Konni: Imagine stepping out of your house early in the morning only to find a giant python coiled up on your car’s bonnet. That is exactly what happened to Samuvelkutty at his residence in Muthupezhunkal Kallumpurath, Konni. He noticed the massive snake resting calmly on his car, which was parked inside the courtyard. Shocked by the sight, he did not waste any time and immediately informed the Forest Department’s Rapid Response Team (RRT).

The Konni RRT team quickly reached the location and began a careful rescue operation. After considerable effort and caution, the team successfully captured the python without causing harm to the animal or danger to residents. The snake was later safely transported and released back into its natural forest habitat.

ALSO READ: Snakebite Case in India: King Cobra to Russell's Viper-4 Most Venomous, Deadly Snakes in Kerala Snakes

According to local residents, python sightings have become increasingly frequent in Konni and nearby regions. This is not an isolated incident. Just two days earlier, another python had been caught from the house of Sabu Thottal, who lives next door to Samuvelkutty. These repeated encounters have left people in the area deeply concerned about their safety.

Residents believe that snakes are entering human settlements more often due to habitat disturbance and proximity to forest areas. As a result, fear and caution have increased among families, especially during early morning and late evening hours.

Forest officials have urged the public not to panic and to immediately inform authorities in case of such sightings. They also assured that rescue teams are actively monitoring the region and responding quickly to all reports. While the python was safely released, the growing number of such incidents continues to raise concern among locals living near forest boundaries in Konni.

ALSO READ: Python Found in Kerala Home for Third Consecutive Day, Family Alarmed

According to locals, the 'Magic' van was travelling from Lakhimpur towards Sisaiya. A speeding truck coming from the Bahraich side hit it head-on. The impact caused the van to lose control, and it overturned on the side of the road. The truck driver abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene. If the truck's speed had been lower, perhaps people might have survived the collision.

'Skulls were split, faces were torn'

Onlookers said the truck hit the 'Magic' van with such force that it was thrown about 10 feet away. The passengers inside suffered horrific injuries. Some had their skulls split open, while others were impaled by iron rods from the vehicle's frame.

We often hear of people owning cars, buses, or jets, but a train? A farmer from Punjab reportedly ended up as the “owner” of a train due to a surprising Indian Railways blunder. Here’s what actually happened in this bizarre case.
Sampuran Singh, a farmer from Katana village in Punjab's Ludhiana district, became the owner of the famous Swarna Shatabdi Express. In India, we all know trains are government property. But for the first time, a train went into the hands of a farmer. This surprising incident happened in 2007. The Railway department acquired Sampuran Singh's land for the Ludhiana-Chandigarh railway line. They gave him a compensation of about Rs 25 lakh per acre. However, Singh found out that other farmers in the same area received up to Rs 71 lakh per acre. Feeling cheated, he decided to take the matter to court.
After hearing the case, the court agreed with Sampuran Singh's argument. It significantly increased his compensation, ordering the Railways to pay him about Rs 1.47 crore per acre. But the Railway department failed to pay the full amount. They paid a small portion and held back the rest. So, the farmer went back to court. This time, the court gave a sensational verdict. It ordered the seizure of the Swarna Shatabdi Express until the Railways paid the dues. This meant the train now belonged to Sampuran Singh! The court also attached the Ludhiana railway station master's office to the seizure, putting it in the farmer's hands too.

ALSO READ: Railways approves Rs 993 cr Arakkonam-Chengalpattu Doubling Project

Sampuran Singh took the court order and went to the Ludhiana railway station with his lawyer. He handed over the court's papers to the officials and became the train's legal owner. Until the Railways paid him back, he had the right to keep the train stationary. However, the train was already full of passengers. Thinking about their inconvenience, the farmer stopped the train for only a few hours. After a discussion with railway officials, he allowed the train to leave. The incident created a huge stir across the country at the time.

ALSO READ: Railways sanctions Rs 2,193 cr for Jammu-Katra, Howrah, Chennai
After this incident, the Railway department paid some more money to Sampuran Singh. Finally, in May 2017, the court lifted the seizure order on the Swarna Shatabdi Express. Technically, until that day, Sampuran Singh was still the train's owner. In 2017, the train officially went back under the full control of the Railways. This episode remains a rare chapter in Indian Railways' history. The case proved how seriously the court can act if farmers' issues are ignored. Sampuran Singh is still remembered as the only man in India to have ever owned a train.

People today travel to all corners of the world, so we're all quite familiar with different cultures and customs. In this context, Indian travel influencer Gautam Sachdeva is sharing a story about a bad experience he had during a trip to Europe. He posted on Instagram about how he accepted an invitation from a social media follower to stay at his house, only to be threatened for rent money later. He warned other travellers that this was one of the worst experiences of his solo travels and advised them not to stay in strangers' homes.

Gautam was in Berlin and planning to visit Prague when a follower messaged him. The follower told Gautam to come to Munich instead and offered him a place to stay at his home. Gautam accepted the invitation, thinking he could stay there and also visit Austria.

ALSO READ: Bihar: Banyan Tree Catches Fire During Vat Savitri Puja; Video Shows Chaos, Panic (WATCH)

"He didn't even ask me if I wanted water to drink, forget about food," Gautam said. Because of this, Gautam spent the entire day roaming outside and only came back to the house at night to sleep. He decided to stay one more day because he was having severe pain in his leg. The next day, as he was leaving early in the morning to catch a train, the follower stopped him and demanded 30 Euros (about ₹3,346) as rent. The follower's argument was, "Wouldn't you have had to pay money at a hostel anyway?" Gautam refused to pay, saying that he hadn't asked to stay, but was invited. After this, the follower apparently started sending threatening messages, demanding money for using the room, for coffee, and for the internet. Gautam wrote that this was the first big lesson he learned on his solo travels.

ALSO READ: Vijay’s ‘CM 2026’ Number Plate Video Breaks Internet After Political Rise (WATCH)

    View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Gautam Sachdeva (@belikegautam)

"On solo trips, always book your own hotel room or hostel bed. One person wrote, "We need to hear his side of the story too. When you're in Europe, you shouldn't expect the same kind of hospitality you get in India."

A massive legal battle is brewing between two of India's biggest media players, JioStar and Zee Entertainment. The fight is over the broadcasting rights of several blockbuster Bollywood movies.

JioStar, the new media giant from the Reliance-Disney partnership, has accused Zee TV of illegally showing several Bollywood movies for which they hold the rights. Reuters was the first to report this.

On May 4, JioStar filed a case with the Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee. Their complaint is that Zee aired 12 of their movies nearly 20 times last year without any permission. We're talking about some major blockbusters starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Amitabh Bachchan. Aamir Khan's superhit 'Dangal' and classics like 'Deewar' and 'Tridev' are on this list.

A ₹250 crore compensation claim?

JioStar is not holding back. In its 120-page petition, it has called Zee a 'Habitual Infringer'. Sources in the industry say JioStar could demand a massive compensation of over ₹250 crore for this copyright violation. Zee Group, on their part, claims they got the necessary permissions from the production companies for some of the films.

For now, the case is with the Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee. If they can't sort it out through mediation, the matter will go to a full court hearing. Zee Entertainment has been asked to show up before the committee on May 25.

ALSO READ: Dua Lipa sues Samsung for $15 million over unauthorized image use

Clash of the Media Titans

This isn't the first time these two giants are locking horns. They are already fighting a $1 billion (that's about ₹8,300 crore!) legal case in London over a failed cricket broadcasting deal. And just this April, Zee Group had sued JioStar for $3 million, saying they used their songs without permission. So, this latest move by JioStar looks like a direct counter-attack.

JioStar was formed in 2024 after Reliance and Walt Disney merged in a massive $8.5 billion deal, creating the country's biggest OTT platform. This new courtroom drama is a clear sign of the cut-throat competition in India's entertainment market, where companies are fighting hard to protect their content and stay on top.

ALSO READ: Taylor Swift Files Trademarks to Protect Voice, Likeness From AI

In a shocking case, the Human Rights Commission has ordered the government to pay Rs 50,000 to a man whose eyes were allegedly pepper-sprayed by a Sub-Inspector. The incident happened when the man was called to the police station just for texting his wife while their divorce case was going on in a family court.

Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas gave the order. He said the government must pay the compensation within two months. The order also states that the government can later recover this money from the SI according to the law.

If there's a delay in payment, an 8% interest will be charged. The commission has asked the State Police Chief and the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department to submit an action-taken report within two months.

This whole issue started on October 9, 2023, at the Chirayinkeezhu Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram. The complaint was filed by Sreenath, who lives in Chirayinkeezhu Kurakkada.

ALSO READ: Harassment Case: Incident in Bathery Raises Alarm; CCTV Breaks Case Wide Open!

The commission first asked for an investigation report from the Thiruvananthapuram Rural District Police Chief. That report actually confirmed that the SI got 'provoked' during a conversation with Sreenath and sprayed some liquid on his face, causing a burning sensation in his eyes. However, the report claimed there was no proof of physical assault.

Not satisfied, the commission then handed over the investigation to its own team, led by a Superintendent of Police. During this probe, police witnesses said that Sreenath came out of the SI's room crying and was asking where the washbasin was. Sreenath also told doctors at the Medical College and an eye hospital that he was pepper-sprayed. The doctor who examined him noted that his eyes were red and said this could happen from a pepper spray attack.

The SI, however, has denied all these allegations. But based on the evidence, the report concluded that there was a 'serious lapse' on the SI's part. It was also mentioned that departmental disciplinary action has been initiated against him, and the Irinjalakuda DySP has been asked to conduct a verbal inquiry.

In his final order, Justice Alexander Thomas clearly stated that Sreenath's human rights were violated.

ALSO READ: Kerala Shocker: Man Finds Giant Python on Car Bonnet ; What Happens Next Will Shock You!

A political billboard in Taiwan’s Kaohsiung city has sparked outrage after local candidate Lee Hung-yi appeared to campaign against Indians using imagery many called racist. The controversy comes amid debates over recruiting Indian migrant workers.

A controversial political billboard in Taiwan has triggered outrage online and raised concerns among Indian-origin residents after a local election candidate appeared to campaign against Indians using imagery many people described as racist and discriminatory.

The billboard was reportedly placed on Shanming Road in Kaohsiung’s Siaogang District and belongs to local council candidate Lee Hung-yi. The poster shows a crossed-out illustration of a brown-skinned man wearing a turban and facial hair, along with what appeared to be an upside-down Indian flag.

Lee Hung-yi, running for city council in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, ran a “no” sign over a man with a turban and an Indian flag. Says he doesn’t like Indian labor.Indians are roaring, but Lee not backing down. No Indians! pic.twitter.com/NVrPo0nfkz

— Jared Taylor (@RealJarTaylor) May 14, 2026

Many social media users and residents interpreted the billboard as a direct message against Indians and migrant workers from India.

The incident has now become part of a wider debate in Taiwan over migrant labour, race, political campaigning and relations with India.

The visuals on the billboard shocked several members of Taiwan’s Indian community. Residents quoted in local reports said they felt uncomfortable, targeted and unwelcome after seeing the campaign material displayed publicly.

Some people described it as one of the most openly anti-Indian political displays they had ever seen in Taiwan.

The issue gained more attention after videos and pictures of the billboard went viral on social media platforms, where users from different countries shared sharply divided opinions.

Indians in Taiwan say racism is rising after a political candidate promised to BAN Indian workers from entering the country. One campaign poster reportedly showed a man in a turban alongside the Indian flag both crossed out with a giant ❌.As Taiwan faces labor shortages… pic.twitter.com/KzgAitqveX

— Sourabh (@vellasrv) May 19, 2026

While many condemned the billboard as racist and harmful, others defended the candidate’s right to oppose immigration policies.

The controversy quickly spread online, leading to thousands of comments and debates. Several users claimed the campaign reflected growing anti-Indian sentiment in parts of East Asia, while others argued it was linked more to local politics and labour concerns.

Some social media users alleged that the candidate was linked to pro-China politics and claimed the billboard was designed to favour Chinese migrants over Indian workers.

The Taiwanese are not particularly fond of Indians. One political candidate in Kaohsiung vows to ban Indians from immigrating. pic.twitter.com/bKrvIoXi0W

— Ian Miles Cheong (@ianmiles) May 18, 2026

Others accused political groups of using fear and stereotypes to win support before local elections.

A number of comments openly mocked Indians or used insulting language, which further increased criticism of the campaign. At the same time, some users defended India and pointed out the close connections between Indians and Taiwanese living abroad, especially in places like the United States.

Other users argued that Taiwan should decide its own immigration policies without outside pressure, while some criticised racism and hate-based political messaging.

The online debate also included comments connecting the issue to wider tensions involving China and Taiwan.

The billboard controversy comes during a larger political debate in Taiwan over plans to recruit workers from India to help solve labour shortages.

In 2024, India and Taiwan signed a labour mobility agreement aimed at helping Taiwanese industries facing worker shortages. The agreement focused on bringing Indian workers into sectors where labour demand remains high.

However, the move has faced resistance from sections of the opposition, especially members of the Kuomintang or KMT.

Some opposition leaders raised concerns that migrant workers could leave contracts illegally or create social and public safety problems.

Certain lawmakers reportedly cited crime statistics from India while arguing against large-scale recruitment of Indian workers. Critics of these arguments say such statements unfairly stereotype an entire nationality and create fear.

Ruling party pushes back against anti-Indian messaging

Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party or DPP strongly criticised messaging seen as targeting Indians.

Party leaders argued that Indian workers would follow the same laws and regulations that apply to all migrant workers in Taiwan.

DPP legislator Rosalia Wu reportedly warned that political leaders should not use populist campaigns to spread racial discrimination or fear against specific communities.

Supporters of the labour agreement also pointed out that Taiwan already employs workers from countries such as Vietnam and Indonesia in large numbers.

Some commentators argued that focusing only on Indian workers while ignoring workers from other nations raises questions about bias and selective targeting.

This is not the first time discussions around Indian workers have caused controversy in Taiwan.

Last year, comments by former labour minister Hsu Ming-chun created diplomatic discomfort after she reportedly suggested recruiting workers from India’s northeast because of “similar skin colour”.

The remarks triggered backlash both online and offline. Taiwan’s foreign ministry later apologised over the controversy.

The latest billboard dispute has once again brought attention to how migrant workers from India are being discussed in Taiwan’s political space.

No official response yet from India

So far, Ministry of External Affairs has not issued any official statement regarding the billboard controversy.

However, the issue has gained significant attention among Indian social media users, with many demanding that political leaders in Taiwan condemn the imagery and prevent racial targeting during election campaigns.

Some users also called for stronger diplomatic engagement between India and Taiwan to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Labour shortages remain a major issue in Taiwan

Taiwan continues to face labour shortages in several industries, especially manufacturing, healthcare and caregiving sectors.

Experts say migrant workers are important for supporting Taiwan’s economy and ageing population.

Supporters of the India-Taiwan labour agreement believe Indian workers can help meet labour demands while also improving economic ties between the two regions.

But critics fear that immigration changes could affect jobs, wages or public services, leading to political opposition.

The growing political fight over migrant workers has now expanded into a broader debate about race, identity and nationalism in Taiwan.

Indian Railways is one of the world's biggest transport networks but many of us don't know some of the basic rules. For instance, do you know how long you can legally stay at a station after your train journey ends? Most people are not clear on this.
The Indian Railways laws don't specify a fixed time limit for staying at a station after you arrive. Generally, officials allow you to stay for about two hours during the day. In bigger stations at night, this limit can be up to six hours. However, this rule isn't the same everywhere and also depends on the local railway officials' decisions. They advise buying a platform ticket if you plan to stay longer, or you could face a fine.
Most railway stations provide a waiting room facility. Passengers can rest here if their train is delayed or if they are waiting for a connecting train. This facility is mainly for departing passengers, who can use it a few hours before their train leaves. Some stations may allow passengers arriving late at night to stay until the morning. However, there might be restrictions for those arriving on day trains. It's always best to ask the station staff for the correct information.

ALSO READ: New Indian Railway rules take effect from May 15: What passengers need to know

Some major railway stations also have retiring rooms. Passengers can book these rooms if they need to stay at the station for a long time. They are like basic hotel rooms, and you can book them for a few hours or up to two days. You can book a room online via the IRCTC website or at the station counter by showing your train ticket or PNR number. You have to pay for this service, but the charges are usually much lower than hotels outside.

ALSO READ: Railways sanctions Rs 2,193 cr for Jammu-Katra, Howrah, Chennai
Many people have a habit of throwing away their ticket as soon as they get off the train. This is not a good practice. You should keep the ticket, or the confirmation message on your phone, until you have left the station premises. Sometimes, railway officials or security staff might ask you to show it. You also need a valid ticket to use facilities like waiting rooms and retiring rooms. So, it's always best to keep your ticket safe until your journey is fully complete.

Many believe the Haavurani is poisonous, but it is just a myth. This harmless skink eats pests like cockroaches and grasshoppers, helping keep homes and gardens clean. It plays a useful role in nature and is truly a farmer’s friend.
We've all seen this shiny creature zipping across our gardens, on rocks, or among green plants. We call it 'Haavurani'. In English, its name is Common Indian Skink (Eutropis carinata). It might look like a baby snake, but it's actually a very helpful lizard.
In many villages, there's a big superstition about the Haavurani. Because its name has 'haavu' (snake), people fear it's a type of snake or is highly venomous. This is completely false. The Haavurani has no venom at all. It doesn't even bite humans. Reptile expert Gauri Kalinga shares this important info, confirming it's a totally non-violent creature. It won't bother you unless you provoke it.

ALSO READ: Telangana: Man arrested for illegal trading of two Red Sand Boa snakes
The Haavurani isn't just a beautiful creature; it's also our garden's 'natural pesticide'. These skinks eat cockroaches, grasshoppers, termites, and other small insects that harm plants. Without us even knowing, they help keep our yards and kitchens cockroach-free, without any chemicals. So, it's no mistake to call them a farmer's friend. They love the sun and you can often spot them basking on rocks or dry leaves in the morning. They usually live under piles of dry leaves or logs.
This skink has a fascinating defence trick. If an animal or human tries to catch it, the skink immediately cuts off its own tail to escape! The predator gets distracted by the detached tail, and the Haavurani runs away. The amazing part is, the tail grows back after a few days.

ALSO READ: Kalaburagi Zoo Becomes New Tourist Hotspot with Wildlife, Green Spaces, and Family Attractions
These creatures lay eggs to reproduce. A female skink lays about 2 to 20 eggs in a safe spot. They are found in large numbers along the edges of the Western Ghats and in gardens in the plains. Here's our request: these small creatures play a big role in balancing our environment. If you see one near your house, please don't be scared or kill it because of superstitions. They are not poisonous and are very helpful to us. Let's respect these amazing guests of the green world and enjoy their presence.
