Languishing fifth in the Premier League, the FA Cup and Champions League are the Reds' only remaining hope of glory.

After visiting the Etihad, Slot's men face European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals over two legs on April 8 and 14.

Despite leading Liverpool to a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title less than a year ago, Slot is under huge pressure to end a difficult second season on a high if he is to remain in the job.

The rest of Liverpool's season will also be marked by a long farewell to Salah.

The Egyptian announced over the international break that he will leave at the end of the campaign having netted 255 goals so far for the club.

"Hopefully he can make his legacy even more special in the upcoming weeks and months where we still play for something special, but he will always leave this club as a legend," said Slot.

Chelsea v Port Vale, Saturday (1615)

Chelsea can ill afford to add a massive cup upset to a maelstrom of discontent on and off the pitch at Stamford Bridge.

Four consecutive defeats have plunged manager Liam Rosenior's future into doubt less than three months into his reign.

Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella have spoken out publicly in recent weeks, criticising the decision to sack Enzo Maresca in January.

A Port Vale side rooted to the bottom of League One and headed for the fourth tier should still pose little problems for the Premier League giants.

Arne Slot says he feels "complete support" from Liverpool's hierarchy despite mounting pressure on the Dutch manager after a disastrous season.

"And after we were, I think it's fair to say, outplayed over 90 minutes, we went to the away end and they were still singing for us and clapping for us, so that's support I've felt, we've felt constantly.

"And I think, but I've said this many times as well, the club knows in which period of time we are in, and in the meantime I feel complete support."

The Reds are fifth in the Premier League table, with the top five teams guaranteed Champions League football next season.

But they are just a point ahead of Chelsea, with Brentford and Everton also snapping at their heels.

Liverpool, crowned English champions for a record-equalling 20th time last season, have not won in the Premier League since late February.

Slot admitted his team face a crunch point in their season, with the second leg against PSG to come at Anfield three days after the Fulham match.

"That's completely normal at the end of the season," said the Dutchman. "It's not only for us, it's for all the teams.

"These are defining moments and periods of time. We've given ourselves not the best situation to be in, but... we're still in that tie (against PSG) and there are two massive games in the league coming up as well."

Slot also praised Andy Robertson after Liverpool announced on Thursday that the veteran defender would be leaving Anfield after a nine-year spell.

The Scotland captain, out of contract at the end of the season, has dropped down the pecking order since the arrival of left-back Milos Kerkez.

"He had many great seasons here as a player, but I think people got to know him as a great person as well," said Slot. "I got to know him as a great person."

Slot suggested the decision from the 32-year-old was due to limited first-team opportunities.

"Served this club for so many years, really loves this club," he said. "So it's been a great nine years for him at the club.

“But we saw also that this season he didn't play as much as he was used to. Still a lot, but not as much as he was used to.”

Antoine Griezmann's Barcelona story ended in the depths of misery but as he returns to Camp Nou in the Champions League quarter-finals, the French forward is desperate to close out his time with Atletico Madrid on the greatest of highs.

Diego Simeone's side, defeated in the 2014 and 2016 finals, have never lifted the trophy and veteran forward Griezmann, who will move to MLS side Orlando City at the end of the season, has not won a trophy with Atletico since the 2018 Europa League and subsequent UEFA Super Cup.

Griezmann switched Atletico for Barca in 2019, lasting just two years in the Catalan capital before returning to Simeone's side on loan, and making the return permanent in 2022.

During that short stint in Barca colours Griezmann missed out on Atletico's La Liga title win in 2021, a trophy that has eluded him through his career.

At Barca he was on the receiving end of the brutal 8-2 thrashing by Bayern in the 2020 Champions League quarter-finals, and failed to fit into the team alongside Lionel Messi.

Griezmann wants to leave Atletico, where he is the all-time top scorer with 211 goals, with major silverware in his hands at last, to add to the 2018 World Cup he won with France.

The first step towards that, since announcing the decision to depart last week, is at Camp Nou on Wednesday in the fifth meeting between Atletico and Barca this season.

Orlando wanted him to join by the end of March, but Griezmann said he would stay at Atletico, in no small part for a final shot at biggest trophy in the club game, as well as the Copa del Rey final.

The 35-year-old, one of Simeone's very greatest soldiers during the coach's 14-year reign, combined the work ethic the Argentine demanded with immense skill and quality.

"Griezmann is a maverick, it's unbelievable how he plays football," enthused Barca coach Hansi Flick last week. "It seems so light, it's like he's dancing."

- 'Something big' -

Griezmann may not have won as many trophies as he would have liked, but has often dazzled with his elegance and vision.

"I hope we can do something big," said Griezmann after helping Atletico crush Spurs 5-2 in the last 16 first leg, netting his side's second goal.

Griezmann has rocked Barca before, scoring twice in the 2016 quarter-finals a decade ago to send Atletico through and knock out Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar and Co, although that campaign ended in tears in the Milan final at the hands of rivals Real Madrid.

After Griezmann started in the 2-1 La Liga defeat by Barca on Saturday, there is the chance he may be used from the bench on Wednesday.

For much of this season Simeone has been sparing with his minutes, perhaps tipping him towards the decision to leave.

Another Atletico player who might one day follow the Frenchman's path to Barcelona is striker Julian Alvarez, who is likely to start at Camp Nou and has been frequently linked with the Catalans.

The Argentine caused consternation in the Spanish capital earlier this season when he said "maybe yes, maybe no" over whether he was planning to stay at the club beyond the summer.

Barca, still not in a healthy financial position, may not be able to produce the hefty transfer fee the Rojiblancos would demand, after Alvarez arrived from Manchester City for £81.5 million ($108m) in 2024.

Alvarez has had a mixed bag of a season, but Simeone has repeatedly backed the forward who is in better form after a winter drought.

"Thank God he is back," said Simeone after Alvarez netted against Barca in a 4-0 win in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg in February, with Griezmann also on target as Barca collapsed at the Metropolitano stadium.

Five-time winners Barca may be favourites for the tie but between Griezmann's desire for a grand finale and Alvarez's chance to dazzle his suitors, Atletico have the tools they need to cause an upset.

New Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi confirmed he will remain at the club next season even if they suffer relegation from the Premier League as he welcomed the biggest challenge of his career.

The Italian was appointed on a five-year deal on Tuesday with Spurs perilously poised just one point above the drop zone.

De Zerbi has just seven games to try and save Tottenham, who have not experienced life outside the top flight since 1978.

Reports suggested the former Brighton and Marseille boss had not keen to join Spurs before the end of the season, but was convinced by a lucrative five-year deal that put him among the highest paid coaches in the Premier League.

And he dismissed any suggestion of a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave if Spurs did go down.

"I signed five years of (a) contract because for me it is a big challenge," De Zerbi told an interview with the club's in-house media channel.

"I will be the coach of Tottenham a next season no matter what.

"Tottenham, especially in this moment, is maybe the the most important challenge in my career. I'm ready to start this challenge."

De Zerbi established a positive reputation for himself in England during a two-year spell as Brighton boss between 2022 and 2024.

His time at Marseille also started well, with the club finishing second to Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 last season to qualify for the Champions League.

But he left the French club in February after failing to make it out of the Champions League league phase and following a humiliating 5-0 defeat by PSG.

His appointment has not been universally welcomed by the Tottenham fanbase.

Some fan groups have raised objections to his support for Mason Greenwood during his time at Marseille.

Former England international Greenwood was suspended by Manchester United in January 2022 following allegations of attempted rape and sexual assault.

Prosecutors dropped charges against Greenwood in February 2023, who always denied the allegations, and he joined Marseille not long after De Zerbi in July 2024.

"I've never wanted to downplay the issue of violence against women or violence against anyone in general," De Zerbi added, speaking in his native Italian.

"Those who know me well know that I'm not the kind of person who compromises to win one more match, or to win one more title.

"I'm sorry if I've offended anyone with this topic. I have a daughter and I'm very sensitive to these things. I hope that as time passes, people will get to know me better and understand that I didn't mean to take a stance."

Slot conceded the English champions were outclassed in defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday and they face a battle just to make the competition next season.

"We were in survival mode for large parts of the game but maybe also in the period of the season we are in, we are in survival mode," said Slot after a run of one win in six games.

David Raya was hailed as the world's best goalkeeper by Arsenal's Kai Havertz after the pair inspired Tuesday's 1-0 win at Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Raya made a trio of vital saves to keep spluttering Arsenal in the game at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.

The Spaniard tipped Maxi Araujo's drive onto the crossbar and kept out Geny Catamo's low effort before making another fine stop to parry Catamo's header late in the second half.

Below their best for long spells, Arsenal capitalised on Raya's man-of-the-match display to end their two-game losing run.

Havertz calmly converted a pass from fellow substitute Gabriel Martinelli in stoppage-time, making Arsenal firm favourites to advance to the semi-finals when they host Sporting in the second leg on April 15.

Raya's return to the team was vital after he was rested for Arsenal's League Cup final loss to Manchester City and their embarrassing FA Cup quarter-final defeat against second-tier Southampton.

Raya's deputy Kepa Arrizabalaga made a costly mistake that led to City's opener at Wembley -- a stark contrast to the former Brentford star's heroics in Lisbon.

"Unbelievable. I think still underestimated in the world of football but for me, the last two seasons, the best keeper in the world," Havertz said.

"He's outstanding, he's saved us so many times and we're very glad to have him."

- 'He's phenomenal' -

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta echoed Havertz's verdict after Raya's seventh Champions League clean-sheet this season.

"At the moment he's phenomenal and extraordinary since he joined us. We are very lucky to have him," he said.

"He had two moments where he made two big saves. And that's the Champions League, the Champions League is always decided in the boxes and because there's so much quality here."

Raya felt his first save from Araujo was the decisive moment in the game as it kept Arsenal afloat in a difficult period.

"I think that's a turning moment. It was a quick transition from them, great strike but I managed to get a fingertip to it to hit the bar. It's one of those moments that can change games," he said.

"It's something that I'm there for. I'm trying to help the team as much as possible in any single action, not just defending but commanding and on the ball.

"You have to be focused no matter what you're doing, whether you're touching the ball or not. So delighted with myself and, of course, the win."

Arsenal's mentality has been questioned during their recent wobble.

But the Premier League leaders remain on course for a first English title in 22 years, and are still in the hunt for their first ever Champions League crown.

"We believe 100 percent that we can win the Champions League. We go game by game and show what we can do," Raya said.

"We just have to focus on the present, that's the most important thing, but of course we have full belief.

"We've come from two losses, learn from those moments, that pain when you lose a game.

“Use that pain in the belly to go out there and express yourself, be yourself and try to be better every single day. That's the main message we have to send out there.”

"I love my players. What they have done for nine months, I'm not going to criticise them because we lost a game in the manner that they are putting their bodies through everything," Arteta said.

Arsenal will also take heart from their 5-1 rout of Sporting in the Champions League group stage last season, when their Sweden striker Viktor Gyokeres was playing for the Portuguese club.

Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth's goals earned Atletico Madrid a commanding 2-0 lead over 10-man Barcelona in a tense Champions League quarter-final first leg clash on Wednesday.

The La Liga leaders were on top in the all-Spanish tie at Camp Nou before Pau Cubarsi was sent off for bringing down Atletico's Giuliano Simeone, who was through on goal.

Alvarez whipped home the resulting free-kick and Sorloth doubled their advantage with 20 minutes remaining to give Atletico a strong chance of reaching the semi-finals.

Diego Simeone's side, who have never won the competition, reached the 2014 and 2016 finals but were beaten by rivals Real Madrid on both occasions.

"We have things to improve and learn from... we're happy for the win but there's a long way to go," Atletico's Antoine Griezmann told Movistar.

"We're very far from the semis, we're 90 or more minutes away... we're confident but keeping our feet on the ground."

Barca, semi-finalists last season, need to make a huge comeback next Tuesday in Madrid if they are to stand a chance of lifting the trophy they last won in 2015.

"It will be tough there but if anyone can do it, it's us," Barca defender Ronald Araujo told Movistar.

Barca coach Hansi Flick was upset by the use of VAR to punish his side for Cubarsi's red card but not to analyse a potential handball incident against Atletico's Marc Pubill in the second half.

The defender touched the ball with his hand after goalkeeper Juan Musso passed it to him, to take the goal kick himself, which Flick said should have been reviewed.

"The VAR was very focussed today for Atletico, he's a German guy, so thanks Germany," complained the former German national team boss.

Atletico knocked Barca out of the Copa del Rey in the semi-finals in March and this was the second of three meetings between the sides in the space of a fortnight.

Barcelona started well with Marcus Rashford, on loan from Manchester United, their main threat down the left.

On the right flank Atletico tried to suffocate teenage star Lamine Yamal with defensive numbers, allowing Rashford more room.

The first chances fell to the England international, who scored against Atletico in La Liga on Saturday, but Musso denied him.

At the other end, Alvarez, who has been linked with a switch to Barcelona in recent months, tested Joan Garcia.

The busy Rashford, constantly escaping beyond Nahuel Molina, volleyed narrowly wide and then rolled a shot into the bottom corner but it was disallowed for offside in the build-up.

Even though the 18-year-old Yamal was up against three Atletico defenders, he produced some superb skill to break free of their shackles, but Robin Le Normand blocked his shot.

Veteran Atletico midfielder Koke was fortunate to stay on the pitch after fouls on Dani Olmo, Pedri and Yamal were only punished with a yellow card, to Barca supporters' fury.

Flick's side were controlling the game with Atletico talisman Griezmann quiet against his former team, but a moment of clumsiness from Cubarsi dramatically gave the visitors the upper hand before half-time.

The 19-year-old centre-back, chasing Giuliano Simeone as he ran through on goal to reach a ball in behind Barca's defence from Alvarez, clattered the Atletico coach's son from behind.

Although referee Istvan Kovacs only produced a yellow card for Cubarsi, he upgraded it to a red after a VAR review.

Worse was to come for Barca, with former Manchester City striker Alvarez whipping the free-kick into the top corner.

Barca battled well with 10 men, continuing to create chances for Rashford. Yamal sent the forward through on goal but after rounding Musso he could only hit the side netting, and he had a free-kick tipped over.

It was against the run of play again that Atletico snatched their second.

Griezmann and Matteo Ruggieri combined and the latter crossed for target man Sorloth, who outmuscled Gerard Martin and fired past the helpless Garcia.

Barca tasted defeat at home for the first time since Camp Nou reopened in November 2025 -- and Atletico coach Simeone won at the stadium for the first time in his 14-year career at the helm of the Rojiblancos.

It was Atletico's first win at Camp Nou since 2006 and a potential stepping stone towards the trophy they crave most.

Ryan Williams’ Lightning Strike On Debut Leaves Indian Football Fans Dreaming Of Brighter Days

A journeyman Australian has emerged as an unlikely saviour of Indian football after the 32-year-old took just four minutes to score on his debut for the country and made a small piece of history.

Perth-born Ryan Williams, whose mother is Anglo-Indian and his father English, pounced for the opening goal in India's 2-1 win over Hong Kong in Asian Cup qualifying on Tuesday in Kochi.

It was the fastest goal scored by a debutant for India, whose long-suffering football fans have never seen their country reach the World Cup.

The Hindu newspaper called it "the brightest moment yet in a season of gloom for Indian football".

Williams, who made one appearance for the senior Australia team and has represented the Socceroos at youth level, called it "a dream".

"You couldn't write it, (debut) in Kerala, the home of football," the attacker and India's new hero said in a video released by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

"It hasn't fully sunk in yet. We will spend a couple of days enjoying it."

Williams is a youth product of Championship strugglers Portsmouth and has played at various clubs clubs in England's football leagues.

He moved to India's top-tier competition, the Indian Super League, with Bengaluru FC in 2023 and has since worked to earn a national call-up while processing his Indian passport.

He got that in November last year, setting the stage for his eagerly anticipated goal-scoring debut.

"All of my mum's family -— which is the Indian side of my family -- are in Perth. That's who I grew up with," he said in an interview with Sportstar.

"So when we went around my nana's (grandmother) house, it was always Indian food and loads of uncles, aunties and cousins everywhere.

"Coming to India and seeing that was kind of like putting two and two together."

Despite the euphoria over Williams's debut India finished bottom of their qualifying group.

The victory over Hong Kong was India's only win in six group games.

The country of 1.4 billion people is a lowly 136th in the FIFA rankings, a spot above Latvia (population 1.9 million).

Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni claimed on Wednesday that he had been punished "without evidence" following accusations that he racially abused Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior.

In the first half VAR intervened to get referee Istvan Kovacs to review an incident involving Barca defender Pau Cubarsi, who was booked for felling Giuliano Simeone as he ran through on goal.

After the review Barca defender Cubarsi was sent off, leaving the Catalans with 10 men for the second half.

"The VAR was very focused today for Atletico, he's a German guy, so thanks Germany," former German national team coach Flick told reporters. "It's for me a clear red card."

In 2024 Aston Villa's Tyrone Mings was punished for a similar infringement in a Champions League defeat against Club Brugge.

Flick said the VAR officials should have asked Kovacs to review the incident.

"For my perspective it's clear, he has to call and say okay come on look at this, the same like before. I don't understand," added Flick.

"I haven't spoken with the referee. I think it was better not to speak with him.

"We have to accept it, and focus in the match next Tuesday in Atletico. We have the quality, the players who can decide (this game) and we have to fight."

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo said it was "absurd but a clear penalty".

Atletico coach Diego Simeone said the officials were correct not to intervene.

"There's common sense," said the Argentine.

"If Marc, who was supposedly receiving a pass to start the play, interpreted it the way he did, and the referee interpreted it the same way Marc did, it's because there is only common sense about the play."

Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth's goals earned Atletico a significant advantage ahead of the second leg next Tuesday in the Spanish capital.

Former Premier League referee Mark Halsey criticised the decision, arguing Martinelli should have been sent off. “Gabriel Martinelli showed total disrespect for the match official Sam Barrott in that situation. Although Sam issued a yellow card, for me it’s a red card. You just cannot put your hands on a referee, let alone push him out of the way,” Halsey told the Sun.
