Alleged Assault Began After Argument

According to the woman's complaint, the incident began on the evening of June 10 when her husband returned home after consuming alcohol, reported India Today.

After dinner, an argument reportedly broke out between the couple. Mangibai alleged that her husband became aggressive and began verbally abusing her. When she objected, he allegedly cut a tree branch and used it as a stick to assault her.

She told police that she was repeatedly beaten, slapped and threatened. Fearing for her safety, she decided to seek help from the police and quietly left home during the night.

Mangibai said she started walking towards Khilchipur police station. However, before she could reach her destination, her husband allegedly found her near a temple, assaulted her again and forced her back home.

According to her statement, the violence became more severe after she was brought back to the house.

She alleged that her husband wrapped an iron chain around her neck, attached it to a pillar and locked it, preventing her from leaving.

Mangibai further alleged that her husband heated an iron rod on a gas stove and pressed it against different parts of her body.

She told police that she suffered burns on her waist, hip and right thigh. For nearly a day, she remained confined inside the house and was unable to contact anyone for help.

According to her complaint, her husband was also trying to gather villagers for a panchayat and convince her to drop any plan of approaching the police.

Fearing more violence, she pretended to agree while waiting for an opportunity to escape.

Breaking Free

The chance came when her husband left the house to call villagers for the proposed meeting.

Left alone, Mangibai noticed a stone nearby. She used it to repeatedly strike the lock securing the chain.

After several attempts, the lock finally broke.

Without wasting time, she left the house and began her journey towards Khilchipur police station.

Six Kilometres Through the Night

By then it was dark. Mangibai walked through fields and isolated paths with the broken chain and lock still hanging around her neck.

The difficult journey left her feet injured by thorns and rough ground. Despite the pain, she continued walking.

According to reports, some people she passed assumed she was mentally unwell because of the chain around her neck. Most did not realise what she had gone through.

One passer-by reportedly offered her food before she continued her journey.

When Mangibai reached Khilchipur police station at around 10 pm, police officers were reportedly shocked to see the chain still around her neck.

She narrated her ordeal and was immediately sent for medical examination. Police said the examination found injuries and burn marks on her body.

A case was registered based on her complaint, and a police team was sent to the village. The accused husband was arrested and has been produced before the court.

Police said the investigation is continuing and all aspects of the case are being examined.

According to Chatterjee, Mansukh Kaka spent most of his life working as a salesperson at a saree shop. However, he lost his job after falling ill during the Covid-19 pandemic. His son also had to leave work to care for him during that difficult period.

After recovering, Mansukh Kaka decided not to sit idle. Instead, he started a small roadside stall near his home, selling homemade snacks prepared by his sister.

The video showed neatly arranged containers filled with around 20 varieties of snacks, including khakra, chakli and other farsan items. Chatterjee explained that the snacks are prepared fresh at home before being packed and brought to the stall each day.

Despite spending long hours waiting for customers, Mansukh Kaka reportedly earns only about ₹300 daily. One moment that particularly impressed viewers showed him carefully recording every sale and expense in a small diary.

A 19-year-old youth from Bihar has been arrested by Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch for allegedly diverting refund payments meant for NEET aspirants into his own bank account by gaining unauthorised access to their accounts on the NEET portal. The accused, identified as Naveen Yadav from Bihar's Gaya district, is alleged to have targeted hundreds of students and changed the bank details linked to their profiles, allowing refund money to be transferred to his account.

How the Alleged Fraud Came to Light

The case surfaced after the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch received a complaint regarding suspicious refund transactions connected to the NEET-UG portal, according to a report by India Today.

During the investigation, officials discovered that banking details associated with several student accounts had been altered without permission. As a result, refund amounts that were supposed to reach NEET candidates were redirected elsewhere.

Police said each affected candidate was entitled to a refund of around Rs 1,700.

More Than 150 Accounts Targeted

According to investigators, the accused allegedly attempted to access more than 350 student accounts and successfully gained control of around 150 of them.

Officials believe he used a brute-force method, a technique that involves repeatedly trying different password combinations until access is gained. Police said weak passwords and security gaps on the portal may have helped him carry out the fraud.

After entering the accounts, he allegedly replaced the students' registered bank account information with his own details.

Cyber Crime Team Traces Money Trail

Investigators sought information from the National Testing Agency (NTA) to identify the accounts that had received the refund payments.

The financial trail eventually led police to the accused in Bihar. Following the investigation, Ahmedabad Police arrested him and brought him into custody for questioning.

Officials are now examining whether he was involved in similar cyber fraud cases elsewhere.

Security Measures Strengthened

The incident has raised fresh concerns about digital security linked to major examinations.

Following the breach, the NTA reportedly strengthened security measures on the NEET portal. Officials said improvements were made to authentication systems, including the addition of stronger security checks to prevent unauthorised access.

Police noted that certain security weaknesses identified during the investigation have since been addressed.

The case comes at a time when the NEET examination process is already under scrutiny following controversy surrounding the alleged paper leak.
