A simple meeting that changed everything

Eniyavan’s life took a turning point in an unexpected way. Years ago, when he was working as an auto-rickshaw driver, he once picked up a passenger carrying a large container of idli batter. Her name was Chandra, and she supplied idlis to local eateries. Watching her work gave him a new idea. He realised that the idli business could be started by anyone with simple resources.

This moment inspired him to try something new, according to an article published in Indian Express.

From struggle to starting his own business

Eniyavan came to Chennai in 1997 at the age of 27, hoping to build a better life and escape poverty. He tried different small jobs before becoming an auto driver. Inspired by Chandra, he decided to start making and selling idlis from his home in RK Nagar.

However, his journey was not easy. On the very first day of his business, heavy rains flooded his house. The water entered his kitchen, damaged his idli steamer and spoiled the batter.

Despite this setback, he did not give up. He repaired his equipment over the next 20 days and restarted his work with determination.

Adding creativity to a simple dish

What made Eniyavan stand out was his creativity. He did not want idli to remain just a basic breakfast item. The idea of innovation started at home. When his daughter asked for pizza, he created an idli version of it by adding vegetables and spices to the batter. She loved it.

This encouraged him to try more ideas. He made chocolate idlis, pudina (mint) idlis and even beetroot idlis to make food more interesting for his children. He also experimented with ingredients. For example, he used tender coconut water instead of plain water while preparing the batter, making the idlis both tasty and healthy.

Taking idli to a bigger stage

His passion kept growing. In 2012, his catering company designed special heart-shaped idli plates on February 14. Later, he organised a unique event where he displayed 1,000 different varieties of idlis at Vivekananda Vidyalaya Junior College.

The event attracted around 14,000 people and received wide attention. Many were surprised to see how a simple idli could be turned into so many forms.

This event became a major step in promoting idli on a larger scale.

How world idli day was born

Impressed by his efforts, Rajamani, president of Samayal Sangam, declared March 30 as World Idli Day. The first celebration took place in 2015 in Chennai. Since then, the day has been observed every year, with people celebrating the taste and comfort of idlis.

Eniyavan believes idli is not just food, but an emotion. He says it is so soft and comforting that even babies who refuse milk can be fed mashed idlis.

A life changed by passion

Eniyavan’s life has changed completely over the years. From struggling to survive, he now travels, stays in good hotels and is invited to speak at colleges. He has also built a better life for his family and educated his children.

Looking ahead, he plans to expand his business further by opening hotels across Chennai. His goal is to make idli recognised not just as a breakfast item, but as a global food.

Three doctors in Bengaluru, Karnataka have been booked by police after they were seen riding triple on a two-wheeler while celebrating the completion of their Master of Science (MS) in orthopaedics. The incident raised serious safety concerns after a video of the act went viral on social media.

What happened on Sunday night

The incident took place around 10 pm on Sunday on 16th Main road between BTM Layout and Jayadeva Junction. According to police, the three were riding together on one bike in the middle of traffic, reported the Times of India.

Two of them were not wearing helmets, which itself is a violation of traffic rules. What made the situation worse was that one of the pillion riders, who was wearing a helmet, was seen drinking from what appeared to be a beer bottle while the bike was moving.

A commuter recorded the incident and shared the video online. It quickly went viral, with many people criticising the doctors for irresponsible behaviour, especially since they belong to the medical profession.

Police take suo motu action

Taking note of the viral video, Mico Layout traffic police registered a case on their own (suo motu). They tracked the vehicle using its registration number (KA-04JS-8028) and contacted the owner.

The rider was identified as Dhanush, 30, from Yeshwantpur, who works at Sapthagiri Medical College. The other two were Apoorva, also known as Prapurna, 30, from Bommanahalli, working at Vydehi Hospital, and Avinash, 37, from MC Layout, associated with Chamundeshwari Medical College, the TOI report added.

What the accused told police

According to police, the three admitted to their actions. They said they had gone to a bar and restaurant to celebrate completing their MS degree in orthopaedics.

Before leaving, Avinash reportedly carried a half-finished beer bottle with him and continued drinking while sitting on the bike as a pillion rider.

Charges filed against them

The police have registered an FIR against all three for rash or negligent riding on a public road, which could endanger human life. They have also been booked under sections related to public nuisance and traffic violations.

Authorities have reminded the public that such behaviour is dangerous and punishable under the law.

The contract for the procurement of Tunguska Air Defence Missile Systems, valued at Rs 445 crore, for the Indian Army, was signed with JSC Rosoboronexport, Russia in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

These cutting-edge missiles will enhance India’s multilayered air defence capabilities against aerial threats including aircraft drones and cruise missiles.

The punished staff strongly objected to the treatment, calling it the “height of arrogance.” They argued that if there was negligence, proper procedures like an inquiry or official notice should have been followed. Chitradurga Superintendent of Police (SP) Ranjit Bandaru has taken note of the issue and ordered a detailed investigation. DySP Girish Gowda will submit a report soon. Devi Bai, a 45-year-old resident of Ayanur village in Shivamogga taluk, was suffering from a hernia. She was admitted to Amrutha Lifecare hospital on March 11 for treatment. Doctors performed the hernia surgery on March 12. However, her family alleges that she was given too much anaesthesia. Since March 13, she has been completely unresponsive.

Woman slips into a coma

Days have passed since the surgery, but Devi Bai has not regained consciousness. Her family is furious, stating that a doctor's blunder has pushed her into a coma. On the hospital's advice, she was first shifted to Nanjappa Hospital in Shivamogga. But when her condition didn't improve, she was moved to a private hospital in Bengaluru for advanced treatment.

'Doctor was arrogant, gave us threats'

The family has lashed out at Dr. Dhananjay, the doctor who performed the surgery. "The doctor is arguing with us, saying 'What I did was correct'," said Devi Bai's son-in-law, Kantharaj, and another relative, Usha Naik. They also claim that the hospital management threatened them. "The management was very arrogant. They told us, 'You can go to the police or court if you want, nothing will happen to us'," the distressed family members told the media.

What happened inside the court

As per the letter, the court was closed at the time. Two individuals entered the premises without permission. They were helped by a third person. In the video, one person is seen sitting on the Presiding Officer’s chair. Another is standing inside the witness box.

They were also seen shaking hands and playing songs in the courtroom. The video was later shared online and quickly went viral.

High Court response

The High Court said the act appears to harm the dignity and authority of the court. It issued notices to all three respondents. Justice Sandeep Shah is hearing the matter.

The court has also asked Advocate Mahaveer Bishnoi to assist as Amicus Curiae. The case will now be taken up for further hearing.

Pedestrians hit one after another

In the footage, the first victim is seen being thrown nearly five feet into the air due to the impact. The car did not stop and went on to hit three more people walking along the roadside.

After hitting the pedestrians, the vehicle crashed into a pickup van from behind. Even after this, the driver reversed the car and managed to flee from the scene, leaving the injured behind.

Four injured, rushed to hospital

Police reached the spot soon after getting information about the accident. Four injured people were taken to hospital for treatment.

The injured have been identified as Sanjay Gupta alias Guddu from Mishri Bazaar in Ghazipur and Zahur Ansari from Peer Sagar, according to a report by Dainik Bhaskar. Two others were also hurt in the incident. According to police, all injured persons are now stable and out of danger.

Case filed, driver on the run

Based on a complaint filed by Sanjay Gupta, police have registered a case against the driver of the car (registration number UP 65 BX 0051).

Deal made through Telegram

Police said the racket used digital platforms to find donors. A demand was posted on a Telegram group by a man identified as Dr Afzal, who is linked to a hospital in Meerut.

A young man named Ayush from Bihar, who was studying in Dehradun, agreed to donate his kidney after being promised ₹6 lakh. However, he was paid only ₹3.5 lakh.

This payment dispute led to a complaint, which helped police uncover the entire racket.

During the investigation, links to Meerut’s Alpha Hospital came up. Police said several staff members may be involved.

In Kanpur, police arrested Dr Surjit Singh of Ahuja Hospital, his wife Preeti Ahuja, and others. Preeti Ahuja was also a vice-president of the Kanpur IMA.

An ambulance driver named Shivam was also arrested. Police said he pretended to be a doctor to cheat people.

Two OT technicians from Ghaziabad, Kuldeep and Rajesh, were also held.

Fake doctor shock

A shocking detail emerged about a man named Mudassar Ali. Police first believed he was a doctor who performed the surgery.

However, when officers visited his house, his wife said he was not a doctor but an OT technician.

This raised serious questions about how such surgeries were carried out.

A video of Dr Afzal has also surfaced online. In the clip, he is seen lying on a bed with bundles of cash and making a video.

Another person is also seen in the video. The clip has triggered wide discussion and anger.

Health department steps in

The Meerut health department has issued a notice to Alpha Hospital. Chief Medical Officer Dr Ashok Kataria has asked for a reply within three days.

The notice names several staff members, including a physiotherapist and doctors.

However, the hospital management has denied all charges. The manager said no doctor named Afzal works there and called the allegations false.

Victims shifted for treatment

Both Ayush and Parul Tomar, who received the kidney, have been discharged from the hospital. They have been sent to Lucknow for better treatment.

Victims were returning from temple visit

All the victims were returning after visiting Sheetla Mata Temple. Earlier in the day, the family had celebrated a birthday at home. They had also visited Karoli Mata Temple and a local Vaishno Devi temple before heading to Sheetla Mata temple late at night.

Police said that the accident happened while they were on their way back home.

Five dead, several injured

Five people died in the accident, including husband, wife and their daughter-in-law. The deceased have been identified as Indrajeet alias Pappu Shakya (55), his wife Leela (52), Shubham alias Lali (30), his wife Shagun, and Preeti Kashyap (60), who was Shubham’s mother-in-law from Meerut.

Four others were injured, including two young children. The injured include Preeti (20), Priyansh (5), Aarav (6), and another unidentified person. The auto driver, Rajesh Kumar, suffered serious head injuries and is in critical condition.

Police chase linked to accident

Eyewitnesses said the Scorpio had earlier hit an e-rickshaw near a bus stand. After that, police started chasing the vehicle. While trying to escape, the driver lost control and crashed into the auto.

Superintendent of Police Dharmveer Yadav confirmed that the Scorpio driver, Aman Sharma, has been taken into custody and his medical test is being conducted.

Vehicle seized, investigation on

Police have seized the Scorpio (registration number MP 21 ZE 5911). The front glass of the vehicle was broken and all airbags had opened, showing the force of the crash.

Now, their fifth son, 32-year-old Sonu, is fighting for his life. Sonu is lying critically ill at home. His condition has left the family shattered. The couple fears they may soon lose him as well, according to a report by the Times of India.

Protest by residents

On Sunday, the couple, along with many local residents, held a protest in the area. They demanded that the state government step in and take urgent action. The protesters asked the government to save Sonu and take strong steps to end the drug problem in their locality, the TOI report added.

Serious allegations by locals

Manjit Kaur and other women from the mohalla said drugs are easily available in the area. They claimed that around 20 young people have died due to drug addiction in the past few years.

“Three have died in our mohalla in the last four to five months alone,” Manjit said.

She also shared her personal pain. “Two of my sons who died were married and two were unmarried. Now we fear our fifth son will meet the same fate,” she said.

Struggle to save Sonu

Manjit said Sonu was recently admitted to a hospital. However, she claimed doctors could not find his veins and only gave oral medicines before sending him home. She pleaded with the government to help save her son.

Sonu is married and has two small children, a son aged two-and-a-half years and a six-month-old daughter. The family had earlier admitted him to a de-addiction centre, but he returned home and relapsed within three days.

Stories of loss and hardship

Many other women in the area shared similar stories. One woman said her daughter-in-law left because her son could not give up drugs. Another said her only son is also addicted. Some residents said addicts often steal or sell items from their homes to buy drugs.

They also alleged that drug sellers move freely in the area. According to them, peddlers come on motorcycles with covered faces, deliver drugs quickly, and leave.

Call for strong action

Residents said there is a big gap between what the government claims and what they see daily. They urged authorities to act strongly against drug supply. Manjit said most affected families in the area belong to the Mazhabi Sikh community and are very poor. She added that addiction has drained their limited savings.

The protesting women asked the government to save the youth and protect families from further loss.

In a disturbing case, a contract killer hired to murder a woman's own son instead killed the woman herself and escaped with cash and gold. The accused, Ajay Mishra, has now been arrested after remaining on the run for nearly five years. He was caught by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch from the Naroda area, solving a 2021 murder and robbery case from Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

Family dispute led to murder plot

Police said the case began with a serious property dispute within a family. Shakuntala Yadav and her younger son Amit Yadav allegedly planned to get rid of her elder son, according to a report by India Today.

They reportedly hired Ajay Mishra, who worked as a hospital security guard and was known to them. A deal of ₹4 lakh was agreed, and ₹1 lakh was paid in advance.

However, Mishra did not carry out the plan. Instead, he returned to his village without completing the job. When Shakuntala and Amit later found Mishra and asked for their money back, he assured them he would return it. But months later, he came back with a different plan.

According to police, Mishra, along with his associate Ketan Tiwari, went to Shakuntala’s house when she was alone. Instead of returning the money, they decided to target her.

Woman killed, valuables stolen

The accused allegedly strangled Shakuntala using a rope. After killing her, they stole around ₹10 lakh in cash and 350 to 450 grams of gold jewellery from the house.

Police said the stolen gold was later sold off. The crime shocked the local community due to its cruel and unexpected nature.

Accused hid identity for years

After the murder, Mishra went into hiding. He stopped using his mobile phone and avoided official identity documents like PAN and Aadhaar cards to escape detection. He kept moving between places before finally settling in Ahmedabad’s Naroda area in 2022, where he lived quietly.

After fresh leads and continued efforts, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch tracked Mishra and arrested him. Police said the arrest has finally brought some closure to the case.

Officials added that further investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to locate and take action against other accused persons involved.
