Accused have criminal background

Disguise in burqa to steal goods

According to police, as quoted by The Hindu report, the accused wore burqas to hide their identity while entering the shop. A video of one suspect entering the shop has also surfaced online. In the viral video, one of them can be seen in a burqa and face wrapped with a stole.

The stolen items included 444 DDR4 RAM units, 279 SSDs, and some cash.

Arrest and recovery

The accused have been identified as Hemant Manjunath, 21, a laptop technician, and his father Manjunath M., 45, a former waterman. Both live in T. Channayya Layout, according to The Hindu.

Police said they detained one suspect on March 15 near a hotel in Chanakya Layout along with a two-wheeler used in the crime. During questioning, he admitted to the theft and named his father as his accomplice.

Both were later arrested. Police recovered most of the stolen items from them.

Motive and planning

Investigators said the accused had rented the house to the shop owner and knew about his business. They believed the shop was doing well and planned the theft out of jealousy.

What happened on Sunday night

The incident took place around 10 pm on Sunday on 16th Main road between BTM Layout and Jayadeva Junction. According to police, the three were riding together on one bike in the middle of traffic, reported the Times of India.

Two of them were not wearing helmets, which itself is a violation of traffic rules. What made the situation worse was that one of the pillion riders, who was wearing a helmet, was seen drinking from what appeared to be a beer bottle while the bike was moving.

Police take suo motu action

Taking note of the viral video, Mico Layout traffic police registered a case on their own (suo motu). They tracked the vehicle using its registration number (KA-04JS-8028) and contacted the owner.

The rider was identified as Dhanush, 30, from Yeshwantpur, who works at Sapthagiri Medical College. The other two were Apoorva, also known as Prapurna, 30, from Bommanahalli, working at Vydehi Hospital, and Avinash, 37, from MC Layout, associated with Chamundeshwari Medical College, the TOI report added.

What the accused told police

According to police, the three admitted to their actions. They said they had gone to a bar and restaurant to celebrate completing their MS degree in orthopaedics.

Before leaving, Avinash reportedly carried a half-finished beer bottle with him and continued drinking while sitting on the bike as a pillion rider.

Charges filed against them

The police have registered an FIR against all three for rash or negligent riding on a public road, which could endanger human life. They have also been booked under sections related to public nuisance and traffic violations.

This reportedly led to a heated argument between the couple.

Argument turns serious

During the argument, Rangaswamy became very angry and shouted at Kavya. Reports say he used harsh words while arguing with her. The situation quickly became tense inside the house. The argument is said to have turned ugly, and Rangaswamy was reportedly about to get physical during the fight.

These allegations are being carefully examined as part of the ongoing probe.

Police say Nikhil is believed to be the main organiser behind the parties. He is suspected of arranging the locations and planning the gatherings.

Another accused, Dixon, is believed to have played a key role in bringing women into the group's network. According to investigators, he used social media platforms to befriend young women.

After gaining their trust, he would ask them to introduce him to their friends. This helped the group expand its network and invite more people to the parties.

Police are now examining digital communication and social media accounts linked to the suspects.

Police say that on the night of the incident, the husband was asleep in the house. The accused reportedly used a pillow to press against his face and suffocate him. The man died due to lack of oxygen.

Arrest and further investigation

Following the confession and evidence from the post-mortem report, the Hebbur police arrested Asha and her lover. Both accused have now been sent to judicial custody.

Police said the case might have been closed as a natural death if the victim’s sister had not raised doubts. Her persistence helped bring the truth to light. Investigators are continuing their probe to gather more evidence and complete the legal process.
