue a show-cause notice. This could also affect their service record and annual salary increments.

'Increase grace period to half an hour'

Teachers have a demand of their own. Currently, if a school starts at 9:45 AM, they are allowed to check in by 9:55 AM or 10:00 AM. However, many teachers find it difficult to reach remote villages on time due to poor transport facilities. They are requesting that this 15-minute grace period be extended to half an hour.

The theft occurred on May 24 at a residence in Anakallu. According to police, the trio was familiar with the house and its surroundings, which helped them plan the burglary carefully. They ensured that no one was at home before breaking in and even attempted to damage the CCTV camera installed at the property to avoid being identified.

In a shocking case from Thiruvananthapuram, a cricket coach has been sentenced to 16 years of rigorous imprisonment for molesting a minor girl. The court found Manu M, a resident of Sreevaraham in Vallakkadavu, guilty and also imposed a fine of ₹24,000 on him. What's more alarming is that there are six similar cases pending against the same coach.

The incident happened when the girl was in the seventh grade. She had joined a prominent cricket training centre in Thiruvananthapuram to pursue her passion. According to the case, the coach, Manu M, took her to the gym under the pretext of training and molested her there.

The complaint also states that he tried to force her to pose for nude photographs. When the girl refused, he allegedly denied her further training. Following this ordeal, she left the training centre. It was only four years later that she gathered the courage to file a police complaint.

Once the case was registered and the investigation began, more women came forward with similar complaints against the coach. In total, six cases have been filed against him. The verdict was delivered by the Thiruvananthapuram Fast Track Special Court Judge. The sentence includes 16 years of rigorous imprisonment under various sections of the law. However, the sentences will run concurrently, which means he will have to serve five years in jail. The court has also ordered that the fine amount of ₹24,000 must be given to the survivor as compensation.

Kagwad (May 31): In a deeply tragic and emotional incident, a daughter reportedly died of shock right in front of her deceased mother’s body. The woman has been identified as 76-year-old Hanamvva Ramu Mujagoni, a resident of Parthanahalli village in Athani taluk.

According to reports, Hanamvva’s mother, 101-year-old Gangavva Channabasappa Parthanahalli, passed away due to age-related age-related health issues on Friday. The elderly woman was a resident of Todalubagi village in Jamkhandi taluk of Bagalkote district. Upon receiving the news of her mother’s demise, Hanamvva, along with her children and family members, travelled to Todalubagi to attend the final rites.

However, what was meant to be a farewell turned into a heartbreaking double tragedy. Witnessing her mother’s lifeless body is said to have overwhelmed Hanamvva emotionally. She suddenly collapsed at the spot, reportedly due to severe shock, and could not be revived. She passed away right there, leaving her family and those present in utter disbelief and grief.

The incident has left the entire village and extended family in mourning, as two generations were lost within a short span of time. Locals described the moment as unimaginable and emotionally devastating for everyone present at the funeral.

Hanamvva was married and had settled in Parthanahalli village. She is survived by her three sons and a large extended family. Her last rites, along with her mother’s, were performed on Saturday as relatives gathered to bid a final farewell to both.

Police in West Bengal's Murshidabad district have arrested a family of five from Bangladesh for entering and living in India illegally. The arrests happened in the Dhumarpara area, which comes under the Sagardighi police station. The family members have been identified as Ujir Ali (43), his wife Jainur Khatun (36), and their three sons—Shihab Sheikh (15), Injamul Haque (10), and Abdul Samad Sheikh (4).

According to police sources, the family is originally from the Chapainawabganj district in Bangladesh. Police believe Ujir Ali crossed the border illegally about 13 years ago and settled down permanently in the Dhumarpara area.

The police said they caught the family during a raid in the locality, and the investigation is still going on. Ujir Ali used to work as a mason in South India. He had even bought land and built a house in Dhumarpara. It's also alleged that over the years, he managed to get Indian identity documents like a Voter Card and an Aadhaar card. The police arrested all five members, claiming they were living in the country using fake documents. They have now been sent to a holding centre. Police and administration officials said that once all the legal formalities are done, they will contact the BSF to have the family deported back to Bangladesh.

This isn't a one-off case. Just last month, police in Mallikpur, Baruipur, in the South 24 Parganas district, arrested two other Bangladeshi nationals. The arrested couple, Shafiqul Islam Molla and his wife Monira Begum, are from Bangladesh's Jessore district. They had apparently entered India illegally with the help of an agent and were living in Mallikpur.

In another incident, the Border Security Force (BSF) stopped an attempt by Bangladeshi nationals to enter India in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district. This happened in Sangarbari village, which is in the Khalishamari Gram Panchayat area of Sitalkuchi block.

Local residents said they saw a group of 10 to 11 Bangladeshi nationals gathering on the Bangladesh side of the border in the morning. They claimed the group then tried to cross into Indian territory. However, BSF jawans posted there acted quickly and blocked the illegal entry.

The gang mistakenly believed that Binu had won a Rs 15 lakh lottery and demanded he hand over the entire amount.
