After this, they again pretend to walk and play for a few steps, trying to look normal.

Second theft and quick escape

Moments later, the same trick is repeated. The boy on the shoulders removes another bulb in a similar way. The group then quickly moves towards a nearby parked auto.

All three youths are then rushing towards the auto and leaving the spot in it within seconds. The entire act appears planned and coordinated.

Argument over FASTag balance

What happened on Sunday night

The incident took place around 10 pm on Sunday on 16th Main road between BTM Layout and Jayadeva Junction. According to police, the three were riding together on one bike in the middle of traffic, reported the Times of India.

Two of them were not wearing helmets, which itself is a violation of traffic rules. What made the situation worse was that one of the pillion riders, who was wearing a helmet, was seen drinking from what appeared to be a beer bottle while the bike was moving.

Police take suo motu action

Taking note of the viral video, Mico Layout traffic police registered a case on their own (suo motu). They tracked the vehicle using its registration number (KA-04JS-8028) and contacted the owner.

The rider was identified as Dhanush, 30, from Yeshwantpur, who works at Sapthagiri Medical College. The other two were Apoorva, also known as Prapurna, 30, from Bommanahalli, working at Vydehi Hospital, and Avinash, 37, from MC Layout, associated with Chamundeshwari Medical College, the TOI report added.

What the accused told police

According to police, the three admitted to their actions. They said they had gone to a bar and restaurant to celebrate completing their MS degree in orthopaedics.

Before leaving, Avinash reportedly carried a half-finished beer bottle with him and continued drinking while sitting on the bike as a pillion rider.

Charges filed against them

The police have registered an FIR against all three for rash or negligent riding on a public road, which could endanger human life. They have also been booked under sections related to public nuisance and traffic violations.

The main accused has been identified as Mustafa, a resident of Kampli village in Koppal taluk. Police said he was in contact with a Hindu student from a village in Kushtagi taluk, who was studying nursing in Koppal.

Local youths noticed the two together in Koppal city and became suspicious. They stopped Mustafa and questioned him.

According to the activists, they checked Mustafa’s phone and found photos and alleged obscene videos. They claimed the content involved not just the student but also several other Hindu girls from the district.

They also alleged that Mustafa was involved in illegal ‘Matka’ gambling activities.

Activists further claimed that Mustafa tried to destroy evidence by quickly performing a factory reset on his phone during the confrontation.

Angry Hindu activists brought Mustafa to the city police station. Hundreds of young men gathered outside and protested. During questioning, Mustafa told the police he loved the girl and was already married to her. But Hindu groups are treating this as a case of organised 'love jihad'.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) also stepped in and called for a detailed investigation. District President Dr. Sangamesh Hiremath led a group to meet Superintendent of Police Dr. Ram L. Arasiddi.

They submitted Mustafa’s two mobile phones and other documents to the police, demanding strict action.

Dr. Hiremath said the case may not be a simple relationship matter but could involve a larger network. He urged police to recover deleted data and take strong legal steps if wrongdoing is found.

The couple had known each other since childhood and later got into a relationship. They eventually married but kept it secret due to fear of family reactions, as it was an interfaith marriage.

Shazia also did not tell her family about the marriage. Her father is said to be influential, which made her more anxious about revealing the truth.

On the day of the incident, Shazia discovered her husband’s body and informed the authorities.

Before taking the extreme step, she tried calling her mother twice, but there was no response. She then sent messages asking for forgiveness and revealing that she had married without informing them.

Police said Reddy left behind a suicide note. In it, he expressed regret for causing trouble and said he could not fulfil his responsibilities towards his wife.
