Police hunt is on for a six-member group, who barged into a spa and salon in Bengaluru's Vidyaranyapura, assaulted and threatened employees, and demanded money while accusing the establishment of illegal activities. According to a complaint filed with the Vidyaranyapura police, four women and two men entered the Y Salon and Spa on Vidyaranyapura Main Road on the night of October 3.

An FIR has been registered against a group of women and two men for allegedly barging into a spa in Vidyaranyapura, assaulting staff and demanding money while accusing the establishment of being involved in illegal activities.

According to the complaint, four women and two men entered My Salon and Spa on Vidyaranyapura Main Road on the night of October 3. CCTV footage reportedly captured the group creating a disturbance and allegedly assaulting the staff.

The group allegedly claimed that illegal activities were being carried out at the spa and demanded ₹5 lakh from the management. According to the complaint filed by spa owner Nayana, the accused also threatened to post videos defaming the establishment on social media if the money was not paid.

The complainant alleged that the group later reduced the demand to ₹1.5 lakh. Fearing further threats, the management allegedly paid ₹1 lakh.

The group reportedly left the premises after allegedly demanding an additional ₹50,000.

The Vidyaranyapura police have registered an FIR in connection with the incident and are attempting to trace the accused.

Group allegedly claimed to be linked to media

The complainant, a 26-year-old employee, alleged that the group claimed to be associated with the media and an organisation. They allegedly accused the staff of being involved in illegal activities and threatened to report them to authorities, according to The Hindu.

The group initially allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh from the management. The complainant said the accused later agreed to take a smaller amount, following which the frightened employees arranged around Rs 96,000 and handed it over.

The group allegedly continued to demand another Rs 50,000, while threatening the employees with further action.

‘Mission Chabutra’ was launched in 2015 by then South Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police V. Satyanarayana to curb crimes involving youngsters, discourage unnecessary late-night loitering and prevent potential anti-social activities.

Given the rising number of cases of youth gathering on street corners and outside residential areas late into the night, the intensified patrols are designed to maintain public order, protect local communities, and intercept criminal elements before illegal activities can take root.

In a viral video, a group of Hyderabad police personnel carried their batons in their hands and patrolled the Santosh Nagar area, which was identified as one of the key focus zones for the ongoing security drive. The police spotted several youths loitering late at night and questioned them about their presence.

Some attempted to flee when they saw police personnel approaching, while others were chased, detained, and questioned. Those found outside without a valid reason were counselled and later released with warnings.

In a viral video, the woman was seen running behind the child, grabbing her aggressively before launching into a relentless physical assault that included repeated slaps and throwing her to the ground. Mercilessly, the young girl was dragged along the ground by her hands as she struggled desperately to free herself from the clutches of the attacker.

However, the locals immediately intervened and rescued the girl from the clutches of the accused, who appeared to exhibit erratic behavior while attempting to approach the child again, before vigilant residents safely escorted her away.

According to local reports, the girl’s father, Pankaj, stated that her daughter, Amania, was having a problem with her legs and wears special footwear. It was reported that her tuition teacher was among the first to rush to the scene and help rescue the terrified child from the attacker.

Amania’s mother also rushed to the scene, but the accused allegedly abused and threatened her as well, causing the mother to fall on the road during the harrowing confrontation.

The Accused Has Mental Health Problems

The victim’s family has reportedly filed a complaint with the police, while authorities have taken the CCTV footage into possession and launched an investigation into the alleged assault.

The family and some residents have claimed that the accused woman has a mental health problem, although police have not confirmed the claim and said they are verifying the facts. The accused was identified as Anmol, alias Boni, and her mother alleged that both families had an old dispute, claiming that her daughter acted out of anger.

The investigating officer is reportedly verifying the allegations, including the claims about the woman’s mental health and the alleged old dispute between the two families. The police will take further action based on the findings.

Bharti Airtel is raising the price of its postpaid plans by Rs 50, but customers will get a new international roaming benefit as part of the revamped plans. The new Airtel postpaid plans will come into effect from October 8, 2026. Existing postpaid subscribers will also be moved to the nearest higher plan within a month, according to company sources.

What is changing in Airtel postpaid plans?

The key change is the addition of one free international roaming trip every year. Airtel said the complimentary roaming benefit is worth Rs 2,000.

Customers can activate the free roaming pack whenever they choose. It will remain valid for five days and includes 5GB of data, 60 minutes of calls and 25 outgoing SMS. Incoming SMS will also be free.

For customers using Airtel family postpaid plans, the benefit will not be limited to the primary account holder. Every family member will be eligible for the free international roaming offer.

Airtel postpaid price hike explained

In practical terms, Airtel's revamped postpaid plans represent a Rs 50 increase over the current tariffs. The company said the new plans retain existing benefits while adding international roaming.

Airtel is also continuing features such as fast lane technology, unlimited data and network-level protection against spam and fraudulent links.

Entertainment benefits remain

The telecom operator's postpaid plans also include entertainment subscriptions and access to its Airtel Postpaid Advantage Club.

Members can get access to experiences such as comedy shows, movie premieres and concerts.

The new plans are therefore aimed at customers who regularly travel overseas and want roaming included with their monthly mobile service, rather than purchasing a separate roaming pack for every trip.

PM2.5 refers to fine airborne particles measuring 2.5 micrometres or less in diameter. Because of their small size, these particles can penetrate deep into the lungs, while some components and resulting biological effects can influence the wider body.

Dr Rama Joshi, gynae-onco surgeon and chairman of Gynae Oncology and Robotic Surgery at Fortis Gurugram, told news agency PTI that prolonged PM2.5 exposure was of interest because it had been associated with inflammation, oxidative stress and other systemic biological effects.

Oxidative stress occurs when harmful molecules called free radicals overwhelm the body's ability to neutralise them. Together with chronic inflammation, it can contribute to cellular damage. These processes are relevant to cancer biology, although their presence does not mean that cancer will necessarily develop.

Joshi said research had reported associations between air pollution and aspects of women's reproductive health. This has prompted scientists to investigate whether environmental exposure could also form part of the wider set of factors influencing cancer risk.

She cautioned, however, that an association between pollution and a health condition does not prove that one directly causes the other. Findings on gynaecological cancers remain inconsistent, and more India-specific evidence is needed.

What does the Indian research say?

A recent India-wide study examined the relationship between environmental exposure and reproductive health among Indian women, adding to concerns about the possible effects of prolonged air pollution exposure.

The study reported that women exposed to PM2.5 concentrations above 40 micrograms per cubic metre had 24% higher odds of delayed menarche and a 23% higher hazard of early menopause.

Menarche refers to a girl's first menstrual period, while menopause marks the end of menstrual cycles. The findings suggest a possible relationship between air pollution and the timing of these reproductive milestones.

Researchers analysed data from India's National Family Health Survey alongside satellite-derived estimates of PM2.5 exposure and other environmental indicators. The analysis included nearly 1.8 lakh women aged 15 to 24 for the assessment of menarche and nearly three lakh women aged 30 to 49 for the analysis of menopause.

Stronger associations were reported in northern India, including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and parts of Uttar Pradesh.

These results are relevant to reproductive health research, but they do not establish that pollution causes gynaecological cancer. Changes in the timing of menstruation or menopause are not, by themselves, proof of cancer risk. Further research would be needed to determine whether, and how, these findings relate to cancer development.

Can toxic air increase the risk of gynaecological cancers?

Dr Aditya Sarin, vice chairman of Medical Oncology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, as quoted by PTI, said emerging evidence provided a reasonable basis to investigate air pollution as a potential contributing factor in the wider cancer-risk environment.

He said chronic exposure to PM2.5 could promote inflammation, oxidative stress and cellular changes, which are biological mechanisms relevant to cancer development.

“The emerging association with reproductive health makes it important to investigate whether prolonged pollution exposure may also contribute to gynaecological cancers,” Sarin said.

He added that causation had not yet been established, but the possibility deserved further study, particularly in highly polluted regions such as Delhi-NCR.

Gynaecological cancers do not have one common cause. Endometrial cancer, which develops in the lining of the uterus, is associated with established risk factors including obesity, prolonged oestrogen exposure, diabetes, increasing age and certain inherited genetic conditions.

Ovarian cancer has a different risk profile, with factors including age, family history and inherited genetic mutations. Researchers are investigating whether long-term environmental exposure could interact with known risk factors or influence biological pathways involved in these diseases.

For now, pollution should be viewed as an area of scientific investigation rather than a proven standalone cause of gynaecological cancer.

What symptoms should women watch for?

While research into environmental risk factors continues, doctors advise women to pay attention to symptoms that may require medical assessment.

Persistent or unusual changes should not be dismissed, particularly when they differ from a woman's normal menstrual pattern.

Symptoms that warrant medical evaluation include:
Abnormal uterine bleeding or unusually heavy or prolonged periods
Bleeding after menopause
Persistent pelvic or abdominal discomfort
Unexplained or persistent abdominal bloating
Changes in urinary or bowel habits that do not resolve

These symptoms can have several causes and do not automatically indicate cancer. However, seeking medical advice can help identify the underlying problem and ensure that any serious condition is assessed promptly.

Joshi said women should focus on risk factors that are already known and can be managed or monitored. Maintaining a healthy weight, staying physically active, managing diabetes and other metabolic conditions, understanding family history and seeking timely evaluation for abnormal bleeding remain important.

Why Delhi-NCR needs more research

The issue is particularly relevant to Delhi-NCR, where prolonged exposure to elevated PM2.5 concentrations has become a public health concern. Scientists are examining whether the biological effects of long-term exposure extend beyond respiratory and cardiovascular health to other organs and systems.

However, establishing a link with gynaecological cancer requires more than identifying biological mechanisms or associations with reproductive milestones. Researchers need larger, long-term studies that track pollution exposure alongside cancer diagnoses and account for other factors that can influence risk.

Such studies would help determine whether air pollution independently contributes to gynaecological cancers, how strong any association might be and whether certain groups of women face greater risks.

Experts say toxic air deserves attention as a possible environmental health factor, but women should not assume that exposure means they will develop cancer. The priority remains further scientific research, awareness of established risk factors and timely medical evaluation of concerning symptoms.

Actor Rajpal Yadav was back before the Supreme Court on Tuesday in a long-running financial dispute linked to his 2010 film Ata Pata Laapata. This time, the hearing took an unusual turn when Chief Justice Surya Kant suggested that the actor make a good film, entertain audiences again and rebuild his image.

The remarks came as the court considered Yadav's latest payment towards the money at the centre of the dispute. His counsel told the bench that Rs 1.15 crore had been deposited in the Registry, following the court's previous directions.

The bench comprising CJI Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana also heard that a prospective buyer had been found for Yadav's property. According to his counsel, the buyer was willing to deposit Rs 85 lakh through demand draft by October 12.

The Supreme Court, however, made it clear that Yadav had not yet satisfied it with his conduct. The bench said it was only giving him 'breathing time'.

Yadav was personally present in court and explained the financial difficulties he said he had faced over the years. The actor told the bench that he had worked in around 200 to 250 films but had suffered losses of Rs 200-250 crore over the last 13 years. He specifically referred to Ata Pata Laapata, saying around Rs 17 crore had gone into the film.

According to Yadav, the film was supposed to be released in 1,200 theatres but did not eventually release in even a single theatre. He also said a press conference had been held against him following the dispute.

The CJI then asked whether Yadav had a new film coming up.

"Make a good movie and entertain people again," the Chief Justice said, suggesting that doing so could help Yadav rebuild his image. He also made a light-hearted reference to lawyers who, according to him, could make good actors and suggested Yadav consider them for a film.

The exchange added an unusual human element to a hearing otherwise centred on payments, property and Yadav's pending legal proceedings.

The immediate issue before the Supreme Court was Yadav's compliance with earlier directions. His counsel informed the bench that Rs 1.15 crore had been submitted. The court was also told that a buyer was ready to pay Rs 85 lakh for Yadav's property, with the amount to be deposited in the Registry by October 12.

The company official side of the case has been seeking recovery of money that it says remains payable under the financial arrangements.

The Supreme Court had previously given Yadav additional time while considering his plea against the consequences of the cheque-bounce convictions. On September 15, the court extended his exemption from surrendering until October 5 and gave him a further opportunity to come up with a concrete payment proposal.

The Rajpal Yadav controversy dates back to a 2010 financial arrangement involving Murli Projects Pvt Ltd and Yadav's directorial film Ata Pata Laapata.

According to the case record, Yadav received financial assistance of Rs 5 crore for the film. The complainant later alleged that seven cheques of Rs 1.05 crore each issued in 2013 towards settlement were dishonoured. The dispute subsequently resulted in multiple complaints under the cheque-bounce provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

A 2012 agreement referred to repayment of around Rs 10.40 crore, according to the Delhi High Court record, with a schedule for repayment in instalments. The proceedings subsequently continued for years.

The Delhi High Court on July 10, 2026 upheld Yadav's conviction in seven cheque-bounce cases and sentenced him to three months' simple imprisonment in each case, with the sentences running concurrently. It also directed payment of Rs 1.05 crore to the complainant in each case, while amounts already deposited were to be adjusted.

The High Court had also criticised Yadav's conduct and noted that he had received several opportunities to honour commitments connected to the dispute. The case reached the Supreme Court after Yadav challenged the High Court proceedings.

Yadav's legal battle has involved repeated payment commitments and requests for additional time.

The Supreme Court had earlier said that his exemption from surrendering was subject to financial conditions. On September 8, it directed that he could remain exempt from surrendering subject to a Rs 5 crore deposit with the Registry. On September 15, the court gave him another opportunity to present a concrete proposal and directed a Rs 2 crore deposit.

The matter became more tense at the October 5 hearing when the court noted that the earlier deadline had not been met. The bench criticised Yadav's failure to comply and warned of the consequences, while also saying that dismissing his appeal could affect the complainant's ability to recover the money.

Tuesday's hearing therefore came against that backdrop. The court noted the Rs 1.15 crore payment and the proposed Rs 85 lakh payment, but made clear that it remained dissatisfied with Yadav's conduct.

To fund the ambitious project, Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore from Delhi-based Delhi-based M/s Murli Projects Pvt Ltd in 2010. However, the film suffered immense distribution hurdles, failed to hit theatres effectively, and flopped miserably at the box office, resulting in devastating financial losses for the actor.

The situation escalated when the repayment cheques issued by Yadav dishonoured, sparking a series of cheque-bounce cases. Over the years, the unpaid dues swelled with interest, leading to conviction by the courts and a three-month prison sentence.

At the heart of Yadav's explanation is the failure of Ata Pata Laapata, his directorial debut. He told the Supreme Court that the project caused major financial losses and that the film never received the theatrical release he had expected.

The actor's latest appearance before the court shows how a film project that began with a Rs 5 crore financial arrangement eventually developed into a prolonged legal dispute involving dishonoured cheques, multiple court proceedings, imprisonment and continuing repayment negotiations.

For now, the Supreme Court has given Yadav additional breathing space while the payment process continues. His proposed property sale and the promised Rs 85 lakh deposit will be significant to the next stage of the proceedings.

And amid the legal discussion, the CJI's unusual advice was clear: make a good film, entertain people again and use it to rebuild the image that Yadav says has suffered during years of financial and legal troubles.

Mudwa village, which is located in the Jagatpur police station area, witnessed a horrifying and lawless confrontation on Wednesday when a few local men aggressively intercepted a car carrying a woman and her young daughter.

The woman was travelling in the car, reportedly to drop her daughter at school around 7 am, when three men deliberately blocked the car on the way and aggressively began pelting it with bricks and stones, smashing its windows and windshield. One of the accused pelted stones at the rear window of the car, leaving the woman and daughter terrified.

Another accused picked up a brick and smashed the side window of the vehicle as the helpless mother and child cried for help from inside. Realising that the mother was filming the incident, the accused tried to hide his face cowardly, attempting to conceal his identity while continuing his aggressive intimidation.

The horrifying ordeal endured by the woman and her daughter was brought to the authorities at Jagatpur police station, which has jurisdiction over the area, prompting an immediate official response and an extensive manhunt to bring the culprits to book.

Three Men Identified and Arrested

Following the horrifying incident, the woman, Riddhima Singh, and her husband Mohit Singh filed a written complaint with the Jagatpur police station, and the First Information Report (FIR) was filed against three accused.

The authorities launched an investigation and managed to arrest three accused, identified as Ritesh Mishra, Shyam Mishra, and Satman Mishra, all residents of Mudwa village, as per the names in the FIR, alongside four to five unidentified persons involved in the horrifying incident that took place in Raebareli.

According to reports, the Jagatpur police have registered cases against all three accused under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 191(2) (Rioting), 109 (Attempt to murder), 115(2) (Voluntarily causing hurt), 131 (Assault or criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation), and 324(4) (Mischief causing damage), alongside several unidentified persons as investigations continue.

The Circle Inspector Girja Shankar Tripathi stated that three accused had been detained and that the viral video and the evidence with regard to the incident are being examined as part of the investigation. The police stated that efforts are underway to arrest other unidentified persons mentioned in the FIR.
