Mollywood actor Kalasala Babu dies due to cerebral hemorrhage at 68

Renowned Malayalam character artist Kalasala Babu passed away due to cerebral hemorrhage during the wee hours on Monday (May 14) at a private hospital in Kochi, Kerala. The actor was under treatment for the past three months as he was suffering from heart ailments after he suffered a stroke during an emergency surgery early this year.

Babu is the son of well-known Kathakali artist Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair and Mohiniyattam dancer Kalamandalam Kalyanikutty Amma. The 68-year-old actor started his journey through theatre and slowly forayed his way into the small screen before debuting on the big screen with John Paul’s “Iniye Thedi”. The senior artist has worked in over 50 films alongside prominent figures, which includes the likes of Mohanlal, Mammootty, Dileep, and Prithviraj. He is most appreciated for his portrayal of complex negative characters and is known for breathing life into a role.

The actor is survived by his wife Lalitha, daughter Sreedevi, who resides in the US, and son Vishwanathan who stays in Ireland.
