Facebook Google should be used to block porn SC

In a bid to block porn sites on the Internet, the Supreme Court directed the government and the Information Ttechnology department to take the help of Google and Facebook to block objectionable sites that strea, child pornography. The Apex Court has suggested that the government should list out words that will help in blocking such videos.

According to a report by the Deccan Chronicle, a bench of justices Madan B. Lokur and Uday Lalit passed this order in the petition relating to Prajwala, which is an NGO seeking the court's intervention to block such content on the internet.

Prajwala had reportedly written a letter to the Supreme Court in 2015 and had also produced a pendrive with video content, highlighting the crime committed by the gang and seeking appropriate action against the culprits, who had the audacity to upload such content online. The letter, incidentally, was converted into a PIL. On March 22 this year, the court had constituted a technical expert committee to assist and advise the court on the feasibility of ensuring that such content would not be available online.

During a web cam hearing on Monday, the court accepted the 11 proposals and recommendations based on consensus.
