In a video that has gone viral on social media, a man was seen walking through a market in Madhya Pradesh's Gaurihar wearing a kurta that appeared to be stitched from fabric clearly bearing 'Western Railway' markings. The garment did not seem to feature a similar-looking pattern by coincidence; instead, it appeared to be made by repurposing official railway bedsheet fabric.

As the Western Railway has been subjected to persistent, large-scale theft of passenger essential items from the AC coaches, the recent footage of the man sporting this improvised garment appeared to be evidence of the blatant disregard for public property.

Western Railway Bedsheet Turns Kurta

The blatant misuse of the Western Railway's property captured in this video highlights the growing audacity behind the stealing of items meant for public comfort. The footage was captured by a man who was following the individual in the market, questioning him about the origin of his clothing.

The man was seen casually walking through the market, buying vegetables, seemingly oblivious to, or unconcerned by, the fact that the 'Western Railway' branding was clearly visible on the back of his kurta. The person who recorded the video said he was initially shocked by the unusual outfit, while the man wearing it appeared aware that he was being filmed.

Unbothered by the scrutiny, the man calmly carried out his routine, seemingly indifferent to the cameras and the questions surrounding his unusual attire.

The video surfaced at a time when the Western Railway had reportedly lost 1.27 crore individual bedroll items, including face towels, bedsheets, pillow covers, blankets, and pillows, which were stolen from AC coaches across the country.

The theft in the train by the passengers has become a serious concern not only for Indian Railways but also for the staff, who are forced to bear the financial burden of missing items.

The 37.8-km corridor is one of the biggest Metro projects planned in Bengaluru. It will connect Hebbal to Sarjapur Road through the city's central business district.

The original DPR was submitted in June 2024 and approved by the Karnataka Cabinet in December the same year. However, the Union government asked Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to review the project and reduce its overall cost before granting final approval.

Following a review by international consultancy Systra, BMRCL prepared a revised DPR in February 2026 and submitted it to the Centre in April. Approval is expected around October this year.

The redesign has reduced the estimated cost from Rs 28,405 crore to Rs 25,999 crore. Even after the reduction, Phase 3A remains the most expensive Metro line planned in Bengaluru, with an estimated cost of Rs 706.49 crore per kilometre.

Several changes helped lower the budget. Underground station platforms have been shortened, station sizes reduced and parts of the alignment modified. The underground section has also been slightly shortened, although the total corridor length has increased from 36.58 km to 37.8 km.

The revised Bengaluru new Metro plan includes changes at several stations along the route.

The Dairy Circle interchange station has been redesigned, while the alignment between KR Circle and Bengaluru Golf Course has been adjusted to avoid an existing government building on Palace Road.

Koramangala 2nd Block station will be shifted 52 metres towards Hebbal. Town Hall, KR Circle, Bengaluru Golf Course, Palace Guttahalli and Mehkri Circle stations will also be moved slightly as part of the updated design.

At Palace Guttahalli, pocket tracks and turnouts have been added, and the station has been redesigned with side platforms.

Bengaluru's new Metro project includes several features aimed at improving passenger convenience.

A shocking murder case has emerged from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, where a woman and her lover have been arrested for allegedly using a poisonous snake to kill her husband in an attempt to claim a Rs 20 lakh insurance policy. The incident took place in the Hastinapur area during the early hours of Friday. The victim, 32-year-old Atul Panwar, was initially believed to have died after being bitten by a snake while sleeping at home.

His wife, 30-year-old Damini Panwar, claimed she found him unconscious when she returned to the room early in the morning. She also told police she saw a snake on the bed and raised an alarm. The reptile was later killed by local residents.

Police investigation exposed the alleged conspiracy

The case took a different turn after investigators found a snakebite mark on Atul's right leg. His family expressed doubts over the incident and urged police to investigate further, according to a report by the Times of India.

According to Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey, Damini and Atul had married seven years ago and recently started a playschool. They had hired Tushar Kumar as the school's van driver, and police allege Damini later began an affair with him.

During the investigation, officers examined phone records and found frequent contact between Damini and Tushar, the TOI report added. Police also recovered photographs of a snake kept inside a box from Tushar's mobile phone, strengthening their suspicion.

Police say murder was planned for insurance money

Police alleged that Damini mixed sleeping pills into her husband's milk before he went to bed. After he became unconscious, she and Tushar allegedly released the poisonous snake onto the bed, where it bit Atul.

Investigators further claimed the pair had earlier tried to kill Atul by staging a road accident, but the attempt failed. They then allegedly planned the snake attack to make the death appear accidental.

Police said the main motive was to claim Atul's Rs 20 lakh insurance policy. Investigators also alleged that the two planned to marry after receiving the insurance money, with Tushar intending to divorce his wife.

Four arrested in the case

Apart from Damini and Tushar, police also arrested two snake charmers, identified as Sonu Kumar and Uday Kumar, for allegedly supplying the snake used in the crime.

An FIR has been registered under Sections 103(1) (murder) and 123 (causing hurt by means of poison or intoxication) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said further investigation into the case is continuing.

In viral footage recorded by the YouTuber, the elderly man was heard saying that he would level false allegations against him by tearing his own daughter's clothes and using the manufactured scene to ensure the YouTuber is jailed on sexual assault charges. The threat to an individual, despite the camera rolling, underscores the brazenness with which the man viewed his actions,

The man is believed to be a supporter of the ruling party at the centre and is seemingly opposing the ongoing protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over NEET-UG paper leaks and CBSE paper evaluation glitch.

Since the truck drivers often go through border areas where they remain vulnerable to harassment from unauthorized individuals, who set up illegal and makeshift checkpoints to extort money under the guise of official inspections.

In a video that went viral on social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), the footage captured how the truck driver confronted the individuals, demanding to know the authority under which they were collecting money and refusing to pay the bribe.

The video was captured at a time when the Madhya Pradesh Government abolished all interstate transport checkpoints on July 1, 2024, to curb corruption and modernize the system, but the status of these checkpoints has been a subject of intense legal scrutiny in 2026.

How Truck Driver Confronted the Alleged Extortionists?

The incident was reportedly captured in a video that went viral on social media around mid-July 2026, showcasing a truck driver confronting individuals who were operating a makeshift, unauthorized checkpoint on a highway

In the video, an individual who was dressed in an official police uniform was seen attempting a bribe of INR 200 from a truck driver in order to allow the vechile in order to allow the vehicle passage. As the truck driver began to film the entire incident and started questioning the legality of the collection, the individual, realising he was being recorded, quietly removed the barricade.

The individual’s attempt to evade accountability backfired as the driver continued to record the confrontation, capturing the man’s sudden shift from demanding payment to hurriedly dismantling the illegal barricade in an effort to avoid further scrutiny.

The unauthorized checkpoints in certain districts of Madhya Pradesh have become a significant point of contention and a source of widespread frustration for the transport community. These illicit setups exploit the logistical vulnerabilities of truck drivers by creating artificial bottlenecks on state borders.

Though checkpoints often serve the purpose of maintaining road safety, verifying vehicle documents, and ensuring compliance with transport regulations, the unauthorised and illicit setups pervert that objective by prioritizing the extraction of illegal fees over actual enforcement of legal mandates.

What Madhya Pradesh Government Has Done To Address This Issue?

Since the extortion of truck drivers by unauthorized individuals at makeshift checkpoints has become a persistent issue, the Madhya Pradesh Government’s approach has been defined by a complex shift in policy and ongoing judicial oversight.

On July 1, the government ordered the abolition of the checkpoints across the state in order to reduce corruption, streamline interstate freight movement, and modernize enforcement. The administration intended to replace these with a more transparent framework relying on mobile enforcement units and flying squads.

The Madhya Pradesh Government’s action against illegal checkposts came after the High Court ordered the state to restore all closed checkposts within 30 days, citing concerns that their absence had failed to adequately regulate overloaded vehicles and threatened road safety. However, the legal situation remained fluid as the High Court subsequently stayed its own order to revive these checkpoints in May 2026.

Additionally, the state authorities have been directed to maintain strict oversight, with the government reiterating its commitment to taking strict action against any complaints regarding the transport system to ensure that the new, transparent framework is not undermined by illicit activities.

To tackle Bengaluru's growing traffic congestion and improve road safety, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) have proposed a major new traffic management plan. The proposal focuses on reducing the number of heavy and medium-sized vehicles on city roads during the day. Under the draft plan, these vehicles, along with private buses, will be divided into five categories, with some facing restrictions of up to 14 hours every day.

Heavy Vehicles Divided into Five Categories

The proposed policy classifies vehicles into the following five groups::

Super heavy vehicles weighing over 16 tonnes.
Heavy vehicles weighing between 8 and 16 tonnes.
Medium-sized goods transport vehicles.
Slow-moving vehicles like tractors, bullock carts, handcarts and small goods carriers.
Private buses that have an All India Permit (AIP).

Private buses and heavy trucks may face strict restrictions!

Crackdown on Private Buses: One of the biggest changes in the proposal is a complete ban on private buses with an All India Permit from entering Bengaluru between 8 AM and 10 PM.

If implemented, private bus operators will have to drop passengers at designated locations on the outskirts of the city. Separate shuttle services will then be required to transport passengers into Bengaluru.

Permanent Ban for Vehicles Over 16 Tonnes: The proposal also recommends a permanent ban on vehicles weighing more than 16 tonnes from entering city roads. These heavy trucks would instead unload their goods at transshipment hubs outside the city, where smaller vehicles would take over deliveries.

Vehicles Weighing 8 to 16 Tonnes: Vehicles weighing between 8 and 16 tonnes may not be allowed to enter the city between 7 AM and 10 PM.

Medium and Slow-Moving Vehicles: Medium-sized goods vehicles will face stricter restrictions during peak traffic hours, while slow-moving vehicles such as tractors, bullock carts and handcarts may be barred from major roads, especially within the Central Business District (CBD).

Essential Goods are Exempt: However, vehicles carrying essential goods such as milk and vegetables will be exempt from these restrictions.

Why the rules are being changed

The current traffic restrictions were introduced in 2014 under the then Bengaluru Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi.

At that time, only heavy vehicles faced restrictions during morning and evening peak hours, while medium-sized commercial vehicles were allowed throughout the day.

Since then, Bengaluru's registered vehicle population has nearly doubled, from around 60 lakh in 2015 to nearly 1.2 crore today, while road infrastructure has not expanded at the same pace. Traffic police believe the existing rules are no longer enough to manage the city's growing congestion.

Faster traffic is the goal

According to the 2025 TomTom Traffic Index, vehicles in Bengaluru moved at an average speed of just 14 km/h.

Traffic police estimate that removing slow-moving heavy vehicles from busy roads could increase the city's average travel speed by at least 2 km/h.

Before preparing the proposal, officials studied Hyderabad's traffic management model introduced in 2024, along with practices followed in several other Indian and international cities.

Before the proposal is finalised, Bengaluru Traffic Police will hold stakeholder consultations with transport associations, businesses and members of the public. The final policy will be prepared after considering their feedback.

The app was launched on 28 January 2026 as the next-generation replacement for the older mAadhaar application. Since then, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has encouraged users to move to the new platform, which is available on both Android and iOS devices.

The redesigned app is aimed at reducing paperwork, making Aadhaar verification easier and allowing users to complete several important tasks without visiting an Aadhaar centre.

The latest figures released by the government show how quickly people have adopted the new app. According to MeitY:

The Aadhaar App has crossed 4 crore downloads
Around 49 lakh mobile numbers have been updated through the app
More than 11.65 lakh addresses have been updated
Nearly 12.5 lakh email addresses have been added or updated
Users have locked or unlocked their Aadhaar biometrics more than 1.91 crore times

These numbers indicate that many Aadhaar holders now prefer completing routine updates through their phones instead of visiting Aadhaar centres whenever possible.

What services are available on the new Aadhaar App?

The new Aadhaar App offers much more than simply storing a digital Aadhaar card. It combines identity verification, profile management and privacy-focused features in one place. The services currently available include:

The biggest change is that users no longer need to depend heavily on photocopies of their Aadhaar card for many verification purposes.

For years, people were routinely asked to submit photocopies of their Aadhaar card while buying a SIM card, checking into hotels, opening bank accounts, applying for government schemes or completing rental agreements.

This often meant sharing more personal information than necessary.

The new Aadhaar App focuses on digital verification instead of physical document sharing. Users can verify their identity digitally while sharing only the information required for a particular service. This helps improve privacy and reduces unnecessary sharing of Aadhaar copies.

Can you update your mobile number through the Aadhaar App?

Yes, but only in certain situations.

According to UIDAI, you can update your mobile number through the Aadhaar App if your existing registered mobile number is already linked to Aadhaar and is still available with you.

Since the process requires OTP verification, users must have access to their currently registered number.

However, if you have lost your registered mobile number or never linked one with Aadhaar, you cannot complete the update through the app.

In such cases, you must visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or an authorised Aadhaar enrolment and update centre to complete the process.

Eligible users can update their mobile number by following these steps:

Open the Aadhaar App and log in.
Go to the Services section.
Select Mobile Number Update.
Enter the new mobile number.
Verify the details shown on the screen.
Submit the request.
Save the Update Request Number (URN) to track the application status.

Can you update your address?

Yes.

The Aadhaar App allows users to submit address update requests online, making the process much easier than before. Users simply need to:

Open the Aadhaar App.
Log in using OTP verification.
Select Address Update.
Enter the new address.
Upload supporting documents if required.
Submit the request.
Use the generated URN to track progress.

UIDAI also supports the Head of Family (HoF) method. Under this option, a family member whose Aadhaar already contains the correct address can approve another family member's address update request through the Aadhaar App.

The Aadhaar App introduced the email update facility on 1 July 2026.

To encourage more users to add an email address, the government has waived the usual Rs 75 fee for email updates made through the Aadhaar App until 31 December 2026.

Adding an email address allows users to receive Aadhaar-related alerts and communication more conveniently.

Free Aadhaar document update extended

UIDAI has also extended its free online Aadhaar document update facility.

Residents can now update and verify their identity and address documents online without paying any fee until 14 June 2027.

The service was earlier scheduled to end on 15 June 2026, but has now been extended by one year.

The Aadhaar App reflects the government's broader push towards digital public services.

Instead of carrying printed Aadhaar copies or repeatedly submitting photocopies, users can now complete many verification processes digitally while keeping better control over their personal information.

Features such as Face ID authentication, QR-based verification, consent-based data sharing and biometric locking are designed to improve both convenience and security.

In a bizarre yet dangerous incident, an auto tempo collided with another vehicle after the driver failed to pull up the handbrake while starting the vehicle, reportedly in Uttar Pradesh, leaving the onlookers stunned as the runaway tempo performed an unintended 'wheelie' before crashing.

In a video that went viral on social media, especially Instagram, the tempo without a driver was seen suddenly lurching forward and picking up speed, front wheels off the ground, before crashing into another vehicle, leading to minor yet noteworthy property damage, before finally coming to a complete stop.

The vehicles are expected to lose control of momentum after impact when the handbrake is not pulled up, as the engine continues to deliver power to the wheels, often causing the vehicle to behave erratically or continue moving until it meets significant resistance, resulting in the vehicle's unexpected lift and subsequent collision.

How Bizarre Mishap Unfolded?

In a video that went viral on social media, the driver of a bus was recording the incident when a tempo driver was seen sitting at the rear of his cargo vehicle, apparently working on its engine, as smoke billowed from the exhaust.

As soon as he started the engine while still seated at the back, the cargo tempo suddenly lurched forward, lifting its front wheels off the ground in a freak 'wheelie' before spiraling out of control and crashing into a vehicle travelling in the same direction. The tempo had been parked on the side of the road moments earlier.

The tempo collided with the vehicle from which the driver was recording the incident, causing minor damage before eventually coming to a halt. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the bizarre mishap.

The driver might have forgotten to pull up the handbrake while starting the engine, but the incident could have been far more serious had the tempo struck pedestrians or moving traffic at a higher speed. Since the vehicle was parked roadside just moments earlier, the unexpected movement caught everyone by surprise.

If the handbrake is not engaged, the engine can continue transmitting power to the wheels, causing the vehicle to move unexpectedly until it is stopped by braking, an obstacle, or another vehicle.

What Happens When the Handbrake Isn't Engaged?

Every vehicle is equipped with a handbrake, also known as a parking brake, designed to keep it stationary when parked. The foot brake is completely separate from the handbrake, as the former is used while driving the vehicle, while the latter is specifically designed to prevent unintended movement when the vehicle is parked or left unattended.

By mechanically locking the wheels, the handbrake prevents the vehicle from rolling due to gravity or engine movement, especially on slopes or uneven surfaces. If a vehicle is left without engaging the handbrake, it can begin moving unexpectedly if the engine is started while in gear, be it the first or reverse.

The unengaged handbrake, combined with the engine transmitting power to the wheels, can cause the vehicle to lurch forward or backward unexpectedly, increasing the risk of collisions or accidents, property damage, or serious injuries if anyone or anything is in its path.

Therefore, the incident from Uttar Pradesh underscores the importance of engaging the handbrake before starting the engine, particularly while carrying out repairs or maintenance, to prevent unexpected vehicle movement and potential accidents.

Alleged sexual harassment

According to a report by the Hindu, the complaint alleged that he held the woman's hand, pulled her towards him and used obscene language. He reportedly asked her "what her rate was". It further stated that he allegedly forced another woman to take a selfie with him. When she refused, he is accused of abusing her using obscene language.

The complainant also alleged that after a video related to the incident was shared on social media, Manju called and issued death threats. The complaint further accused his mother of calling the complainant and verbally abusing them.

FIR filed under multiple sections

Based on the complaint, Bengaluru Police registered an FIR under Sections 74, 79, 352, 75(1), 75(2), 75(3) and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police said the allegations are being investigated and further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry. No official statement has been issued by the accused regarding the allegations so far.

How Police Caught Girl Making Reel Inside Temple Premises?

A young girl, dressed in purple, was seen dancing and posing for a video inside the temple premises, adjacent to the devotees' entry line. A person, believed to be one of her parents and not visible in the frame, appeared to be recording the video as she performed for the camera, despite the temple's strict rules prohibiting photography and videography.

Although she was dancing beside the main walkway, her proximity to devotees entering the temple quickly drew the attention of the security personnel. The devotees, who were standing in the entrance queue, appeared visibly surprised by the girl's actions, with several of them turning to look as the incident unfolded.

As soon as the security personnel noticed the incident, a police officer inside the temple immediately approached the girl and sternly instructed her to stop recording. The officer asked her to put her phone away, making it clear that filming inside the temple premises was strictly prohibited.

At an age when many people begin thinking about retirement, 56-year-old Reshma spends her days travelling across Bengaluru, delivering Amazon parcels to support her family. A cancer survivor, she has been working as a delivery associate for the past five years, refusing to give up despite serious health challenges and mounting financial pressure.

Every day begins with a delivery route

Reshma starts her day at 7 am by loading parcels into her electric rickshaw before heading out on her delivery route. Years ago, she underwent surgery for oral cancer, which permanently changed the left side of her face. One of her eyes waters constantly, and she cannot fully lift one of her arms.

Despite these physical difficulties, she climbs flights of stairs every day to ensure customers receive their packages.

"Many people ask me, 'Why do you do this job if you can't climb stairs?' But if I quit, who will run my family?" she says.

COVID-19 forced a complete career change

Before becoming a delivery associate, Reshma stitched shirts for garment factories from her home. She earned around ₹1,000 a day and managed to support her family through tailoring.

However, when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down garment factories, she lost her only source of income. Left with no steady earnings, she joined Amazon as a delivery associate to make ends meet.

One tragedy after another

The family's struggles began in 2014 when her son was diagnosed with kidney failure. They borrowed around Rs 7 lakh for his treatment, but despite spending seven months in hospital, he could not be saved.

Just a year later, Reshma was diagnosed with oral cancer. In 2016, she underwent a major reconstructive surgery in which doctors used skin and bone from her thigh to rebuild part of her face.

Daily earnings, but debts continue

Today, Reshma earns around Rs 700 a day through deliveries. Her daughter works at a car showroom and earns about Rs 15,000 a month. Even with both incomes, the family continues to struggle financially.

To manage household expenses and her daughter's wedding, the family borrowed another Rs 7-8 lakh through microfinance loans. They even purchased gold earrings and a chain on loan for the wedding but may now have to return the jewellery because they cannot afford the interest.

Carrying the family's responsibility

According to Reshma, her husband has not contributed much to the family's finances since their son's death. She says he developed an alcohol addiction after the tragedy, leaving her and her daughter to shoulder all the household responsibilities.

"I work all day just to earn enough for one square meal," she says.

Kindness keeps her going

Reshma says not every day is easy. Some customers ignore her calls or insist she climb several floors despite her visible health condition.

Still, she remembers the people who treated her with kindness. One customer handed her Rs 500 and told her to buy something to eat. The gesture, she says, is something she will never forget.

A growing reality for older workers

Reshma's story reflects a larger trend across India. Rising living costs, debt, health problems and the absence of pension security are forcing many people in their 50s and 60s into the gig economy.

Today, older workers are increasingly seen delivering food, groceries and parcels for companies such as Amazon, Zomato, Swiggy, Blinkit and Uber. Labour unions say many of them work 12 to 14 hours a day, with little hope of retiring anytime soon.

Victim escaped after pushing attackers away

Police identified the victim as Suresh Jalgara, who was reportedly playing rummy when five men arrived at the club, according to a report by the Hindu.

According to investigators, two of the suspects stayed outside while three entered the rummy room and confronted Jalgara. An argument soon turned violent.

CCTV footage reportedly shows one of the accused pulling out a firearm and attempting to shoot Jalgara at close range. He managed to push the attackers away, preventing the first shot from hitting him.

Gunmen fired shots before fleeing

After Jalgara broke free, the attackers allegedly fired two rounds at him. They also reportedly fired two shots into the air before escaping from the club.

Police personnel in a nearby street rushed to the scene after hearing the gunfire. Staff members at the club told officers that the attackers had come with the intention of killing Jalgara.

Despite the attack, Jalgara managed to escape and later approached police officers seeking protection.

Police collecting evidence, motive still being verified

Belagavi Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase visited the scene soon after the incident to review the situation.

During preliminary questioning, Jalgara claimed the attack was carried out in revenge for an earlier firing incident involving a man identified as Prafull Patil. He alleged that associates of Patil had sent the attackers to target him.

However, police have not confirmed this claim and said the motive is still under investigation.

Five accused remain absconding

Police have formed multiple teams to trace the five suspects, who remain on the run.
