Earlier in the day, Shobha Chandrasekhar, mother of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay, who is lovingly called Thalapathy by his fans, offered prayers to Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy at the Tirumala temple on Tuesday. Shobha, who is also an Indian playback singer, was seen wearing a pink and orange saree for her spiritual visit.

The former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and his wife, Sophie Shine, also visited the Tirumala temple on Monday. Visuals captured by ANI showed Dhawan arriving at the temple with Sophie, smiling as they headed in to offer prayers. The couple was dressed in traditional attire, with Dhawan wearing a kurta and dhoti, while Sophie wore a white suit.

About the Tirumala Shrine

The Tirumala shrine is administered by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and attracts a large number of devotees throughout the year. The temple conducts various rituals and sevas as part of its daily schedule.

Prison changed his understanding of privilege

Before entering prison, Archer had experienced considerable success as a politician, public figure and bestselling author. His imprisonment placed him in an environment far removed from the privileged world he had known.

His prison books offered readers a glimpse into everyday life behind bars, from his fellow inmates and prison routines to his observations about Britain's penal system.

The experience did not disappear from his memory either. Archer acknowledged that his imprisonment remained with him long after his release.

That ability to transform a painful personal chapter into creative work became one of the defining aspects of his post-prison career.

A major setback does not have to define a lifetime

Archer’s life was filled with dramatic highs and lows. His political career, literary success, scandal, imprisonment and eventual return to public life created a story almost as eventful as the fiction he wrote.

His time behind bars became a permanent part of his biography, but it was not the entirety of it. After his release, he continued publishing books and remained one of Britain’s most recognisable bestselling authors.

Delhi HC seeks Salman Khan's response on plea to stay his suit

On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court sought a response from Bollywood superstar Salman Khan on an application filed by producer Amit Jani, seeking a stay on the hearing of Khan’s suit relating to the proposed film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy. The application came up before Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani.

Arguments in Court

Counsel for Jani submitted that similar relief had been sought in an earlier matter pending before the High Court and argued that the present proceedings should be stayed until the earlier case is decided. “They have moved identical prayers in the previous suit,” the counsel submitted.

Senior advocate Ravi Prakash, appearing for Khan, said he would file a reply to the application. During the hearing, the Court sought clarification on the nature of the relief being sought through the application, observing, “This suit was for personality rights?”

Prakash submitted that Khan’s original suit concerned protection of his personality rights and that the Court had passed an order in his favour. He further submitted that subsequently a film was announced which, according to Khan’s side, was based on an incident from the actor’s life. He said Khan’s side had relied on statements and interviews attributed to the producer while seeking relief in relation to the film’s promotional material and the proposed movie. The Court directed Khan’s counsel to file a reply to the producer’s application and listed the matter for further hearing on December 16.

Dispute Over 'Kala Hiran' Film

Strengthening Diplomatic and Economic Ties

The Swiss President arrived in India on Monday as part of his visit from October 5 to October 7. Welcoming Parmelin to India, President Murmu said the two countries enjoy warm and cordial relations based on shared values of democracy and the rule of law, while cooperation spans trade and investment, science, technology and innovation, culture and people-to-people contacts.

Murmu noted that following the implementation of the "historic India-European Free Trade Association Trade and Partnership Agreement", there are greater opportunities for expanding bilateral trade and investment. She also highlighted the presence of Swiss companies in India, particularly in the infrastructure sector, where they have a notable presence in the construction of roads, railway bridges and tunnels.

Murmu said Swiss companies can also explore opportunities in emerging areas such as clean and green technology and Artificial Intelligence. The President further noted that important agreements had been signed during Parmelin's visit to promote cooperation in migration and mobility, research, and technology transfer.

The two leaders also agreed that close cooperation between India and Switzerland can bring immense benefits to the people of both countries and expressed confidence that this visit will contribute to further strengthening relations between the two countries.

Earlier, Parmelin held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House, with the discussions covering a broad range of areas aimed at taking the India-Switzerland partnership forward. "In our talks today, President Guy Parmelin and I discussed ways to take the India-Switzerland partnership forward across key areas like: Trade and investment, especially in the wake of the India-EFTA agreement. Defence production. Nuclear energy. Infrastructure and mobility. Science, technology and innovation. Opportunities for students and professionals," PM Modi said in a post on X.

The Prime Minister said the two sides also discussed deeper cooperation in health, clean energy, space, Yoga and Ayurveda.

During the banquet, Murmu also noted that regular high-level exchanges between India and Switzerland have continued to provide momentum to bilateral relations, while expressing confidence that closer cooperation would benefit the people of both countries. (ANI)

Supported by the Australian Government’s Centre for Australia India Relations, internationally acclaimed First Nations Australian composer, vocalist and didgeridoo virtuoso William Barton will join renowned Indian sitar maestro Pandit Shubhendra Rao in a rare and powerful cross-cultural collaboration to take place from 13 to 23 October 2026.

The performances will also include tabla player and percussionist Nishit Gangani, whose artistry will provide a dynamic rhythmic foundation for the collaboration. Together, the artists will create a musical dialogue connecting two of the world’s oldest continuing cultural traditions, offering audiences a unique artistic experience that transcends borders, language and generations.

A Musical Dialogue of Ancient Cultures

At the heart of the collaboration are two iconic instruments, the didgeridoo, one of the world's oldest wind instruments, and the sitar, a defining symbol of India's classical music heritage. The festival – to be held in December 2026, was announced by Australian Prime Minister the Hon Anthony Albanese MP during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Australia in July 2026.

The concert tour will begin in New Delhi on Wednesday, October 14, followed by a performance in Bengaluru on Friday, October 16. The tour will then move to Chennai on Sunday, October 18, before concluding in Mumbai on Wednesday, October 21. The concerts will be held at the Purana Qila Amphitheatre in New Delhi, NGMA in Bengaluru, Kalakshetra in Chennai and the Royal Opera House in Mumbai.

Dimri also spoke about her love for festive treats and revealed her hidden talent of making besan laddoos from scratch. “And of course, food-wise, I love Indian sweets; I love jalebi, I love besan ke laddoo, and there is still that one ritual that I follow... My mom used to make sweets at home during Diwali,” she shared, adding, “And now every time I'm not with my family, during the festival, I make besan ke laddoos myself.”

On Personal Style and Confidence

Asked whether she feels pressure because people look up to her for fashion inspiration, Dimri said, “Not really, I think.” She explained that confidence matters more to her than following expectations around fashion. “I never take that pressure, to be honest. I feel you've got to be comfortable in what you're wearing. You got to feel confident always, and confidence is the best thing that you can wear. And my personal style has always been very simple. I like to, you know, wear things where that can make me feel confident. So yeah, that's always been my style and yeah, there is no pressure of course," she said.

She added, "I mean, of course, for events you want to dress up, you want to look good, you want to look your best. But on my off day, I prefer wearing a loose shirt with loose pants, and that's about it, yeah.”

Fashion, Acting, and Myntra

The 'Qala' actress also spoke about the role fashion has played in her journey as an actor and her association with Myntra. “I think fashion is ever-evolving, and I'm so glad to be associated with the brand like Myntra because, you know, of course, anytime it's been such an important part of my life since I've joined acting, since I've become an actor. Every time you want to purchase something, Myntra is one thing that you go on, and I think it's amazing that it has so many brands. You go for one thing, and you end up buying multiple.”

Vidyarthi said caregivers are often praised for staying strong, but their own feelings and struggles can go unnoticed.

Sharing his thoughts, the actor said, “The world will tell you: wow, what a daughter you are. What a son you are. Wow, this person hasn’t even said an uff till now.”

This means it requires a gross of around Rs 15 crore. The movie has collected only Rs 6 crore so far. Theaters might close the film's run from Monday itself. 'Coordinated Campaign is Sabotage'

"And this problem does not begin or end with deepfakes. For quite some time, I have been concerned about organised and targeted negativity against films, actors and filmmakers within our own industry. A film should succeed or fail because audiences watch it and decide. Criticism, reviews, trolling and disagreement are part of cinema today. But a coordinated campaign to damage a film before audiences have even seen it is not criticism. It is sabotage. Sundeep Kishan recently spoke publicly about targeted, paid negativity against him and his film even before its release. The Paradise had to approach a court before release seeking protection against defamatory and damaging content. These are not issues we should casually dismiss. Behind every film are years of work, hundreds of families and producers risking enormous amounts of money. Watch the film. Love it. Hate it. Criticise it brutally if you genuinely feel that way. But first, LET THE FILM RELEASE," he added.

'Problem Comes From Our Own Ecosystem'

According to Manchu Vishnu, audiences have every right to criticise a film, disagree with an actor or reject a movie. However, he drew a distinction between genuine criticism and coordinated campaigns designed to damage a film even before its release. "What is even more unfortunate is that some of this comes from within our own ecosystem: fan groups fighting fan groups, anonymous pages pretending to be neutral, and accounts using photographs of actors as their DPs while behaving in ways those actors may never endorse. What exactly are we achieving? If one Telugu film loses, Telugu cinema does not win. The cake is big enough for everyone to have a piece. As President of the Movie Artistes Association, I want to make it clear that MAA is compiling information on accounts and networks repeatedly involved in targeted abuse and malicious campaigns, including accounts misusing actors’ photographs and identities to mislead people. This is NOT about stopping criticism. It is about accountability. The present deepfake incident makes the larger conversation urgent. And unfortunately, this will not be the last deepfake. Technology is moving too quickly for us to believe deleting one video or filing one complaint solves the problem," his post read.

A Call For A 'SYSTEM'

Manchu requested the Telugu Film Chamber, Producers Council, MAA and all stakeholders to "sit together and create a permanent industry-wide mechanism to address AI deepfakes, impersonation, coordinated malicious campaigns and deliberate online sabotage. Not another meeting that ends with a photograph. Not another phone call. "

"A SYSTEM. We may compete every Friday. But we cannot spend the rest of the week trying to destroy one another. Let audiences decide the fate of our films. Let cinema win," he added.

Kazakh filmmaker Myrzakhan Zhumakhan won the Best Character award for his comedy It Was Just a Joke. The film follows a dog and its owner’s brother as they get into a dispute over a prank, with the incident unfolding in the style of a blockbuster film. Zhumakhan said his interest in pranks and humour inspired the story.

India’s AI short film SITARA secured second place at the festival, winning a prize of USD 200,000, equivalent to around 89.5 million tenge. Spain’s Looking For Perseida took third place and $100,000, equivalent to around 44.8 million tenge.

Jury and Selection

Only 25 films were selected from thousands of submissions to reach the final. They were evaluated by an international jury that included former UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay and investor Balaji Srinivasan, as per Qazinform News Agency.

Festival's Financial Scope and Future Support

The festival had a total prize and support fund of USD 2 million, equivalent to nearly 895.5 million Kazakhstani tenge. The third instalment of the popular crime-thriller franchise witnessed around 14% growth in its Day 3 collection compared with Saturday. The film recorded an overall occupancy of around 56% across more than 17,000 shows on Sunday, with evening shows witnessing particularly strong audience turnout.

The strong Sunday numbers have helped Drishyam 3 comfortably cross the Rs 150 crore India net milestone within its opening weekend.

Worldwide Collection Nears Rs 275 Crore

The film has also performed strongly overseas. Its India gross collection has reached around Rs 211.80 crore, while the worldwide gross has climbed to approximately Rs 272.80 crore after three days.

Directed by Abhishek Pathak, Drishyam 3 brings back Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar, alongside Tabu and Shriya Saran. Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj are also part of the cast. The film released in theatres on October 2 and is now heading into its first weekday with strong momentum.

In a strongly worded statement, Janhvi said the issue goes far beyond the AI-generated videos she has faced in recent days. “The criminal misuse of technology to objectify women and circulate fictionalised content without consent is deeply violating, bordering on sexual assault,” Janhvi said in an Instagram story, stressing that almost every woman in the film industry has faced some version of such behaviour. The actor underlined that consent, choice and respect for a woman's body should be among the most basic principles of humanity. “Consent, choice, and respect for a woman’s body should be among the basic notions of humanity. Yet somehow, they continue to be treated as complicated. They are not. It is surprising that it still seems too nuanced for some people to understand that even if a woman says yes five days in a row and no on the sixth, that no must be respected,” Janhvi said. The actor also highlighted how she has personally dealt with such issues throughout her career, adding, “This goes far beyond the AI videos I have dealt with over the last few days, or anything I have personally experienced throughout my career. According to the outlet, Jagex first released 'RuneScape' in 2001, and it has grown into a massively popular fantasy multiplayer online role-playing game. Through quests, combat, exploration and cooperative adventures, players can forge their own paths through the medieval fantasy world of Gielinor. The franchise now includes 'RuneScape,' 'Old School RuneScape' and 'RuneScape Dragonwilds.'

“I’ve been playing RuneScape for 22 years, and it’s one of my favourite IPs ever. I’m so excited to be working with the team on this project. Actor-director Rishab Shetty paid tribute to the legendary filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 94. The 'Kantara' actor shared a heartfelt note calling the director's demise a "great loss" to Indian cinema. He highlighted Srinivasa Rao's imagination, simplicity, and fearless storytelling style while paying tribute to the director. Sharing a note on his Instagram story, Rishab Shetty wrote, "The passing of one of my favourite directors, Singeetham Srinivasa Rao Sir, is a great loss to Indian cinema. His imagination, simplicity and fearless way of telling stories have always inspired me as a filmmaker. Thank you for the wonderful cinema and the magic you gave us, Sir. Rest in peace Singeetham Srinivasa Rao Sir."

SS Rajamouli remembers the veteran filmmaker

Earlier, director SS Rajamouli also remembered legendary filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao, crediting him with showing a generation of filmmakers that there were no limits to what could be done in cinema. Rao, known for films such as Pushpaka Vimana, Aditya 369 and Mayuri, had a career spanning over six decades. He worked across several Indian languages and explored different genres, including comedy, fantasy, science fiction and drama. Remembering the veteran filmmaker, Rajamouli took to X and recalled Rao’s willingness to experiment at a time when filmmakers had fewer tools and smaller budgets. Calling him someone who “dared to dream bigger”, Rajamouli wrote, “Long before we had the tools or the budgets, he dared to dream bigger than anyone around him. He made a film without a single line of dialogue, took us travelling through time, and moved from comedy to fantasy to deeply human drama as if no line existed between genres. He showed a whole generation of us that the only real limit in cinema is imagination.”

Rajamouli also spoke about Rao’s influence on Telugu cinema and said that filmmakers who chose to experiment owed something to him. “Every filmmaker who has tried something different in Telugu cinema owes him something, knowingly or not. I certainly do. My deepest condolences to Singeetham Srinivasa Rao garu’s family. Om Shanti,” he added.

A look at Rao's illustrious career

Rao began his journey in cinema by working with veteran filmmaker KV Reddy. He was associated with the classic Mayabazar, released in 1957, before moving on to direct films himself. Over the years, Rao directed more than 60 films and worked across different genres, including comedy, science fiction, fantasy and drama.

One of his well-known films was Mayuri, released in 1985 and based on the life of dancer Sudha Chandran. The film received several honours, including multiple Nandi Awards. Rao followed it with Pushpaka Vimana in 1987, a black comedy starring Kamal Haasan. The film was made without spoken dialogue and went on to win the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

His association with Kamal Haasan also resulted in films such as Apoorva Sagodharargal and Michael Madana Kama Rajan. In Telugu cinema, Aditya 369 became one of Rao’s best-known films. The science-fiction film explored time travel at a time when the genre was still uncommon in Indian cinema. (ANI)

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 came to a colourful close in Japan, marking the end of a memorable 20th edition of Asia’s premier continental multi-sport event in Aichi-Nagoya on Sunday. The ceremony showcased the rich cultural heritage of Japan through a vibrant mix of traditional dance, music and contemporary performances. Athletes from different nations gathered together, waving their national flags, proudly displaying their medals and bidding farewell to the Games, as per Olympics.com.

Neeru Dhanda: India's Flagbearer and Star Performer

Trap shooter Neeru Dhanda carried the Indian tricolour at the closing ceremony of the Asian Games 2026 at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Sunday. Dhanda earned the honour after a remarkable campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Games, where she won two gold medals and a silver.

The 27-year-old was among four Indian athletes to finish the Games with three medals, alongside archer Kumkum Mohod, distance runner Gulveer Singh and quarter-miler Vithya Ramraj. Dhanda also scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual Asian Games gold in trap shooting. She then teamed up with Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer to secure silver in the women’s team event. She completed her medal haul by partnering Kynan Chenai to win gold in the mixed team trap event.

Indian shooters finished the Games with 15 medals — three gold, eight silver and four bronze.

Speaking about her stint at the Asian Games, Neeru shared, “This has been a truly special experience because this was my very first Asian Games. It was the first gold won by India in women’s trap ever, and the first gold medal in trap since 1978. To go back from my very first Asian Games with three medals, two of them gold and one silver, all with records, is truly special. At the closing ceremony, Dhanda led the Parade of Nations with the Indian flag as the rest of the Indian contingent entered the stadium alongside athletes from across the continent. Volunteers danced alongside the athletes as they made their final appearance at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.

The closing ceremony was held under the theme ‘One Asia’, with athletes gathering around the central stage as parkour performances and laser displays formed part of the programme. The handover ceremony featured the historic torch and flag from the inaugural Asian Games, held in New Delhi in 1951. The symbols were paraded into the stadium before being presented to the Qatari delegation. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) flag was also handed over to Qatar, with Olympic champion and three-time world high jump champion Mutaz Barshim receiving it as Doha prepares to host the Asian Games in 2030.

India's Impressive Medal Haul

India signed off from the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya with a haul of 85 medals, with gold-medal triumphs in cricket, kabaddi and hockey providing some of the defining moments of a campaign that also featured record-breaking performances, maiden podium finishes and historic individual achievements.

India finished fourth in the overall medal standings with 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals. China dominated the Games with 341 medals, including 169 gold, followed by hosts Japan with 269 medals, including 83 gold. South Korea finished third with 150 medals, including 39 gold.

India’s 85-medal haul fell short of its record 106-medal tally, including 28 golds, at the 2023 Hangzhou Games. However, the campaign was marked by several landmark achievements across disciplines.

Golden Sweep in Team Sports

The biggest success came in the three team sports in which India competed in both the men’s and women’s events — cricket, kabaddi and hockey — with the country completing a clean sweep of gold medals across all six competitions.

Cricket's Golden Double

In cricket, India completed a golden double after the women's team won the title before the men's side defeated arch-rivals Pakistan by 19 runs in the final. The men's team, powered by contributions from Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma and Axar Patel, added the gold to the women's team's emphatic 147-run victory over Sri Lanka in the women's final.

Kabaddi Kings and Queens

Kabaddi produced another clean sweep. India's women defeated Iran 37-34 in a closely fought final to successfully defend their title, while the men's team came from behind to beat Iran 40-34. The men's gold was India's ninth in 10 editions since kabaddi became a men's team sport at the Asian Games in 1990. The only exception came in 2018, when India won bronze. The women's team, meanwhile, continued its dominance since the sport's introduction to the women's programme in 2010.

Historic Hockey Golds

Hockey completed India's clean sweep in the team sports. The women's team ended a 44-year wait for an Asian Games medal by defeating China 1-0 in the final, with Lalremsiami scoring the decisive goal in the 10th minute. The victory was India's first women's hockey gold at the Asian Games since 1982. The men's team followed with a 5-1 win over Malaysia in the final, successfully defending its Asian Games title. It was India's fifth men's hockey gold after victories in 1966, 1998, 2014 and 2022, and the first time the Indian men's and women's hockey teams won gold at the same edition. With these wins, India's men's and women's hockey teams qualified for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, booking their seats successfully.
