Delhi Police have arrested a 31-year-old software engineer who was earning nearly Rs 30 lakh per year at a multinational company. Police say he left his corporate job to run a fake online trading racket that cheated hundreds of investors across India. The accused, identified as Ravi Rathore, is believed to be the main person behind the fraud. Police arrested him along with two associates after a multi-state operation that covered Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.

How the fraud worked

According to Delhi Police, as reported by India Today, the accused created a fake mobile application and a fraudulent website. The platform was presented as an online trading service. Victims were promised high guaranteed returns with no financial risk.

The syndicate mainly targeted people interested in stock market investments. They told investors that the system used advanced software tools that could generate large profits safely.

Police said the group used convincing methods to gain trust and encourage people to invest money.

Complaint that started the investigation

The case came to light after a resident of Delhi’s Paharganj area filed a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The complainant said he was contacted by unknown callers. They persuaded him to download the trading app and start investing.

Trusting their claims, he transferred Rs 10,000 through several online transactions.

At first, the app showed fake daily profits to build confidence. The display was designed to look real and encourage further deposits.

Demands for more money

When the victim tried to withdraw his money, the operators allegedly asked him to deposit more funds.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohit Rajveer Singh said that every time the victim attempted to withdraw money, he was told to pay extra amounts. The excuses included taxes, account activation fees, and processing charges.

These repeated demands made the victim suspicious. After reading government warnings about cyber fraud, he realised he had been cheated and reported the matter to authorities.

FIR and investigation

An FIR was registered on May 1. After that, Delhi Police started a detailed investigation.

The probe included technical surveillance, IP address tracking, server log analysis, and examination of financial transactions.

Investigators found that the backend system and control panel of the fake app were operated from Bengaluru. The calling operations and financial trail were traced to Sanawad in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh.

Police formed two separate teams to catch the suspects in both states.

Arrests and recovered items

Ravi Rathore was arrested in Bengaluru on May 3. Police recovered two laptops, a mobile phone, and an SUV that was allegedly bought using money from the fraud.

On May 5, another team arrested his associates, Sudama and Vikash Rathod, from Sanawad.

During raids at what police described as a call centre, officers seized 17 mobile phones, five computers, 13 SIM cards, bank account records, ATM cards, and large amounts of digital data. The data included details of thousands of potential victims.

How victims were targeted

Investigators said the group hired female callers to contact victims. The aim was to gain trust and encourage male investors to put in more money.

Police believe this strategy helped the group convince people to invest larger sums.

Role of each accused

Police said Rathore used his background in software development to create and maintain the fake trading platform.

Sudama allegedly funded the operations. Vikash handled calls and communicated with investors to promote the scheme.

Scale of the fraud

Technical analysis showed that 636 victim accounts were created on the platform. Police found around 14,232 transactions linked to the racket. The total amount involved was nearly Rs 99.77 crore.

Officials said part of the money was used to buy flats and other properties in Indore. Luxury vehicles were also purchased.

Possible wider network

Investigators suspect that the accused may be linked to similar fraud cases in other states. Police are now tracing the full money trail. They are also checking mule accounts used to move funds and identifying more victims.

The case highlights how online fraud can look real and convincing. Police action has exposed a large network that allegedly used technology to cheat investors.

Authorities said Monika’s half-burnt body was discovered on May 7 in an isolated plot. Investigators revealed that Anuj, along with his parents and a neighbour, transported her body in an SUV before setting it on fire under a pile of cow dung.

Family Alleges Property Pressure

Monika’s relatives accused her husband and in-laws of assaulting her and pressuring her to transfer property worth around ₹3 crore into their names. Her mother, Renu Nagar, told police that Monika had called her on the day of the murder, saying she was being assaulted.

Her brother also reported receiving distress calls from Monika, in which she said she was being forced to hand over her share of family land. Relatives claimed they saw Monika’s body being loaded into a black Fortuner outside Anuj’s house later that evening.

Following the complaint, police registered a case under BNS sections 103 (murder), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence), and 109 (attempt to murder) against seven accused, including Anuj, his parents, younger brother, uncle, aunt, and neighbour Karan Rawal alias Kannu, who was arrested earlier.

Police Probe And Confession

Police said Anuj was arrested during a special operation aided by electronic surveillance. The SUV allegedly used in the crime was seized. During interrogation, Anuj admitted to arguing with Monika after she expressed a desire to visit her parental home.

He claimed family members later told him she had hanged herself and was declared dead at a hospital. He further said villagers advised burning the body.

The autopsy could not determine the cause of death due to the extent of burns, but viscera samples were preserved for forensic examination.

Investigators continue to probe the motive, with focus on the alleged property dispute and the role of family members in the crime.

According to Giribala Singh’s application, the family began noticing behaviour that made them suspect substance abuse soon after Twisha started living with them, reported India Today.

The plea claimed Twisha visited her parents' home and other places five times between December 2025 and May 2026.

During this period, the family allegedly observed trembling hands, irritability and sudden mood swings. Giribala Singh claimed these symptoms appeared when Twisha could not consume drugs.

The application further stated that when the matter was discussed with Twisha's father, he allegedly admitted that she consumed such substances.

However, Twisha’s family has not publicly responded in detail to these specific allegations so far.

Claims linked to pregnancy and emotional distress

The bail application also linked changes in Twisha’s behaviour to her pregnancy.

According to the plea, Twisha learnt about her pregnancy during a hospital visit in Bhopal on April 17.

The plea stated that after returning home from the hospital, Twisha packed her belongings and told the family she wanted to return to Noida because she could no longer continue as a homemaker.

Victim allegedly abducted while going to work

According to police and the victim’s family, the young man, identified as Jeetu, works as a labourer for a contractor. On Saturday morning at around 9 am, Jeetu was travelling on his motorcycle when a group of around 20 to 25 people allegedly stopped him on the way and started beating him.

His family alleged that the attackers forcibly pushed him into a vehicle and took him to Beer village, where he was held captive and assaulted.

Police said the accused allegedly tortured him and publicly humiliated him during the incident.

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly forced Jeetu to wear a garland made of shoes and slippers. He was also allegedly forced to drink urine.

Marriage dispute said to be behind attack

Police said the attack was allegedly connected to a dispute involving Jeetu’s marriage.

According to officials, a woman from Beer village had earlier been married to another man. That marriage later ended in divorce, after which she started living at her parents' home.

About five months ago, the woman married Jeetu.

However, the woman’s former in-laws allegedly objected to the second marriage. They reportedly claimed that the matter had not been settled according to community customs and traditions.

Family protests outside police station

After learning about the incident, Jeetu’s family and relatives reached Gegal police station and staged a protest. They accused the police of delaying action against the accused.

Officials assured the family that strict action would be taken and teams were immediately formed to search for the accused.

Police later rescued Jeetu from the accused persons.

Nine arrested, search for others continues

Ajmer Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agarwala said police registered a case on Saturday evening after the complaint was filed.

He confirmed that nine accused, including a woman, have been arrested so far in connection with the case. Police also seized the vehicles allegedly used during the kidnapping and assault.

Officials said efforts are continuing to arrest the remaining accused who are currently absconding.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are examining all evidence, including the viral video.

A contractor from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, has allegedly lost ₹1.27 lakh after being cheated in an online scam linked to a fake Facebook profile. Police said the fraud started when the man accepted a friend request from an account claiming to belong to a woman from London.

The victim has been identified as Kamalkant Yadav, 28, who lives in the Jhansi Road area of Gwalior. According to the complaint, he connected with a profile named 'Lucy Charles' on 24 April, reported India Today.

Conversation moved to WhatsApp

Police said the woman gradually built trust and later shifted the chat to WhatsApp. On WhatsApp, she allegedly used the name 'Dr Patricia R Medicine'.

During the chats, she claimed she was a resident of London and planned to visit India soon. She also said she would bring 95,000 British pounds with her. This amount was described as a large sum, and she claimed she needed help converting it into Indian currency.

The contractor believed he could earn a commission from the currency exchange. Because of this, he continued talking to her.

Airport call and demand for fees

On 27 April, Yadav received another call from a woman who introduced herself as an employee at Mumbai airport. She told him that foreign currency had arrived in his name and needed to be cleared.

She said he had to pay registration charges before the money could be released. Later, she demanded additional payments under different names such as processing fees and clearance charges.

Police said the fraudsters used repeated requests to pressure him into sending money.

Money transferred in stages

Yadav first sent ₹38,500 as registration fees. After that, he transferred another ₹88,600 through multiple transactions. In total, he allegedly paid around ₹1.27 lakh to the scammers.

The accused later asked for an additional ₹70,000. At this stage, the contractor became suspicious and realised something was wrong.

Soon after understanding that he had been cheated, he contacted the cybercrime helpline number 1930 to report the case.

Police action and investigation

Following the complaint, Madhya Pradesh Police registered an e-zero FIR against unknown persons under sections related to cheating and the Information Technology Act.

Jhansi Road police station in-charge Shakti Singh Yadav confirmed that an investigation has started. He said the case involves a gang that creates fake social media identities to trap victims.

Police believe the group often promises currency exchange deals or expensive gifts to attract people. Once the victim shows interest, they demand different types of fees and collect money in stages.

Officials are now checking the bank accounts where the money was transferred. They are trying to trace the suspects and recover the funds.

Warning to the public

Police have advised people to be careful when dealing with strangers online. They warned that offers involving foreign currency, large gifts, or quick profit are often used in scams.

Police later confirmed that the weapon recovered from him was an illegal pistol.

Teacher identified as Gautam Patel

Police identified the accused as Gautam Patel. Shockingly, he works as a private school teacher.

During questioning, he reportedly told police that he was facing heavy financial problems. He said he had taken large loans and had to pay ₹25,000 every month as instalments.

The agent was identified as Pritesh Joshi, who reportedly ran an office in Chandkheda, Ahmedabad. He allegedly promised to arrange visas, jobs, and all required documents so the four family members could settle in London, UK.

Investigators believe the family agreed to travel through this network. Police sources said the group may have used several international transit points as part of an illegal route often described as a “donkey route”. Such routes are commonly linked with human trafficking and illegal migration cases.

Alleged Kidnapping And Ransom Call

As per the complaint filed on May 4, Shreya’s husband received a WhatsApp voice call from an unknown number. The caller allegedly identified himself as “Khan Baba”.

In the recorded message, the caller claimed he had kidnapped the family. He allegedly said the agent had “sold” them to him and demanded payment before allowing them to move forward.

The caller also allegedly warned that if anyone informed the police, the family would be killed. After this call, Shreya reportedly received repeated voice messages, photographs of her brothers, and further demands for money from different unknown numbers.

Ransom Demands And Audio Evidence

Sources said the kidnappers initially demanded ₹1 crore. The amount was later allegedly reduced to ₹30 lakh. Investigators are also examining audio clips in which family members can allegedly be heard asking for help and urging relatives to arrange money for their release.

Shreya has stated that she has not been able to contact her parents or brothers since the messages began.

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch and Gomtipur police have started a detailed investigation. Officers are checking digital evidence, including WhatsApp messages, voice recordings, and photographs sent to the complainant.

Police teams are trying to trace the family’s travel route and confirm their current location. They are also working to identify the agents and other people allegedly involved in the network.

Officials said the case appears similar to previous illegal immigration and trafficking cases. In such cases, families travelling through unauthorised routes were allegedly trapped, extorted, or detained by organised groups operating across countries.

At this stage, there is no official confirmation about the country where the family is being held.

A SIT has been formed to investigate the death of Twisha Sharma, who was found hanging at her MP home days after alleged dowry harassment and assault. Her husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, and father-in-law have been booked under dowry death laws.

The death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma in Bhopal has sparked shock, anger and growing demands for a deeper investigation. Twisha was found hanging at her marital home in the Katara Hills area on the night of May 12. What first appeared to be a suicide case has now turned into a major investigation involving allegations of dowry harassment, physical assault, forced abortion and destruction of evidence.

The case has attracted national attention because Twisha’s husband is a lawyer and both his parents are retired judges. Her family has alleged that local police may come under pressure due to the influence of the accused family. They are now demanding either a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe or a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from outside Madhya Pradesh.

On Saturday, police formed a six-member SIT to investigate the allegations.

SIT formed to investigate the case

According to officials, the SIT is being led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajnish Kashyap. The team also includes a woman police officer.

Twisha’s husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, along with his father and retired judge Giribala Singh, have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions related to dowry death and dowry harassment.

Police teams have been deployed to trace Samarth Singh, who is currently absconding.

Officials said Samarth and his mother took Twisha to a hospital on Tuesday night, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Police were informed by hospital authorities around 11 pm.

Meanwhile, a Bhopal court granted anticipatory bail to retired judge Giribala Singh on Friday. The hearing on Samarth Singh’s anticipatory bail plea is scheduled for May 18.

According to police, Twisha met Samarth Singh through a dating app in 2024. The two later got married in December 2025.

A Times Now report described Twisha as a former Miss Pune contestant. Her family said she entered the marriage with many dreams and expectations.

However, within just five months of marriage, her life ended under tragic and suspicious circumstances.

Her relatives from Noida have accused the in-laws of murder and have rejected claims that it was a simple suicide case.

One of the biggest claims made by Twisha's family relates to her pregnancy.

According to reports citing the short post-mortem findings, Twisha was around two months pregnant. The report allegedly revealed that she had undergone a Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP), or abortion, around a week before her death.

Her family claims the abortion was forced and carried out against her wishes after pressure and harassment from her husband and in-laws.

Twisha’s brother, Major Harshit Sharma of the Indian Army, alleged that although the pregnancy was initially unplanned, Twisha later wanted to continue it.

The family claims this issue became a major source of tension inside the house.

Allegations of character attacks and mental torture

Twisha’s brother has also alleged that her husband and mother-in-law questioned her character after she became pregnant.

According to the allegations, Samarth Singh reportedly taunted Twisha by saying the child was not his.

The family believes these repeated comments caused severe mental stress and emotional breakdown.

The allegations have deeply disturbed many people online, especially because Twisha had reportedly remained in regular contact with her family and had shared details of her struggles.

At present, police have not officially confirmed these claims, and the SIT investigation is expected to examine all allegations carefully.

Another major point being discussed is the mention of multiple ante-mortem injuries in the short post-mortem report.

While the immediate cause of death was reportedly stated as hanging, the report also allegedly found several injuries on Twisha’s body, especially on her hands and ears.

Ante-mortem injuries mean injuries suffered before death.

Her family claims these marks suggest she was physically assaulted before her death.

They have also alleged that attempts may have been made to destroy evidence after the incident.

Police said these angles will be investigated thoroughly by the SIT.

Shortly after the call, the family allegedly received another phone call informing them that Twisha had hanged herself.

Family demands CBI or outside-state probe

AIMIM corporator Matin Patel has been named as an accused for allegedly sheltering TCS Nashik case suspect Nida Khan and her family in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Khan was arrested during a joint police operation linked to TCS case.

An AIMIM corporator from Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has come under police investigation after allegedly giving shelter to Nida Khan, one of the main accused in the TCS Nashik sexual harassment and religious coercion case.

Police said the corporator, identified as Mateen Majid Patel, has now been named as an accused for allegedly helping Khan and her family hide in the city.

The development came after a joint operation by Nashik Police and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police led to Khan’s arrest on Thursday.

Who is Mateen Patel?

Mateen Patel is a corporator from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in for Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar).

According to police officials, Patel allegedly provided refuge to 27-year-old Nida Khan and her family in the Naregaon area of the city while police teams were searching for her.

Officials said Patel came under suspicion during the investigation into the alleged harassment and religious coercion case linked to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Nashik.

Nashik Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik said Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police Commissioner Pravin Pawar and his team helped trace Khan’s location.

According to officials, police received information that Khan was hiding in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. During the investigation, police found that local corporator Mateen Majid Patel had allegedly given shelter to Nida Khan.

Commissioner Karnik said the information was shared with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police Commissioner Pravin Pawar, who then formed teams for secret surveillance in the suspected area.

Police later confirmed Khan’s location in the Naregaon area.

Karnik said corporator Mateen Patel has now also been named as an accused in the case for allegedly harbouring Khan and helping her hide from police.

Based on the tip-off, Commissioner Pawar reportedly called Patel and some others to the police security branch on the pretext of reviewing charges related to security provided during civic body elections.

During questioning, Patel allegedly disclosed the location where Khan and her family were staying.

After this, police teams from both cities searched a house in Naregaon and arrested Khan.

According to police, the arrest operation was carried out after officers tracked Khan’s exact location.

A team of plainclothes police officers using unmarked vehicles reached the area and picked her up in a swift operation.

Police said Khan’s father Ejaj Bashir, mother Nilofar Ejaj, brother Mohammad Ejaj and aunt Noorjehan Sheikh Ali were also present in the house.

Nashik Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik said accused Nida Khan was taken into custody after her anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the court.

He said Nashik City Police carried out a joint operation with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police and arrested her from the Naregaon area after a two-day search operation.

Khan is one of the accused in the TCS Nashik case involving allegations of sexual harassment and hurting the religious sentiments of some employees.

The case came to light after allegations were made by several female employees at the TCS unit in Nashik.

The Nashik Police SIT registered nine FIRs linked to claims of sexual harassment, mental harassment, hurting religious sentiments and attempts at forceful religious conversion.

So far, eight people, including a female operations manager, had already been arrested before Khan’s arrest.

According to the FIR, Khan allegedly advised women employees to dress and behave according to Islamic traditions.

Some complainants also alleged that employees were pressured to follow certain religious practices, including praying, changing food habits and wearing religious symbols.

Besides charges related to sexual harassment and defamation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Khan has also been booked under sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act because one of the complainants belongs to a Scheduled Caste.

Police said Khan had approached a Nashik court on April 18 seeking anticipatory bail and interim protection from arrest, citing her pregnancy.

However, the court rejected her anticipatory bail plea on May 2.

TCS has stated that it follows a zero-tolerance policy against harassment and coercion of any kind.

The company also confirmed that employees allegedly involved in the case at the Nashik office have been suspended.

AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel on the involvement of Mateen Patel and accused Nida Khan in Nashik case said that he was yet to get details on the case and the charges against Patel. He added that an ‘accused had the right to bail unless a crime has been proven’. Speaking to reporters, he said, "Is the girl booked under all these sections? There's just a label on her that she hurt religious sentiments. We're not supporting it... I'm confident that the police and courts will act in an impartial manner... If it had been a Nisha Patil, Nita Deshpande or Nancy Fernandes, instead of Nida Khan, my stand would have been the same..."

The disturbing CCTV video shows the woman trying to escape while carrying or running alongside her child. One of the attackers can be seen chasing her through a narrow lane with a machete-like weapon in his hand, while another suspect waits nearby on a motorcycle.

As the woman screams for help and runs to protect herself and the child, she suddenly slips and falls on the road. The child also falls during the chaos.

The attacker then catches up with her and appears to snatch a gold chain from her neck while she continues screaming.

According to police, the accused, Nikita, was at home when the alleged incident occurred. Her mother-in-law had gone out to deliver food to her son at his shop. At that time, the elderly man was alone in his room.

Family members said there had been frequent arguments in the house over different issues. Police are treating the matter as a serious case and are investigating all possible angles.

CCTV Footage Under Review

The victim’s son, Saurabh, told police that he had installed CCTV cameras in the house to keep an eye on his father’s health while he was at work. He said he noticed a dispute on the live camera feed and immediately closed his shop to return home.

However, he claimed that by the time he reached the house, his father was already dead.

Saurabh also alleged that his wife tried to destroy evidence after the incident. He claimed she attempted to hide the pillow used in the alleged crime on the terrace. Police later recovered a pillow with bloodstains. He further alleged that she tried to damage CCTV cameras installed inside the house.

Police confirmed that CCTV footage currently shows only the accused entering and leaving the room. Officials said they are carefully checking the recordings. They also stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report.

Police Investigation Continues

Ranchi City Superintendent of Police Paras Rana said that a case of murder has been registered. He confirmed that the accused is in police custody.

He added that the investigation is being carried out from all possible directions. Police are also examining whether the victim’s existing health conditions, such as paralysis and heart problems, had any role in his death.

Police said the incident happened around 8 pm in the Mehndiganj area of Bazar Khala. Close range firing and threats

Police reports say the attacker then moved closer and fired more shots at short range. These bullets reportedly hit Chetan in the shoulder and neck.

When nearby residents tried to help, the accused allegedly pointed the pistol towards them as well. Out of fear, people stepped back and ran inside their homes.

The attacker fled soon after firing all five rounds.

CCTV footage reveals details

CCTV cameras installed near the house captured the full incident.

The footage shows the attacker wearing blue jeans and a white shirt. He was carrying a pistol. He walked towards Chetan, fired shots, and then ran away in the same direction he had come from.

The video also shows women and young men nearby running for safety when the firing started.

After the attacker left, local residents rushed to help Chetan. At that time, he was badly injured and covered in blood. He could not stand up on his own. People lifted him carefully and took him to hospital.

Shifted to KGMU trauma centre

With help from local people, Chetan was taken to the KGMU Trauma Center in Lucknow. His condition remains critical.

After news of the shooting spread, many of his supporters and acquaintances gathered at the trauma centre. They demanded immediate arrest of the attacker.

The crowd became loud and created a disturbance. Police officers spent nearly an hour calming the situation.

Security was increased at the hospital to manage the situation.

Accused taken into custody

Police identified the attacker as Vaibhav Vajpayee (30), who reportedly lives in the same neighbourhood as Chetan.

Officials said Vaibhav has been taken into custody and is being questioned. Police suspect that the attack may be linked to an old rivalry between the two men.

According to investigators, Chetan works in hoarding installation, and there was an ongoing dispute between him and Vaibhav. The disagreement is believed to be related to hoardings. Police are examining this angle during the investigation.

A retired Tata Steel employee was detained on Monday after allegedly killing his wife, pregnant daughter, and son inside their Agrico-based quarter. Police identified the accused as 61-year-old Ravinder Prasad Singh, who had retired from service earlier this year.

Police Investigation Underway

NDTV reported that the younger sister, a married woman and mother of two children, died on Friday after allegedly consuming pesticide while protesting atop a water tank in Kherapa area of rural Jodhpur. Her elder sister had died by suicide on March 20 after allegedly facing years of abuse and blackmail. The deaths have led to major tension in the area, with protests outside Jodhpur’s MDM Hospital and demands for strict punishment for both the accused and police personnel accused of negligence.

Elder sister allegedly blackmailed for years

According to the younger sister’s police complaint filed on April 11, the elder sibling was first trapped by Mahipal, an operator of a local e-Mitra service centre. She alleged that he secretly recorded obscene videos of her sister and later used them to blackmail and sexually exploit her.

The complaint named eight accused, including Mahipal, Shivraj, Gopal, Vijaram, Dinesh, Manoj and Pukhraj. The younger sister alleged that the men gang-raped her elder sister over several years and repeatedly threatened her.

She also claimed that the accused extorted money from her sister for around four years by threatening to leak the videos. Unable to bear the alleged harassment, mental torture and repeated abuse, the elder sister died by suicide on March 20.

The younger sister told police that her family had been living in fear for years because of the threats and blackmail.

Younger sister said accused targeted her after first suicide

After the elder sister's death, the younger sibling alleged that the accused started targeting her as well. In her FIR, she claimed that the men threatened to release her sister's videos on social media if she refused to obey them. She alleged that she too was sexually assaulted and threatened several times.

The woman claimed that one accused assaulted her at hotels and isolated places, while another allegedly assaulted her at her residence.

According to the family, the accused openly threatened her even after the FIR was registered. They allegedly told her that police would not take action against them because they had protection.

The woman had also reportedly warned the police in writing that she could end her life if justice was not delivered.

FIR filed but family says no action taken

Police registered an FIR on April 11 based on the younger sister's complaint. However, the family alleged that no concrete action or arrests were made even after one month.

This alleged delay became a major reason for anger among villagers and members of the Rajput community.

On Friday morning, the younger sister climbed onto a water tank in her village to protest against the lack of police action. She demanded immediate arrests of the accused and justice for her elder sister.

Villagers informed police and district officials, following which senior officers reached the spot and tried to convince her to come down safely.

However, as police personnel began climbing the tank during the rescue attempt, the woman allegedly consumed pesticide.

She was first taken to a local hospital and later referred to Jodhpur for better treatment, but she died on the way.

Protests erupt outside hospital

The deaths of the two sisters triggered widespread protests in Jodhpur.

Members of the Rajput community gathered outside MDM Hospital, where the younger sister’s body was kept in the mortuary. Protesters initially refused to allow the post-mortem and staged a sit-in demonstration demanding immediate arrests and action against police officials accused of negligence.

After discussions with officials, the family later agreed to the post-mortem examination.

Hanuman Singh Khangta, president of the Marwar Rajput Society, strongly criticised the police and accused them of protecting the accused throughout the investigation.

He alleged that police inaction and failure to act on repeated warnings had cost the two sisters their lives.

The community has demanded an impartial investigation, immediate arrest of all accused and strict disciplinary action against police officers who allegedly ignored the complaints.

Police respond to allegations

According to a report by the Times of India, Jodhpur Rural Superintendent of Police PD Nitya said that when the elder sister died in March, a case had been registered but it did not include rape allegations at that time.

The officer said that after the younger sister filed the April 11 FIR with gang-rape and blackmail allegations, a senior officer was assigned to investigate the matter.

SP Nitya added that the investigation was ongoing and that she herself is now personally monitoring the case.

Police have also assured that a departmental inquiry will be conducted into the allegations of negligence against officials handling the case.
