Investigators suspect the accused were under the influence of drugs. During the confrontation, one of the men allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Ramachandra several times before fleeing the scene.

Traffic Blocks Escape Attempt

After the attack, the accused reportedly tried to escape in the cab they had arrived in. However, heavy traffic in the area prevented the vehicle from moving.

As local residents began chasing them, the two men abandoned the cab and ran into a nearby bakery in an attempt to hide.

Witnesses said the accused created chaos inside the bakery by picking up glass bottles and throwing them at people trying to stop them.

During the incident, one of the accused allegedly shouted that he was from Kerala and called for fellow Malayalis to help him. Police have not commented on the exact circumstances surrounding the statement and are verifying witness accounts.

Locals Nab Accused

Despite the attacks, local residents managed to lock both accused inside the bakery and immediately informed the Parappana Agrahara police.

Officers reached the spot, took the two men into custody and searched their belongings. During the search, police recovered small suspicious packets, which are believed to contain synthetic drugs. The seized material has been sent for forensic examination.

Delhi Police have arrested a 31-year-old software engineer who was earning nearly Rs 30 lakh per year at a multinational company. Police say he left his corporate job to run a fake online trading racket that cheated hundreds of investors across India. The accused, identified as Ravi Rathore, is believed to be the main person behind the fraud. Police arrested him along with two associates after a multi-state operation that covered Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.

How the fraud worked

According to Delhi Police, as reported by India Today, the accused created a fake mobile application and a fraudulent website. The platform was presented as an online trading service. Victims were promised high guaranteed returns with no financial risk.

The syndicate mainly targeted people interested in stock market investments. They told investors that the system used advanced software tools that could generate large profits safely.

Police said the group used convincing methods to gain trust and encourage people to invest money.

Complaint that started the investigation

The case came to light after a resident of Delhi’s Paharganj area filed a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The complainant said he was contacted by unknown callers. They persuaded him to download the trading app and start investing.

Trusting their claims, he transferred Rs 10,000 through several online transactions.

At first, the app showed fake daily profits to build confidence. The display was designed to look real and encourage further deposits.

Demands for more money

When the victim tried to withdraw his money, the operators allegedly asked him to deposit more funds.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohit Rajveer Singh said that every time the victim attempted to withdraw money, he was told to pay extra amounts. The excuses included taxes, account activation fees, and processing charges.

These repeated demands made the victim suspicious. After reading government warnings about cyber fraud, he realised he had been cheated and reported the matter to authorities.

FIR and investigation

An FIR was registered on May 1. After that, Delhi Police started a detailed investigation.

The probe included technical surveillance, IP address tracking, server log analysis, and examination of financial transactions.

Investigators found that the backend system and control panel of the fake app were operated from Bengaluru. The calling operations and financial trail were traced to Sanawad in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh.

Police formed two separate teams to catch the suspects in both states.

Arrests and recovered items

Ravi Rathore was arrested in Bengaluru on May 3. Police recovered two laptops, a mobile phone, and an SUV that was allegedly bought using money from the fraud.

On May 5, another team arrested his associates, Sudama and Vikash Rathod, from Sanawad.

During raids at what police described as a call centre, officers seized 17 mobile phones, five computers, 13 SIM cards, bank account records, ATM cards, and large amounts of digital data. The data included details of thousands of potential victims.

How victims were targeted

Investigators said the group hired female callers to contact victims. The aim was to gain trust and encourage male investors to put in more money.

Police believe this strategy helped the group convince people to invest larger sums.

Role of each accused

Police said Rathore used his background in software development to create and maintain the fake trading platform.

Sudama allegedly funded the operations. Vikash handled calls and communicated with investors to promote the scheme.

Scale of the fraud

Technical analysis showed that 636 victim accounts were created on the platform. Police found around 14,232 transactions linked to the racket. The total amount involved was nearly Rs 99.77 crore.

Officials said part of the money was used to buy flats and other properties in Indore. Luxury vehicles were also purchased.

Possible wider network

Investigators suspect that the accused may be linked to similar fraud cases in other states. Police are now tracing the full money trail. They are also checking mule accounts used to move funds and identifying more victims.

The case highlights how online fraud can look real and convincing. Police action has exposed a large network that allegedly used technology to cheat investors.

Investigations are still ongoing. Authorities say more details may emerge as they continue tracking financial records and digital evidence. The arrests are a major step in stopping the racket and protecting future investors.

Bengaluru's ambitious plan to build a double-decker road integrated with Namma Metro Phase 3 has come under fresh scrutiny after a new study by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) questioned its long-term economic and transport benefits. The technical report, prepared by Prof. Ashish Verma of the IISc Sustainable Transportation Lab, as quoted by NDTV suggests that combining an elevated road with the Metro corridor could reduce the overall value of the project and weaken the purpose of investing in mass public transport.

Metro Performs Better Without Elevated Road

According to the report submitted to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) for the integrated project is estimated at only 9.07 per cent. This is well below the generally accepted benchmark of 14 per cent for such infrastructure investments.

However, the study found that if the elevated road component is removed and the Metro project is considered on its own, the EIRR increases sharply to 18 per cent.

The findings differ from the government's earlier estimate, which projected an EIRR of 16.5 per cent for the combined project.

Study Predicts Shift Towards Private Vehicles

The report argues that adding more road space may encourage people to use private vehicles instead of public transport.

Researchers estimate that by 2041, bus travel could fall by 6.4 per cent, while Metro usage may decline by 1.4 per cent if the double-decker road is built.

At the same time, car travel is expected to rise by 3.8 per cent. Two-wheeler trips could increase by 1.28 per cent, while travel by auto-rickshaws and taxis may grow by 2.8 per cent.

According to the researchers, this shift goes against the main objective of Metro systems, which are designed to reduce dependence on private vehicles.

Daily Metro Ridership May Fall

The study also projects a slight decline in Metro ridership.

Daily passenger numbers on Bengaluru's Phase 3 corridors are expected to fall from 8.09 lakh under a Metro-only system to 7.98 lakh if the double-decker road is introduced.

Although the difference appears small, researchers say it reflects a gradual shift towards personal transport that could become more noticeable over time.

Environmental Impact Also Highlighted

Apart from transport patterns, the report warns of higher pollution and fuel consumption.

It estimates that the proposed corridors would generate an additional 17,012 kilograms of carbon dioxide every day. Daily emissions would also include around 85.9 kg of carbon monoxide, 12.6 kg of nitrogen oxides, 19.5 kg of hydrocarbons and 1.1 kg of PM2.5 particles, according to the Hindu.

Fuel consumption is expected to increase by more than 7,000 litres each day, adding over ₹6.45 lakh in daily fuel costs.

Debate Over Bengaluru's Future Transport Continues

The findings are likely to add momentum to the ongoing debate over Bengaluru's transport planning.

Urban mobility experts and citizen groups have repeatedly argued that future investments should focus on improving public transport instead of expanding road capacity for private vehicles.

With the IISc study now raising concerns over economic returns, Metro ridership and environmental impact, the future of the proposed double-decker model is expected to remain a key topic of discussion as the project moves forward.

K-RIDE has announced that Bengaluru's long-delayed suburban rail project is on track to begin operations by December 2028, with Corridor 2 expected to be the first to open. Construction and land acquisition have accelerated across key sections.

After years of delays, Bengaluru's long-awaited suburban rail project has entered a new phase, with Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) confirming that the first train services are expected to begin by December 2028. As reported by Money Control, the agency says the project will not only improve public transport but also open up new areas for housing, business and future urban growth.

The suburban rail network, stretching nearly 148 kilometres across four corridors, was first proposed in 1983. It received approval from the Central Government in 2020, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in June 2022. Although the original target was to complete the project by 2026, construction delays pushed the timeline further.

K-RIDE Managing Director Lakshman Singh, who took charge in December 2025, told Money Control that construction has now gathered pace across the priority corridors.

According to Singh, land acquisition for the main alignments and stations on Corridor 2, connecting Byappanahalli and Chikkabanavara, and Corridor 4, linking Heelalige with Rajanukunte, has largely been completed. The remaining land requirement mainly relates to flyovers and rail overbridges.

Construction has already started at stations on both corridors, while several major civil contracts have either been awarded or are in the final stages of tendering.

For the 46-kilometre Corridor 4, two out of four civil packages have already been tendered, while the remaining two are expected to be floated shortly. On Corridor 2, two of the three construction packages have been awarded, with fresh bids invited for the remaining section.

Corridors 1 and 3 Also Moving Forward

Singh said Indian Railways has approved the alignments for Corridor 1, which will connect KSR Bengaluru with Kempegowda International Airport through Devanahalli, and Corridor 3, linking Kengeri with Whitefield via KSR Bengaluru.

Officials are currently carrying out joint land measurements to identify the exact land needed before the formal acquisition process begins.

K-RIDE expects to complete most of the required land acquisition for these two corridors by the end of this year or early next year.

Responding to questions about repeated delays, Singh told Money Control railway projects of this scale naturally take several years to complete.

Unlike Metro construction, much of the suburban rail work is being carried out next to active railway tracks where passenger and freight trains continue to operate. This limits access to work sites and requires strict safety measures throughout construction.

He explained that even sections built at ground level involve extensive earthwork, track preparation and transitions between elevated and surface sections, making the work more complicated than many people expect.

While all four corridors remain part of the approved project, K-RIDE has decided to complete them in phases.

The agency's immediate focus is on Corridors 2 and 4, followed by Corridor 1. Within Corridor 3, priority will initially be given to the Bengaluru Cantonment-Kengeri section, while the Bengaluru Cantonment-Whitefield stretch will be developed later.

K-RIDE has committed to starting suburban rail operations by December 2028. If the full Corridor 2 cannot be completed by then, the Chikkabanavara-Yeshwanthpur section will be opened first.

Officials believe Yeshwanthpur will become an important transport hub where suburban rail, Metro, Indian Railways and BMTC bus services connect seamlessly, allowing passengers to change between different modes of transport more easily.

Unlike the Metro, which mainly follows major roads, the suburban rail network runs alongside existing railway lines that pass through many less-developed parts of Bengaluru.

To prepare for future expansion, officials are considering the European Train Control System (ETCS), a signalling technology that can support higher-speed regional train services.

The arrested individuals are Dev Harsh from Mariyappanapalya and Aryan. The police are now on the lookout for two others, Chand and Mrinal, who fled the scene. The constables who were attacked, Hanumantha Alagundi and Rudrappa, were on patrol duty in Akashvani Layout when the accused behaved badly with them. Officials said that the policemen received treatment for their injuries and have since recovered.

Here's what happened. Around 3 AM on May 1st, near Dasarahalli's Akashvani Layout, four youths were having a drinking session in their car. The group included B.Tech students Harsh, Chand, and Mrinal, along with Aryan, a private company employee. At the same time, Amruthahalli police constables Rudrappa and Hanumantha were on their patrol rounds on that route.

The policemen objected to them drinking in the middle of the road. This angered one of the youths, who started abusing the cops, shouting, 'Karnataka Police Ma*** Chor'. When one of the constables tried to get his lathi from the bike, all four of them grabbed him from behind.

The accused then tore the constable's uniform, punched and kicked the policemen, and fled the scene. Following the incident, an FIR was registered at the Amruthahalli police station based on a complaint filed by the injured constable, Rudrappa. The police eventually tracked down and arrested two of them using the car's registration number. An investigation is underway to find the absconding duo, Chand and Mrinal, police officials confirmed.

Nagendra died inside the burning vehicle, while Ramya survived with serious injuries. She was first taken to Tumakuru District Hospital and is currently receiving treatment.

Police Probe Underway

Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok K.V. said the initial investigation suggests Nagendra detonated the petrol bomb himself after allegedly kidnapping Ramya. Police are recording the statements of the injured woman and the cab driver to establish the exact sequence of events.

Investigators are also examining whether the attack was planned in advance. The burnt vehicle has been seized for forensic examination, while the explosion briefly disrupted traffic on the national highway.

Family alleges abusive behaviour on road

The court said maintenance should be decided after examining the financial condition of both spouses and not on the assumption that a husband must always support his wife.

The ruling came while hearing a petition challenging a family court order that had directed a husband to pay his estranged wife ₹20,000 every month as interim maintenance, according to a report by the Times of India.

The wife, however, told the court that she required financial support to repay debts that she had allegedly taken for her marriage. However, she did not submit details of the loans, pending payments or monthly instalments in support of her claim.

Justice Chillakur Sumalatha allowed the husband's petition and set aside the family court's interim maintenance order.

The court said that where a wife is financially secure, earns more than her husband and does not have additional responsibilities such as caring for children, maintenance should not be awarded solely on the basis of gender.

The judge further observed that a spouse seeking maintenance must show that they are unable to maintain the same standard of living without financial assistance.

Thief entered temple around 2 AM

According to police sources, the accused entered the temple alone at around 2:00 AM.

Officials said the man first tried to open the hundi, or donation box, using his hands. However, when he failed to break it open, he allegedly used a trident kept near the deity inside the temple.

Police said the accused picked up the trishul and repeatedly struck the donation box until it broke open. After collecting the cash stored inside, he fled the temple premises.

The theft remained unnoticed for several hours.

Temple staff discovered broken hundi in morning

The incident came to light later in the morning when temple priests arrived to begin daily rituals and prayers.

According to temple authorities, the priests found the hundi broken and cash missing from inside the donation box. Temple trustees later approached the Indiranagar Police Station and lodged an official complaint regarding the theft.

Police have now registered a case and started an investigation.

Officials are currently examining CCTV footage from the temple and nearby areas to identify and trace the accused.

Soon after the video surfaced online, it spread rapidly across social media platforms.

Many users reacted strongly after watching the accused clearly visible in the footage during the alleged theft.

Her historic performance began on August 21, 2025, at 3.30 pm and ended successfully on August 30 at 3.30 pm. The marathon dance performance took place at Dr. G. Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College in Ajjarakadu, Udupi.

Eyewitnesses said the situation quickly turned serious as the man behaved in an unstable manner. Many feared he could harm himself at any moment.

However, alert citizens acted quickly. They spoke to him calmly, held him back, and stopped him from hurting himself. Their timely action helped avoid a tragic outcome.

The incident took place under the limits of Subramanyapura Police Station. Police reached the spot soon after and took the man into custody.

Officials said Gonda had come to Bengaluru from Goa two days earlier to stay with his brother. He was reportedly unemployed and under the influence of alcohol at the time.

Police also said he appeared to be dealing with mental health issues. His family was traced and called to the station. After counselling, he was safely handed over to them.

During the incident, the man claimed he was being harassed by truck drivers. Police said they are checking these claims as part of their inquiry.
