The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said an offline verification procedure for COVID-19 vaccination and issuing monthly passes to fully inoculated people to enable them to board local trains in Mumbai from Wednesday.

Earlier, on Sunday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that people who have completed 14 days after getting the second dose of vaccine would be allowed to board the trains from August 15. The citizens have to carry a hard copy of the final vaccination certificate and photo ID to receive their travel passes. A total of 358 help desks will be set up at 53 railway stations, and these desks will be operational from 7 am to 11 pm. The offline process of issuing monthly season passes will continue on all seven days of the week until further notice.

Meanwhile, the BMC warned that strict action would be taken against the citizens who will show fake vaccination certificates to procure travel passes. The notice also mentioned that those who are not vaccinated or have just received a single dose of the COVID-19 vaccine would not be allowed to travel on suburban trains at present. In April 2021, the train services were suspended for the general public after the second coronavirus had hit the state of Maharashtra. Currently, only government employees and essential staffers are allowed to travel in local trains.
