Kochi: Kerala government deposed in the honourable high court that there is ample evidence against the tainted Bishop Franco Mulakkal who is accused of raping a nun in the seminary. The state alleged that the acquittal petition given by the priest was an attempt, intended at delaying the trial of the case. Earlier the plea had been struck off by the trial court following which the priest decided to challenge it in the high court.

The priest had earlier alleged in his plea that the nun has absolutely no evidence against him and thus he had requested the court to save him from the trial procedure.  The court will consider the revision plea on the 26th of this month.

The alleged incident had apparently occurred on 26th of June 2018 in the Kuravilangad Saint Francis Mission home, after which the nun had filed a police complaint against him. The Bishop was arrested after an inquiry which lasted four months. He was in jail for 25 days before the trial court allowed him bail.
