Ex-India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has set a bad precedent by reportedly throwing garbage on the roadside in one of the villages in Goa. Following the incident, he has been fined, says a report.

Jadeja was reportedly identified by the solid waste management volunteers who go about picking garbage on weekends, keep the area clean and try to establish the offender by finding out details like parcel address and bills from the trash.

The volunteers found a bill in the name of Ajay Jadeja. The Nachinola village authorities were convinced that this act could be from Jadeja as he also owns a villa in a neighboring village Aldona.

“We found a bill in the name of Ajay Jadeja. We fined him like we fined everyone else and we informed him not to dump the garbage in the future. He graciously paid the fine. We are proud that such a celebrity, a popular cricket player, stays in our village, but they should follow garbage norms,” sarpanch of the village Trupti Bandodkar was quoted as saying as per media reports.

It is said that the village slapped a penalty of Rs 5,000 on Jamnagar-born Ajay Jadeja. And he also paid the fine.

As the stretch here is facing a problem with garbage littering as offenders fling garbage from moving vehicles or dump the waste when no one is around.  Apart from regular monitoring, village authorities have also sought the general public and commuters' help with evidence to nail such offenders who throw garbage and spoil Goa's image. The Panchayats have taken strict measures to impose a penalty after the High Court pulled them for failing to deal with garbage menace.
