Thiruvananthapuram: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has accused the police of creating a 'reign of terror' at night in the homes of innocent people. This is all happening in connection with the case of an alleged attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials who had raided the house of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

In a press release, the DYFI's Thiruvananthapuram district committee said the police are crossing a line and must stop trying to frame innocent people in false cases. The youth wing claims that for the last three days, police have been showing up at people's houses at night and scaring them. They warned that if these illegal actions continue, they will launch a 'very strong protest'.

What the DYFI Press Release Said

The DYFI's Thiruvananthapuram district committee strongly condemned the move to 'hunt down' young people who protested against the ED's 'anti-democratic' actions by slapping them with false cases. The statement said the police's actions are completely illegal. "DYFI workers' and leaders' homes are being entered to create a scary atmosphere. The police are crossing all limits, and this is just not acceptable," it said.

The organisation demanded that these actions stop immediately. The statement said that the police have already arrested and jailed 25 people, including DYFI district leaders and former leaders. "For the past three days, police have been creating terror in the homes of innocent people under the cover of darkness. They are specifically picking out and raiding the homes of DYFI leaders. They are even threatening cancer patients, other sick people, the elderly, children, and women in these houses," the release stated.

The DYFI also took a shot at V. D. Satheesan. They said that while the ED acts like the 'central government's hunting dogs' to go after top political leaders, Satheesan is acting like the ED's spokesperson, trying to justify these terrible acts. They claim he is doing this to get into Modi's good books.

The DYFI warned that if the police continue to illegally enter homes and create trouble, they will face massive protests. "We will bring the youth together for a political and legal fightback," the statement said. "Our resistance will continue as long as central agencies are used as political weapons for the BJP. You can't kill democratic protests with false cases and jail cells."

The group was threatening to release videos connected to a POCSO case.

The case involves six people who work with two YouTube channels, 'Vismaya News' and 'Sree Vlog'.

The group was targeting the family of the main accused in a POCSO case that was already registered with the Adoor Police. They claimed that the police had found some videos on the accused's phone, and that they now had copies of those videos. The YouTubers threatened to broadcast these videos on their channels.

ALSO READ: YouTuber Gulshan Pahuja gets 6 months' jail for scandalizing court

To stop the videos from being released, the group demanded a whopping ₹10 lakh.

Ballari (May 31): The days of giving excuses for showing up late or bunking school seem to be over for government school teachers in Karnataka. They can no longer afford to be late or skip classes for random reasons.

The state's education department has introduced a new location and face-based attendance system for all primary and high school teachers this year. If a teacher is late beyond the set time, that day will be marked as a casual leave. For this, a new app called the Karnataka Advanced Attendance Management System (KAAMS) has been developed.

This new rule has been in effect across the state since Friday. From now on, government school teachers must check in twice a day using the app, which will verify their location and face. Parents and teachers who are sincere about their work have welcomed this move. The government also plans to bring in a similar AI-based attendance system for students within the next month.

ALSO READ: CUET UG 2026: NTA to hold fresh exams for students affected by glitch

An end to 'adjustments'

This move is expected to put an end to the 'adjustment' culture. Earlier, some teachers would get their attendance marked and draw a salary without even coming to school. Some would make arrangements with their headmasters, while others would be absent in the name of union activities. It was common for some teachers to rarely even show up at school.

Leaving early will also cause trouble

The education department has decided to take strict action against anyone who ignores this new tech-based attendance system. Checking out before the official school hours end will be considered an 'Early Departure'. This will be treated as a neglect of duty, and the teacher will lose half a day's leave.

If a teacher checks out too early, say in the afternoon, without prior permission, the second half of the day will be marked as a half-day casual leave (CL). If they have no CLs left, it will be converted to an earned leave (EL) or a leave without pay.

Notice from the BEO

Being late or leaving early three times in a month will lead to a deduction of one full day's casual leave. If a teacher repeatedly checks out early without any notice or permission, it will be considered an 'unauthorised absence'. The Block Education Officer (BEO) or the DDPI will issue a show-cause notice. This could also affect their service record and annual salary increments.

ALSO READ: NEET row: Shekhawat slams Rahul Gandhi for 'absurd' jibe at PM Modi

'Increase grace period to half an hour'

Teachers have a demand of their own. Currently, if a school starts at 9:45 AM, they are allowed to check in by 9:55 AM or 10:00 AM. However, many teachers find it difficult to reach remote villages on time due to poor transport facilities. They are requesting that this 15-minute grace period be extended to half an hour.

--

Face Action

"We have introduced a location and face-based attendance system for all teachers. They must follow the department's instructions, report on time, and do their duty. Anyone failing to do so will face departmental action."

-B.

Kottayam: Police in Kanjirappally have arrested three youths for a house theft, uncovering a surprising motive behind the crime. The accused allegedly stole ₹75,000 in cash and three sovereigns of gold to fund a leisure trip to Munnar. Those arrested include 19-year-old Ajith Anil from Koduvanthanam and two 17-year-olds.

The theft occurred on May 24 at a residence in Anakallu. According to police, the trio was familiar with the house and its surroundings, which helped them plan the burglary carefully. They ensured that no one was at home before breaking in and even attempted to damage the CCTV camera installed at the property to avoid being identified.

Despite their efforts to erase evidence, investigators managed to trace them by examining CCTV footage from nearby houses and establishments. These visuals provided crucial leads, helping police track the suspects’ movements before and after the crime.

During questioning, it was revealed that the stolen money was quickly spent on a trip, with the group visiting popular tourist destinations including Munnar. Police officials said they had initial clues early in the investigation but chose to monitor the suspects and collect concrete evidence before making the arrests.

All three accused are now in custody, and further investigation is underway to determine if they were involved in any similar offences in the past.

In a shocking case from Thiruvananthapuram, a cricket coach has been sentenced to 16 years of rigorous imprisonment for molesting a minor girl. The court found Manu M, a resident of Sreevaraham in Vallakkadavu, guilty and also imposed a fine of ₹24,000 on him. What's more alarming is that there are six similar cases pending against the same coach.

The incident happened when the girl was in the seventh grade. She had joined a prominent cricket training centre in Thiruvananthapuram to pursue her passion. According to the case, the coach, Manu M, took her to the gym under the pretext of training and molested her there.

The complaint also states that he tried to force her to pose for nude photographs. When the girl refused, he allegedly denied her further training. Following this ordeal, she left the training centre. It was only four years later that she gathered the courage to file a police complaint.

Once the case was registered and the investigation began, more women came forward with similar complaints against the coach. In total, six cases have been filed against him. The verdict was delivered by the Thiruvananthapuram Fast Track Special Court Judge. The sentence includes 16 years of rigorous imprisonment under various sections of the law. However, the sentences will run concurrently, which means he will have to serve five years in jail. The court has also ordered that the fine amount of ₹24,000 must be given to the survivor as compensation.

A huge corruption scandal is brewing in Malda's Harishchandrapur over the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme. A woman claims her scheme money has been going into a local tutor's bank account for the last five years, even though she has her own account. This has caused a major uproar in the district.

Malda News: A shocking case of corruption has come to light in Malda's Harishchandrapur, all centered around the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme. One woman's rightful government grant has been going into someone else's bank account for five straight years! The BJP is claiming this isn't just a one-off case but part of a larger corruption racket that could have affected over 300 families.

Nun Nahar, a resident of Sonakul village in the Harishchandrapur police station area, is at the heart of this controversy. She had applied for the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme back in 2020. But she alleges that she hasn't received a single rupee in her account till date.

What exactly is the allegation?

Here's the shocking part. Documents and bank statements show that the government money allocated in her name, from 2021 to 2026, has been regularly deposited into the account of a local private tutor, Golam Mortuza! The biggest question is, how did someone receive another person's money in their account for five straight years and claim to know nothing about it? Or is there a deeper mystery here?

On the other hand, Nun Nahar says she repeatedly complained at the 'Duare Sarkar' camps, but years went by without any solution. As a result, she was denied the benefits of a government scheme meant for her.

BJP leader Omprakash Ghosh has claimed that it's not just the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme; there's a mountain of corruption in multiple government projects, including tree plantation drives and the Indira Awas Yojana. In his words, "This is just the beginning. Bigger scams will be exposed in the coming days."

Meanwhile, the current Trinamool MLA of Harishchandrapur, Matibur Rahman, has added a new twist to the story. He has made it clear that "this kind of injustice will not be tolerated. The guilty must be investigated and punished severely." He also dropped a significant hint, suggesting that some parts of the local administration, people close to the former MLA Tajmul Hossain, and the Harishchandrapur BDO might be involved. This has only intensified the political blame game.

Now, everyone in Harishchandrapur is asking the same question: is this just a case of administrative carelessness, or is it a well-organised racket to loot government funds? The opposition is demanding a full investigation, and ordinary people are getting worried—is their rightful government aid reaching the right hands?

Trinamool leader Jayprakash Majumdar has been arrested. The Bidhannagar North police arrested him on charges of molestation. The arrest is linked to a long-running dispute between Majumdar and his landlady over a flat he allegedly occupied by force. He is accused of using his power to illegally hold onto the flat for 14 years and also threatening the owner, Arati Roychowdhury. Things got really heated today when the flat was locked, leading to a major showdown between the two sides.

It seems Jayprakash Majumdar had rented flat number 337 in Salt Lake's A-Block back in 2014. He was living there with his family for a very small rent. The landlady alleges that whenever she asked him to leave, Majumdar would use his political influence to threaten her. The owner, whose husband has passed away, even claims she was pushed out of her own house. Despite getting several notices, Jayprakash Majumdar reportedly refused to vacate the property. He would also allegedly threaten her whenever she asked for the rent.

A few days ago, the woman tried to take back her house with the help of some local people. During the argument, she slapped Jayprakash Majumdar's wife. A video of that slap went viral on social media.

Today, on Wednesday, the fight over locking the flat blew up. When local residents saw Jayprakash Majumdar, they surrounded him and started protesting. They snatched his car keys and started shouting ‘Chor! Chor!’ (Thief! Thief!). Majumdar was seen sitting helplessly inside his car. He verbally promised to leave the house, but the locals didn't believe him. The situation got very tense. The Bidhannagar North police arrived at the scene after getting news of the commotion. The landlady, Arati Devi, went to the police station with them. Based on her complaint, the police first detained the Trinamool spokesperson and later arrested him. A case has been filed against him under several sections, including for threatening and molesting the owner. He will be presented in the Bidhannagar Sub-divisional Court tomorrow.

Muhammedali, a resident of Vengara, has said that he is relieved that the police have finally identified the person he killed decades ago. He spoke to Asianet News after revealing shocking details of two murders he committed nearly 40 years ago.

“I am ready to happily accept any punishment,” he said, adding that the decision to confess came after four long decades of living with intense guilt. According to him, the burden of his past actions gradually became unbearable over the years.

Muhammedali explained that the emotional turning point came after the death of his son. He began to feel that his son’s passing was linked to his own past sins, a thought that deeply disturbed him and led to severe mental distress. He said he was unable to sleep properly and was constantly haunted by remorse and regret.

As his psychological stress increased, he even tried discussing the incidents with friends, but claims that no one believed him at the time. Eventually, he said, speaking out about the crimes became the only way to find some peace of mind.

He further stated that both murders were not premeditated and happened accidentally in the circumstances of that time. Muhammedali also said that he was very young then, which is why he was never suspected or caught by law enforcement for all these years. Now, after decades, he insists he is ready to face the consequences of his confession and accept whatever punishment the law decides.

Police in West Bengal's Murshidabad district have arrested a family of five from Bangladesh for entering and living in India illegally. The arrests happened in the Dhumarpara area, which comes under the Sagardighi police station. The family members have been identified as Ujir Ali (43), his wife Jainur Khatun (36), and their three sons—Shihab Sheikh (15), Injamul Haque (10), and Abdul Samad Sheikh (4).

According to police sources, the family is originally from the Chapainawabganj district in Bangladesh. Police believe Ujir Ali crossed the border illegally about 13 years ago and settled down permanently in the Dhumarpara area.

The police said they caught the family during a raid in the locality, and the investigation is still going on. Ujir Ali used to work as a mason in South India. He had even bought land and built a house in Dhumarpara. It's also alleged that over the years, he managed to get Indian identity documents like a Voter Card and an Aadhaar card. The police arrested all five members, claiming they were living in the country using fake documents. They have now been sent to a holding centre. Police and administration officials said that once all the legal formalities are done, they will contact the BSF to have the family deported back to Bangladesh.

This isn't a one-off case. Just last month, police in Mallikpur, Baruipur, in the South 24 Parganas district, arrested two other Bangladeshi nationals. The arrested couple, Shafiqul Islam Molla and his wife Monira Begum, are from Bangladesh's Jessore district. They had apparently entered India illegally with the help of an agent and were living in Mallikpur.

In another incident, the Border Security Force (BSF) stopped an attempt by Bangladeshi nationals to enter India in West Bengal's Cooch Behar district. This happened in Sangarbari village, which is in the Khalishamari Gram Panchayat area of Sitalkuchi block.

Local residents said they saw a group of 10 to 11 Bangladeshi nationals gathering on the Bangladesh side of the border in the morning. They claimed the group then tried to cross into Indian territory. However, BSF jawans posted there acted quickly and blocked the illegal entry.

The victim, Binu, who lives at Tejas, KTC Junction, was abducted by a group of people. Police have arrested one person, Ravindran, a native of Thirunellai, and said they have recovered evidence from his phone.

This whole drama unfolded on the night of the 28th of last month. The gang first called Binu, luring him with a promise of giving him money against his vehicle's RC book. When he reached Akathethara, a five-member gang arrived in a car and kidnapped him. They took him to a deserted house in Chavadi Chimmanampathy, tied him up, and brutally beat him. The gang mistakenly believed that Binu had won a Rs 15 lakh lottery and demanded he hand over the entire amount.

ALSO READ: Ottapalam Horror: Domestic Calm Turns Deadly as Knife Attack Shocks Neighbourhood!

The gang also demanded that Binu transfer the ownership of his five cars to one of them.

In a shocking incident from Kozhikode, a buffalo’s dead body was found in a river, tied to a stone and partially submerged, sparking outrage among locals. The incident took place in the Chaliyar river near Cheruvadi in Kodiyathur, where residents were left horrified by the cruel and disturbing discovery of the animal.

The body was found in the Cheruvadi area, which falls under Ward 15 of the Kodiyathur Panchayat. Authorities and locals are still unsure whether the buffalo was drowned while it was alive or whether its body was dumped into the river after death. Adding to the mystery, the animal was found with a tag number attached to its ear, which may help in identifying its owner or tracing its origin.

After being alerted by residents, Ward member Kasna immediately informed the police and other local representatives. Soon after, officials and villagers rushed to the spot to assess the situation. The buffalo’s body was seen half-sunk in the water, making recovery difficult. A JCB was brought in to carefully pull the carcass out of the river.

Following the recovery, the buffalo’s body was buried in a nearby plot of land as per procedure. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances behind the incident.

Kollam: A Motor Vehicle Inspector has been suspended over her alleged involvement in a driving licence scam, triggering shock within the department. Ajayakumari, an MVI at the Kollam RTO office and a resident of Meenad in Chathannoor, has been accused of serious misconduct just days before her scheduled retirement.

According to officials, she allegedly shared the Motor Vehicle Department’s official user ID and password with a private driving school. This unauthorized access is believed to have been used to fraudulently process and issue driving licences, raising concerns about systemic misuse and lapses in oversight.

The timing of the suspension has added to the drama, as her colleagues were reportedly preparing for her farewell function when the order was issued. The sudden action has not only halted those plans but also sent a strong message about accountability within the department.

Authorities have now launched a detailed investigation to determine the extent of the fraud and whether more individuals or institutions were involved in the malpractice. Officials are also examining how long the alleged misuse of credentials had been taking place and how many licences may have been issued through fraudulent means.

The Transport Department has emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty, as it looks to tighten systems and prevent such breaches in the future.

Currently, 25 children are admitted, but the health department has assured that no one is in serious condition.
Shigella is a bacterial infection that inflames the digestive system. Its common symptoms include diarrhoea, stomach pain, fever, nausea, and vomiting. In some cases, patients can also get bloody diarrhoea and severe dehydration. The bacteria spreads very easily through poor hygiene and contaminated food, causing quick outbreaks, especially in crowded areas.

Shigella Symptoms: These Early Signs Could Signal a Serious Gut Infection!
Children under five years old are one of the most vulnerable groups. Their immune systems are still developing, making it hard for their bodies to fight the infection. Small children are also at a higher risk of dehydration, which is one of the most serious complications of a Shigella infection.Elderly people are another high-risk group. Dr. Bhanu Mishra, a Consultant Nephrologist at Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, explains that people with weak immune systems can get severe infections. This includes cancer patients, people with HIV, those on immunity-suppressing drugs, or anyone with a chronic illness. Pregnant women and people with diabetes or kidney disease also face higher risks.Dehydration from constant diarrhoea and vomiting is one of the biggest dangers of a Shigella infection. It can cause dizziness, weakness, and low blood pressure. You must see a doctor immediately if you have a high fever that won't go away, extreme thirst, a dry mouth, or feel confused. The infection spreads through contaminated water, food, and poor hand hygiene.Washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water greatly reduces the risk of infection. Always drink clean, safe water and eat freshly prepared meals. Make sure to wash fruits and vegetables well before eating and store all food items hygienically. You should never ignore symptoms like high fever, constant vomiting, bloody diarrhoea, extreme weakness, or passing less urine. Getting diagnosed and treated early can prevent serious problems and stop the infection from spreading. Good hygiene, safe water, and properly cooked food are key to staying safe.
