CP Udayabhanu, a senior advocate at the Kerala High Court, is facing police investigation in connection with the murder case of real estate broker near Chalakudy, it has emerged.
Real estate agent Rajeev's body was found strangulated to death inside a rented building at Pariyaram on Friday. Rajeev, 43, had earlier complained to the police that he has received a death threat from Udayabhanu.
Rajeev’s friends claim that he had disagreements with Udayabhanu regarding the sale of plots in Palakkad and Nedumbassery. The police now suspect that it was the dispute over this property that led to the murder.
“The police believe that Rajeev was abducted by a gang before he was murdered. We are examining the evidence and it is learned that the dispute over a real estate deal is the motive behind the crime,” Thrissur rural SP Yathish Chandra said while addressing a press conference in Thrissur on Saturday.
Rajeev's body was discovered after Raju, a local man, ventured into the building inadvertently. He checked the building after he became suspicious after hearing a voice from the abandoned building.
A goon, who was in an inebriated state, shouted at Raju when he tried to go in. Raju then informed the local police, who searched the house and found the body. Four people have already been arrested in connection with the murder, while the search for two more is on.
Udayabhanu was the special public prosecutor in the controversial Chandrabose murder case and had appeared as the defence lawyer in Sister Abhaya murder case. He also wrote the Malayalam film Pakarnnattam, directed by Jayaraj.
