A 43-year-old woman armed with a sharp weapon and an air pistol stormed a flat at Sai Shraddha Park in Bajajnagar, Waluj, on Wednesday morning and fatally stabbed her former boyfriend’s wife. Police identified the victim as 42-year-old Sadhna Sonpethkar and the assailant as Shaila Sonar.

Officials said the crime stemmed from a failed relationship and monetary dispute between Sonar and the victim’s husband, Mahendra, an employee with an industrial house in MIDC Waluj. The murder, which occurred between 9.30am and 10am, shocked the neighbourhood due to its brutality.

Commissioner of Police Pravin Pawar confirmed that Sonar had previously lodged a complaint in August 2024 accusing Mahendra of sexual exploitation and financial cheating. A chargesheet was filed in that case, and investigators are probing what triggered Wednesday’s attack.

Pepper Spray And Frenzied Knife Assault

Police said Sonar entered the flat and sat in the drawing room, where she was confronted by the victim’s 65-year-old mother-in-law, Kesharbai. As the victim joined the exchange, a heated argument broke out. Sonar allegedly pulled out an air pistol and placed it on the victim’s head, sparking a scuffle.

The pistol fell twice during the struggle, allowing the mother-in-law to throw it out of a window. Sonar then used pepper spray on both women, temporarily incapacitating them. Taking advantage, she launched a frenzied knife attack, stabbing the victim multiple times on the head, neck, back, and face. The assault was so severe that the victim’s face was disfigured.

Neighbours alerted police, who found Sonar hiding inside the flat. She had sustained deep cuts on both hands, likely while wielding the weapon.

Police Investigation And Arrest

Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Atulkar said Sonar latched the flat from inside before attacking. Police recovered the knife and the suspected firearm, later confirmed to be an air pistol. No bullets were fired.

Sonar was apprehended at the scene and is undergoing treatment at a government hospital. Police are investigating the source of the knife and air pistol. Preliminary findings suggest Sonar and Mahendra were in a relationship before it soured.

The victim is survived by her husband and two teenage children. Sonar, separated from her husband since 2017, lives with her two children, including a 17-year-old son.

The incident occurred around 7pm in village 8 Dol under Rawla police station limits. Surendra, the accused, had called his sister Manju to his house on the pretext of handing over her share of wheat from their ancestral land. Manju, who had been in a live‑in relationship for two years, arrived with her partner, who later left her at the house.

Police said their mother was away attending a wedding in Kaluwala village when the confrontation unfolded. An argument broke out between the siblings after Manju demanded her share in the land. In a fit of rage, Surendra picked up an axe kept in the house and struck Manju on the head.

Fatal Dispute Over Land

The blow proved fatal, and Manju collapsed on the spot. Hearing her screams, her partner rushed inside and found her lying in a pool of blood, while Surendra stood nearby holding the weapon. He immediately alerted Rawla police, who reached the scene and began investigation.

Deputy superintendent of police Prashant Kaushik said the murder appears to have stemmed from a long‑standing dispute over land. Manju was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Surendra, a BSTC student and the youngest among five siblings, was arrested after questioning. Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to establish the full details of the conflict and the events leading up to the killing.

After being released, the woman travelled to Mysuru. There, she contacted US authorities and informed them about what had happened.

Based on information shared by the US Embassy, Karnataka Police registered a case and began an investigation.

Arrests and police action

A 29‑year‑old man was arrested by Jubilee Hills police for sexually exploiting a 15‑year‑old girl and extorting ₹13 lakh from her. The accused, identified as K Chandrasekhar Azad alias Arjun from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, was taken into custody after the girl lodged a complaint. He has been sent to judicial remand.

Police revealed that Azad befriended the girl through Instagram in July 2024 and expressed interest in a relationship. Their frequent meetings eventually came to the attention of her parents, who filed a complaint in April 2025. At that time, Azad was booked under multiple sections of the POCSO Act, including stalking, criminal intimidation, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. He was arrested and remanded, but secured bail in May 2025.

After release, Azad resumed contact with the girl using her driver’s wife’s phone. On the pretext of starting a business, he persuaded her to steal ₹13 lakh from her home and hand it over. The driver’s wife, aware of the communication, also extorted ₹9 lakh from the girl by threatening to inform her parents.

Repeat Exploitation And Fresh Charges

In March 2026, Azad allegedly sexually assaulted the girl when she was alone at home. When her family discovered he was meeting her again, she disclosed the assault. Based on her complaint, police registered a case under Section 64(2) (rape) and Section 308(2) (extortion) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on April 18. Azad was arrested the following day and produced before court on April 20, where he was remanded.

Investigators are also probing the role of the driver’s wife in the extortion. Police confirmed that her involvement is under active investigation.

Meanwhile, Jubilee Hills police registered a zero FIR on the complaint of a 21‑year‑old student from Guntur. She alleged that Azad befriended her last year while she was searching for a hostel and sexually exploited her under the promise of marriage in Narsingi. After learning of his involvement with the minor, she filed a complaint on April 19. The FIR has been transferred to Narsingi police station for further action.

Inspector U Srinivasulu Reddy of Jubilee Hills police stated that investigations are ongoing to determine whether Azad duped more women in similar fashion. His history of prior arrest and repeated offenses has raised concerns about the scale of his exploitation.

He took his son into another room

After the argument, Prem picked up his three-year-old son Bharat. Bharat was the youngest child in the family and Prem's only son.

Prem then took the boy into another room and locked the door from inside. The rest of the family eventually went back to sleep, believing nothing was wrong.

Mother's fears come true

Later in the night, Asha woke up and went to check on her son. She tried to open the room, but the door was locked. Despite repeated knocks, there was no response from inside.

Growing worried, she looked through a window. What she saw left the family horrified.

Prem was hanging from a noose inside the room. Nearby, little Bharat was lying in a pool of blood.

Asha immediately raised an alarm, and other family members rushed to the spot. The family believes the child may have been attacked with a sharp weapon, though police have not yet officially confirmed this.

Police say the crimes happened between late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, raising serious concerns about safety and monitoring of repeat offenders.

According to police, the first crime took place in Rajasthan’s Alwar district at around 10:30 pm on Tuesday. The accused allegedly entered his neighbour’s house, pushed her, and assaulted her.

He is accused of covering her mouth, strangling her, and throwing her to the floor before raping her. The victim also reported that he bit her at several places.

Before leaving around 11 pm, he allegedly threatened her, warning her not to tell anyone. He reportedly said he would kill her and her family if she spoke out.

An FIR was registered by Alwar Police after the woman filed a complaint.

Just hours later, the accused travelled to Delhi. Police say he reached a housing society in Amar Colony, in south-east Delhi, around 6:30 am.

At about 6:39 am, he allegedly entered the home of his former employer. The victim, a 22-year-old engineering graduate preparing for UPSC exams, was alone at home as her parents had gone to the gym.

The accused left the house around 7:30 am.

When the parents returned at about 8 am, they found their daughter lying in a pool of blood. Her clothes were torn, and she was partially unclothed from the waist down. The house appeared disturbed, with items scattered.

Preliminary investigation suggests she may have been raped and then strangled, possibly using a mobile phone charger cable. However, police said confirmation of sexual assault will depend on the medical report.

A case of rape, murder, and robbery has been registered.

Delhi Police quickly formed 15 teams to track the suspect.

CCTV cameras played a key role. Footage from the society gate and building entrance showed the accused entering and later leaving the area.

Police tracked the direction in which he fled and identified an auto-rickshaw he boarded. The driver was located and questioned. He told police he had dropped the accused at a hotel.

Using this information, police reached the hotel and arrested him.

Investigators found that the accused appeared to change his clothes after the crime.

He was seen entering the complex wearing a yellow shirt and black trousers. About an hour later, he was seen leaving in white trousers and a full-sleeve yellow T-shirt.

He was also carrying a black backpack. Police believe he may have changed clothes and briefly stopped at a nearby park before escaping.

When the victim's parents returned from the gym around 8 am, they found their daughter lying in a pool of blood. The house had been ransacked.

Investigators believe Rahul first attacked her in the study room on the rooftop. He allegedly hit her with a lamp and another heavy object before strangling her.

Police suspect sexual assault, but forensic examination is still underway.

Autopsy reveals violent struggle

Doctors at AIIMS Delhi conducted the post-mortem examination. The report confirmed that strangulation caused the young woman's death.

It also found several injuries, including bruises, scratches and a broken nose. These injuries suggest she fought hard to save herself.

Forensic samples have been collected. Officials are waiting for final laboratory reports to confirm whether sexual assault took place.

He allegedly tried to loot the house

Police say Rahul dragged the victim's body downstairs after the attack. He then allegedly tried to open a locker using her finger. When that failed, he reportedly forced it open using tools.

Investigators say he stole cash and jewellery from the house. He also changed out of his blood-stained clothes and wore clothes belonging to the victim's brother before escaping.

The accused allegedly took both his own mobile phone and the victim's phone. Police are still searching for them.

CCTV captured his every move

CCTV cameras played a key role in solving the case quickly. Rahul was seen entering the housing society at around 6.28 am wearing a yellow shirt and black trousers.

At about 7.22 am, he was seen leaving in different clothes while carrying a backpack. Police believe he changed clothes inside the house after the crime.

He was also spotted stopping briefly at a nearby park before taking an auto-rickshaw.

Investigators traced the auto-rickshaw driver Rahul had hired. The driver helped police identify the hotel where Rahul had checked in after the crime.

What hotel manager told about Rahul Meena

The manager of hotel in Delhi's Dwarka shared details of his interaction with Rahul Meena, the man accused of raping and murdering a 22-year-old woman in Kailash Hills. Meena had checked into the hotel shortly after the crime.

"I remember him clearly. He said he was from Alwar and had come to Delhi for some work," the manager told Hindustan Times.

According to the manager, Rahul appeared completely normal. "He was very calm and polite. It did not seem like he had committed such a terrible crime," he said.

Rahul reportedly apologised for not carrying an identity card and instead provided his Aadhaar number. He paid Rs 1,500 in cash for the room.

Police later said Rahul had used the fake name Rahul Kumar while checking in.

The manager said he was shocked when police arrived at the hotel later that day. "Around 4 pm, officers came and started asking questions. I was frightened. Only then did I learn about the horrific crime," he said.

Rahul was arrested from the hotel in Dwarka just hours later. Police recovered more than Rs 1 lakh in cash and jewellery, which they believe was stolen from the victim's home.

Officials said Rahul had paid for the hotel room using the stolen money. He is now in police custody.

Another crime in Alwar hours earlier

Police say the Delhi murder was not Rahul's first crime that day. Just hours before reaching Delhi, he allegedly attacked a woman in Rajasthan's Alwar.

According to investigators, he entered a neighbour's house at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday. He is accused of assaulting, raping and strangling her. Police say he also threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

An FIR was later registered based on her complaint.

After that, Rahul allegedly travelled nearly 200 kilometres to Delhi.

Why investigators are looking at money

Police say Rahul had serious financial problems. He was heavily involved in online betting, including teen patti and other gaming apps.

Investigators believe he had borrowed money from several people. They are now identifying those lenders and examining whether his debts played a role in the crimes.

His family has claimed he went to Delhi because of a dispute over money and a missing mobile phone.

However, police are investigating a much wider motive.

Her parents took her to the accused, believing he could help her through spiritual healing. The godman reportedly told the family that the woman was possessed by a spirit and promised to 'treat' her.

He asked her to attend prayer sessions every Thursday, slowly gaining her trust.

Allegations of abuse and threats

The woman has accused the godman of sending her obscene messages over time. In August 2024, he allegedly called her to a secluded place and then took her to a lodge.

When she resisted, he reportedly showed her rudraksha beads and claimed he had divine powers. He allegedly told her she would not be able to resist him.

The complaint states that he then forced himself on her. He is also accused of taking nude photos of the survivor.

Later, when she tried to speak to relatives, the accused allegedly threatened her again. He reportedly claimed he was a 'goon' and warned her not to go to the police.

He also allegedly took her phone and deleted messages and evidence related to the incident.

Help sought after fear and silence

The survivor remained silent for some time due to fear. Later, she approached Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti for help. With their support, she filed a complaint with the Maharashtra Police. Based on this, a case has been registered under the anti-superstition law and other legal sections.

Police are now investigating the case in detail.

Similar cases raise concern

This is not the only such case in Maharashtra. Recently, another self-styled godman, Ashok Kharat, was arrested in Nashik.

A married woman accused him of raping her repeatedly over three years. He is also facing other serious charges, including sexual exploitation through deceit and violations of the anti-superstition law.

Disturbing case in Akola

A separate case in Akola has also raised alarm. A self-styled godman, Chetan Sunil Mule, also known as “Gulal Shesh Maharaj”, has been accused of cruelty against children.

Videos showed him performing dangerous acts, such as lifting children with his teeth and making them sit on nail-studded surfaces.

He reportedly held such gatherings for years, claiming to cure illnesses and solve problems through rituals.

Action taken after viral video

The Akola case came to light after a viral video was noticed by Pranjali Manoj Jaiswal. After checking the facts, a complaint was filed, and police registered a case at the local station.

The accused has been booked under several laws, including those related to child protection and the anti-superstition act.

A woman working at the Nashik branch of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has shared a deeply disturbing account of alleged sexual harassment, inappropriate behaviour, and religious insults at her workplace. Her statement is part of a growing number of complaints by women employees who say they faced similar treatment.

According to a report by India Today, the woman joined the company as an associate on July 12, 2024. She said she never expected that her workplace would turn into a place of fear and humiliation.

Her complaint is one among more than a dozen filed by women employees. So far, nine First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered based on these complaints.

According to the survivor, the harassment started very early, during a training session in September 2024.

She also claimed that Ansari, along with another accused, Tausif Attar, would often stare at her body and pass comments about her appearance. These actions, she said, continued over time and created a stressful work environment.

Allegation of physical misconduct

One of the most serious claims made by the survivor involves an incident with another accused, Shafi Sheikh.

She said that one day, he sat next to her and began rubbing his feet against hers. Then, pretending to use the keypad near her, he touched her private parts.

Shocked by this behaviour, she moved away immediately. She said the accused simply smiled, rolled his eyes, and walked away as if nothing had happened.

The incident left her shaken and fearful.

The survivor said the harassment was not limited to one or two incidents. She claimed that between September 2024 and February 2026, several accused employees made repeated comments about her body.

These comments, she said, were obscene and made her feel ashamed and uncomfortable. She described the behaviour as ongoing and emotionally distressing.

Apart from sexual harassment, the survivor also alleged that she was targeted because of her religious beliefs.

She claimed that in February 2026, Tausif Attar made insulting remarks about Hindu religious texts and deities. According to her, he said he had read the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, and then made offensive comments questioning religious stories and beliefs.

She alleged that he mocked the number of wives of a god and questioned how a god could not know about his own child. She described these remarks as hurtful and disrespectful.

The survivor said such comments were not isolated and contributed to a hostile work environment.

The case has raised serious questions about how complaints were handled within the organisation.

TCS said earlier that it had not received any complaints through its official ethics or Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) channels between 2022 and 2026 at its Nashik BPO unit.

However, investigators told media that there were several oral complaints made by employees. These included reports of misbehaviour, lack of discipline, and even physical assault.

Despite this, the accused allegedly continued their actions without fear of punishment.

Multiple complaints and police cases

The survivor is the fifth woman to come forward publicly. Overall, more than a dozen women have filed complaints.

Nine FIRs have been registered so far. One case has been filed at Deolali Camp police station, while eight others are registered at Mumbai Naka police station.

Police have arrested eight accused persons so far, including a woman employee and a now-suspended operations manager, Ashwini Chainani.

The ninth accused, Nida Khan, is currently in Mumbai. She has been suspended from her role as a telecaller.

She applied for interim anticipatory bail, but a Nashik court denied immediate relief. The court has allowed time for the complainant’s legal team to submit a written response.

The matter will now be heard on April 27, when both sides will present their arguments.

What lawyers have said

Advocate Milind Kurkute, who represents the complainant, said that no interim relief has been granted so far.

He stated that the court has allowed the victim’s side to file a written statement and will hear both the complainant and the investigation team on the next hearing date.

On the other side, Advocate Baba Sayyad, who represents Nida Khan, said that there are no allegations of sexual harassment or forced religious conversion against his client.

He clarified that she has only been named in an FIR related to hurting religious sentiments. He also said she was not an HR manager, but worked as a process associate.

He added that the FIR does not mention forced religious conversion, but focuses on religious remarks.

The investigation has now expanded beyond local police.

On April 17, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) took custody of two accused, Safi Shaikh and Raza Memon, in connection with the alleged forced conversion angle of the case.

The ATS is currently questioning them to understand whether there is any larger network or organised activity involved.

Fact-finding panel meets victims

A four-member fact-finding committee is also looking into the case.

The panel, which includes Advocate Monika Arora, met with victims and their families for the second day in a row. The aim is to gather more details and understand the full extent of the allegations.

During the investigation, police have collected several pieces of evidence.

Officials said they recovered around 78 suspicious call records, emails, and chat messages exchanged between the accused.

There is also evidence of possible financial transactions, which investigators are now examining closely.

TCS asks staff to work from home

In response to the situation, TCS has asked employees at its Nashik branch to work from home.

Sources said this step was taken as a precaution to ensure the safety and comfort of staff while the investigation continues.

This case has raised serious concerns about workplace safety, especially for women.

The survivor’s account suggests that harassment went on for months without proper action. It also highlights the importance of safe reporting systems and strict action against misconduct.

Maheshbhai had accompanied his father to the hospital for treatment. Around noon, he went to the community kitchen for lunch.

While eating, he reportedly felt unwell and could not finish his meal. As he tried to return his plate, the canteen operator, Bharatbhai Acharya, allegedly stopped him.

According to the complaint, Acharya told him to either finish the remaining food or pay a fine of Rs 50, according to a report by Times Now.

Fight quickly escalated

Maheshbhai agreed to pay and handed over a Rs 500 note. However, when he asked for the remaining change, an argument broke out.

Police said Acharya allegedly asked Maheshbhai about his caste during the dispute. Soon after, he reportedly called several others to the spot.

Within minutes, six more men arrived.

Alleged assault by seven men

The FIR states that all seven accused attacked Maheshbhai with plastic pipes.

He suffered serious injuries to his head, hands and other parts of his body. His family members rushed to the scene and managed to stop the assault.

Maheshbhai was immediately admitted to the trauma centre at Amreli Civil Hospital.

Death after two days

Police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Two days later, Maheshbhai reportedly fell from the trauma centre and died. The exact circumstances surrounding the fall are still being investigated.

Family demands murder charge

Maheshbhai's family believes the assault directly led to his death. They have demanded that police add Section 302, relating to murder, to the FIR.

The family has also refused to accept his body until stronger charges are filed against the accused. Police, however, have said that current evidence does not yet establish a direct link between the assault and Maheshbhai's death.

The matter has now reached court. Officials are awaiting further legal and medical findings before deciding whether additional charges will be added.

Dispute turned deadly

Police identified the accused as Salik Ram Yadav, who worked as a watchman at a local poultry farm. Villagers left stunned

After the murder, Salik Ram was seen walking around the village carrying his wife's severed head in one hand and the weapon in the other.

Police said he later placed both the head and the weapon in a plastic sack, leaving the body behind. He then walked to the Rajgamar police outpost and surrendered.

Reason behind the crime

During questioning, Salik Ram allegedly told police that he often argued with his wife because she suspected his character.

The couple had been working at the poultry farm for the last three years. They were originally from Ajgarbahar Haldimada village in Korba block.

The couple have four children. Police have arrested the accused and seized the weapon used in the crime.

The woman's body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Further investigation is underway.

A fresh political row has broken out in Madhya Pradesh after BJP MLA Pritam Lodhi issued a strong warning to a police officer. The dispute began after a road accident in Karera, in Shivpuri, involving his son. The situation has now turned into a public confrontation between the politician and the police.

Days after his son’s involvement in a road accident in Karera, Lodhi sharply escalated his attack on the police, directly targeting Karera SDOP Ayush Jakhad. Demanding a written clarification within 15 days, Lodhi accused the officer of making 'political statements' and questioned whose instructions he was following.

In a strongly worded warning, the MLA said that if no response was given, he would “fill the SDOP’s house with cow dung.” He also issued open challenges, telling the officer to “stay within your limits,” asking “does Karera belong to your daddy?” and asserting that his son would return to the area, daring authorities to try and stop him.

The accident involving his son

Lodhi’s son, Dinesh Lodhi, is accused of hitting five people with a speeding Thar SUV in Karera on April 16.

According to the MLA, the incident was an accident and not intentional. He said such events are never done on purpose.

Initial response by the MLA

The MLA claimed that after his son left Karera, police called him back and told him that he should not return to the area or contest elections from there.

The case has now gone beyond the accident itself. It has raised questions about the relationship between political leaders and the police.

Two Months On, Accused Teacher Still Working After Harassment Complaint By 24 Women

More than two months after 24 women staff members of a government senior secondary school in Chandigarh filed a harassment complaint against a male colleague, no interim action has been taken against the accused. The complaint was submitted on February 12 to the school’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. Despite the seriousness of the allegations and the number of complainants, the accused teacher continues to attend school and shares the same workspace with the women.

Serious allegations of harassment and intimidation

In their written complaint, according to a report by the Times of India, the women accused the teacher of repeated misconduct. They alleged that he used abusive and derogatory language, issued verbal threats and behaved in an intimidating manner. They also claimed that he often invaded their personal space and created discomfort through unwelcome physical proximity. According to the complaint, such behaviour was not limited to a single incident but was part of a pattern that created a hostile and unsafe working environment.

Specific incident mentioned in complaint

The women also described a particular incident in February. They alleged that the teacher shouted aggressively, moved very close to them in an intimidating way and made threatening remarks. They said this behaviour left them distressed and fearful at work. The complaint stated that the environment had become humiliating and unsafe for women staff members.

Demand for immediate action

The complainants asked for urgent steps to be taken. They demanded that the case be taken up quickly by the ICC and that protective measures be introduced without delay. They warned that if no action was taken, they might approach the police and start criminal proceedings.

In this case, since an ICC exists at the school, the creation of a parallel panel has raised procedural concerns.

Official response on the issue

School Education Director Nitish Singla told news agency Press Trust of India that the ICC report was not conclusive. He stated that the matter has been referred to the district-level committee, which is now conducting an inquiry. He added that both sides are being heard before a final decision is made.

Investigation still ongoing

Officials confirmed that a probe is underway. Authorities are reviewing the complaint and collecting details from all involved parties. However, no official explanation has been given for the delay in taking interim action.
