Both Subhash Chandra and Gaurav suffered serious injuries and were taken to the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Greater Noida for treatment.

Minors detained after July 20 murder

The three boys had been detained in connection with the killing of a 17-year-old boy on the night of July 20. According to police, as quoted by the Times of India report the boys and the deceased had been rivals for several months. Police said the three minors allegedly planned the attack and later spotted the teenager near Katraj Lake.

They allegedly assaulted him with sharp weapons, resulting in his death. Police have also said that the deceased had several cases registered against him and had allegedly been harassing the three boys.

A team headed by an Inspector General was constituted following directions from the High Court.

The SHRC team travelled from Mumbai to Pune and examined CCTV footage from cameras installed in the area, according to officials involved in the inquiry.

The team has also recorded statements from police personnel, particularly those involved in detaining the boys and bringing them to the police station.

Investigators are now trying to establish who ordered the alleged parade and who instructed police personnel to tie the minors to the vehicle.

The case came to light after the man, identified as 31-year-old Umendra Pratap Singh of Rahimabad, approached the police claiming that his wife, Anjali Singh, had gone missing. He told investigators that she had left their home on the intervening night of July 30 and 31, taking her jewellery with her. What initially appeared to be a missing person case soon turned into a murder investigation after the police found inconsistencies in Umendra's account.

Missing complaint raises suspicion

According to the police, as reported by the Times of India, Umendra approached the authorities on July 31 and reported Anjali missing. He claimed that she had left home with jewellery. However, Anjali's brother suspected that Umendra knew more about her disappearance and accused him of being involved in the case.

The police then registered a murder case after Anjali's body was recovered from the Gomti River on July 31. Her family members later identified the body as that of Anjali.

Rahimabad SHO Anil Kumar Trigunayak said the investigation changed direction after technical evidence did not support the husband's version of events.

Police began examining mobile phone locations, call records and other electronic evidence to establish where Umendra had been around the time Anjali disappeared.

The evidence eventually led investigators towards him.

Police say affair began seven months earlier

During questioning, Umendra allegedly told investigators that he had met Aarti Verma, 31, around seven months earlier. Aarti worked at a call centre and had booked a cab ride that Umendra was driving. The two allegedly remained in contact after their first meeting and later developed a romantic relationship, according to the police.

Investigators said Anjali eventually learnt about the relationship and objected to it.

Police alleged that repeated arguments between Umendra and Anjali over his relationship with Aarti led the two accused to plan her murder. The police have described the case as a planned killing carried out by Umendra and Aarti. The allegations are yet to be tested in court.

Wife allegedly smothered at home

According to investigators, Umendra and Aarti carried out the alleged murder on the night of July 30.

Police said the duo smothered Anjali and squeezed her neck until she died.

After her death, the accused allegedly wrapped her body in a blanket. They then placed it in a hatchback car and drove towards the area around Itaunja, where they allegedly dumped the body into the Gomti River.

The police said the car used to transport the body has since been seized.

The recovery of Anjali's body helped investigators establish that the missing person complaint was allegedly part of an attempt to hide the killing.

Investigators also believe Umendra tried to make it appear that Anjali had voluntarily left home. Police said he removed around 32 gold and silver ornaments belonging to Anjali and handed them over to Aarti.

The jewellery was allegedly worth between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. Umendra then approached the police with the missing complaint, claiming that Anjali had disappeared with her valuables.

Investigators said this was intended to support the impression that Anjali had left home on her own and had taken the jewellery with her.

However, the digital evidence examined by the police allegedly contradicted his account.

The jewellery was later recovered from Aarti, police said. Two mobile phones and the car allegedly used in the crime were also seized.

Digital trail helped police crack case

The investigation reportedly turned on the digital evidence collected by the police.

After Anjali's brother raised suspicion about Umendra, investigators began checking the movements and communication records of those connected to the case.

Police said the technical evidence did not match Umendra's version of what had happened. The digital trail eventually led investigators to him, and he was arrested near Adaura Mod on August 1.

During questioning, police said Umendra disclosed his alleged relationship with Aarti and described her involvement in the killing. Aarti was subsequently arrested by the police.

The arrests came shortly after Anjali's body was recovered from the Gomti River.

A 42-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death in Rajkot's Bhaktinagar area (Gujarat) on Saturday evening, with police saying an old family feud may have led to the attack. The victim, identified as Ghanshyamsinh Vaghela, was attacked near Dharamjeevan Apartment on the road connecting Jalaram Chowk and Bhaktinagar Circle. Ghanshyamsinh was seriously injured after allegedly being attacked with a knife several times. He was rushed to Gokul Hospital, where doctors treated him for his injuries. Police initially registered a case of attempted murder. After his death, the case was changed to murder and officers began the process of adding Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with murder, according to a report by Aaj Tak. The main accused, identified as Dharmendrasinh Vaghela, was arrested within hours of the attack. Police said another man who was allegedly involved in the incident is still on the run.

Victim was attacked near his car

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, Anupsinh Vaghela, the family lives in Raghuvir Society-3 on Sahakar Main Road in Rajkot.

Anupsinh told police that he had gone to a medical store on Saturday afternoon when he received information that his nephew, Dharmendrasinh, was looking for Ghanshyamsinh. Dharmendrasinh was allegedly riding an Activa with another man and searching for him.

Later that evening, at around 6pm, Ghanshyamsinh was sitting inside his car near Dharamjeevan Apartment.

Police said Dharmendrasinh allegedly called him out of the car and threatened to kill him. He then allegedly attacked him with a knife, striking him six or seven times.

Ghanshyamsinh fell to the ground after suffering serious injuries. People nearby rushed him to hospital, but his condition remained critical. He later died during treatment.

Bhaktinagar police reached the spot after receiving information about the attack and began collecting evidence. CCTV footage from the area was also examined, while statements from witnesses and family members were recorded.

Police suspect the attack was linked to an old feud

Investigators believe the incident was not a sudden fight and may have been linked to a dispute that had continued for around two years.

According to the complaint, a violent clash took place on the ninth day of Navratri two years ago in Bhader village of Dhoraji taluka. Ghanshyamsinh and his father Anupsinh were allegedly attacked with a knife during that incident.

A case of attempted murder was registered at Patanvav police station in connection with that incident. The matter is still pending before the Dhoraji Sessions Court.

The victim’s family has alleged that they did not agree to a settlement in that case. Police are examining whether the unresolved case created further tension between the two sides and eventually led to the latest attack.

Investigators are now checking phone records and other electronic evidence to establish whether such calls and threats actually took place.

Police also said that, a day before the attack, Ghanshyamsinh allegedly made around 40 to 50 missed calls to Dharmendrasinh. Call detail records are being examined to verify this claim and understand what happened between the two men before the murder.

Accused allegedly fled after the attack

After the stabbing, Dharmendrasinh allegedly fled from the area.

According to police, he first travelled towards Ahmedabad and later moved towards Limbdi. Bhaktinagar police tracked him down and detained him on the Limbdi highway within a few hours of the attack.

During questioning, police said Dharmendrasinh admitted that Ghanshyamsinh was his cousin and that the two had been involved in a long-running dispute.

Police said the accused claimed that he feared Ghanshyamsinh would eventually kill him. He allegedly told investigators that he therefore decided to attack him first.

However, his claims are part of the investigation and will have to be tested against other evidence collected by police.

While Dharmendrasinh has been arrested, police are still looking for the other man who was allegedly with him during the incident.

Police are also examining CCTV footage, call records, witness statements and other evidence to reconstruct the events before, during and after the stabbing.

During the hearing on Friday, the court said that the crime's brutality was 'nauseating and sickening', as reported by Bar and Bench.

The Karkardooma Court in Delhi rejected the prosecution's demand for the death penalty and sentenced Hussain, Nazir, Asim, Javed and Anas to life in prison.

Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh said the crime was extremely brutal, but held that the five convicts were not beyond the possibility of reform.

The Delhi Police had asked the court to award the death penalty to Hussain and the other convicts, describing Sharma's murder as cold-blooded and brutal.

The prosecution argued that the manner in which Sharma was killed justified the harshest punishment.

The police counsel also told the court that those seeking mercy had not shown mercy to Sharma when he was attacked.

The defence opposed the death penalty plea and argued that capital punishment can be imposed only in the "rarest of rare" cases.

The defence also pointed out that there was no evidence of a conspiracy and said that several members of the mob accused of attacking Sharma had been acquitted.

After considering the arguments, the court chose life imprisonment instead of the death penalty.

Hussain was convicted under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those relating to disobedience of a public order, promoting enmity between groups, rioting, rioting with a deadly weapon, unlawful assembly, kidnapping and murder.

Nazir, Asim, Javed and Anas were also convicted under the same provisions.

The case centres on the death of Ankit Sharma, an IB officer who was killed during the violence that broke out in northeast Delhi in February 2020.

The case began with a complaint filed by Sharma's father, Ravinder Kumar, on February 26, 2020, a day after his son went missing.

According to the complaint, tensions had been building around Chand Bagh Pulia and Main Karawal Nagar Road, where demonstrations linked to the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests and pro-CAA groups had been taking place.

Ravinder Kumar said the situation had turned violent, with incidents of stone-pelting, brick-batting, arson, firing and other acts of violence reported in the area.

He alleged that Hussain, who was the local municipal councillor at the time, had gathered people at his nearby office.

The complaint alleged that stones and petrol bombs were thrown from the building and that firing also took place from its rooftop.

According to his father's complaint, Sharma had left home on February 25, 2020, to buy household items.

He did not return for a long time, leaving his family worried. A missing persons complaint was subsequently filed.

The family later received information from local residents that a young man had allegedly been thrown into a drain near the Masjid at Chand Bagh Pulia after being killed.

Sharma's body was eventually recovered from the Khajuri Khas drain near Chand Bagh Pulia.

His father then alleged that his son had been killed by Hussain and people associated with him, who had gathered at the councillor's office during the violence.

BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla, who recently sparked speculation after announcing his decision to step away from active politics, reacted sharply to the verdict. In a post on X, Poonawalla said Tahir Hussain should have been sentenced to death, questioning why the court chose life imprisonment.

Referring to the prosecution’s arguments, he said the killing was “cold-blooded” and called for the harshest punishment.

The murder took place against the backdrop of the deadly Delhi riots of February 2020.

Violence broke out in several parts of northeast Delhi during clashes between groups amid protests and counter-protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The unrest resulted in deaths, injuries and widespread damage to homes, shops and other property.

Sharma's killing became one of the major cases arising from the violence.

The prosecution's case focused on Hussain and the four other convicts and their alleged role in the events surrounding Sharma's death.

A 30-year-old teacher was allegedly dragged out of her classroom and stabbed to death by a masked man at a private school in Sikrauna, Faridabad, on Monday, police said. The attacker reportedly entered the school through the main gate between 9.30am and 9.40am. He had covered his face with a white cloth and allegedly waited inside before asking for the teacher.

Police said she was stabbed around 18 to 20 times in quick succession. Her colleagues heard her screams and rushed towards her. The attacker allegedly chased them away before stabbing the teacher again.

The woman eventually allegedly took the three-year-old onto the scooter. Anuradha then held on to the moving scooter in an attempt to stop it.

She fell onto the road but reportedly did not immediately let go. The accused allegedly dragged her for around 50 metres before escaping with the younger child.

The girl suffered injuries to her arm and leg and was later taken for a medical examination.

Father says wife has been living separately

The three-year-old's father, Yuvraj Singh, later approached Daba police after getting his daughter medically examined.

Yuvraj said he married Seema Rani around 10 years ago and claimed that she had been living separately with another man for around six months. He said the couple have two children, a seven-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter and that he has been looking after both.

He further alleged that a divorce and other disputes are already being heard in court.

Yuvraj claimed his wife wanted to take only their younger daughter and alleged that she had been making demands for financial support. These claims are part of the family's complaint and have not been independently established.

Daba police station SHO Jatinder Kumar told Dainik Bhaskar that the matter had come to the police's attention and officers were examining the CCTV footage.

Three arrested after police raid

Police identified the arrested accused as Jagruti alias Krishna Satish Rajpara, 39, her brother Kalu Bhikha Chavda, 34, and Pooja alias Poonam Hirani. According to investigators, as reported by Desh Gujarat, Jagruti owned the flat and allegedly allowed it to be used for the operation. Police said Pooja was allegedly looking after its day-to-day activities.

Kalu allegedly helped bring customers to the flat and kept watch outside, investigators said. Police said the accused allegedly charged customers Rs 1,000 for the services.

Laskana Police have registered a case under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

Bombay High Court has overturned Tarun Tejpal's 2021 acquittal and convicted the Tehelka founder of rape, sexual harassment and assault with intent to disrobe. The case began in 2013 after a junior colleague accused him of sexual assault in Goa.

The Bombay High Court has convicted former Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal of rape and other sexual offences in a case dating back to 2013 and sentenced him to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment.

Goa bench overturned the acquittal handed down by a sessions court in 2021, bringing a major change to the outcome of one of India's most closely watched sexual assault cases.

The High Court convicted Tejpal under Sections 376(2)(f), 376(2)(k), 354A and 354B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The first two sections concern aggravated forms of rape, while the other two relate to sexual harassment and assault or criminal force with intent to disrobe a woman.

Following the conviction, Tejpal appeared before the bench and asked the court to be lenient while deciding his sentence.

While talking to media after conviction in the case, Tejpal alleged that the case against him was driven by “political vendetta” linked to Tehelka’s past reporting. He said the magazine’s investigations may have caused political damage or affected vested interests, and claimed that he had been targeted in retaliation for the past 13 years.

“We fought the case for 7.5 years in the trial court and got an acquittal,” Tejpal said, referring to his 2021 acquittal. He alleged that while people associated with those he had written about had been acquitted, action was being pursued against those who had exposed them.

Referring to jailed activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, Tejpal said, “They are after those who wrote against them.” He maintained that he had full faith in the judiciary and expressed hope that the Supreme Court would examine the evidence and “see the truth”.

Tejpal also said his legal team would present the evidence before the Supreme Court as it challenges the High Court verdict.

His senior lawyer, Abad Ponda, also urged the court to show leniency. He pointed out that the alleged offences took place more than 13 years ago and said Tejpal has no other criminal case or FIR against him.

The defence also asked the court to put the conviction order on hold for at least eight weeks so that Tejpal could approach the Supreme Court.

The state, however, opposed the plea for leniency.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Goa, argued that the nature of the offence required the court to send a strong message. He stressed that the woman had been in a position where Tejpal held authority over her and argued that the circumstances called for a serious sentence.

The court then moved on to consider the issue of punishment.

The case began in November 2013 during Tehelka's ThinkFest event in Goa.

A junior female colleague accused Tejpal, who was then the editor-in-chief of Tehelka, of sexually assaulting her inside a hotel lift. The allegations caused a major national controversy because of Tejpal's position in the media organisation and the professional relationship between him and the woman.

Tejpal later faced criminal proceedings over the allegations.

The prosecution case included the woman's account of what happened, digital evidence, CCTV footage and emails exchanged after the alleged incident.

One of the important pieces of evidence discussed during the proceedings was an email sent by Tejpal to the woman after the incident. The prosecution argued that his apology and reference to a 'lapse of judgment' supported its case.

The defence disputed that interpretation. His lawyers argued that the emails referred to a consensual conversation of a sexual nature and did not amount to an admission of sexual assault.

The case went through a long legal process before reaching the latest High Court verdict.

In May 2021, a sessions court in Goa acquitted Tejpal of all charges.

The trial court had examined the evidence and the woman's testimony before concluding that the prosecution had failed to establish the charges beyond reasonable doubt.

The Goa government challenged that decision before the Bombay High Court.

During the appeal, the prosecution argued that the trial court had placed too much importance on certain inconsistencies in the woman's statements and had assessed her behaviour using preconceived ideas about how a survivor of sexual assault should react.

The state also relied on the emails exchanged after the alleged incident.

Tejpal's defence, meanwhile, challenged the prosecution's version and pointed to emails, WhatsApp messages, CCTV footage and expert evidence. The defence argued that these pieces of evidence did not support the allegations in the manner claimed by the prosecution.

The High Court has now disagreed with the trial court's conclusion and set aside the acquittal.

The High Court convicted Tejpal under four IPC provisions.

Section 376(2)(f) deals with rape by a person who is in a position of trust or authority in relation to a woman. The provision carries a minimum sentence of 10 years' rigorous imprisonment and can extend to imprisonment for the remainder of the convict's natural life, along with a fine.

Section 376(2)(k) concerns rape by a person who is in a position of control or dominance over a woman. It also provides for a minimum of 10 years' rigorous imprisonment, which can extend to imprisonment for the remainder of the person's natural life, along with a fine.

Section 354A deals with sexual harassment.

Section 354B covers assault or use of criminal force against a woman with the intention of disrobing her or forcing her to be naked. The punishment under this provision can range from three to seven years in prison, along with a fine.

The High Court said it had set aside the earlier judgment and convicted Tejpal under these provisions.

Why does the case use IPC and not BNS?

A common question following the verdict is why the court is applying the IPC when India now has the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The answer is the date of the alleged offences.

The incident took place in 2013, more than a decade before the BNS came into force. The criminal law applicable at the time of the alleged offence therefore applies to the case.

The BNS replaced the IPC from July 1, 2024. However, a person cannot be convicted under a later criminal law for an act that was not governed by that law when it allegedly happened.

That is why the High Court's conviction refers to the relevant IPC provisions.

After the conviction, the focus shifted to the punishment he could receive. Tejpal personally appealed to the bench for a lenient view. He said he was 62 and described himself as a victim.

His lawyer Abad Ponda repeated the plea before the court. He argued that more than 13 years had passed since the alleged offences and pointed out that Tejpal has no other criminal cases or FIRs against him.

The defence also asked the High Court to stay the conviction order for at least eight weeks. The purpose, according to the defence, was to give Tejpal time to approach the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict.

The state strongly opposed the request for leniency.

What did the Goa government say?

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the state, argued against taking a soft view of the offence.

He told the court that the woman was much younger and that Tejpal was in a position of authority over her. He argued that the case called for a strong message from the court.

Mehta also stressed the importance of consent, arguing that when a woman says no, that refusal must be respected.

The state therefore urged the court not to reduce the seriousness of the offence while deciding the sentence.

The arguments put the two sides in clear contrast: Tejpal's defence focused on his age, the passage of time and his personal circumstances, while the state focused on the nature of the offence and the need for deterrence.

Goa Advocate General Devidas Pangam said the state has strongly opposed Tarun Tejpal’s request for a stay on the Bombay High Court’s conviction in the 2013 sexual assault case. He said the seriousness of the offence, the alleged humiliation of the survivor and comments made about her character did not justify any leniency.

Pangam said the prosecution has sought the maximum punishment available under Section 376 of the IPC, citing the circumstances of the case and the nature of the offence.

He also highlighted that the alleged assault was not a one-time incident and claimed that a similar incident occurred again the following day. The state further argued that Tejpal was in a position of authority as the survivor’s employer and was seen by her as a father-like figure.

According to Pangam, the state believes the alleged misuse of that position makes the case particularly serious. He said the court should impose a stringent sentence to ensure deterrence and send a clear message against such offences.

The court is scheduled to pronounce Tejpal’s sentence at 2:30 pm.

The High Court has already convicted Tejpal. The next major issue is the sentence.

The court will consider the arguments from both sides before deciding what punishment should be imposed.

Tejpal's lawyers have also made it clear that they intend to challenge the High Court's decision before the Supreme Court. They have therefore sought time to take the matter to the country's highest court.

The key change is that the 2021 acquittal no longer stands. The Bombay High Court has reversed that verdict and found Tejpal guilty under four IPC provisions relating to rape, sexual harassment and assault with intent to disrobe.

The case, which began with allegations during a 2013 event in Goa, has therefore entered another crucial stage more than 13 years later.

However, Greek authorities have not yet finalised the exact charges against him. He was initially arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, robbery and weapons offences.

Investigators say the suspect was identified after officers examined CCTV footage and other evidence linked to Ross's disappearance.

A search of the suspect's home reportedly led to the seizure of a replica pistol and a knife.

Greek police are now working to establish exactly how Ross died. Toxicology tests have been fast-tracked, with authorities expecting the results in the coming days, although forensic testing can sometimes take much longer.

Ross arrived in Greece on 26 June and initially stayed in the Keratsini area with Greek friends. The area is around 9.5km west of central Athens.

Police said she remained in the wider Piraeus area until 10 July, when she left for an unknown destination in Attica.

Illegal old age home sealed after inquiry

The illegally run old age home in Indore was sealed after the video went viral. The administration inspected Premashray Old Age Home after the video surfaced and found that it had been operating without the required government permission since 2022. Officials said the organisation running the home was registered only as a society and did not have approval to operate a residential care home for senior citizens.

Residents shifted, FIR ordered

Following the inspection, authorities shifted all 31 elderly residents to recognised old age homes run under the Social Justice Department, while three inmates who were unwell were admitted to a government hospital.

The teenager, who had lost both his parents and had been staying at the home without any legal authority, has been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee for care. Officials have also directed police to register an FIR against the operator of the facility.

Police say boy has been staying at the home

According to Banganga Police and Assistant Commissioner of Police Rubina Mizwani, the teenager's mother had been admitted to the old age home around five months ago after suffering severe burn injuries.

She died shortly after being admitted. Police said the boy continued to stay at the facility following her death as he had nowhere else to go.

Officials also said the teenager appeared to be mentally unstable, and his psychological condition is being assessed.

Collector orders joint inquiry

Taking note of the incident, Indore Collector Shivam Verma directed a joint inquiry into the matter.

The investigation has been assigned to SDM Nidhi Verma and Pawan Chouhan, Joint Director of the Social Justice Department in Indore. They will examine how the incident happened and whether the home was following the required rules.

Home allegedly lacked mandatory recognition

During the initial inquiry, officials found that the old age home was allegedly operating without the mandatory recognition from the Social Justice Department.

The facility is said to house around 30 elderly residents and is mainly run through public donations. Authorities are now examining whether the home violated government rules meant for institutions caring for senior citizens.

Management warned, no case against minor

Police called the home's operator, Neelam Dubey, for questioning and issued a warning over the incident. No criminal case has been registered against the 14-year-old because of his age and his reported psychological condition.

Counselling and rehabilitation planned

Authorities said the teenager will receive counselling before being shifted to Childline and a designated juvenile care institution for proper care, supervision and rehabilitation.

Dipali’s family, who live in Burhanpur district of neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, travelled to Washim after receiving the call. They reached the district at around 7 pm, according to a report by ABP Live.

Police said Madne was due to leave for Jammu and Kashmir the following day.

Doctors raised suspicion

Doctors at the government hospital examined Dipali and suspected that she had not died in an accident, as initially claimed. They alerted the police after noticing injuries on her body.

Senior police officer Manish Thakre said police received a memo from the hospital stating that a woman had been brought there in an ambulance.

“When our team reached the hospital, it was apparent that something was wrong,” Thakre said. Police noticed visible injury marks around Dipali’s neck.

Family alleges harassment

Dipali’s brother alleged that Madne had been involved in an extra-marital relationship and had been harassing his sister over the matter.

He said the dispute had become serious several months ago, leading both families to hold a meeting to settle the matter. Although the issue was resolved at the time, the alleged harassment continued, he claimed.

Madne has been arrested, while police are also investigating the allegations against his parents. Further investigation is underway.

CCTV shows how the theft happened

According to the CCTV footage, one of the women reached towards the jewellery displayed on the shelves while the other members kept the shop staff occupied. She allegedly picked up the gold chain and placed it inside a bag.

The group then left the shop without raising suspicion among the staff at the time. The theft is believed to have taken place at around 1:30 pm on August 6.

The accused are currently absconding, police said. Investigators are examining the CCTV footage and other available evidence to establish the identities of those involved and trace the stolen gold chain.

The incident happened on Friday morning, August 7, in Nonthaburi, north-west of Bangkok. The sudden gunfire sent students and teachers into panic, with children hiding inside classrooms as police rushed to the school.

The teenager's profile has added another disturbing layer to the tragedy.

People who knew him described him as a generally quiet boy who was doing well in his studies. His family reportedly had no knowledge of any major dispute at home or school that could explain what happened.

However, the picture emerging from the investigation is not completely clear. The prime minister said the boy appeared to have been under stress linked to school, based partly on information from a close friend. Officials have also said the attack appeared to have been planned.

That does not establish why he carried out the attack. Police have not found a clear motive or suicide note, and investigators are looking into his school life, behaviour and other possible factors.

Police say the teenager first went to his home, where he allegedly shot his grandfather and grandmother.

When officers later went to the house after learning about the school shooting, they found the door locked from inside. Police forced their way in and found both elderly victims dead from gunshot wounds.

The weapon used in the attack was reportedly a handgun legally registered to the teenager's grandfather. Police said the suspect fired at least 26 rounds and that 34 additional rounds were found at the scene.

Teacher recalls hiding with students during shooting

According to the Guardian report, English teacher Prompong Namwong, the school day had started like any other. He was teaching his class when a frightened student from another classroom suddenly rushed through the door, desperately looking for somewhere to hide.

Confused by what was happening, Namwong stepped into the corridor. He then heard other teachers shouting that there was a mass shooting.

Realising the danger, he quickly told his students to hide underneath their tables. The teacher said he then saw the teenage attacker running past his classroom.

For the next 20 to 30 minutes, Namwong and his students remained inside the classroom in fear, unsure of what would happen next.

When someone eventually knocked on the classroom door, Namwong feared the worst. However, it was police officers who had arrived to rescue them.

Only after the students were brought to safety did he learn through the school's group chat that some of his fellow teachers had been killed.

Namwong described them as good teachers and said he struggled to find words to describe the shock of losing them.

He also said he had never imagined that a shooting could happen at his own school. Now, despite the trauma, he knows he has to continue with his life, but said the incident had left him deeply shaken.

The teenager then went to his school and began firing.

Students heard repeated gunshots coming from another building. Some rushed into classrooms and hid while teachers tried to keep them safe. Police later entered the school and helped evacuate the children.

The attack left dozens of people injured. Thailand's health authorities initially reported 22 injured people being treated at several hospitals, with nine in critical condition. Other updates put the number of injured at more than 30 as officials continued to assess the victims.

The school had around 3,100 students and 147 teachers in the 2025 academic year, according to district authorities.

That remains the biggest unanswered question.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the student appeared to have been under stress connected with school. But officials have not said that this was the definite reason for the shooting.

Investigators are now examining his behaviour, school records and other information to understand what may have led to the attack.

A 17-year-old student who knew the suspect told AFP that he believed the boy had been troubled and that some students said he had been bullied. However, these claims have not been established as the motive and should not be treated as confirmed.

The case has also renewed concern about access to firearms in Thailand.

The gun allegedly used in the attack belonged legally to the teenager's grandfather, raising questions about how the child was able to obtain it.

Thailand has one of the highest levels of civilian gun ownership in the region, and the country has faced several deadly shootings in recent years. In February, a 17-year-old allegedly stole a police firearm and opened fire at a school in southern Thailand, killing one person.

The latest attack has therefore raised concerns not only about school safety but also about young people's access to guns and the pressure they may face.

Investigators are still trying to answer the central question: how did a teenager described by people around him as quiet and good at studies reach the point where he allegedly carried out such a deadly attack?

A late-night ride turned fatal for a Pune motorcyclist on Thursday when he crashed into the door of a parked car that swung open just as he was passing by, police said.

The rider, identified as Suryakant Bidkar, died after suffering a severe head injury in the fall. Bidkar was riding through the Camp area when a woman stepping out of a parked car opened its door without warning, directly into his path. Unable to avoid the sudden obstruction, he was thrown off his bike and hit his head hard on the road surface. He succumbed to his injuries.

Accident in Camp Locality

The accident took place on Thursday night in Pune's Camp locality, a busy commercial and residential stretch of the city. Police say the collision was purely the result of the car door being opened abruptly, giving Bidkar no time to react or swerve away as he rode past.

Bidkar's family approached the Lashkar Police Station and lodged a formal complaint following his death. Officers have opened an investigation, visited the accident site to examine the scene, and are recording statements from people who witnessed the incident.

The probe is ongoing, with police expected to determine the exact sequence of events and any liability in the case as the investigation proceeds.
