The next phase of the Joint Entrance Exam-Main (JEE Main), which was scheduled to be held on April 27 to 30, has been rescheduled due to the surge in Covid-19 cases across the country.

In a statement, the National Testing Agency said the decision to reschedule the exams was made taking into account the safety and well-being of the candidates and examination functionaries.

The agency had also received several requests from both candidates and parents to postpone the April session.

The NTA also said that the new dates will be announced at least 15 days prior to the exam.

Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the matter.

He said, "Given the current Covid-19 situation, I have advised NTA to postpone the JEE (Main) April 2021 session. I would like to reiterate that the safety of our students and their academic career are education ministry's and my prime concerns right now."

Students have been advised to check for the latest updates with regard to the exams on the National Testing Agency's official website www.nta.ac.in and jeemain.nta.nic.in/
